  1. Very nice memory, but you are dating yourself! Joe Cribbs was great his rookie year, but Dennis Shaw was voted Rookie of The Year way back in....1970 I think? Man, I've been watching the Bills way too long to remember #16 throwing those bombs to Marlin Briscoe and Haven Moses! Too bad the Bills defense was hardly a shell of those great mid 60's teams and Shaw lost way too many games from '70 to '72, and then rookie Joe Ferguson replaced him in 1973. Talk about 1 year wonders, Dennis Shaw never had another season close to his rookie one with the Bills as he made his way to St. Louis for a few more years on the bench behind Jim Hart.

How about Jim Kelly's rookie year of 1986? He only led the Bills to 4 wins that first season, but no rookie ever made an impact like he did when he came riding in from Houston of the old USFL in that limo from the airport to Orchard Park!

Wasn't Haven Moses traded for Marlin Briscoe? Although maybe you mean one in one year and one in another.

  2. Burnett had 4.1 YC vs 3.9 for Cribbs in their respective rookie seasons.

Cribbs had the same amount of yard on the ground 1185, that Burnett had combined. I'm not sure how much Cribbs' 52 catches added to that amount.

But, I didn't realize that Burnett was that good as a rookie. He won ROY. My memory goes back to the 68 season, but not the 66 season.

  3. I don't recall the details anymore, but didn't Cribbs first try to renegotiate his rookie contract with the Bills and was turned down?

I don't remember that, but it's sounds Ralph-like.........My memory was that he wanted to go back to Alabama. I remember seeing him being introduced in a convertible driven out on the field before or at halftime of the Birmingham game (in spring of 83 I'm pretty sure - because he still played the 83 season for the Bills even though he was leaving). That was a sickening feeling watching that.

Can you imagine what he did - he played the 83 fall season for the Bills and then jumped right in and played the 84 spring season for Birmingham!

  4. This was in the Buffalo News yesterday. Totally agree about the underrated part. The reason I would pick him over all the other choices is that he immediately became the biggest weapon on an offense that went on to win the first division title since the mid -60s:

This Day in Buffalo Sports History: So long, Joe

    Feb 26, 2011 12:13:00 AM / Comment

February 26, 1984 -- Joe Cribbs might be one of the most underrated Buffalo Bills player in history, at least from the historical perspective of looking back more than two decades.

The Bills drafted him in the second round in 1980, and he immediately filled a void at halfback. Cribbs ran for 1185 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. He also caught 52 passes.

Cribbs spent four seasons in Buffalo, and went past 1,000 yards in three of them. Then he signed a contract to jump to the United States Football League. The Bills tried to stop Cribbs in court, and the case sent sports reporters into the unfamiliar territory of a courtroom.

But Cribbs won the suit, and two days later -- on this date -- he debuted with the Birmingham Stallions. Cribbs gained 52 yards in 16 carries.

Cribbs was back in Buffalo in 1985, and spent two seasons after that in San Francisco. He never gained more than 600 yards on the ground in the second act of his NFL career. But he sure was good

  5. WOW! Sorry to hear this... What were the detail of it and what happened in the end... Did the ambulance take appropriate action? Did your friend see them? What happened with the investigation?

It was 25 years ago, so I don't remember all the details. My friend was a passenger - right side back seat, so the ambulance hit him square, and the three other people in the car were fine........I have no idea what the ambulance did at the scene - I always assumed they were pretty wrecked and weren't about to take off anyway......I doubt the driver saw it. They were on their way to play hockey and probably talking or listening to music. They weren't drinking.......Regarding the investigation, it was in the paper quite a bit and they changed the laws I believe - basically no more speeding thru red lights. Now, you see them creep up to red lights. I remember as a kid, seeing them fly through.

  6. Sorry I found this thread so late. Here's a song and video that was stuck in my head and I finally remembered enough to locate it. Don't know why this guy didn't make it big, but he has an amazing voice. The video is so stylistic, in a simple way, and I dare you to try to take your eyes off of it. Finally, the one back-up singer (the brunette with the hoop earrings)has a smile and eyes that make me want to buy her a house. :flirt:

Wow - that is really awesome. I was just going to play the song in the background, but you were right - I couldn't keep my eyes off it. The fact that all three girls are gorgeous might have contributed to that, though!

  7. Prove it, show me the quote where I condemned an entire race or religion based on a single crime or terrorist attack. If I'm a racist, why would I care what they do to their women who are not white? Are you a misogynist? Because you obviously have a problem with my criticisms.

This "you're a racist" garbage has officially gotten out of hand. I do feel it's libelous and violates the TOS. I'm asking that the mods weigh in on this issue because I certainly won't be coming over here at the PPP any longer unless there are at least ground rules like not being able to continually label someone a racist without cause.

Damn, we're in PPP? I'm subscribed to this thread so I just click on my email...This explains a lot.

  8. I hate how the media causes this critical mass thing that makes everybody in lockstep on a position......For example, in 2003, Tom Donahoe was thought of as our savior. Two years later, he was an idiot who should be ridden out of town. Mainly because he pissed off GR and some other media members.

I see the same thing happening on the 18 game schedule. I hear Jim Rome and just about every other media member calling the NFL hypocrites for saying they are doing all these things to protect players and yet they want to go to an 18 game schedule. That's not hypocritical - you can try to protect the players and still play more games. If the game is so brutal that playing two more games is so horrible, maybe we should rethink playing the game at all.

Take the media out, and I think this is a no brainer - in fact, I've heard the media calling for for less preseason/more regular season for years. Now, because it happens to be the year where all this head injury stuff is really coming to a head (no pun intended), they reversed course.

And, the thing that I think sucks is that then the fans have, too. I think on this site there was a poll and I've seen them elsewhere and nobody seems to want the 18 game schedule. It's like their lemmings. Why would you not want more regular season and less preseason?!?

My guess is they, not like myself and the OP, are not season ticket holders. Preseason games at regular season prices are the ultimate ripoff, and this year is the worst - I'll gladly do it like last year - TO takes one regular, but also one preseason gets taken off our hands. But, the years like this one - where we get less regular than anybody in the league, but still get ripped off for two preseason is friggin horrible.
