I think you're stretching. A LOT.Boy, it seems that a lot of Bills fans would rather our most important offensive weapon last season not be on our team. This is very curious indeed.
I'll say this, it's not like no one brought up character concerns regarding McCoy. Just like injury concerns with Kiko got brought up on the other side. The combination of trading away Kiko plus the contract they gave McCoy was too much in total for my liking. His character was part of that. So was his position. McCoy performed very well in the games he played and, while he said and did some stupid things, he kept out of any real trouble. So I admitted that the trade worked out better than I had thought. Recently I have been sticking up for him. Now this. Should have just stuck to my guns.

NCAA FBS requirement for attendance is 15,000 average over a 2-year rolling period. https://www.ncaa.org/sites/default/files/Football%20Bowl%20Subqa%2012%208%2014.pdf
UB averaged over 20,000 in 2014: http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/football_records/Attendance/2014.pdf
There are often huge discrepancies between official attendance and actual attendance. With free student tickets and discount deals available to everyone else, one also has to consider PAID attendance. That revenue plus booster dollars are what drives programs' bottom lines. How could UB make money in an NFL stadium? They only way is if it got a lot - and I mean A LOT - better as a program. That would need to have to happen first.
Also there is the big question of whether or not there is any advantage to the Bills if they share the stadium. They'll be the ones that have to be sold on the idea because without their support it wouldn't happen.

Re-sign Richie and give Miller some time to develop. Spend what little we have trying to keep what we got intact (and this year is just the beginning of the "lean years", e.g., Gilmore, what to do if Tyrod stays healthy and continues to improve his game).
Can one of you "capologists" out there please help this simpleton feel a little better about our future $$ situation (I trust Whaley with the draft--he's earned as much--but I used to feel like we had a good cap plan too). Thanks!
The Bills are not in not cap hell at the moment, but maybe cap purgatory or cap heck. They'll be able to navigate their salary cap situation, but I worry that to do so we will see a net loss of talent this offseason. Whaley will need to do well in the draft. Clay will restructure his roster bonus, Mario will likely be released and Gillmore will likely be signed to a long term deal. Those will collectively clear a lot of space, but talent-wise we are down Mario. Regardless of his use/misuse last season, that's a huge loss of talent.
Incognito will likely re-sign and hopefully Glenn will. He could also get tagged. While important, those re-signing would just keep those positions even with last season. There will be other releases and signings to be sure, but there won't be space for any high priced free agents (other than our own Glenn or possibly his replacement). Things will clarify quite a bit in the next few weeks so sit tight. Heck, the official base salary cap hasn't even come out yet.
Beyond next season there is concern, too. As you say, what if Taylor earns a huge deal? Heck, what if he just earns a moderate deal? The impact on the 2017 cap will start to come into a little better focus, too. The one thing that could really blow things up is the developing Shady fiasco. If they were forced to release him, it would create another huge hole in the roster as well as a significant cap problem.
-
I find it difficult to believe that the Saints did not attempt to trade Evans prior to his release. They must not have had any takers at any price. Very odd.
Edited to add:
Evans has been missing time recently and his play has fallen off a bit already. That's why no trade. It would be a safe bet that he will either chase a ring or his last decent check. Neither is is a fit in Buffalo.

$10.5M in dead money is cap relief? Plus what we have to pay another starting running back, of course. People really need to learn how the salary cap works.Who is cheering? I think folks are simply looking for a silver lining in the potential cap relief the Bills might receive if it turns out Shady is gone for good.
That explains a lot.Heads up the guy you're replying to is the former jtsp fwiw.
-
Who cares how much the Pegulas spent on Shady last year? It's irrelevant to the current discussion of what happens if his contract is terminated and they face no ongoing financial burden.
They face a hefty immediate cap hit - some of which could be deferred with a post June 1st designation. Oh, and they'd be out a playmaker and immediately in need of a starting RB. That's all.
I'm not defending McCoy. In all likelihood he is probably a total dirtbag and in deep trouble. He also is probably going to hurt the Bills with those actions. I just don't get cheering about it.
-
Joke of a trade/extension that just keeps getting worse. Only silver lining (literally) is if we end up saving coins (millions of them) by being able to terminate his contract for cause.
Yeah! Then the Bills will only be out the $16M they've already paid him for 12 games played! Gosh, that is great news!

Why does UB need a new stadium?
Buffalo can't support two premier stadiums so this is a very plausible idea.
I still think the location and bowl of the Ralph is awesome.
I know some want a downtown dome but this kills Buffalo football tradition. The elements are and should remain a part of the game in B'lo.
The better question is why would UB warrant a "premier stadium"? That is utterly ridiculous. I don't know, maybe try to build the program up to a point where it is somewhat relevant first?
-
I thought he was avg at best, just received a lot of notoriety for the prejudicial comments at that country western concert.
Exactly. Big, but average. Probably not an option for Buffalo with Shady on the team. No loss.
-
IF you're correct -and he IS charged, he'd still be facing League discipline and Bills fans will be the big losers.
The league can chose to discipline a player even if he isn't charged with a crime. Obviously formal charges and convictions would both dramatically increase the chances of league discipline, but it can be implemented without either.
-
You keep saying this but there is an obvious reason...lower cap hits for the rest of his contract.
If restructured, the team would still have the option to roll over the same amount of space and take the same effective cap charges as they would have if they did not restructure. So, they just limit their options by not doing so. That isn't creating an advantage.

The last game UB played at RWS drew 26K which happened to be their 3rd largest crowd ever. UB doesn't need to draw 70K to share a stadium with the Bills. In fact I'd bet the Bills would welcome 6 additional game days in their new downtown stadium, even if it's only 20K. They still eat, drink and buy merch.
I am with MG Kelly on this. Those are all inflated numbers. Even if they weren't, it wouldn't be enough. I live in Williamsville and I've seen that stadium on many game days. And, yes, a college program does need to draw fans to make it worthwhile to utilize an NFL stadium. There is no way that UB could draw enough revenue to make it profitable - especially considering all of the deals, freebie tickets and and other specials used to get attendance up. Honestly, how many pre-game concert goers left before kickoff last season? The downside is as stated a lack of attendance. In Tampa, USF who has a decent following never fills Raymond James stadium. The get maybe 10,000 seats filled and that is with the school practically giving away seats to the students.
the upside is it is cheap, you sit close to the team, and can be fun.
-
No way. UB can't draw 10,000 fans. How do you justify the added wear and tear on an NFL field for that? The Steelers share a field with Pitt and it is always in terrible shape (although it has drainage issues too). Just not worth it. Now that I think about it, an NFL stadium might actually lose money hosting UB games.

Do you genuinely NOT know what the word "Proof" means? It means indisputable evidence. He said conjecture is NOT proof. Ever.
Look, a bunch of non-lawyers arguing about legal definitions. Here is this:
Proof: The conviction or persuasion of the mind of a judge or jury, by the exhibition of evidence, of the reality of a fact alleged: as, to prove, is to determine or persuade that a thing does or does not exist.
http://www.lectlaw.com/def2/p184.htm
So it would actually be a jury that would decide whether or not the evidence of testimony would constitute proof in this case.

Bills reportedly interested last year
@fieldyates
Source: the Saints have released veteran G Jahri Evans.
That's insane. He has $2M of his 2016 salary guaranteed and the Saints are in cap hell. They couldn't have traded him for a low round pick and saved that $2M? What the heck happened?
-
That's a fair point, but I do not see Glenn as a premium player. He's solid. He plays a premium position to be sure, but he would be overpaid as a franchise player. And I think he will be overpaid on the free agent market, true. Not top dollar, but overpaid. Maybe tagging him is worth it to try to sign him to a long term deal or kick the can down the road a year. I'll certainly give you that. No, it's not fun to manage, but he is a player at a premium position and you said he would command top dollar which I think would be more than the average of top salaries and even harder to manage, perhaps.
GO BILLS!!!
It'd be nice to know what Glenn is thinking. Does he want to be here or is he ready to bolt? Is he looking to stay or has his agent already worked another deal on the quiet (should he not get a tag)? I dunno. Maybe the tag is the right answer if a deal can't be reached. Then either work a long term one out with him or address the position next offseason when (hopefully) there are less needs.
http://overthecap.com/player/charles-clay/675His 2016 cap hit is not $19.5M; it's $13.5M.
It is. Copied the wrong number. Will fix previous post. My point stands though. There is no reason to keep it as is and several advantages to restructuring.
-
Well, that's part of the picture. The whole picture is this:Because you're talking about going from three consecutive $6.5M cap hits to three consecutive $9M cap hits.
If you can take it all in one season, it makes life much easier down the road.
Keeping it as it stands:
2016 cap hit: $13.5M
2017-2019 cap hits: $6.5M each
Restructure:
2016 cap hit: $6M
2017-2019 cap hits: $9M each
The Bills need the $7.5M cap space badly this season. If for some reason the space goes unused it can be brought forward, so the Bills could actually still effectively utilize the space per the first scenario. They wouldn't HAVE to do that, but they could if they chose to. But the first example doesn't provide the opportunity to utilize the cap space per the second example. Flexibility is a good thing. Also pushing off cap hits allocates current cash expenditures to be accounted for in years with higher team caps. That means they take up less space percentage-wise. There is zero advantage to taking the hit in 2016 and there is no way it happens.
-
The OL franchise tag is expected to be around $13.5M. That's possible, but not fun to manage. They can and should tag him if that's the case. That average salary is roughly what he would be asking for anyway, IMO.
GO BILLS!!!
Why would you prefer a $10M cap hit this season to four $2.5M cap hits over the next four seasons? With the ability to roll unused cap dollars into future years there is no advantage to taking the hit early. Spreading the hit out just gives the team more flexibility.Again, I really wouldn't want to touch Clay's contract. He's already at $13.5 for this year and $6.5 each of the next 3. Every penny of his $10M roster bonus that you touch this year gets added to those $6.5M figures.
Right now, with their top 51, they're at just about $157.3M (according to Spotrac, which is usually very accurate). Assuming the latest projection of $153.4M is correct for the cap, they're about $4M over right now.
If they choose to go with 1-year contracts over RFA tenders, they can get their RFAs signed for about $7M--more on that here: http://bills.buffalonews.com/2016/01/20/a-look-at-bills-restricted-free-agents/
Add in another $5M or so for draft picks, and you're looking at having to recoup about $16M in cap space.
Cutting Mario gets you $12.9M.
Cutting Dixon gets you $1.1M.
If McKelvin takes a pay cut down to $2.5M, you save another $2.4
Now you're under the cap, but you still need to find space to sign Glenn and Incognito. I'm guessing that'll take between $10M and $12M. Assume Gilmore gets a new deal, and you can score $3M back right there.
This is where I'm looking to guys like Lawson and Urbik to take a pay cut. If they'll both help you out, you can recover another $2M.
That leaves $5M left to find, and this is where I would make the hard decision to part ways with Kyle Williams. He'll be 33 in June, is coming off a shortened season due to injury, and isn't a great fit for what Rex seems to want to do up front. I know it's blasphemy, but that's what I would do if it meant keeping Glenn.
Then you have the choice to part ways with guys like Carpenter and Easley, as well as pick one of Graham or Aaron Williams to keep at safety, if you want to bring in a FA defender or two.
-
Not really , signing Glenn and Incognito can get done; Glenn is almost completely covered by releasing Mario. Between carry over and the cap increase Incognito will not be an issue. Yes after that it will take some juggling but this is the nfl , every year its jigsaw puzzle. Who stays and who goes and hopefully you fill all your holes.
"Can get done" and "will get done" are very different things. If Glenn chases the last dollar I don't see how he remains a Bill.

Nice!!
None were specifically named, they were listed as suspects 1-4. The police report alleges all four assaulted the officers.

Shell of former self, HGH/PED accusations dogging him....seems obvious. Just has to wait for the post Super Bowl wave of season ticket sales to die down before announcing.
Fortunately for him the other QB played even worse.
Newton gave up toward the end, but his team let him down up until then. He actually played well, all things considered, until he quit. He deserves to be dogged for quitting, but his team let him down too.
-
exactly. wait for the video. the bar clearly will have a video of it. He could have simply been in the wrong place, wrong time.
that said, if your a high profile NFL player, just hold parties at your house with friends. Too many people getting "beer muscles" that will want to start trouble with you.
Funny thing there. The security cameras inside the bar were "not functional". Gotta remember, the sole purpose of those cameras are to protect the club. In the event there it be something on them that might incriminates the club or even sheds some bad light on it then their footage disappears. In a trial that kind of video can be used to argue something like: the club should have responded to the fight in less time, so they're partially responsible for the injuries.

I find that hilarious, whether or not it was already planned. It's exactly what I'd put out there if I was his agent. "LeSean, you were planning to head to - I don't know, somewhere far away - Phoenix. For training. Today. Now get on a plane and get the f*** out of Philly. Remember, it was a planned trip."@geoffmoshernfl
Timing is everything in NFL. Per source, LeSean McCoy was supposed to head to Phoenix today to start his offseason training.
-
Could be as simple as a drunk idiot thinking it's his.
Yup. And two groups of people who think normal laws and rules don't apply to them. Naw! Couldn't be!
