  1. It seems like the trendy pick this year is the Jags. Everyone thinking they could surprise.

There are good things happening in Jax and that's due to coaching and the GM both. That team should be on the rise.

3rd place, Jets last, Phins 2nd, Pats 1st

I am not a Phish believer. That team is a train wreck. I just can't put them second. Pats 1st for sure and then it's a crapshoot from there.

  2. BB has the right to act that way. He has 3 rings and wins every year. Plus he's a genius coach (as much as we hate to admit it). Some guys get to be jerks. Marrone doesn't. Further, we have doctors and trainers, etc. Give us a general timetable.

This is ludicrous. Every coach in the league is vague about injuries. Classic hater post.

Bronc is right. BB has always been the same way, after he won championships, before he won championships, when he was in Cleveland, always.

  3. I said this last night. Josh Freeman is a free agent. He is 26 and has elite NFL physical attributes. In 2012 he threw for 27 TDs and over 4000 yards.

Something happened that caused him to fall off a cliff, no doubt. I did a little research on it last night and it sounds a lot like he got railroaded by Shiano (who we know is a full blown scumbag) who may have leaked that Freeman failed a drug test which was actually because Freeman changed his ADHD medication.

In any case. I'd rather have Josh Freeman and at least a chance that he can compete in the NFL than two guys that should be playing flag football.

I've read a few rumors about Freeman. The troubling ones are regarding some significant substance abuse issues. Not talking pot. Again, they are rumors but things line up pretty well if true. If a team could trust him to stay clean he'd be worth a look. I'm. to sure that teams do, however.

  4. ALL of the pieces necessary? I think a franchise QB still has to emerge. EJ may be that guy, but until he proves he is I'm not checking that box. I have hope for the receiving corps, but Watkins has yet to play a real NFL game and he's the only one teams are going to have to game plan for. Again, I'm hopeful that we have others developing, but there is much left to prove. I like our RBs, but our starter is on the last year of his deal and our backup is 33 and on the last year of his deal. The defense has some real talent, but was very susceptible to the run last season. Even if Spikes fixes that he's on a one year deal, too.

I'm of the mind that I want to see what the Bills have before making such grandiose statements.

  5. No one runs the read option better and when he is not thinking about his throwing motion ( thanks arm "gurus") and just lets it go he is not as bad as he looked.

our backups are bad, Doug get your head out of the sand and do something about this. Or maybe, I don't know, take a flier on a guy in the draft. You wanted to trade up for a RB in round two when you should have trade back into the first for Manziel. :wallbash:

Lots of distraction for a guy who can't throw NFL passes. Desperation is ugly.

  6.

My money is on Primanti Brothers!

Fathead's in the Southside for insane burgers and sandwiches. Wings and nachos too.

Church Brew Works near the Strip District is worth a visit. Good beer, decent pizza, and certainly unique.

Man I always hated Primanti Bros sandwiches. I think it was the bread because I have no issue with fries on my sandwich.

I love me some Fatheads though. Go there for food and beer - both are great. The Church Brewery is cool and the food was good, but the beer was not. Great set up though.

  7. I would chose either "the ability to anticipate receivers who are about to come open" or "better accuracy". Seriously, who gives a rat's ass if he wears a visor or wants a jacket on the sidelines? Do you think anyone cares about this crap if the QB in question has proven himself to be a quality NFL QB? If Manuel improves I hope we can put all this stuff behind us.

  8. Betting lines are not based on the facts; they are based on fan perceptions. If more people believe the Bears are the better team, then the odds will favor the Bears even though they may not be the better team. What were the odds on the Seahawks smashing Denver in the Super Bowl?

That's probably why I used the words "public" and "perception" in my post.

  9. The Vegas lines are showing the Bills as a 6-6.5 point dog, so it isn't just Chicago. Even with the home field advantage that shows that the public thinks the Bears are about a field goal better than the Bills. That isn't huge and it is certainly defensible. That doesn't mean the Bills can't win. They can. The public just thinks the Bears just have a better chance. That's all. I find it difficult to complain about people expecting an average team to beat the Bills when the Bills have been below average. The only thing that will change that perception is winning.

  10. I'm pretty sure that is exactly what every fan of every team without a proven franchise QB wishes for. In Buffalo we have to hope EJ develops as we are stuck together for a couple seasons. He looked better in this last preseason game. He's still got a long way to go, but all we can do is watch and hope.

  11. Fred Jackson has been great and I really like him as our #2 RB. I think he is one of the best in that role, but does anyone really think that we should pin our hopes on a 33 year old starter at RB? I don't see anyone I'm excited about behind him either. I would not be surprised if this was CJ's agent's way of drumming up an offer to get CJ out of town and on a team willing to give him a long term deal now.

  12.

Seems like he really has a case, for failing the drug test. That's a really stupid way to test. If "A" is ok then no need to test "B" even if "B" is way over. But if "A" is over they test "B" and if it's under do nothing. Odd.

Not sure how his DWI would play into it though.

And, oddly, they only test sample B for the existence of the banned substance. The amount of the banned substance in that sample isn't suppossed to be considered - just whether or not that substance exists in it. Very odd. Had the samples been labeled the other way around the test would've been considered negative.

  13.

So we are doomed b/c Ej went 2 for 7, in two series in an EXTRA preseason game? 3 of those incompletions were batted passes from ej putting too much on the ball resulting In lower trajectory. This game was an extra preseason game. It was an extra opportunity for the coaching staff to evaluate the bottom of the roster. If Marrone and co. We're worried about ej they would have left him in there.

Your reading comprehension needs a lot of work. That, or when you don't like someone else's opinion you overstate it in an attempt to make them seem unreasonable. Neither reflects well.

  14. Watching the post game on NFLN and Brian billick blamed the missed long pass From EJ to Watkins... On Sammy. He said EJ had it timed perfectly but Sammy pinned himself to the sideline, may have worked at Clemson but won't in NFL. Interesting.

Also, MT @mikerodak: Doug Marrone says his tablet did not work in first half tonight. NFL implementing that tonight

    !

@JonahJavad: Q: "Any injuries?" Doug Marrone: "Seantrel [Henderson] sweated a lot..." #Bills #HOFGame

It did look like a clear overthrow, but perhaps Watkins made a mistake earlier in his route (i.e. getting pinned on the sidelines) that made him late to his spot. Dunno.

  15.

We did see something...a perfect pass in the EZ that Mike Williams misplayed.

Please stop. Catchable, yes. Perfect, no. Not exactly a drive in any event. Overall three batted passes in single digit attempts. F me. He had two or three good throws, but none were difficult. Every NFL QB should be completing quick WR screens and short, middle of the field throws. I hope he impresses, but thus far he has not. It is early, but there are no rose colored glasses thick enough for me to think I saw something encouraging.

  16.

The batted passes, made no adjustment after the first one and his last pass should have been a pick...

I honestly hoped for a little more from him...

I know it is 1 series in the preseason...I know

All I can think of for the narrative of this season: A Good Defense Wasted

Yes, it is way too early to write off EJ, but it would have been really nice to have seen something positive. And please, please, please no more Tuel/Lewis can be the answer crap. That's just desperation.

  17. Keep in mind lines are set based on perception, not reality. Plenty of people (erroneously) think that a new owner will be bringing his own guy immediately.

From an odds perspective it makes a lot of sense as new ownership usually brings in their own guys. The exceptions are usually successful coaches and GMs. If the Bills don't start winning very soon I'd expect a total housecleaning when new ownership gets control.

  18. Ok, first thing I did was go to Wiki...

1993, beat the Cowboys... the eventual Superbowl Champions (against us)

1994, beat the Patriots (Wild Card team), and Dolphins (1st AFCE)

1995, beat the Colts (Wild Card team)

1996, beat the Eagles (Wild Card team)

1997, no road wins against playoff teams, but did beat the 9-7 Jets

1998, no road wins against playoff teams

1999, beat the Dolphins (Wild Card team), and Washington (1st NFCE)

2000, no road wins against playoff teams

2001, beat the Jets (Wild Card team)

2002, no road wins against playoff teams, but did beat the 9-7 Dolphins

2003, no road wins against playoff teams

2004, beat the Seahawks (1st NFCW)

2005, beat the Bengals (1st AFCN)

2006, beat the Jets (Wild Card team)

2007, beat Washington (Wild Card team)

2008, no road wins against playoff teams

2009, beat the Jets (Wild Card team)

2010, no road wins against playoff teams

2011, no road wins against playoff teams

2012, no road wins against playoff teams

2013, no road wins against playoff teams

That's actually a pretty damning list. In the last 20 years the Bills have 12 road wins against playoff bound teams, 8 of which were wildcard teams and just one in the last 6 years. That's rough.

  19. i didn't say that was WHY they made the trade. I said it is an overlooked aspect. And it is, because the Bills have a very young team that if they want to keep together they need a lot of freed up cap space. 1st rd Rookie deals are cheaper than ever, but that doesn't make them cheap. I don't care where the pick is or who the browns take or don't take. The bills would be very unlikely to take a QB next year and any other position can be had in FA if there is a real need. I don't need to "believe" it. It is discussed frequently amongst front office cap people.you can be a lot more creative with an FA deal than a 1st rd rookie deal when it comes to guaranteed money and length.and they will need to be creative over the next few years and hopefully more as they develop the very good talent they have selected.

It's not an overlooked aspect because it isn't really an aspect. You don't save money by not having a first round pick because the value of that pick is very high. Production versus pay expectations very much favor production. That's why draft picks are valuable. Just look at what 1st round picks make on their SECOND contracts. Or just look at the link to what they make now. Then compare that to what gets paid to some very run-of-the-mill FAs. Draft picks add talent cheaply if used correctly. Every last front office person knows all of this.

  20. lol. It does free up money though over the next few years. We have a lot of mouths to feed coming off of rookie deals.

I can't believe that you really believe that. Draft picks - even high first rounders - are generally the cheapest way to add talent to a roster. High draft picks are also (with rare exceptions) the only way to add highly talented players at certain positions, QB included. If the a Bills happen to be in the market for one of those next offseason and that player goes to the Browns with the Bills' pick how is that going to sit?

Here is the rookie salary info:

    http://overthecap.com/nfl-rookie-salary-cap-2014.php

Bear in mind that each rookie who makes a team eliminates a current player and their salary so there is an offset of at least $420k in salary, but possibly much more. So even the 10th overall pick at $2.3M would add less than $1.9M to the cap. Less than $2M for the player chosen with the 10th pick. And you're happy about not having that. Maybe you should reconsider.

  21. I don't care if you think he can or can't be the guy. This kid is someone that is so ridiculously easy to root for. Here's hoping we ride him to the promised land! Nice video thanks for posting :thumbsup:

Well said. Affable and charismatic. Definitely the kind of guy you'd love to have as the face of your franchise. Let's just hope he can turn the corner.
