After Israel trade a thousand terrorists for one Israeli Hamas thought they would be bullet proof with a hundred hostages. Big mistake if they thought Isarel would not fight back. Even with the families begging to get their families back on TV, Israel still looks poised for an invasion and a wiping out from the roots Hamas. Those poor hostages and the terror stricken families praying for them. I don't think the chances are great they come home, sad to say. -

Technology will play a giant role in the urban combat, if it comes to that. Israel might have a tough slog, but drones are really coming into there own and could, perhaps, really lighten the load. Small drones can clear building, find snipers, and blow up unsuspecting targets hiding in rubble or under ground. Once Gaza has been pacified, I would not be surprised to see the same type of technology used by China in locking down their ethnic minority they have imprisioned. Cameras everywhere, facial recognition, even motion detectors that sound alarms if people are running.Might not work, but it sure sounds better than a full occupation. There has to be some end game, right? -

You actually want that idiot in charge of our government at a time like this? Will he pull out his Sharpy to show how he deflected a missile Seriously, Ukraine would of been crushed had Trump been president. -
Rep. John S. Duarte (R-Calif.), a freshman who called this week for fellow California Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy to be reinstated as speaker, said he would vote for Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) on the House floor. “Scalise had the majority of the votes, so I don’t think there’s going to be a problem on the moderate end of the conference,” Duarte, a freshman who represents a swing district, told reporters. But another McCarthy ally, Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez (R-Fla.), said he planned to vote for McCarthy on the floor in protest of McCarthy’s ouster. “I just choose not to participate in what I consider to be an injustice,” Gimenez said.

Good questions. Seems like the right wing over there just wants to grind them down to dust. They've given up on peaceful solutions and were waging low intensity conflict in west bank taking more land and now this blows up. -

Well, these people will have a chance to show their stuff. Maybe drones will make it so a Gaza incursion isn't as big a bloodbath as it might be TEL AVIV: In an Israeli desert, different autonomous drones will creep around corners and float through doorways, generate 3D layouts of interiors and automatically classify humans, animals and other objects — perhaps while a human places a device on one wall that allows them to “see” threats on the other side. At least that’s the hope for the upcoming MoSAIC competition, put on by the Israeli military’s research directorate and the Pentagon’s Irregular Warfare Technical Support Directorate (IWTSD). The idea is to put the latest urban warfare technology to the test, and to see which systems might work in concert with one another in one of the military’s most fraught combat scenarios. “It is evident that there will be no single technological solution but rather a toolbox of scalable, layered, modular, and multi-functional capabilities to enable operators to remotely and autonomously perform the full range of indoor missions,” the MoSAIC website reads. The “physical testbed” demonstration portion of the competition will be held next week in Yeruham in the Negev Desert in southern Israel. For the US, it’s a chance to see some Israeli tech that’s already been proven in urban combat, including some tech that is generally classified but has received permission to compete. “These systems have proved their capabilities and are now being upgraded as the challenges get more complicated,” a defense source here said. Tal Inbar, a senior Israeli analyst specializing in unmanned systems, told Breaking Defense Israeli firms have “developed drones, ground robots and auxilery systems that can detect targets in confined areas and attack them either by integral systems or by sharing data with other robotic systems.” https://breakingdefense.com/2022/03/israel-us-team-up-for-high-tech-urban-warfare-competition/ -

The fight against ISIS has provided both sides with experience, or at least information about, urban combat. I'm sure this link is dated now, as fighting and technological advances made in that conflict in Ukraine will be on display when the IDF invades Gaza. https://mwi.westpoint.edu/mq-9s-over-sirte-unmanned-airpower-for-urban-combat/ Overflying the Urban Battlefield The MQ-9’s flying characteristics allowed its crews to track targets in urban terrain. At low speed and medium altitudes, the aircraft could see in to urban canyons to provide a far more detailed picture of the battlespace than that offered by other aircraft. The live feed was downlinked in real time to US commanders, strike cells, and intelligence centers far from Sirte. Footage could then be slowed down, reviewed, and fused with historical imagery and other intelligence products to maximize the understanding of the fight. While full-motion video is the signature capability of the MQ-9, video alone lacked the context necessary to effectively conduct urban CAS in irregular warfare. Multiple sensors and a contextual understanding of the battlefield were essential for effective air support. Because trained analysts processed data from video and other sources in real time, the Reaper missions allowed US forces to develop a thorough understanding of the situation. This provided both commanders and aircrew with high-confidence assessments of exactly what they were seeing before choosing to employ weapons. Operating above the city, the Reaper’s relatively low speed and small orbit size enabled the crews to strike targets that would have been beyond the capability of other aircraft. In the first month of the operation, an MQ-9 used a Hellfire missile to neutralize an ISIS fighting position on the bottom floor of a multi-story building. The target was between two taller structures, and masked from above by a balcony. By holding along a precise bearing to the target, the crew was able to maintain its line of sight and guide the Hellfire directly on to the enemy. Because of the low speed of the aircraft, and the high velocity of the missile, the crew could release the weapon and maintain the aircraft’s position throughout the time of flight to ensure a precise hit. -

Shuttered Israeli schools to switch to remote classes Israeli schools will switch to remote learning starting on Sunday, Israel’s Education Ministry said, according to Reuters. The studies will put emphasis on ways to “strengthen resilience, and on educational content appropriate for the situation,” the ministry said. Israeli schools were already closed, with some universities set to delay the start of the new term, following the Saturday terrorist attack of Palestinian militant group Hamas. — Ruxandra Iordache https://www.cnbc.com/2023/10/11/live-updates-latest-news-on-gaza-and-israel-hamas-conflict.html Nine United Nations staff members have been killed in airstrikes in the Gaza Strip since the Saturday terrorist attack by Palestinian militant group Hamas, the U.N. Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said Wednesday in a post on the X social media platform, previously known as Twitter. “The protection of civilians is paramount, including in times of conflict. They should be protected in accordance with the laws of war,” said Juliette Touma, UNRWA director of communications.
