Well. He's never been used as a full time running back and he's def. made his name as a ST guy. If anyone should have chapter and verse on him that would be Roman, who did cut him.

OTOH, last year behind an atrocious OL, he had the best YPA on the team at 4.1 YPA. He's not a cut-on-a-dime guy with the speed to break big but there's something there. And there is something to say for that 2-3 tough yard ability. LIfetime he's 3.5 ypa which does move the chains (but of course the devil is in the details).

Just to play devil's advocate, he was pressed into a starting type role in week 8 last year. He carried 22 / 44, it's a small sample size, I know, but the closest to starting and being an every down back.

  2. WRT the QB's

EJ looked improved in "practices" and he performed very well in Pre Season games throwing for multiple TD's leading the team to score the most points, so that is a plus.

TT (like EJ) is performed well in Pre Season games leading the team to score points on the ground and not in the air. Yet he is still an unproven just like EJ.

so, I'd have to say you would have to score a ? over a++

put in EJ. Isn;t that what most said when speaking of Cassel? Average isn't good enough?

If this is about comparing last year at this time to this year at this time, the QB position has improved by leaps and bounds, IMO

Does who starts the season at QB really matter at this point? What I mean is that whoever starts certainly isn't going to have a lock hold on it. I fully expect Cassel to lose the job at some point because defenses will start suffocating the offense when they know what plays are coming just like they did with Orton.

In the end, I really hope that Rex starts the season with the shaky/big play ability young guy (whichever) rather than the steady/no big play Cassel.

WRT Cassell losing the job because of suffocating defenses and knowing which plays are coming, IIRC, I have heard a lot of different plays are being installed from the same formations that way the defense can't get a lock on the play. I personally don't care who wins the job, whoever gives them the best chance to win. If it is Cassell so be it, then he can help mentor the younger and less experienced QB's for the future. If it's Manuel or Taylor, then they have obviously shown enough upside to win the starting position and should get better as season progresses. There are positives to come from any of the 3 starting.

  4. Baltimore had 3 different OC's in Tyrod's 4 years there, if that counts.

IIRC, it was also stated that Tyrod ran the scout team offense every week while with Baltimore for defensive game planning. That should give him exposure to multiple offensive schemes in the NFL. Granted he didn't have much time to actually learn the entire scheme, but he did have exposure to it.

Nelson was always a middle-of-the-pack receiver who played above his talent by being smart about the plays and having good hands. If he's lost a step with the knee injuries and the time spent in sub-optimal off-season training environments while his peers are hitting the plyos super hard and watching film of defensive coverage, then he's gonna fall to the bottom and meet the scissors.

How do you "play above your talent"? Not trying to be an a-hole, just trying to understand.

Edit: nevermind. I read that wrong. I understand what you mean now... duh

  6. We've been the "nice guy loser" for so long, I don't mind a few knuckleheads if it means playoffs at this point.

+1.. my post from another thread..

"During the last 15 years, the Bills have built themselves a real "Mr. Niceguy" club that they tried to call a football team. It's time for some nasty on the field. I would much rather be reading stories about how the Bills are kicking ass and going deep into the playoffs than about how player XYZ helped some little old lady and her dog across the street. As long as this does not interfere with his performance on the field, whatever, I say"

  7. somewhere, fred jackson sighs.

shady is certainly not what i have come to think of as "a bill" (the kyle, fred type). hopefully he's good enough on the field to offset this shenanigans.

  8. I don't assume that Whaley is attached to Bryce Brown beyond what he has and can prove in terms of his worth. GMs make great acquisitions and bad acquisitions. The good ones know when to move on, they don't stick with a guy just because he traded for him. If he isn't going to help the team more than another guy on the roster I don't think he will hesitate to move on. Jmo.

Agreed. Pride should not be a determining factor when making roster decisions. Unfortunately, IMO, it is in some cases.
