  1. The perception of Derek Carr is that he is a franchise QB in the making in Oakland, and the Raiders should build around him. The perception of EJ is he is a bust in the making in Buffalo and the Bills should replace him. I saw this tweet and it made me think that while most of us have reservations about EJ it doesn't make much sense to give up on him this early.

@ChrisTrapasso: Reminder: #Bills QB EJ Manuel has played fewer games than Derek Carr. Manuel better comp %, TD %, YPA, QB rating. Carr better sack %, INT %

The expectations around these two QBs were very different. The Raiders were rebuilding and not expected to win many games. There wasn't pressure on Carr to win. He wasn't asked to play not to lose, IMO. He didn't win his first game until November. He won 3 games total out of 16. None on the road.

EJ's situation called for him to win now. He was not looked at as a developing player he was looked at immediately as the guy holding the team back because he was... Developing. Not saying that's wrong but the timing was not in his favor like it was for Guys like Carr and Bortles. They are not expected to be great right away because their teams are rebuilding. The Bills were already built. And coaches and GMs felt their jobs were on the line with new ownership. They didn't have time for a rookie QB.

I wonder if roles were reversed - and EJ was drafted last year by Oakland and Carr by Buffalo, would the perceptions of the two players be the same? This is a bad time to give up on a young QB who has won games for you, because of the lack of obvious better options out there to replace him. I may be in the minority but I think this is a new start for EJ that he needed. If he can't win in this new system, it can be time to pull the plug. I don't know if Marrone's system was the best for him. He wasn't invested in developing EJ. I understand why they put Orton in when they did and agreed with the move at the time. But EJ is young and has upside. I feel if the offense was tailored more to his strengths he could win with this team. I think Roman is the right guy.

The team is still built to win now. The defense is excellent, expected only to get better under Ryan/Thurman. They signed R.I., a sign that they are addressing the o-line and should have it solidified come training camp. RB, same thing, shouldn't be to hard to address through the draft.

On that note, I would like to see EJ light it up this year. I personally think the young man deserves a fair shot. Thrown to the wolves, as stated by the OP.

  2. watch his game tape in Chicago. he was the product of a good team with arguably the best receivers in the league at his disposal. he would literally throw the ball up for grabs and the receivers would make the plays. he has 11 years of bad stats and 1 year of good stats. and it's much different when you are the guy and all of the pressure is on you. he had no pressure in Chicago. nobody expected anything from him so he just went out there and threw the ball up in the air and whatever happens happens. with Tampa and now with the Bills everyone is going to expect him to be that veteran guy that we need but that's not him. he is just a backup QB and that's all he will ever be.

if we are signing him as a backup then fine. but unfortunately we are signing him as the "top free agent QB in the NFL" and he is definitely not that!

I don't know, I find it a little hard to believe that J.M. just went out and chucked the ball up hoping his guys would make a play. 13 TD / 1 INT are pretty decent numbers to just throw it up. I also didn't watch the Bears in 2013, so I very well may be speaking out of place.

IMO, if the Bills don't explore every option then they haven't done their due diligence in their QB search. They are not in the position to leave stones unturned. I am glad that they are active, better than the alternative.

  3. Incognito, Ray Rice, and Greg Hardy...

Might as well bring OJ back to coach our RBs.

I want to win as much as the next guy, but I have a really hard time cheering for ****ty people.

    Go Bills :bag:

Just cheer for the rest of the team. RI won't know that you're secretly not cheering for him, but he sure will think you are. Hahaha... SUCKER!!!!

  4. Not sure how "darker" makes a difference but the Seahawks program with Wilson as QB is one worth emulating. The Bills have a strong defense...like the Seahawks. The Bills offensive line is still suspect until proven otherwise. So...if Daniels has the smarts and understanding of Trent Dilfer and the elusiveness of Russell Wilson I would take him.

If the 49ers saw enough in him to draft him and the Seahawks saw enough in him to claim him, sign him, and give him a promotion to the active roster it might indicate he would be a calculated risk worth taking.

I am pretty sure that the "darker" reference has nothing to do with his abilities. Seems to me that it was a comparison of physical traits between RW and TD. The fact that TD is 6'4, weighs about 250 lbs. and has a fairly pale skin tone, and RW is 5'11", weighs about 210 lbs and unless my eyes deceive me, has a somewhat darker complexion. If his skill sets are similar to that of TD, i would say the comparison that was made, is fairly spot on. All the poster was doing was pointing out physical difference.

  5. I assume he knew he wasn't likely to get the OC job, otherwise you're right. He might have been held back by Saint Doug, but Marrone did give him his first good gig as OC in Syracuse and his first big NFL gig as OC in Buff. Marrone will get some job, maybe in college, if not the NFL and Hackett will be an OC again.

IMO, Marrone is counting on Bradley being a bum and taking over in Jax, maybe as soon as next year, and Hackett is right there with him.

Why bring him back for a second interview if they were more than likely not to offer the job? IMO, a second interview is because enough interest is garnered in the first interview and they want to dig deeper in round two.

  6. I thought it was funny. Oh, and just because they don't have a Buffalo accent doesn't mean theynaren't Bills fans. My two boys are growing up in FL and are huge Bills fans because of my illness with my fandom of the Bills.

Agreed, I have never set foot in the state of NY, and I have never had the pleasure of attending a Bills game. I have been a bills fan since the mid 80's. I want my first game I attend to be a home game in December, so I can get the True experience of Bills fandamonium in all of it's glory. To some, that may not seem like much, but living in FL my whole life, and now raising 5 kids, doesn't leave a whole lot of time, or the means necessary to make it there. But I sure do love me some Buffalo Bills.

  7. You guys do realize that had things worked out differnetly...we would have had NO changes in any of our coaches

That would have been a very bad thing

I'm not trying to take a shot at you, but without providing specifics on your usage of the word "differently", I think to say that there would have been NO changes in the coaching staff is inaccurate. One step in a different direction along the way, has the potential to alter everything from that point on.

IMO, I do feel like at the end of the day, the Bills walked away with the best possible outcome that was available. It's time for Bills fans to kick back and enjoy a little R & R (Ryan & Roman). The time is here for a new AFCE Juggernaut. Let the dynasty begin.

  8.

The Patriots are a great team. Belichick is a great coach. Brady is one of the best QBs to ever play the game.

Kinda makes me wonder how a 6th round draft pick has had so much success, and a coach could be so masterful of the game. Several small advantages combined, pay huge dividends at the end of the day. Not accusing, I'm just sayin....

Edit: Nevermind, I see another poster already posted the same thing, just worded differently.

  9.

it's an opinion like nearly everything else posted here. i don't see nix, whaley or marrone as elite football intellects much less above average overall intellects.

Overall, I think Marrone, has done a good job. No, they didn't make it to the playoffs this year like we had all hoped. The tide is turning at OBD though and looking at the bigger picture, I like the foundation that Marrone has built. To be continued in 2015.... Go Bills

  10.

I found it interesting he used the word "blame"

I think Whaley was justified using "blame". Whaley, along with the rest of the brass at OBD, have been scrutinized and blamed all season long for the QB fiasco. Outsiders, as well as media insiders, have pinned the EJ selection on everyone at the top, or "assigned the blame".

  11. Dropped further down the draft board, and watched our arch rival get valuable NFL experience for their bench QB while ours sat on the sideline the entire game.

Our Oline did a pretty good job today in protection, it wouldn't have been like we were throwing EJ to the wolves.

Did Orton need more playing time so we can evaluate him, or did EJ?

Moves like this are so painfully shortsighted its laughable.

So if they lost today, you'd be talking about how they actually won?

I wonder what their pick would've been had they lost, and what is the difference in talent between the pick they currently hold vs. what they would've had. I'd rather have a W in the books and beating the Pats* than a slightly higher pick. If it were earlier picks in the draft that were on the line, then my line of thinking would be different.
