  1. IMO, that Moment hasn't arrived yet. Our 9-7 record last year was a reverse mirage of the previous years where we routinely snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Were it not for being the undefeated 'champs' of the NFC North, we'd have sucked like every other year this century.

Now, can/will that 'moment' arrive this season? Ans: if we're 2-0, THATS the Moment!

So the Bills beat Green Bay, Detroit, Chicago, and Minnesota, but you are saying if it wasn't for those wins, the Bills suck? But they didn't lose to those teams, so I don't get how you can take those wins away from them. To try and prove a point? Had they made the playoffs, I wonder if you'd still be trying to discredit those 4 wins. The Bills are a team on the rise. Getting better each year as they go (finally). They aren't at the top yet, but to take anything away from them to play the "what if" game in order to say they are as bad as always, IMO, is just not fair.
  2. There's no way we put another $100 M player on our D-line, so it's time to move Dareus for a major impact player. Who do you think we can get with him or which draft pick ??

I'm curious, since you put it out there, what are your thoughts on what the Bills could get for him? Who would be your impact player you'd like to see brought in? And at that point wouldn't you also have to pay said impact player? If you go with a draft pick as compensation, there is No guarantee that that player would make an impact, let alone the kind of impact that Dareus makes.

  3. Is he significantly better than Incognito? I'm not sure yet I'd say the guy has one good thing about him, as me, him, Matthew Barnaby and Derek Roy all share something in common.

ha. I think he's better than the other G options. I would play him and incognito at both guard spots.

I believe that Roman will be able to adapt his scheme to the players talents far better than Hackett (Marrone), therefore making the O-Line better, even with the same personnel. I think that's why that haven't done as much to address the O-Line in the off season, like many thought they should have. Reading between the lines on Whaley's comments about the draft, that not too many players will make it, IMO, is because they know the O-Line is already there. The pieces are there to put this puzzle together, but Marrone was trying to build the puzzle looking at the back of it. The Bills are going to be awesome this year. They knew they needed the playmakers on offense and went out and got them. The QB situation will play itself out and one of them will step up and separate themselves as a #1.

  4.

Yes, hypothetically, it could work that way. As others have stated, however, the timing of this "leak" is odd.

yes, unless the Steelers view it as a double secret smokescreen and trade up for Grayson assuming that's who the Bills really wanted

I assume that draft boards are pretty much set already and that's why there are questions regarding the timing and ineffectiveness of a smokescreen 2 days prior to the draft.

IMO, it would still be effective though. Whaley sits back and waits until 2 days before the draft and then makes his visit. Wouldn't that in turn make teams question his motive for such a late visit? Kind of a "now that the boards are set, I can go visit my guy". Making it appear that he is very interested and can visit freely because the boards are set. Would that not raise some eyebrows, or is just that apparent that it's a smokescreen?

  5. @FLbills -- I don't believe teams specifically draft players to "keep them away" from another team. But teams certainly do trade up to jump ahead of a team to get a player they want if they believe said team also wants that player.

By floating misinformation about the players in which your team has true interest, you may influence trade opportunities and/or cause a player you really covet to fall down the draft board.

And in the case of the poorer scouting organizations, you might actually influence their selection decisions.

    This is all hypothetical:

Ok, so Whaley puts out the smokescreen and goes and talks to Petty to provide the rest of the teams with the misinformation that the Bills are interested in him, all the while having true interest in Garrett Grayson. However, the Steelers (pick #56) are also interested in Grayson to groom behind Ben. With Whaley showing interest in Petty, the Steelers do not feel it is necessary to trade up to pick #49 in order to get Grayson due to the smokescreen from Whaley. Bills are on the clock and now able to draft Grayson because the Steelers didn't trade up because of the false interest in Petty.

Did I understand that correctly? Thanks for helping clear it up for me.

  6. Smokescreens? I don't understand this, what is the reason behind it?

My thoughts are, why do teams need to do this? For example: When it comes time for Team A to draft, they are going to take who they need, one that fits their scheme of what they are trying to build. Why would they draft a player that doesn't fit, just to block Team B from drafting that player? It would become a wasted pick at that point, no? What is the purpose of a smokescreen when it comes to the draft (and yes, I understand the principle of a smokescreen, to offer many options to whoever it is directed at so as to not tip your hand in the direction you are going)? I have been curious about this for quite awhile.

  7.

I think bringing in the Ray Rice Sins card is specious. Hardy is paying for Hardy's sins. Whether the payment is just and consistent and administered fairly is very valid to question.

This seems a bit contradictory, IMO. Without having something or someone (R.R.) to compare payment to, you can't really question "Whether the payment is just and consistent and administered fairly".

  8. Comparing him to Flacco just by using the stat sheet is not accurate.

IMO, it is very accurate. It shows what Flacco was able to accomplish single-handedly. Coincidentally enough, roughly the same as E.J.. Had the supporting cast around him been better, then there is a good chance they would have advanced to the playoffs and possibly won a few games.

With that being said, the QB's that posted mediocre stats and still we're able to advance to the playoffs is the exact situation the Bills are in now. Very talented team at the skill positions (minus QB and OL) on both sides of the ball. An average QB should be able to carry this team into the playoffs and hopefully fairly deep.

  9. Agreed. May not predict it will happen but there is a chance for sure. Kelly could probably do it, too.

If Johnny Eightball didnt like Mariotta signing with Oregon how is he going to like getting traded to Philly and then Kelly doing everything he can to get Mariotta.

Part of Chip's master plan to "get back" at J.M. for bailing on him at Oregon?

Ego problem for Chip, as in he has to have last laugh... /sarcasm...

  10. Its going to be an interesting season...here are some things to consider I see coming up all year:

    1. Watkins, Woods, Clay, Harvin will all have a great impact on the success of this offense if healthy, but the stats wont reflect nearly the same impact. There is only one football to go around, and in a run first offense, those 4 guys will be inconsistent in terms of the stat sheet because we have so many play makers and any one of them is capable of a big week. So, while I believe Harvin can be explosive, I don't know if statistically it will come close to his most productive year simply because of how much the ball is likely to be spread around.

    2. Harvin has to stay healthy. His ability speaks for itself, but its inability to stay on the field. The good news is with how many weapons we have, that may help him stay healthier as the ball is spread around more.

    3. McCoy is most likely going to be a sizeable factor receiving the ball as well, taking receptions away from our talented foursome of Watkins, Woods, Harvin, and Clay.

    4. I expect the "We should have taken OBJ" nonsense to not only continue and be fueled by the difference in stats of the people who only check stat sheets...all the while completely ignoring the fact that Sammy is going to be on a run first team with one of the most talented roster of offensive weapons in football to spread the ball around to while OBJ is going to be the focal point of his offense.

    5. People are going to complain about Clays stats versus his contract all year because he is likely going to be inconsistent statistically again given the talent of the skill players and a run first offense...again ignoring what his real impact is and how he creates mismatches and opportunities for our 3 WRs and our Run Game.

All very valid points. Well put. I agree but I think the O is going to light it up this year. I think EJ will break out this year and this will be a high powered offense. The idea that they will be a run first type of O, opens the door for bigger plays in the passing game as defenses will be keying on the run. The receivers will have big games and shush the naysayers. Of course this is all just y opinion and you know what they say about that.

  11.

I know they are just getting a sweat going but Hogan is telegraphing his route. Watch the way his body leans and his legs before he makes his out cut. If I'm a DB I'm jumping that route all day. I think he is a good athlete but he still has a lot to learn about being a receiver. Our top 3 guys are so much more advanced I don't know how much he is going to see the field this year barring any injuries

I agree that he is telegraphing the route, but the DB can't necessarily jump the route. What if the route is an out and up and the DB jumps it, He's gonna get burnt. Just my .02.

  12. Remember when they let Mankins go last year. We were all proclaiming that it would bite them in the butt. Didn't exactly turned out that way.

True, but it seems as though they are losing more "key" pieces to the defense this year as opposed to previous years. Which possibly could have a greater effect on the Bills success against them. With the FA resignings + FA additions to the team and Rex as HC now, this definitely isn't the same old Bills that BB is used to.

Ryan's coaching tendencies are no secret, but Ryan will be facing NE with a completely new team, that IMO, is much more talented overall than what he had while with the Jets. I believe the Bills chances this year will be much better than say oh, THE LAST 15 YEARS!!! The Bills will be the AFC East champs this year, bank it. It's the dawn of a new era in the AFCE.
