  1. Continuation from Carrington thread

Bills & Byrd cannot agree to a multi year deal, but they can agree to a one year deal. This is where Parker is feeling the Bills out on a long term extension beyond 2013. The easiest thing to do is sign the tender and collect $6.9 million this year and wait until next year. But Parker also wants assurance that Bills won't tag him again in 2014. Part of his negotiation could be signing a larger one year deal this year as a downpayment on a longer term deal beyond 2013. If the Bills are insisting on sticking with the firm FP rules, then he's holding his player out until the last second possible. Fans don't like that, but that's not the agent's job.

As to Promo. We've been through this movie before. No, Bills can't play every player $9 million. But the main reason the team has sucked for 13 years is that they've been horrendous talent evaluators and have been paying that $8 million - $ 9 million to role players who are soon departed. A common thread across successful franchises is they tend to keep good players and find a way to pay them. Bills had one decent draft in the last decade, and already lost one good player from that draft and may be on the verge of losing another. This team's strategy of filling in self imposed holes has been an abject failure, and we're possibly witnessing a continuation.

And then you wonder why some fans are tossing darts at the team.

I do think they were smart not to pay guys like Nate Clements and Donte Whitner. I would have liked to see Levitre return, his loss will hurt a rookie QB, but let's see how it plays out before judging whether they did the right thing there. There are others... but I agree that they have paid guys like Mario and Fitz when they didn't deserve the amount they got. Mario can redeem himself, but it still looks like a bad deal.
  2. QB - he'll be fine. Solid pick in the 4th.

RB - Gore in round 2 was a good pickup IMO but the hole at RB2 may kill your team.

WR - Obviously a strength but Jackson in round 3 may be your fatal mistake. I think you had to get a RB there. You ended up with plenty of WR depth.

The rest is fine; Gates is slowing down a lot but still better than most.

What were the first 6 picks? McCoy was gone at 7?

I can't recall exactly... I know Spiller was really high, like 3. McCoy was gone, Trent Richardson was the BPA at RB and he scares me as I live in OH and know all about his injuries with the Browns. Just didn't want to take him that high. Yeah, my RB situation is not good at all.

Actually I think it went AP, Foster, Spiller, Charles, Doug Martin, McCoy
  3. Regarding Ron Brooks, I heard he has made some plays at camp so far as the #2 CB, however, not as consistent as we would like in this space and that the CBs overall are looking pretty rough outside of Gilmore. Problem area unless someone really steps up. :( Enter Byrd, PLEASE to at least shore up that space.

Correction - McLovin is the #2 CB most of the time but Brooks has been in some at that spot. McLovin scares the sh** out of me.

  5. I had my draft last night and overall, I'm not too thrilled with how it turned out. It is a 12-team, standard league with 1 QB, 2RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, K, DST, and 5 reserves. I drafted 7th, which was a problem because by the time we got to my pick all the RBs who I felt were worthy of that spot were gone. I went with the top-rated WR instead in round 1. I think this screwed with my team from the get-go because the best RB available (in my opinion) at the time was Frank Gore. I did more research on him after the fact and the word is he is NOT a good fantasy pick this year. Sigh. Anyway - here is my team:

QB - Cam Newton - This is the QB I wanted and I got him in round 4. Good, right? Well, now having some buyer's remorse since I read this morning that he had a terrible week in camp. My jinx level is alive and well.

RB1 - Frank Gore - As I mentioned, I took him in round 2 because when I picked in round 1 all the RBs worthy of the #7 overall pick were gone. This was probably a mistake and I should have just taken the highest rated RB there. I was thinking Gore was a solid pick in round 2 as he is the starting RB on a very good team, so said team will likely be able to run the ball a lot and he'llget the majority of carries. Fantasy experts say though that both his carries and catches will be down as there is a slew of younger RBs behind him. Nice :(

RB2 - Shane Vereen - Got this one in a later round, can't remember exactly where. I know he isn't the starter in NE but my understanding is he is going to be only the field a lot and get a ton of touches, especially through the air. Plus, I can't resist a good potential jinx taking a NE guy.

WR1 - Calvin Johnson - no worries here, other than I feel I should have taken an RB in round 1 instead of a WR

WR2 - DeSean Jackson - I like this pick in round 3 - with all the guys out in Philly I think he will get the ball a ton

WR3 - Danny Amendola - I got him late (round 6 I think) and if thinks shape up like they want them too in NE he'll be the new Welker. Plus, potential jinx again :)

TE - Antonio Gates - SD has lost a starting WR and I think Rivers is going to go to Gates a lot with the lack of WRs.

K - Steven Gostkowski - #1 rated kicker, so no complaints

DST - Cincinnati - I like their defense a lot and they play in a division that typically isn't super high scoring to begin with

    Reserves-

RB Jaquizz Rogers - Seems like he could get some carries in ATL, as Stephen Jackson looks good but has injury potential. he was very late round obviously

RB LaMichael James - supposedly going to return kicks in SF

RB Shonn Greene - going to play on goal line situations in TN. Admittedly I didn't mean to draft him but had my draft on Auto-pick by mistake. It's oK though, I think this is decent late round pick

WR Brian Hartline - actually kind of a stud WR in Miami who no one knows about. Glad to get him late.

WR Malcolm Floyd - Going to start in SD because of the injury to Danarius Alexander.

Any thoughts? My biggest worry are my RBs and truthfully, my QB :(

  6. I love fantasy football so I will be happy to assist. The reason I wait on bye week kickers/d/qb/te is that the level of waiver replacement is closer to what you will have than waiver replacements for wr and especially rb. Your team will be fluid and changing week to week so no need to get caught up with bye week replacements during the draft.

OK - that makes sense! Thanks!
  7. Do not draft a back up D or K under any circumstances. Only take a backup TE or QB if your starter is injury prone ie RG3 or Gronk. I always draft 4-5 RB and 4-5 WR. Take two RB early.

Really? Ok... so, when the K or D is on bye week it is ok to just not play anyone there?

Also, is this because then you decide which WR and RB to play each week based upon which teams they are playing? Makes sense, if so.... sorry if I sound very novice at this.
  8. I haven't played FF in about 10 years but coming out of retirement this season. :) I have my draft tonight. I can take 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DST, 5 reserves. It is a pretty standard league (i.e. free). My question is, what should the 1 reserve be outside of the QB, DST, K and TE for their bye weeks? Should I go with another RB or another WR? Also, I saw someone mention to not draft a QB until around round 5.... is this a good strategy? I did a mock draft this morning and realized I could get Brady or Kaepernick that late if I wanted... not sure b/c I really want Newton.

  9. I'm eying Spiller too. I pick 4th in a .5 PPR league. . . . Why is your draft so far ahead of the start of the season?

I thought it was early too... not sure?

As a rule I don't like to have Bills on my fantasy football team. It just makes it a double kick in the balls when they have a terrible game. Having said that CJ is sorely testing this strategy this season. I think he is going to have a good year.

I am the same way... too much pain all at once!

If you pick outside the top 5-7 picks, you more than likely won't have to worry about it.

Not sure, as he isn't ranked in the top 10 on CBS's board. However, I have to question their rankings a bit. Probable shooting myself in the foot, but I am going off of my own board.
  10. Um, I am not sure what kind of draft it is (a free league on CBS Sports website)! I haven't played FF in over 10 years but decided to come out of retirement :) There are 12 teams in our league, I think we find out the order tomorrow. Anyway, our FF guru on the radio locally says Spiller is can't-miss and should be everyone's #1. Still afraid, as I would rather lose FF than affect his season. Yes, I am irrationally superstitious.

  11. EJ starts all preseason games and is starter going into season

EJ looks good, but throws several INTs in preseason

Alonso is compared at least 3 times to a young Brian Urlacher during the games by the announcers

    Woods becomes a starter

Stevie does not play at all in preseason

O-line makes us fear for the regular season and the safety/performance of EJ

Byrd is the Word and returns by the end of preseason

  12. Greeny knows about the Bills because he is a huge Jets fan, but he isn't on today. He really never says anything bad about them because he is always lamenting his own team being worse. I don't mind Golic overall but just seems he was completely unprepared with his Bills assessment and really anytime the subject of them comes up it is like he forgot they were in the league. BuffaloFood, not saying it wasn't funny, but still surprised it even made the show considering he isn't really that hurt (according to Marrone).

Just wait Yolo...just wait...by Week 6 they will know every player on our team as we capture first place in the AFC East...destroy the Pats and wreak havoc on the rest of the league....*cue sinister laugh as I rub my hands together*

    Now wouldn't that be nice...
  13. Haven't heard much on #2 CB position. Anyone got anything to add?

Was listening to WGR this morning online and not familiar with the guy they had on because I don't live there - Joe Buscaglia or something? Anyway, he expressed real concern about the CBs. He said outside of Gilmore it is looking realllly rough. McKelvin out there with the 1s but not looking good. He said Rob Brooks has made a few plays but not overly consistent. Surmised that they will need to blitz heavily to compensate for the DBs. Makes me think we need Byrd more than ever too.

Also - just in case anyone missed it, he said that Alex Carrington has looked awesome. Also that Jerry Hughes has looked good but tempered it with he won't start because he plays Mario's position and that all of his success has been against Cordy Glenn who struggles with certain things that Hughes does, and if up against a lineman with better footwork he may not be as good.
