mid-60s, rain, 40 mph winds. Even Kiko might have a bad hair day.But temps in the mid-60s!

The NFL front offices that employ actual scouting departments do not care about or consult the "draft experts" on ESPN, etc. on who they should draft for their specific system, scheme and organization. Thanks for the link. In the video portion of the article you provided, Cosell didn't mention Manuel at all; except indirectly by saying that Nassib was his favorite QB. He also said that none of the QBs in the 2013 draft were the same quality prospects as Tannehill. In the written portion of the article, he didn't mention Manuel at all either. The article's final sentence--the one you seem to be hanging your hat on--states that Mike Mayock had Manuel rated as one of his top-three QBs. Mike Mayock does not speak for Greg Cosell.
The article I quoted states the following:
1) From the text portion: "Cosell labeled the USC passer [barkley] a fourth-round talent"
2) From 0:35 of the video: "I wouldn't put him [Manuel] past Barkley at this point."
If Cosell considered Barkley a fourth round talent, and wasn't willing to give Manuel a higher rating than Barkley, then it's clear Cosell had Manuel rated a fourth round talent or lower.

I was comparing CB to Simon and White, not CB to Marrone, which was whose words he uploaded.Chris Brown copied the transcript of the Howard and Simon show and reported about CJ not likely being involved in the passing game as a WR. Impressive work for sure!

THAT is the disaster for Miami's GM?The Third Pick From The NFL Draft Is Barely Playing, And It's A Disaster For Miami's GM
No idea what this is doing in the Finance section of Yahoo, but whatever.
Interesting, considering the impact his former teammate is having in the same division...

It is more impressive than what I get from the guys on the radio! I am familiar with what his role is.Chris Brown is employed by the Bills. His "pulse" of the organization is the front office feeding information they want fed to the media. It's nothing groundbreaking nor impressive.
-
I think Marrone doesn't take those guys seriously, and I don't either when it comes to covering the Bills. They don't offer any insight into the Bills. The only I hear any is when they have Chris Brown on. As many say CB doesn't break stories and maybe that is true, but he definitely has the pulse of the organization and knows what is going on. And knows football. Howard and Jeremy seem much more comfortable talking about the Sabres. I love when they are "breaking down the game" and decide to use a hockey analogy to describe a play. Riveting.I think its important to take into account that Marrone was about 10 minutes late calling into his segment. The entire interview was awkward. I was stunned they didn't ask about the fourth down punt from the 37. Howard seemed totally thrown and at the end of the interview, even before Marrone had finished saying goodbye, said "We have Steve Ott on the line, anything exciting happen this week Steve?..." and started his conversation with Steve.
It seems Howard was pissed Marrone wasn't on time and lost his composure during the interview. As a 20+ year radio guy, I would have thought he could have handled the curveball of Marrone being late a bit better.
I diud catch the "Is this my show" from Marrone and they responded "It is called the Doug Marrone "segment". "I generally dislike WGR. I never listen, but checked out the vault for this. I think they generally push a little bit, but Marrone's response escalated to aggressive rather quickly. It was generally an awkward conversation overall, and a little aggressive on both sides. A little cringe worthy with the get excited about our troops bit (although I agree), and the whose show is this, mine or yours. Obvious power struggles

I was thinking the same thing... thought he looked good last year before he had that heart condition (I think). I really have a hard time reading your posts though because your avatar is distracting (yet perfect). Lol.has he even been given a shot to start? He won the WR 2 job last year, outright. Played better in preseason than Hogan, TJ, Goodwin. I really don't understand this coaching staff. I miss Chan.
-
I don't fault Marrone on this - he is 100% focused on the Jets at this point. Maybe if that was asked on Monday? I don't know - it doesn't matter whether he wants to answer about this or not, IMO. Or forgot who it was or forgot it happened. JMO.Why even talk about or ask a question about that play? A receiver ran the wrong route on your garbage time goal line series.... Who cares?
-
Unfortunately, he wasn't good enough once he got to the NFL.Completely disagree. Rogers was amazing 3 years at Tennessee before he got kicked out. If you are good in college for a year, you should be promised a spot on a NFL roster.
Fact: all guys who have good freshman years in college become good NFL players.
-
Because he wasn't good enough to make the team. Roster spots are earned on performance. At some point these guys are going to be expected to take the field now, as Hogan will need to on Sunday, not whenever they get around to wanting to learn the system and work hard. Maybe he has more natural physical talent. But he didn't show enough of it to make the team this year. That is what TC is for - evaluating which players they can depend on to make plays for the team. No one gets a pass becuase he might be better 2 or 3 years from now. They don't have a crystal ball to know when or if the light will ever go on. They gave him an opportunity and he didn't do anything with it. Not their fault. I don't know enough of Hogan to say why they prefer him, but they do.This thread has become mind numbing because everyone keeps distorting the issue. I have yet to read anyone on here that says that Da'Rick is going to be a star. The argument that I have read is that if all it costs you is Chris Hogan you should have kept him. A lot of people have said that he is dumb, lazy, etc... I still have not seen someone make the argument that Hogan is going to be the better player or in the team's long term plans. Not 1 person has said how much better Hogan is than David Nelson or any other street free agent.
Can someone make an argument that on a rebuilding team you were better off keeping Chris Hogan??? Does he fit into their long term plans?!? I sure hope not. NoSaint said if best when he said if they are both 3s why keep the guy whose ceiling is a 3 over the guy whose ceiling is a 9? That is what is frustrating to me and I am sure the rest of us in the Da'Rick camp. It really did not cost you ANYTHING to keep him around for a year and see if he developed.
-
Oh he burned one alright. So, guys, I missed the game last night. Did Da'Rick burn the Titans for a buck fifty and two TDs?
How many tackles did Shep have?
-
Yes, I hope he will learn this going fwd but I will say that I see veteran, SB winning coaches making the same in game calls that make you scratch your head. So not sure it is being a 1st year HC or what. Still frustrating.I agree 100%. I just wish Marrone had the "internal fortitude" to let the analytics department help decide 4th downs based on field position and distance to gain. It's long overdue. I am sick and tired of punting for field position. As Easterbrook says, 4th and 5 on the PIT 36 with 14:09 in the 4th quarter - GAME OVER.
-
Yep - it is very low risk to bring him in if I am Rex, he is just an extra guy who might be able to help, in the film room at least. If he has any good plays left in him, I am sure they will ALL take place on Sunday. Because it is the Bills. The dude was 2nd string in Houston. He's not burning anything (other than perhaps a joint, occasionally -- allegedly).
Reed is obviously a smart veteran at this point, so it's true he could bait a rookie like EJ into a mistake, but as far as how much Reed will help the Jets for the remainder of the season, I believe this is just Rex being Rex.
-
They are 3-7Who's accountable for the Bills' 3-6 record?
They are all accountable?Players and coaches? Is there a better answer?
-
I wouldn't read too much into Marrone's segments on WGR. He treats them very casually and is just being himself. I don't care how he talks or acts as long as they start moving in the right direction.
-
I know, right? What is this nosense? accountability? hahaha
-
It is not the Bills fault that Da'Rick isn't here. It is Da'Rick's fault. They gave him many opportunities to make the team. They wanted him to make the team. He couldn't do it. At some point, the accountability is on the player.
Cris Carter was cut from the Eagles because he was on drugs, not because he wasn't good enough. Da'Rick was cut because he wasn't good enough. If Da'Rick had JUST character issues, my guess is he would not have gone undrafted. Personnel guys usually say there are two reasons why a player will get cut after TC - they can't run or they can't (or won't) learn. Rodgers likely feel into that latter category. He was given all the way until the end of preseason to turn it around and he couldn't do it. Maybe he will be able to do it in Indy. I hope so, for his sake. Sometimes a guy's talent takes him places his character can't sustain though.

Fitz had a nice game. Defense for Tenn lost that one.well actually on the previous series he threw at least 1 maybe 2 for a decent distan ce that were dropped--when they were only down 3

If you find out, let us know? Ha - j/k. They haven't played much because we were healthy at WR until now. Easley is a tall, fast WR who has primarily played ST (he is a monster). We'll see what he can do at WR, many are rooting for him. He has the size we really need at that position. Hogan is a nice player (nickname is 7-11 because he is always open) who did well in camp but hasn't done much in reg season. Hoping for the best with both, EJ is going to need them to make some tough catches if we want to have a chance to win.Yes we do.
My concern is how well we will be able to run on you. It was so-so in the first meeting and really we took advantage of your banged up secondary, which is now healthy. Without that who knows how the game goes. I know Holmes won't be guarded by some fifth string CB this time around and he's not 100%. He hasn't played since September.
Can anyone tell me about your WR's after Graham and Goodwin. I know those two are speedsters. What about the rest? If Stevie can't go they'll have to play a big role I would think. What are their strengths?
-
My understanding is that the higher rounds are known entities and they don't need the scouts as much - for example, the player personnel directors, pro scouts, even GMs will go scout guys on gameday like Manziel, Mariotta, CJ Mosely, whatever. They want to see them in live game action but the "stats" on them so to speak are already available. The college scouts are there at the little schools in BFE sitting at practice watching guys like Fred Jackson for weeks, timing him, tracking his work ethic, attitude, etc. I think Robey was actually a function of Marrone's familiarity with him having played USC a couple times (Woods also)... that is one benefit of getting a coach from college, they are typically a wealth of knowledge about talent in the draft. We see the same with Pete Carroll and Jim Harbaugh.Ahhh.....I didn't realize that the assessments are done by different teams of guys(or there abouts). This now makes a lot more sense how we could have good success with later picks and horrible success with the early picks.
Thanks for that.

I just don't think he wanted to restructure his contract, or stay here as the backup since they were drafting a guy. It was a better situation for him to move on.He signed a 2 year $6.5 million contract with the Titans.
I doubt he makes less than that here to do the exact same job as a backup here. It's not as if the Titans view him as a replacement to Locker.
So again, how is it not a little weird that he turned us down to sign as a backup in Tennessee?

"@TCBILLS_Astro: Nickell Robey now rated 16th of 105 CBs in pass coverage by #ProFootballFocus; 22nd-rated overall" Way to Go @RDR_21 !!!

I have to respectfully disagree - no matter how it seems, I know guys in college scouting roles for NFL FOs and the amount of work that goes into determining the later round picks and UDFAs (this is where they really shine) is absolutely enormous. Bill Polian says it all the time that the later rounds and the days following the draft is where the scouts earn their money for the hundreds of days per year they spend on the road watching college practices, talking to coaches, etc. The higher rounds are much different - college scouts have some input but most of the research is being done at a higher level. It is anything BUT luck later on.I'm not so sure on that. From 2004-2008 we found 4 great late picks(or UDFAs) FJ, Peters, Stevie, K.Williams. Over that same span we only really had one player in the first 4 rounds who panned out for us......and that was McKelvin who has only really caught on in this his 6th season.
I'm not convinced that finding success from late drafted - UDFAs is anything more than luck.
-
Let's hope so - Goodwin in the building.jets have a great run D, so I think it will come down to EJ--can he make a couple key long throws?
Buffalo could very well field both the DROY and OROY this year
