  1. I will let you know in July when all of the Fantasy Football magazines are on the news stands!

True - will be interesting too to see how much of the offense is actually unveiled in the preseason as FF drafts take place right before reg season. But CJ prob won't play much. If I am Marrone I keep it under wraps as much as possible as long as they can still properly evaluate and get their rhythm going.
  2. Yes, I'm taking him 1st overall if I can. AP might be a safer pick but CJ could very well put up '00 Marshall Faulk or '06 LT numbers this season. Also this year is deeper than ever at QB so it makes a ton of sense to go RB in the 1st. There used to be a huge gap between Rodgers/Brady/Brees and everyone else but now we have RG3, Kaepernick, Luck, Newton, Matt Ryan and the Mannings all right there.

Good point on QB depth. I really like Kaepernick at QB. RGIII's injury issues scare me in the 1st but he would be a risk/reward guy. Newton is another one, probably will be on a bad team and need to put up a ton of points.

I'll be shocked if CJ winds up on any of my teams this year, because I expect him to be over-drafted. Like top 5 overall. And while you can certainly make a case that he deserves that ranking, there's too much uncertainty there (Fred might share time, we don't know how good the O will be, Marrone/Hackett used 3 backs at SU) to justify that high a pick for me.

In my main league, they laughed at me for drafting Spiller in the 4th round last year. Didn't keep laughing very long.

4th rd was a steal for Spiller last year, lucky. We have a local FF expert on the radio here in C-bus and every week Spiller was his #1 go-to guy, make sure you play him, etc. If he's there when I draft, will be tough to not take.
  3. 1) Listening to Buddy talk is like fingernails on a chalkboard, 2) Whaley looks like our next GM, 3) that viedo of Alonso looks promising but that dude needs to bulk up to play LB in the NFL. That said, he reminds me of Urlacher in his personality, the way he plays, and his build.

  4. No Wannstedt = Instant Improvement. The fact that we get the guy from The Jets, who not only was known for one of the NFL's best defenses but already knows our division is HUGE. I think the Offense will need some time to grow but has a lot of upside. I am realistically optimistic but we are much younger and faster than in year's past. I am happy that Fred and Stevie are still here to give the offense leadership and stability and am rooting hard for EJ. I am hoping for tons of CJ explosiveness. Would love so much to catch NE off guard week one at home and beat them. OMG, so excited.

  5. I loved everything about this. Thanks for posting, I hadn't seen it. Even if I wasn't a Bills fan, I would totally root for this kid. The receptionist giving him a big hug was awesome!! FWIW, loved seeing his Dad with him. A strong father figure is a big deal. This guy truly wants to be here, and is so positive. Never really saw that in Losman, R Johnson, T Edwards. I know Fitz wanted to be here too, but there's something different about this guy...

  6. We don't know how he will turn out, but I agree with you. I take exception to the "experts" who say that Manuel came up small in big games in college or that he made bad decisions. First of all, since when does winning big games in college translate to being a good NFL starter? See Tebow, Tim. Or Manning/Brady/Rogers on the other side. Manning couldn't beat Florida, Brady was irrelevant, Rogers never was on any great teams. It does not predict anything. Yet his record was outstanding and he did win 4 straight bowl games, so I don't get it. Plus, show me a QB or does not make some bad decisions. Hello, Peyton Freaking Manning threw a cross body INT in his umpteenth season to lose a playoff game. Especially in college - hello, they are NOT a finished product yet and are often with inferior teammates and guys who don't know how to really coach a QB. I think it is hilarious that one of the plays Luck is best remembered for in college was a horrible INT, but he is lauded for it because he made a nice tackle on the guy afterward.

  7. Agreed, teams like the Steelers and Pats would never do Hard Knocks. Fine. But IMO, it would help the Bills more than hurt. I don't think it is much of a negative distraction. And face it, these guys love being in the spotlight. Stevie would be in heaven. I like the idea. FAs don't want to go to Bflo because it is so irrelevant, but it wou;d be great exposure for picking up future FAs to see things like the fans at St John Fisher, how the new staff interacts, and don't forget the weather would be fantastic that time of year. Bflo would shine on nataional TV. Would love to see Crazy Kiko, as well as how smart and charismatic EJ would come across. I love the show and would be thrilled if the Bills were on it. Plus, they haven't made the playoffs in 13 years. They have never neem on Hard Knocks. Tell me why we don't want to try something different?

  8. This is one advantage to having a coach who is fresh from college. He knows these guys intimately. But not only did Bflo pass on Nassib, so did every.other.team. who needed a QB. And the team who did select him would like him to practice holding a clipboard. So he absolutely made the right call, and Nix, for all of his "flaws" as a GM has been known as a top evaluator of college talent. So yes, he has the final say on the draft. But Whaley and the coaches have a ton to do with these personnel moves we are seeing, i.e. Sheppard. The team has dealt us crazy disappointment for a really long time. I am really excited though for the New Bills.

  9. for awhile. Geno might be a talented QB, but his attitude sucks and in NY it is just going to get worse. He has very few weapons and Santonio's crap will bring him down even more. He acted like having to wait until the 2nd round to get drafted was akin to some kind of real hardship one has to overcome in life. He has no idea what he is in for, esp from those fans and media. Good luck Geno.

  10. New system, the QBs are all equal. Not sure we don't get EJ for game one. Might as well. The O Line is as solid as it will be for the next few years, so let the kid work behind it before it falls apart in free agency, starting with the assumed departure of Eric Wood next year.

I agree with you that if EJ is the QB of the future, go ahead and let him play right away if he is even close to ready. It's not like we are "super close" and it is a huge deal like it was in SF last year and they went with Kap anyway.

  11. I think the only effective way to grade a draft is 2 or 3 years later. Before a guy has even played a single down in the NFL, it's a pure guesswork to predict how he'll perform.

Remember how the draft experts thought Ryan Leaf, Jamarcus Russel, and Andre Ware were awesome first round picks?

I agree, these draft gardes are meaningless and based only on everyone's evaluation of the players in college & combine, and the team's perceived needs. They often don't dive enough into what fits with what the teams want to do and schemes they will run. I do question the Bills not addressing the OL in the draft and seemingly all of the WRs and DBs when they have bigger needs IMO. At least CJ and Freddie must feel good about the lack of RBs! AJ Williams is likely nervous... I think he could get cut.

  12. I think all 3 will compete in camp... at this point Kolb is ahead of the others in experience and I think has a good chance to start the season at #1. But, I feel like he'll get hurt (not confident in our OL at all) and EJ will come in and start the rest of the way with Jackson as his back-up. I do agree that Kolb doesn't necessarily fit Marrone's offense, but he has Naasib in college and Kolb seems to be a bit like him so there is versatility there.

  13. McShay blasted the pick of EJ at 16, saying he talked to NFL guys he trusts at "6 or 7 teams" who didn't have him higher than 2nd or 3rd round and some as low as 5th or 6th rd (joke). Considering there are 32 teams in the NFL, this is not a good enough sample size to say EJ would not have gotten picked before the Bills could take him in the 2nd. Word is the Eagles wanted him and loking at Chip's offense he was likely drooling over him. GM of the Eagles even said on Mike and Mike today that while Barkely doesn't necessarily fit their offense, he was too much of a value to pass in the 4th. Barkley wasn't their guy but their guy was gone. McShay has blown it on several QBs he has analyzed in previous years. He did laud them for their Dustin Hopkins pick, saying it was ther best late round pick of the draft. See ya Lindell. FWIW, I would trust Polian well over McShay when it comes to drafting and building a team and he said 16 was about where he saw a QB going in this draft and you take the guy who best fits what you want to do and who you think has the talent, brains and heart to win and lead your team. In this draft, EJ is that over all the others. Geno's attitude is a total turnoff - he is Cam with less talent. I think EJ is the physical of Cam, brains of RG3, work ethic of Russell Wilson.
