  1. Yeah, I knew about him, but I thought he was older.  Is there a younger one than Eli coming up who's still playing?

    No more Manning offspring...

In April of 1971 Manning was drafted by the New Orleans Saints as the second pick in the draft (Manning 3). He played with the Saints for eleven years. He endured many coaching and personnel changes during his long stay in New Orleans (Manning 1). In 1974, Archie and Olivia had their first son Cooper Manning. Then came Peyton Manning (1976) and last came Eli Manning (1981). In 1978 Manning was named NFL Most Valuable Player and he was a pro bowler for two seasons. After being traded to the Houston Oilers and playing there for one year and finishing his career with the Minnesota Vikings after Manning--first Saints Hall of Famerbeing forced to retire, because of a thyroid disease in 1985 (Manning 4).

Manning to have further tests on injured elbow; Giants look at Couch

By DAVID PORTER, Associated Press Writer

    August 21, 2005

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning will have further tests on the right elbow he injured Saturday night in a 27-21 victory over Carolina.

Manning woke up Sunday with soreness in the elbow. The second-year quarterback had an MRI and is scheduled to be examined by team orthopedist Dr. Russell Warren on Monday.

  3. What the heck is going on with Sam Aiken?  Everyone was raving about his off-season but he is completely off the radar screen at this point.  Do you think he is in danger of getting cut?

    413692[/snapback]

I don't think Aiken is going anywhere. He is either #3 or #4 on the depth chart with Roscoe's injury. I don't think you can judge his future on the team based on one pre-season game and lack of cathes in the game.

  4. As they pointed out in the broadcast yeaterday, Reed is a very good blocker and he had a few nice grabs yesterday. Yes he dropped a pass in the endzone on the flea flicker, but I think the Bills give him a shot especially in light of the Parrish injury. Wilson & Haddad aren't going to be gobbled up by other teams. If Reed struggles to start the season(as he has done in the past), cut him loose and bring back Wilson, Haddad or Fast Freddie(whomever gets cut).

  5. A-friggin-men.

I don't understand some of the negativity here.  Oh JP had happy feet.  JP made rookie mistakes.  JP didn't throw long.  JP didn't throw for 600 yards.  JP didn't blah blah blah.

Good christ people have you watched what we've had at quarterback for the last eight years? Not just the Bledsoe years but the Collins-AVP and Flutie-RJ years.  Anyone who can't see that this is a HUGE upgrade with all kinds of upside, well, they're just never going to be happy no matter what.  These are probably the same people who wanted Reich to start over Kelly.

This kid is well-coached, accurate, strong-armed, knows how to throw balls that won't be picked if they're not caught by our guys, and can make things happen with his arm AND his feet. Plus he's got a great drive to improve and he doesn't act like he has all the answers. I think we are in for a lot of fun these next few years, folks...

I was all in favor of the switch from DB to JP. I don't know if you are referring to any part of my post earlier in this thread, but I was just trying to give a fair critique of JP's play for those who didn't get to see the game. I don't see anything wrong with saying "this is what he did good and this is what he needs to work on". My post from earlier...

JP's rushing TD was GREAT! His scrambling ability in the pocket is going to drastically reduce the number of sacks. On the other hand, he looked brutal on the safety that was negated by a penalty and except for the attempted flea flicker to Reed, did not attempt a pass of more than 10-15 yards or so. Also in the first half he took a helmet to helmet hit on one of his scrambles as he was near the sideline.

This is going to be an exciting season and I look forward to steady improvement throughout the season for JP!

  7. geez, you really have it in for me today, don't you?  did the error in yard line really change the gist of my post?

    didn't think so.  :)

I was off base on the "ignorant media" thread. In this case, I wasn't challenging your opinion, just correcting the place where the ball was after the NC play. As long as you are asking though...A nineteen yard difference is a HUGE difference when there is only 1:18 left to play.

PS I don't have it in for you. You must just be in the wrong place at the wrong time!

  8. Well, it is the Chargers. With head chump Alex Spanos in the saddle, expect them to shoot themselves in the foot.  Even so, the Chargers had to have learned a few things from their public relations disasters of the last few years.  Having Gates sit will not sit well with the Charger faithful.  They will compromise to the mild satisfaction of both sides.  Having Gates on the field makes Tomlinson and Brees more lethal.

Well, speaking of the Chargers, they do excel in other ways...

In addition they have the Rivers v. Brees mess coming up around the corner.
