1. The show is all about language and I don't mean just the cursing.  They actually speak very formally as compared to how we speak.  They speak like aristocrats for half a sentence and then like drunken sailors for the last half.  Did you notice how Bullock and the widow address each other as Mr. and Mrs. so-and-so even though they are doing the nasty so much Al is complaining that Bullock is not doing his job as Sheriff?  The language more than anything draws you into the show.  They often speak in long, complex sentences with unecessary flourishes and tangents that force you to listen closely.  Just when you have picked up the tune they drop in a string of combinational cursing that is foreign yet immediately recognizable that knocks you back on your heels.

Absolutely. This is what I try to tell my wife, but she can't seem to get past all the cursing. The writers for this show should be winning awards, it's the best show on TV.

  2. It wasn't supposed to be about Bush.  Just the song...and let's not act like i punched "AD"s dog...i just posted about a lyric.

Needless to say, i probably won't start another topic anytime soon.

    264713

I know it wasn't supposed to be about Bush. However, this is usually all it takes....

the song is about George W's crazy policies.

No big deal, just giving my take. I hope you do post again.

  3. i don't think it belongs in ppp - it is a post about song lyrics. It is an OT post that fits right in with discusions of television shows, tooth decay, and some of our other recent OT posts.

Because he corrects the sig. of one of the most prolific PPP posters that does not mean the post should be cast to the depths of TSW hell.

Normally I would agree, it just seems that any time our president is mentioned in a post things usually deteriorate quite quickly into a political flame war. So far this one has proved me wrong though.

  4. ^^^So you dont think if they win the MAC tourney their gonna make it? Or their out if they only make to the finals? I dont know, either way i think your wrong.

    261645

They are in if they win the MAC tourney, it's an automatic bid. Anything short of that would be hoping for an at large which I agree is highly unlikely.

  5. KRAMER: Commando 8 has arrived!

JERRY: Take it to the window.

KRAMER: 12.000 BTU's of raw cooling power!

(Kramer places the air conditioner in the window)

    KRAMER: Installed!

GEORGE: That's it? You don't have to screw it in or anything?

KRAMER: No, just plug it in and the Commando 8 does the rest.

  6. I like Herm Edwards' quote:

"Bledsoe did a good job for them, but playing Buffalo won't be any easier. They're going with the young guy because he's a talented player and he can help them win ball games. They did what was right for their team."

Basically echoes my take on it all. Bledsoe was serviceable but wasn't going to get us any further (playoffs), therefore go with the young gun.

  7. There's no way in hell they will get a #10 seed.  That is a good thing.  And on top of that, hell will freeze over before they get a higher than #10 seed.  And this is good.

    251472

They could get a 10 if they win out. I agree that a 12 would be the best way to go in, but here is the history of MAC teams in the tourney through 2001, a couple of 10 and 11 seeds in there in the recent past.

+Regional championship game; *Regional consolation game

  8. Which makes me feel that if they were to play a #1 seed, the game would be over by halftime.

    250000

The MAC is a mid-major conference so they wouldn't be playing a #1 seed if they got in, even as an at-large (which I agree is unlikely). If they won out and won their conference tourney they would have what 23 wins? That's easily good enough for a 10-12 seed.

  9. Sorry you're going through this. I can only say I'm glad I only have a son right now.

    249769

I thought the same thing as I read this. However, having a son will bring it's own set of problems, namely preventing him from being on the receiving end of this scenario at 11 or 12 years old. This new dad thing is awesome, but reading the accounts from some of the more experienced parents here sure can be scary.

  10. You get congrats for even getting in there,  what was your line...??? :w00t:

    248975

It wasn't even my idea. THEY wanted to go, even after I fully explained to them what type of place it was. Having a front row bar seat for hot chicks doing tequila shots out of each others navels would under normal circumstances be a very good thing, but not when you are sitting between your wife and mother.

  11. My favorite ad campaign is from Stone brewery for it's Arrogant Bastard Ale:

"This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory — maybe something with a multi-million dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it’s made in a little brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless fizzy yellow beer will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multi-million dollar ad campaigns make a beer taste better. Perhaps you’re mouthing your words as you read this.”

  12. Not since watching "Bull Durham."

    :w00t: You mean this?

Crash Davis: It's time to work on your interviews.

Ebby Calvin LaLoosh: My interviews? What do I gotta do?

Crash Davis: You're gonna have to learn your clichés. You're gonna have to study them, you're gonna have to know them. They're your friends. Write this down: "We gotta play it one day at a time."

Ebby Calvin LaLoosh: Got to play... it's pretty boring.

Crash Davis: 'Course it's boring, that's the point. Write it down
