I assume at this point that JJ and Bell stick around to start on the wings so we end up with a lineup of:

PG: ???, maybe Erik Reynolds but not sure

    SG: JJ Starling

    SF: Chris Bell

    PF: Donnie Freeman

    C : Eddie Lampkin

I fear the paint defense will be atrocious again as JJ and Bell haven't really shown the effort to defend on the perimeter and Lampkin almost literally cannot jump. Gotta hope Red gets those guys to buy in on defense to minimize Lampkin's flaws defensively.

Offensively, we could be good. A little nervous about the ball-handling/shot creation but if Reynolds ends up being the guy, he gives us a lethal shooter on the move. Bell is a great stand still shooter. JJ isn't particularly great at anything but shot it pretty well the second half of the year and has shown some flashes of creating off the dribble. Lampkin is a guy you can run the offense through in spurts; his size is tough to deal with even if he isn't super skilled and he's a creative passer (albeit very careless with the ball like Copeland was).

Not entirely sure what to make of Donnie offensively yet. He didn't shoot the ball well in high school, but he's supposedly been shooting it very well at the McDonald's practices/scrimmages. He's a good athlete and is fairly comfortable with the ball in his hands, though I wouldn't really expect him to break people down off the dribble.

At any rate, if Lampkin ends up being the guy, then it definitely feels like we're hoping to score enough points to make up for our defense. Lampkin does not have the skillset I would personally prioritize in a center, particularly with the likely roster we'll have next season. But I don't know what other options are really feasible for us so maybe this is the best we can do. I'd prefer someone that can protect the rim and elevate around the rim offensively but the fact that we can just post Lampkin up would probably provide some value.

i think it is more important to get a 5 with some offensive talent. I think if Lampkin can just eat space, i will take that!

    For sure they were inconsistent...

They have been pretty inconsistent for years but even the last few times they have gotten in as low seeds they made the sweet 16 2-3

And they have really good guard play

Sort of interesting though how the tournament has changed. It used to be a guard’s tournament. But I would argue that having depth and great play at the 4 and 5 is now almost equally important, especially in this day and age of grad transfers, etc.

Think it’s a pretty safe bet he’ll have plenty of suitors. Sounds like we’re targeting Eddie Lampkin from Colorado.

I have to think Brown might be looking at UVA. He was recruited a little there, but now that he has blossomed, seems like he would be a great fit.

Maliq Brown in the portal :( Guess my source was right…just took awhile.

So probably the two most exciting guys from our team last year are gone. Just brutal. Wonder what his transfer options look like. I suspect he has many options.

Id be very surprised if anyone but UConn wins.

I know there’s always the possibility of upsets but Dan Hurley probably has it still fresh in his mind his brother’s Duke team beating UNLV back in 1991.  I think that was one of the biggest upsets then for it’s time?   Anyway Dan just strikes me as that kinda guy.

    UConn ain’t letting up.

I was thinking of that same UNLV team the other day.

UConn winning it all is not a given. I actually think Purdue or NC State could match up well with them, if either of them make it.

Caitlin Clark vs Angel Reese is must see tv Monday night. Respectfully (and credit to each for own reason) that’s the first time I ever said that for a women’s college basketball game

I wish they set them up in different brackets. Would have been neat to see them rematch in the final 4, at least.

it is crazy though— due solely to Clark, I have actually watched a little more women’s bball here down the stretch.

I feel the same way about this years QB class. To me it looks iffy. Outside of Williams and possibly Maye, the rest don’t seem like first round picks.

But I’m usually wrong predicting talent so take it with a grain of salt. Lol

I leave it up to the people on this board though who have better track records than me. 👍🏻

I have been totally confused by the QB class and all the draft predictions.

Caleb Williams feels like a total bust, yet he is the consensus 1.

Penix looks like a total stud, and then you hear he may not even go until the 2nd or 3rd round.

I have watched McCarthy a ton, and I have no idea how he will turn out as a pro.

He has some talent but I think he has been slightly overhyped by some in the process. He is very quick, but for someone with so much speed he isn't open as often as he should be and the reason is he is not a good route runner - often imprecise and gives up leverage willingly. I think some of that is coachable, and there has been some improvement in his hands but he is early 3rd round in terms of grade for me. He is in a little cluster with Ricky Pearsall and Javon Baker for me in my kind of 4th tier of receivers (would be a 3rd tier in most drafts) and I think I like him the least of those 3.

I follow Michigan football. This is spot on re Wilson.

I have been surprised by the hype, but maybe that’s what happens when you win the championship.

I think his development has just been hindered

He had like 10 high major scholarships including North Carolina and Florida and Virginia and Indiana and NC st

I certainly don't think he's a maac level guy which are like two star players

Maybe he can be more of a catch and shoot guy at that high of a D-1 level? But, otherwise, he doesn’t strike me as a guy with enough athleticism to create his own shot, or do anything on either side of the floor that makes me think he can be a contributor on a team like UNC or Virginia, etc.

The one thing to me that really sets Syracuse apart like North Carolina and such

Is how in-house they are.. I love the Syracuse family

And how coaches become players and are always a part of the family

I really hope red doesn't start bringing in non Orangemen

Even if that's a selfish thing... As to Peter Carey

I think the injuries did hurt him like you said but he definitely has some talent.. I think sienna would be perfect for him

Given how many scholarships we had the year we took him, I'm totally fine with taking a flier on a late bloomer with his height and athleticism but between injuries and simply lack of development, it was probably time to move on. I wonder if he'd consider following Gerry to Siena or if he'd prefer to try to catch on at a bigger program again.

Really curious to see what they end up doing with that assistant vacancy. I haven't really heard anything concrete but seems like the prevailing theory at the moment is that they'll look to bring in someone outside the Syracuse family. Someone else however mentioned Demetris Nichols as a possibility too. Guess we shall see.

Justin Taylor would be a great fit at Sienna too! He is more of a MAAC-type player.

This is a positive, not a negative. I never understood this mindset. If OBJ is their 3rd best WR I hesitate to even call that a good problem to have because it isn't a problem. Loading up on offensive talent has been by far the most common way teams have made championship runs in recent years, so I'm never going to criticize a team that already has a lot of offensive talent for adding more talent on top.

Not that this move makes me worried about the Dolphins. They have holes all over the defense. And they are still stuck with Tua. At this point I'm just wondering if they're actually going to commit to him long term... Fingers crossed that they do.

I hear you. I guess it’s a matter of whether you can afford it. Seems like a poor allocation of cap space for a #3 WR, who will be mostly a decoy and maybe catch like 20 passes. They have enough other toys in that offense that can play that same role.

    Agree on Tua!

He may end up being the Covid QB like Jake Fromm was in 2020.  Pay him his guaranteed money & keep him away from the rest of the team "just in case". 😄

How did they mismanage him other than putting him out on the field where he could STB?  I've heard this before with guys like EJ Manuel & JP Losman too many times.  The 3 have one thing in common, not mismanaged, just 1st round busts.

They hired an OC with no prior experience, who turned out to be awful. They kept yanking him in and out of the lineup due to poor play.

They then bring in an even worse OC in Hackett, and they end up yanking him in and out of the lineup again, going so far as to demote him to 3rd string and say he will Never play again, to then putting him back in the starting lineup (while leaking false stories about him not wanting to play anymore).

now when they can do him a solid and just release him or trade him away for a low pick, they are playing hardball?

The developmental process for Wilson was just scattershot and they surrounded him with bad coaches, totally undermined his confidence, and now are just treating him poorly

who treats their no. 2 overall pick like that, especially after only like 2 1/2 years? He might be terrible, but they really put him behind the 8 ball the entire time he was there.

I say this going against every fiber of my being, but I feel bad for the kid. He has tools. Let him get another shot at having a viable career.

I agree. The way they have mismanaged him has caused me to root for him.

I would like to see him go to some team with a QB whisperer as a head coach, and see if he can reclaim his career.

Zack Rosenblatt on X: "Woody Johnson says the #Jets are not going to just release Zach Wilson. Said they view him as a “valuable asset.” Also said that he thinks a change of scenery would be good for him." / X (twitter.com)

I doubt any team trades for him so it looks like he will remain a Jet.

At this point, they are just torturing Zach Wilson. This guy has been brutally mismanaged.

Interesting. If he accepts, that would be an interesting move by the Phins. He was OK for Baltimore and would give Tua that extra "out" target that Odel is so good at. Nothing crazyu to see here but found it interesting as the Phins are trying this off season.

bizarre move by both sides. Miami will have to overpay. And there is only 1 ball to go around. hill, waddle, Achane, and Mostert are All higher priority targets.

Yeah I mean I used to watch a ton of college basketball and be really plugged in

Now I'm basically plugged in with Syracuse and the ACC.. and I watch some Big 12 basketball

I also wonder if this has something to do with conference realignment? It was around that time when I stopped watching as much non-Syracuse bball.
