  1. Listening to McDermott’s press conference, I am reminded of this passage from Moby Dick: “Ahab is forever Ahab, man. This whole act's immutably decreed. 'Twas rehearsed by thee and me a billion years before this ocean rolled. Fool! I am the Fates' lieutenant; I act under orders.” We all know what is coming next year, the Bills will either crash and burn in the season or early in the playoffs and McDermott will come back and say we are close. Nothing changes if nothing is changed.
  2. I have a number of truly bad ideas that will go no place, here are just a few: First, during all the TV timeouts can they put on the Red Zone Channel on the Scoreboard. Second, can they replace those really obnoxious ads painted behind the wheelchair areas in each end zone with video boards showing down and distance and a rolling display of out-of-town scores. Jacksonville is doing something like that with its new score boards. Heck even video boards showing ads would be an improvement. Third, is there a way the team can do a sound or video alert system in the parking lots letting fans know the gates are open, there is 45 minutes to kickoff, 30 minutes to kickoff, 15 minutes to kickoff. Many people like me can’t keep track of time when we are hanging out in the parking lots. Fourth, do the Bills have plans for at-game app for the iphone and the like. Fifth, can they bury those power and telephone lines that run right in front of the stadium? It looks awful and it really obstructs the flow of fans to and from the game. Lastly, (and this is my daughter’s) spend a few thousand dollars on some better landscaping for the parking lot area. It looks like a parking lot for some old factory and not a public building. The area round there is nice which makes the ugly parking lot standout even more.
  3. Tim, Just curious Did you see RW this weekend, if so how is he doing? Now that the draft is done, what’s the plan with the offensive line? Who is going to be the third starting linebacker?
  4. Thanks for the update. I must say, Russ takes lame to a whole new level.
  5. Is this really what he is saying or is it a joke?
  6. A great post. It’s tough being a Bills fan. They find ever-more innovative ways to disappoint and break a fan’s heart. As a life-long Bills fan, I know a bad football team when I see it, and the current team may well be the worst team in Bills’ history, and that is saying a lot. But at least Ralph got in the Hall of Fame.
  7. I don’t normally post, but your great post hit home with me and I just had to say something. A few years ago I got to know completely by accident a member of Wilson’s extended family. No I don’t claim to have any insight into the Bills or anything like that. This person did have great stories about OJ, Chuck Knox and the like. What I found amazing is that what I thought was the product of Wilson getting old and perhaps a little senile was not the case at all. Wilson has always been like this and not just with regard to the Bills. Wilson can be unbelievably cheap and mean to people he has known and who have loved him for years. The thing is that Wilson does not even know what he is doing is so harmful; he just does not understand what he is doing is so bad. According to my friend this has happened over and over again in Wilson’s life and nothing you can do or say will make him change.
  8. I am sure I missing something, because from all outward appearances it seems the front office is counting on drafting a number 2 receiver and a pass catching tight end and having both of them beat the odds by being effective right from the opening game. Relying on one rookie seems risky, depending on two seems unrealistic. How can hope to make the playoffs, if that is the plan. I fully expect better play calling, improved QB play and a more effective ML, but all that won't amount to much if defenses only have to put 8 in the box and double team Lee to close down the offense. We were awful offensively last year not only because of bad play calling but also because we did not have enough good players. That has not changed.
  9. 10. Almost 9. If we only could run and stop the run 8. The officials screwed us 7. If not for. . . 6. In hindsight 5. But for . . . 4. The effort was there 3. We just need to keep working hard 2. We played a good team 1. We will get them next week. Honorable mentions: “It was just a lack of execution,” “We are young,” "We are almost there" “if we could only eliminate the mistakes,” “ We got a good group of guys,” “We came out strong, but were not able to keep it up,” “ we got to learn to play four quarters,” “They played their hearts out,” “some time its just not meant to be,” "We’ll get better” “It was just one game,” “At least we played good in the first half,” "Even though we lost, we are a much better team than last year"
  10. Cardinals vice president of football operations Rod Gravessaid it is likely the team will match the five-year, $17.6 million offer sheet Wells — a restricted free agent — received from Buffalo Friday. “I expect a decision to come sooner rather than draw it out,” Graves said. “But unless there is something bizarre in the contract (language), we’ll expect to have him back.” http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/index.php?sty=61429

  12. WOW! You have got to be kidding. Jauron’s first staff makes Gregg Williams’ staff seem like Hall of Famers. If he puts the same type of staff together in Buffalo, be afraid -- be very afraid.
  13. So let me get this straight, Jauron is a great coach he just has not win many games. If you look at Jauron’s five year record in Chicago and compare it to the five year won-loss record of the prior Bills administration they are remarkably close. Having spent much of the Jauron tenure in Chicago, I have to agree with Bill Swerski. Unless he has gone through some extraordinary transformation, he will be the same thing in Buffalo; a nice guy with an Ivy education who shouldn’t be a NFL head coach. Look I want Jauron to do great and the Bills to win the Super Bowl, but I can’t foresee that happening. If the past five years have taught the Bills fans anything it is denial and delusion are no way to run a football team. It’s unfortunate that Wilson and Levy have yet to learn that lesson.
  14. If Jauron hiring turns out to be true, it just goes to show that football is like every other business; it’s not what you have done or what you can do, but who you know that will get you the job. During the time Jauron was coach of the Bears, I spent quite a bit of time in Chicago and let me say this, Jauron was thought of by most Bears fans the same way Bills fans think of Greg Williams. A friend from Chi-town emailed me and asked what were the Bills thinking hiring Jauron? I think someone on the board offered the most telling insight when he wrote that Jauron will not “so-bad.” That was indeed damning praise. For better or worse, a team takes on the persona of its head coach. Nothing I have seen or heard so far indicates that the Bills under Jauron will be feared or admired. I hope I am dead wrong on Jauron, but at least for now the hiring does not inspire great optimism.

  18. I don't know if the documents are true or not, but this whole thread makes an old man like me laugh. At about the time these documents were supposedly created, I was using an IBM typewriter. We had “balls” back then. It was sort of a geek art form to use different balls to make different printer marks such as the “th” and the like. We all had our collection of balls and everybody played with them. I guess its true everyone over 40 is dead.
