  1. Except for the fact that every other part of your comparison is completely foolish. Last year, despite throwing 25 INTs, Eli still lead his team to 10 wins in a much more competitive NFC East, threw for over 4,000 yards, STILL had more TDs to INTs (31 -- a number Fitz has NEVER hit in his life), threw for near 63% completion (for the past 4 years he's been over 60% something Fitz has only done once), he also had a higher average and less sacks.

But you're right. It's the same thing as what Fitz did.

Give me a break. You are INSANE.

No need to get hysterical and call me silly, foolish and insane. Think I only made one comparison in both posts. The fact each had the INT lead in the last two seasons. Nothing else...you seem to be taking it to much greater lengths than what I actually had in my posts. I did not claim Fitz is elite or nearly as good or proven as Eli. Fitz still has a lot to prove next season, as far as I am concerned. Especially when he has a real complement of offensive weapons next season (crossing my fingers that between fewer injuries and some good front office moves that will happen).

The other point I made, which was my primary point was questioning your statement about Eli being elite and how that can't be questioned. Many people question Eli being elite...especially last year when NY was ready to run him out of town. He was up and down the last few season and hardly considered elite. Really good and maybe great at times , but not elite.

With that being said, he had a great run in the playoffs again this year and is now in elite company with 2 SB wins. BUT, both SB wins were team wins and not just Eli.

  2. Okay, so you haven't been paying attention. Thanks for supporting the argument.

Do not compare Fitz to Manning. It makes you look silly.

I really don't care about whatever argument you are trying to prove or disprove. I was just pointing out that your quote was silly...you didn't question Eli as an elite QB after he was tops in the league in INTs and overall performance last season? I sure did. What exact excuses do you apply and accept for his performance last year or is he just elite some years?

Oh, and I think the only comparison I made between Manning and Fitz is how Manning was tops in the league last year and Fitz was this year. That is not a silly comparison given that it is a factual stat they share.

  3. Anyone who thinks Eli isn't an elite QB hasn't been paying attention to the NFL. The dude is the absolute best right now in the league in the 4th Quarter (and an argument can be made he's always been clutch in the 4th quarter, way more than his brother). Eli has 2 rings and the chance to get a few more before he retires. He's going to be a first ballot hall of famer when he's done.

If you had put Fitz on the Giants and Eli on the Bills at the start of this past season, the Bills don't win the Super Bowl. But they make the playoffs. Fitz on the Giants doesn't win the Super Bowl.

Sorry. You're a fool if you think Fitz and Eli can be compared.

OK, so please explain last year when Elie led the league in INTs at a similar clip to Fitz this year. Does your quote "Anyone who thinks Eli isn't an elite QB hasn't been paying attention to the NFL" still apply? - or do you just pick and choose when to apply it?

  4. I was just watching NFL network live coverage of the Wednesday press conference. Brady was talking about how his parents were very supportive and how they traveled to his games in college and then when he became a starter in the pros. He then said "my (dad) even traveled to Buffalo. I don't know if you guys have ever been to Buffalo, but the hotels in Buffalo are not the nicest places in the world."

    Anyone else hear this?

  5. During Buddy Nix's two years as GM he has brought in an offensive minded head coach, added guys to the scout team, converted to the 34 defense and drafted heavily on that side of the ball, as well. The plan was sound, but the execution part of it all is where he failed miserably. Let's take a look at each decision and how he failed.

    First up, Chan Gailey

A great offensive mind, no doubt, but where Nix went wrong was making CG a head coach. This guy should have been our offensive coordinator, if anything. Nobody was beating on Chan's door for any type of job, much less the highly coveted head coaching job. He should have looked for someone else for that position and simply suggested to said head coach to hire Gailey to run the offense. Wrong move, for sure. What this team needed was a head coach with clout. A man that has taken a team from the ashes before and led them to prominence or at least the playoffs. A head coach that would actually take the city he plays in, into account when building his team and strategy on both offense and defense. A coach that has enough pull and know how to build a great coaching staff. Chan built an offense more suitable for a domed team or a good weather city. Jauron (not chosen by Nix) built our defense the same way, as if we were playing ball in Florida. Chan's choice for defensive coordinator was a horrible decision, as well. George Edwards was fired by the Dolphins as a linebacker's coach, why did CG think this guy deserved a promotion? A spread offense without a QB with a cannon for an arm in Buffalo doesn't make sense. When was the last time the Bills ran an out pattern 15+ yards down the field?

I would have gone with Marty ball. He would have been a perfect fit for head coach of the Bills. An old fashioned, hard-nosed coach that would have built this team to play tough. Line up in an I-Formation and run the ball down our opponents' throat. That's how this team's offense should have been built.

The 34 Defense and personnel decisions

The 34 defense is a perfect fit for a city like Buffalo, but the execution of putting together that defense was flawed. As I stated previously, George Edwards was the wrong choice. We needed a guy with experience to transform our defense from the Tampa Two to the 3-4, not a first-timer at the NFL level.

The mistakes didn't stop there. In year one, BN's draft selections to turn our defense into a 34 were way off, he drafted Troup, Carrington, Batten, and Moats. Troup is an undersized NT, we already had one of those on our roster, I would have went with the massive Mount Cody, instead of the small school product. Carrington has the look of a 34 defensive end, but these guys have him playing outside. Moats is too small. And Batten has proven to be a failure or wasn't given enough time to become a good OLB. It's starting to look like all these picks were busts.

In year two, Nix continued to draft heavily on defense. He took Dareus, Williams, Sheppard, Searcy, Chris White, Rogers and Jasper.

Dareus is a beast and will only get better, but we had to use our 3rd overall pick to correct the mistake we made with Troup, instead of using it on something else. Sheppard may or may not turn out to be a great player, that has yet to be determined, but you don't have to take an inside linebacker that early (in the3rd round), when you should be selecting OLBers, in that round, instead. Justin Houston would have been a great selection. Speaking of OLBers, what about Brooks Reed in round two instead of Aaron Williams? Everyone knows that in order for your 34 defense to be effective, the strength of your "D" needs to be in the linebacker corps. Trusting Merriman to stay healthy was a huge gamble on BN's part that has backfired on the Bills. Keeping Kelsay at OLB was the wrong move, too, and now these idiots actually think Carrington and Johnson are OLBers?? Ha ha ha, I won't even put them there in Madden!! Searcy looks like a keeper so far. White I never liked. Rogers will probably be better than Williams and Jasper has been moved to offense.

As you can see, BN has done plenty to get this team where he wants it to be. He used 11 picks in the last two drafts to fix our defense to no avail. Is it the players he picked that are no good or are the coaches inept and unable to properly groom those kids into great football players? Or both? Why can't we stop the run? Why can't we rush the passer? Why have we regressed in pass d?

Where does the blame lie? With the owner? The front office? The coaches? The players? All of the above?

Over the course of the last decade we have seen numerous coaches, GMs, and players come and go and yet we're stuck in the same tailspin. Moving forward, I recommend we do it right this time, not by spending boat loads of cash which we know Ralph will never do, but to spend the money we already spend but spread it out differently. Put more money into the GM, the front office, and the coaching staff. Stop paying our head coaches like other teams spend on their coordinators. Bring in proven guys that have turned things around before. Make at least one huge free agent signing every year. Until then, the pathetic product that his been on display at OBD over the last decade plus will only continue.

What a flawed point of view on this....sorry bud...I buy very little of what you are saying

  6. I agree that you start with a QB. That's what Indy did, and they did it to perfection. The thing most don't understand, however, is that we're not starting right now. We're halfway there and to "start" with a QB would set us back again. Build talent to win with Fitz. Then upgrade Fitz with a rookie with enough talent around him not to set us back 3 more years.

So did San Diego that year dipshit. How'd that work for them. Don't make it overly simplistic or anything....geeezus

  7. Yes thats what I meant. thanks ptr! :)

I am going to say it here early.

K S is going to become a very efficient and well respected player in time.

and i am already hoping strongly that we develop him to his fullest potential here under the new linebackers coaching regime. Then with Nix aboard and in control retain him when he becomes one of the best. I hope we have changed the mentality that trades away guys like L Fletcher and the rest.

So i wont recall i said it, but I think Sheppard has the makeup to be the guy for us.

i still want to draft another for Barnett to teach. As his apprentice.

Wtf are you talking about? None of this makes sense...am I missing something...can someone translate?

  8. btw....schefter is reporting that denver will take von miller

...and where does Schefter fall on the reliability meter....#10 with the rest of the ESPN Insiders? If it is #10, should we care what he says?

  9. We brought him here because both the Bills and his agent knew that there was not choice although the Dolphins would have grabbed him if we did not. He had just a couple of days to prepare and did well and played well for the entire time in Buffalo.

We can say what we want about the Maybin pick, Trent starting ahead of Fitz, making average pass rushers cover backs and look like idiots and then giving them huge contacts, etc., but this is/was a mistake too. This guy started for us and played hard and is doing very well in Miami right now. To counter my point, TO is having a very good year as a Bengal, but it sure is fun watching late draft picks and undrafted fa's play well.

I am pleased overall with where and what the Bills have done this year but this is a mistake on par with the others noted above.

Let's apply some logical reasoning to this. Did you ever think about the fact that he DIDN'T want to sign a contract to play for the Bills when he became a free agent in the offseason??

Should the Bills have held a gun to his head and made him stay or stick with the players that are interested.....?

  10. Ever think about the salary cap here?

Even if everyone thought that this was a great idea (they don't) and even if the Bills could get something of great value for their latest 1st round pick (they can't), this isn't Madden football or makinga trade with a guy in your fantasy league.

Through the convoluted financing called the slary cap the Bills would take a big hit - if a player is traded the unamortized bonus (the non salary part) that remains for the life of the contract is immediately accelerated to that year's salary cap. So, you have a higly paid rookie with a big contract and that contract is in its first year - plenty of bonus left on it that would instantly count toward the cap. Even if the Bills could get Peyton Manning for Spiller it might be tough to do - this is one of the reasons you see so few trades of big dollar players unless they are at the end of those big contracts.....

Maybe I shouldn't be, but I'm shocked it took until the 4th page for someone to mention this. Forget all of the other rational reasons why trading Spiller is dumb, this is, first and foremost, the main reason why this would never be done!

Yo OP / FITZ, you think your a great GM in your own mind, but maybe you should take a course in Salary Cap 101. They have this thing called a "salary cap" in the NFL....learn it, understand it before you take that GM job! <_<

  11. It takes real effort to F-up a franchise this bad. There should not be ANYONE left in the scouting

department after this season. This team is so void of talent it is ridiculous. The only two

1st round picks that are good at all in the last many years are Lee Evans and Eric Wood.

For those thinking that they should "build around Fitz", I think that he is showing why he is a

    tough overachieving career-backup.

Even formerly good K Rian Lindell is now awful. How on earth do you kick the ball out of bounds

with 1:17 left? That error gave Cincinatti 3 points and if the Bengals were worth a crap, they'd

have scored 7. Way to just hand momentum right back to Cinci after a late score gave the Bills

    just a little hope.

I've been a fan since the late 60s and while I admire the team's effort, they are just truly

awful and might be the worst team I have seen in those 40 some years.

Whew, I needed to vent that. I'll try to get back to being calm and rational now.

....and it takes a real fair weather friend jackass to start an f'd-up thread like this early in a game. Hope you shut the game off and did not get to see that comeback!

There was a hell of a lot of talent and heart on the Bills. The Bengals have a serious chemistry imbalance...

  12. Because sometimes coaches get fired because they're scapegoated, not because they suck. Sean McDermott is a very good defensive coach, and Philly would be moronic to fire him because of a bad quarter against the Titans.

Prove it. He did little last year after taking over for Jim johnson (RIP). He is doing little with the defense this year to distinguish himself...the Titans game being only the most recent example.

  13. I think someone needs to beat you into using paragraphs....unless a light spanking will do the trick.

Oh, and using spanking children as an approach to teaching them as a comparison to violent hits that lead to knocking someone out is just nonsense. A more appropriate comparison would be to old school coal miners....they used to deal with workplace conditions that led to a significantly reduced life expectancy including terrible diseases like black lung disease.

This is only the start. With all of the recent findings on the severity of head trauma and the medical condition of ex-players, the legal and medical costs of the current NFL model are a huge risk and must be changed quickly. Sorry, but your nostalgic view of the joys of big hits will take a back seat to the financial realities of life in a non-third world nation. With that being said, there is always the ufc...

  14.

(I believe the great Jason Peters also had another of his stellar, penalty-filled games  )

I was at the game. Peters had 2 key holding calls (that I remember). 1 flat out killed a drive. He was beat a few other times and missed a block on a run. Of course there were a few plays where he dominated when he put his mind to it....typical Peter game...flashes of brilliance and flashes of apathy.
