Dallas and the NFL just lost a true star player even if he is a guard.  Bills may have lost their heart on defense and a team leader.

It is time to end all pre-season games.  Don't tell me about timing and figuring out roster spots.  Week 1 of college is played at just as high level as week 4.  The plays run in pre-season are not the same ones they would run or face in week 1.  All teams would be equal in terms of preparation.  They knew their top 45 guys after OTAs and their top 50 before the first preseason game.

There is no reason to risk injury in meaningless games.  If a guy gets hurt in practice so be it.

    No reason? There’s a big reason:$

EJ Manuel and Sack o ####enberg have one thing in common.

The year after EJ left FSU, FSU won the national title.

The year after CSoS### left Penn State, they won the Big 10 .

Always funny to see a college program lose a "star" QB to the NFL... and then do much much better the next year with his uber-green replacement...

Like T Martin taking over for Peyton Manning

So, on the leadership issues as it relates to this commentary, Rosen strikes me as world class narcissist, and a self-absorbed rich kid who could be prone to alienating teammates (and fans, though winning chills a lot of that noise out).  He also strikes me as Intolernat of the views of others,  and I think that can cause friction when working with  adults.  To summarize....I think he sounds like a Trust Fund baby.

Its not not even so much what he says, or wearing a dopey hat,  much of what he's talking about likely comes from a good place, but I'm typically concerned about someone's leadership quotient when in less than 1000 words they've told me how enlightened they are relative to other people,  how well-educated they are because like UCLA,  how wealthy their parents are,  how there's so much ignorance in the country relative to everything they know, but the real kicker for me was "I'll debate ANYONE" which always seems an awful lot like "I'll bludgeon ANYONE" with my opinions".

then again, maybe he's so good no one gives a crap about any of that and he leads his team to the promised land.  Hard to say. Oh and I gotta hand it to him on the Thuderbuddies reference.

Wow! Did you even read his quote?

I remember when we drafted Thurman Thomas in the 2nd round and Kiper said Thurman was a waste of a pick. I have laughed about Kiper since then.

Your post brought back memories of that draft so I looked it up and found this article>

    http://articles.latimes.com/1988-04-25/sports/sp-1164_1_nfl-draft

Funny how wrong the writer is about pretty much everything related to the draft! Other than "Mel Kiper, whoever he is, and his 200-word sentences"

Wonder if he would have believed that the draft would turn into a 3+ day event and newspapers would be out of business in 30 years (vs. his prediction that draft are to be covered by newspapers and not TV :)

How so? How well did engaging in politics work out for Colin? What was the point of mentioning Alabama and how was it relevant to balancing academics and football? He's an immature dumb ass. Maybe too much soaking in the hot tub in his dorm room?

Really going out on a limb here, but he mentioned Alabama perhaps because they are an active college dynasty winning many national championships of late.  Very good example to prove his point that they would win far less if you raised their SAT requirement.  Can you make an argument to disagree with his premise?  I'm sure Marcell Dareus would still have gone to Alabama if the SAT requirement was raised to 1000+.   As for the hot tub comment....you must be just jealous because that is a great idea and typical of an underclassman.  We put a blue tarp in the back of a pickup truck and filled it up with water from our apartment at my college....kept the hot water running and just cycled between 3 apartments as the hot water tanks emptied.  That's college and great memories!

    Where is he from?

I think Star makes a lot of sense for the bills due to need and the fact that his worst year of his career was when he was apart from McD. I think it makes sense for both sides and i want to see it happen, but i definitely don't want to overpay for him.

Is Bryce, Bo’s brother? Bo was big time on draft day

  7. I would like to see:

    * McCoy spike the ball on the Eagles logo and flip off the crowd to get those former 500 level Eagle fans really going

    * TT rush for 100 yards and 2 TD (no pass attempts)

    * Incognito lose it and I mean sledgehammer on a Ferrari lose it

    * Boldin flush out the rest of the prima donnas

    * Hughes hit the over on 2 personal fouls

    * Lorax play every down in the first Q in all 3 phases

    * Dareus drop in coverage a bunch of times to work off that body fat

    * Peterman's wedding ring

    * Ragland cover some WRs to really see if he has what it takes

    * Darby play lots of zone coverage

    * Jeffery Lurie cry to McCoy again about trading him

    * Schwartz unveil a new hybrid 3-4 scheme to show Rex how to coach D

    * me cover my $50 bet I just placed in Vegas on Bills with Eagles favored by 4.5 parlayed with Bucs favored by 1 at the half against Marones runnin' jag-offs

    Go Bills!

  8. How many PATs were blocked? Seven?

I was thinking the same thing. The blocking was atrocious and his trajectory was a bit low....both of which are fairly easy to correct. Carpenter's misses were mental which is way harder to fix...if fixable at all. He was really shanking then like my drives on the golf course....hook one hole and slice the next. Can't just look at the stats for this comparison!

All eyes on LeSean McCoy... but will it matter? 5 things to watch in #Bills/Dolphins, complete with prediction: https://t.co/8usVLbRKFC

Five things to watch for on Sunday:

    1) LeSean: Will he or wont he?

    2) The return of Shaq

    3) Run it all day

    4) Beware of Landry

    5) What do the Bills do without Woods?

    Prediction: Bills over Dolphins

What is Shaq returning from? Don't you have to be there before in order to return?
  10.

Obviously the Bills agree they have better places to invest their time, energy, and money or they wouldn't have cut him. But in cutting him, they are cutting a player in whom they invested a draft pick (albeit a low round one) and a season of development. All I'm saying is the stated "too fat to practice" 1 week of "didn't perform well" doesn't seem like enough reason to toss that investment.

It's kind of  to describe a player who starts 11 games for 5.6 ypa, a 78.6% catch/target and scores 9 TDs as "did nothing except get hurt when you have the chance to start". Had he shown he was a long-term star or a starter, or a guy you can build around, No. But he did show he could play and contribute in the league, and that really shouldn't be questioned by anyone knowledgeable in the game.

Both of these views make a lot more sense to me. If the players didn't trust him and there were locker room issues and coaching issues (lack of focus/effort?) on top of the weight and the suspension, that would be reason to cut their losses.

I suppose we'll never know, but I do tend to believe there must have been some final precipitating event that put him "over the top" with management. I have believed this about Lynch and Bryce Brown as well, but nothing has ever come out.

Wondering if the team leaders also weighed in (pun intended) that he needed to go...was a problem in the locker room, etc. That will probably stay in the locker room with the players and we may never hear that part
  11. I realized not too long ago that Mario pulled a Clowney. Clowney during his last year in college knew that he wasn't going to stay and would be a high pick. So he mailed it in for the entire year. Mario knew that no matter what his contract wouldn't allow him to stay on the team barring a pay cut. So he protected himself and dogged it. What I don't think he accounted for is how much the "quitter" label would effect his pay check. I want all of the people defending him to think about this. In a year where Olivier Vernon got 15 million for potential Mario had to settle for 8. He even floated that the first person to offer him 10 would get him and he couldn't get that. So all of us on message boards can opine for the entire off season but the league has already spoken on this issue and it doesn't reflect favorably on Mario.

Failed to the tune of not having a top 10 defesne twice in the years he has been a HC including last year. Rex was always dogged for poor offensive performance. His defenses were rarely the issue.

Yup. As I posted above clearly the league thinks he quit. Rex certainly erred in not pulling him off of the field.

This thread is beyond my comprehension. I have seen nobody defend the job Rex did last year. EVERYONE was disappointed. To lay the poor defensive performance at his feet entirely and not account for injuries or your best player mailing it in is lazy at best. Rex has even come out and admitted that he screwed the pooch last year by not going with his system full bore at the beginning of last year. I have yet to see anyone completely exonerate Rex for the d failings last year.

Great post! Agree with all of your pound except for pulling/benching Mario. I think that was a great move. He is your highest paid player. Let him go out there and earn that money he is f'n making...,and when he didn't, all of his teammates, fans and 31 GMs in the league (apparently Miami GM wasn't paying attention) have a whole season of film to watch of him quitting. I also can almost assure it was an organizational decision going all the way to the top to let it play out that way...not just Rex. Everyone knew he quit.

If he was benched or cut, Mario could have just pointed to how he was f'd over and that he would have had double digit sacks and wouldn't let him play, but Rex and the new coaching staff had it out for him...etc. he probably would have had several teams line up that would have bought it and have him a bigger deal in that scenario.

  12. I'm not ready to give into the unlikely scenario they will actually draft a QB in the first round. Assuming this is a smoke screen, what are the likely reasons?

    * motivation for Tyrod

    * deterrent to Tyrod's agent for negotiations

    * throw off other teams regarding their intentions on draft day

    * learn more about the delta between top prospects and mid-late round prospects they are more likely to draft

Some combination? All of the above? Other options?
