  1. And he refused an extension.

Isn't a great feeling to have the Bills HC looking to fill out his staff while the choices are plentiful compared to other years when the Bills were picking thru scraps.

Plus its an aggressive move.....certainly puts the Jets on "defense" (pun intended).....whether he gets the job or not, the Jets have all kinds of damage control issues to react to from just the fact the Bills made the request and apparently let it go public. Great move if they don't do anything else with this guy!

Throwing with good velocity /accuracy has been a problem in the past, but now Ryan Fitzpatrick has adjusted to his change in mechanics, its not so much of a problem any more going by the last three outings.

I've been one of Fitzys toughest critics over the last few years and doing a 180 on my future expectations is because Fitz is throwing that good.

I've never seen him throw better then he did against the Pats...

That was one of the best QBd games

I've seen for the Bills in a long time.

Glad to see someone else thinks this, as well. Thought I was crazy continuing to read the crap thrown at Fitz on here

  3. Gues you missed the fact they were putting 8 or even 9 I the box. Was anyone paying attention?? I don't care how good your running game is bit you CAN'T run against that consistently. They were daring the Bulls to throw.

You can argue how well they executed the pass plays but the play calls weren't so bad

  4.

I've got a great Marino story about when he tried to pick up my wife in a hotel bar while his family was having dinner in the hotel restaurant ("But aren't you married?" "It's okay, they'll be at dinner for a while...")

I root for Marino to be injured on the set of NFL Today. !@#$ him.

Wow...still pissed. Did she go for it?

Fumbles like his give away football games. This is nothing new either. Passes fly off his hands for interceptions as well. He will not be an elite player until he fixes his bad habits. His stats were great. Now, how about him winning us a football game? How many has he won for us? Serioulsy, you tell me!

Tell me what Bills player has won us a football game in the last 11 months?!? Seriously, why single Spiller out? He appeared to be about the only one making plays.

I kinda doubt that. You can bet Chan and Shanahan spoke to each other before the game. It's a common practice among coaches. Anyway, I thought the starting OLine acquitted themselves quite well considering those two young OTs were thrown to the wolves when we came out running the two-minute offense.

    GO BILLS!!!

Agree that the oline handled it pretty well outside the penalties. Chan made a comment in an interview at the half or end of game in which he mentioned that he expected more nickel from the skins and was a little surprised. Also said that they had not installed pressure 3-4 reads yet, but that it was still a good learning experience for them to see it. Anyone else hear this?

Most of the game was second and third string against second and third string. Neither team was playing with any sense of urgency and simply working on their playbooks. To simplify it for you, let's take our 4-year Superbowl team of the 90's. In any given preseason, they won either 0 or 1 game out of 4. All they did is work on certain aspects of offense and defense. It's not even close to the reality of what games are in season.

What are you simplifying for me and why? I made a general statement that had nothing to do with a) 2nd or 3rd stringers or b) winning or losing the game.

Pretty simple concept actually. Basically it's a limited playbook to allow players to get used to the schemes and formations. For example, defensively against the Redskins, the Bills didn't run a single blitz. Not one. They didn't call any of the more complex defensive packages that they'll be running in the regular season. The Redskins on offense didn't run any of what will be more complex route packages. No team shows their hand in the preseason of the things they're going to try to do in the regular season. Hopefully that helps elaborate on what I was trying to say before.

The redskins did not play vanilla d and did apply a lot of pressure on defense though. They were bringing an extra man or 2 out of the 3-4 on most plays from all sides. I was a little surprised to see this in the first preseason game. The Bills were surprised, as well....

  8. Not being a man of faith, I have to ask if there is an allotment of things that you are allowed to pray for? Is this really something that you would call on your god for?

If you are sick and tired of Bills fans clinging to feel good stories, what are you going to do if they win? That will be a feel-good story, as the Bills are just a football team. It won't cure cancer, or feed children...

It is nice to see that somebody...anybody...was willing to be the grown up in the room and say that Bills fans shouldn't feel good. If there is one thing that I have noticed it is that there aren't enough negative pricks in these forums. We need more people like you to rub keep brining up that they Bills haven't been good in a long time, and that it has been one abysmal failure after another...I almost completely forgot, and was going to get excited about the prospects of competing this year. If there is anything that we don't need, it is hope, or happiness. We need to be serious and disappointed all of the time. We only have one life to live, and if you go around having fun or being happy all of the time, you are missing the point.

I do find it, at least mildly, amusing that the brave posters are willing to complain about lack of talent, bad drafts, poor coaching, blah blah blah blah, until they mention Fitz. They make it sound like he had the world handed to him when he strolled into Buffalo. I am not counting last year, when the Super Bowl was ours for the taking if only Fitz didn't screw it all up by playing through injuries, and figuring out a way to get rid of the football at a record pace...I mean when he got a clean snap that is.

I am tired of him holding us back, too, and if he doesn't do it this year, we should go back to looking for a QB, because there are a ton of them out there, and if it isn't every year that some new 22 year old wins the SB. A lot of QBs have played this game and never won, or been to a Super Bowl. There are "franchise," a term that is nonsensical to me, QBs who didn't even make the Playoffs every year, but yet if Fitz doesn't do all of that this year, he is scrap? The search for things to talk about has drug us to new lows, and the quest for something to piss and moan about even lower.

    XOXO,

    BBK

    Amen brother! Great response...well done!

  9. Just found the quote -- it was about Travis, from Joel Buchsbaum:

"[Henry] is about as tough to tackle as a fire hydrant or a bowling ball rolling downhill with butcher knives sticking out of it."

There was another quote that tackling him was like tackling a full keg of beer slathered in oil. Not sure who said this...it's from memory...
