  1. No doubt, IMO. That and bowing to pressure from anti-alcohol concerns. There is little opposition to more rigid laws in this area.
  2. How about Miss Li? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsM3Mg7Ym4A
  3. Well, for the record, I'm pretty sick of the "Greatest Generation" (modest, no?) and Generations Y, X and Next, too. Screw all of ya!
  4. I figured Nixon would just blame the entire thing on JFK.
  5. OK, one more. Not typically a fan of this type of singer, but Janita (Jenny) Haan from 70's band Babe Ruth, is a major exception. She can belt it out, that's for sure: And here's something live:
  6. No real advice. But congrats on the new gig (even if it isn't in one of your preferred places). DC can be a lot of fun, so I think you will be fine. My favorite DC bar (21st Amendment) burned down. I think it has reopened, but I haven't been since, so I don't know what the deal is. Garrett's in Georgetown was pretty good, if memory serves me. Decorated with Rhinos. I dig Rhinos.
  7. Deborah Berg (from the band Eye to Eye) is one of my all-time favorite modern female vocalist. This first video is relatively new (2005) and really shows the maturity of Deborah's voice. This older classic number (1981) is a better song IMO, but there is no video to speak of. So I will simply provide the link. This is when she was much younger, obviously: Hope you like it. Lavay Smith is a real throwback. Amy Winehouse gets all the pub, mostly for her bad behavior. But Lavay is the real deal, who deserves to be much better know.
  8. Very nice. I know she's not really "lesser known", but I'll take any excuse to pimp Emmylou Harris. Here's a classic with The Band: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryEXqzwrvVA
  9. Lovely. BTW, First link is broken, but I got the URL.
  10. Japanese pop at its finest (or at least most amusing):
  11. My first reaction when I saw the thread title was, "Duh"
  12. Maybe I should have linked this, instead:
  13. Lavay Smith is a terrific swing jazz vocalist and has the best swing band in the country (The Red Hot Skillet Lickers) backing her. http://chasingthemoon.pdcst.com/2009/12/lavaysmith/ I recommend either One Hour Mama or Everybody's Talkin' Bout Miss Thing. Here latest, Miss Smith To You, isn't bad, but I find the song selection a bit trite. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lavay_Smith Another you might like is Holly Cole. I was turned on to her just a few years ago (by LA Bills Fan, maybe?). I haven't heard a lot of her stuff, but like what I have heard quite a bit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aU-I_g-s4lk
  14. I'm not sure this strategy works well for acquiring an additional TV. It is, rather, a replacement strategy. I'm thinking you should engage in some objectionable behavior in the area that currently lacks a TV (and where you would place the 3rd TV). When confronted by your wife, your position should be: "I wouldn't be porking chickens in the study if there was a big screen TV there to amuse (soothe/distract/etc) me."
  15. Maybe it was a ploy to get rid of his old tube TV and get a new flat panel 3D TV. The wife's been fighting that for years. Now, perhaps, she'll be a bit more pliable.
  16. He may or may not be all of those things, but he sure kicked some serious ass against the Redskins. Peters was phenomenal in that game. I don't get to see much of him, but from what I have seen this year, he has plenty left in the tank. He does miss quite a bit of playing time though, it seems.
  17. True enough. But if people shot their TVs every time someone with no talent appeared on one of these shows....
  18. I have seen all the episodes to date. Very well done, but i don't see this show holding my interest for a very long time. There's only so much they can do, IMO, with this premise.
  19. Why is Warren writing a letter to my breakfast cereal? Seriously though, I give Warren credit. He sees the forest, and not simply the trees.
  20. Starring Ryan Reynolds. 'nuff said.
  21. Very sad story. Actually that doesn't bring a new meaning, as that is the origin of the band's name.
  22. Of course. Sure. Absolutely. Why not? As long as they don't promote eating crayons, I'm good.
  23. Not sure what you mean. The person who complained about her, or the person who decided this was enough to fire her? The person who actually fired her based on this info is probably a moron, IMO. And I have a feeling a good lawyer could cause some real problems for that person. As for the person issuing the complaint, I wouldn't exactly call him/her a genius, either. Filing trivial complaints against someone you don't like doesn't exactly take too much intelligence. The only reason it worked in this case is because the administrator in charge was a moron.
  24. Agreed. Especially if you are posting complaints about your boss, coworkers, etc. While I don't agree it should be a fire-able offense, it's just plain stupid. if you are using your real name for your account. Now, the teacher posting pics with drinks in her hand is a different story. That is perfectly acceptable and only a moron would think to use it against her. The only negative thing there is that she actually has, and uses, a Facebook account.
