  1. You gotta love the guys who played for a small school and somehow that makes them more of an expert that the normal fan. the "I coulda been a contender" guys are quite hilarious.
  2. I agree with you on that. I signed up for the yea long subscrition to insider and the Mag, insider is great, tons of great artcicles. The Mag, not so much! 120 pages with only 60 pages worth of articles.
  3. He came out of college early because he needed to make some money and because of that he was considered "raw talent". Very unpolished and a lot of teams didnt want to waste a draft pick on him. Plus, most teams weren't sure how they could use him in the NFL. Funny thing now about draft picks is that its alsmost guaranteed that if a guy is drafted, he's going to make the 53 man roster because a draft pick is considered more of an investment than a UFA.
  4. What is aggravating me is that every sportswrite is now saying how the NFL is not safe. Think maybe they should wait until the autopsy comes out before they make an assumption about his death being football related?
  5. Valid concern, but I dont think it will be anything to worry about. The thing about terrorists is that they only strike when its not expected or we cant do anything about it. For large crowds such as sporting events, security is tight, the skies are watched yada yada. Look at the types of attacks that have happened, 9/11, Spain, London, the attack on the Navy ship that was in dock at the time last week. All these attacks came when we didnt expect them too. They are smart enough to know when to plan their attacks at least.
  6. WGR are a bunch of whiners, I dont get to hear them anymore since I dont live in the area, but as of last year when I last heard them it was just getting to be too much bullsh*t to listen to. Schopp, Bulldog, that young guy who does the night show, all they do is complain about what Donahoe and MM do and how they dont get treated well cos they're the media. No NFL team has an obligation to any media outlet to kiss their ass and tell them what they are doing. Next thing they'll be asking what they're gameplan is for the next game. IDIOTS!
  7. Aye, aye, Mathhews will reitre after this year and we will have more time to look at Woodbury next year.
  8. Thats true and that might be the problem with politics today. Almost everyone who has moved up to some higher level of state or federal gov't has worked at a lowel level at some point. You do see the occaional breakthrough on the respresentational level sushc as congress or state legislature, but its becoming more rare. Seems as though you see anyone holding some sort of publ;ic office before they run for office. Just an observation.
  9. I would actually rather see more outsiders take public office. If you look back to history as a guide, a lot of politicians come from backgrounds other than politics. The founding fathers were not politicians, they were farmers, businessmen, bankers, etc., and when they were done being politicians, they went back to their former lives.
  10. Interesting point of view. The one thing the casino has going for it is jobs. The contention is whether or not the economic impact on the community as a whole is worthwhile. that, is yet to be seen
  11. Probably, but hes not going to get it in Buffalo. $12-13 million signing bonus when we already have tons of $$$ tied up at WR, QB, DT and LB. Nate will make his millions somewhere, not here, but he deserves it.
  12. Yes sir you are completely correct, I lookedit up and according to Fred Gandy's IMDB.com profile, Fred Gandy graduated from Harvard in 1970 with a degree in English. He also attended Phillips Exeter Academy with david Eisenhower, gradson of Ike. The whole point is, what exactly does qualify someone as being a public official? Education? Job history? Family history? People skills? Its actually a very interesting discussion I would love to have without all the political bashing.
  13. Exactly my point, you can't say being an actor doesn't qualify someone for holding public office. I was pointing out examples of other actors that have held public office in the past, so saying one doesn't qualify has no affect on saying the other does.
  14. In that case what qulaified him as governor after being an actor? You can look at so many actors that have run for office through the years, eastwood, Sonny Bono, the guy from Love boat.
  15. I'm never home at the time thise show comes on, along with ESPN Hollywood, 3:00 here in AZ, but do they still show the 6:00 Sportscenter? If not then how stupid is ESPN?
  16. Urban Legends reference page has also shot down the Walken For president rumors Walken for president? Walken for President Claim: Actor Christopher Walken is planning on making a bid for the U.S. presidency in 2008. Status: False. Origins: Actor Ronald Reagan parlayed his film career and experience as president of the Screen Actors Guild into a political career that saw him twice elected as both Governor of California and President of the United States. Television actor Fred Grandy (of Love Boat fame) served four consecutive terms as in the U.S. Congress representing the state of Iowa. And action hero Arnold Schwarzenegger currently holds the governorship of California. So, with the 2008 race for U.S. president possibly shaping up to be a wide-open one, why wouldn't an actor such as, say, Christopher Walken test the waters and see if he could make a go of it? That's the premise behind such web sites as www.walken2008.com and www.walkenforpres.com, which are supposedly maintained by the "Walken 2008 Campaign" and tout a putative actor-turned-candidate who says "It's time to get America back on track." However, the Walken for President web sites are hoaxes, according to the actor's publicist: A Web site announcing Hollywood actor Christopher Walken plans to seek the U.S. presidency is a hoax, his publicist says. The site, walken2008.com claims to quote the actor as saying, "It's time to get America back on track," and says he will run for the nation's top post in 2008. But his rep told "Entertainment Tonight" that the site is "100 percent not true." "(It) sounds like someone got a little too excited over his role as secretary of the Treasury in 'The Wedding Crashers' and now they want to make him president," the rep said. Rumors regarding who is behind the stunt range from its being a marketing campaign for the 2005 film Wedding Crashers (in which Walken plays the role of U.S. Secretary of the Treasury) to its being merely an elaborate prank.
  17. At the very least I can see your point of view, and I know that is the general point of view of most of the pro-casino crowd, I just dont see it working. I have to say though, here in Arizona, there are quite a few casinos, but they are all Indian run operations. They seem to get good business but Arizona has a thriving economy at this point in history so most businesses do pretty good. I also noticed you said all the people you know go to the casinos, which I guess is OK, but you have to be able to look at things from the crowd that doesn't go. I am an occasional once ina great while casino goer, usually only going if a group goes and its somewhere I can get free drinks while playing a game. Bottom line, from my point of view, and yes this is from a former Buffalonian who sees things from a bit of an outsiders perspective now, I dont think a city run casino would honestly turn around the fortunes of downtown Buffalo. The problems with the city's downfall are mulitiple, multiple bad decisions going back the half century or so. Everything from building the 190 on the waterfront, to building the Stadium in orchard park to builidng Ub in Amherst. These are all thing along with many many many many many others that have affected B-lo and the surrounding towns. One city run casino, will not change that, I dont care how many people it brings in. I'm not saying a casino can't do decent business, its just not the end all solution, which you might not think it is either, I'm just saying.
  18. I figured you'd like that one. Now why dont you go eat a coroded piece of crap, to quote your avatar.
  19. I will agree with you on those two, there is pretty much great food almost anywhere. I still struggle to find the perfect wings outside of Buffalo, but thats just hometown bias. I love the comment on nice people. It reminds me of a comment my former roommate made. We were watching something on NFL players homes, and they showed Takeo Spikes house in Atlanta. Roommate said "he Doesn't live In Buffalo?" I made a comment like hes a millionaire, and he's from Atlanta, so it makes sense he wouldn't live here in the offseason, plus the weather is better there. Roommate "THERE'S GOOD PEOPLE HERE DUDE, I LIKE LIVING HERE!!" Just the ultimate example of a quote from someone who has never lived outside of WNY and has no idea what the rest of the world is like. I know people who have never even traveled further West than Cleveland, and no further East than Rochester. that to me, is not living.
  20. For your information, myself and most of the other people who "bailed" on Buffalo, still have family and friends who live there. family and friends that pay high taxes, run businesses and put up with all the crap that goes with that area. Saying that we have no right to criticize the way Buffalo is run just because we are not physically living in the area anymore is ridiculous. Thats like saying people in the U.S. shouldn't critcize other countries for their policies or other countries telling us to shut the F up. Also, if moving to a new city or state to find a better opportunity for ourselves and our families is "bailing" and is bad thing then I guess myself and all the others who "bailed" are guilty. Why don't you organize some sort of militia to guard the state borders not allowing us to come and visit.
  21. Damn straight, I got out of town a while ago. The whole problem with the casino idea in Buffalo, is that the people in favor of it seem to think it is going to make Buffalo a tourist desination. I got news for ya, BUFFALO IS NOT A TOURIST DESTINATION!! Yes, Niagar Falls is one of the top tourist destinations in the country, no doubt, but Buffalo is not. The idea of having the hotel and casino in the Falls is great because it is an attempt to bring tourists from Canada over to the states. My questions is this, why would someone who came accross the border from Canada to visit the falls and play in the casino, drive down to buffalo to visit another casino? the only time I could see people from out of town coming to visit Buffalo and go to the casino is maybe during football season when out of towners from NY and New England have downtown hotels would maybe visit the casino, but othet than that its going to be locals visiting the casino and spenind local money. makes no sense to me.
  22. I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but it turns out the website is a hoax, just found this post on IMDB.com today: Walken for President? Actor Christopher Walken is caught in the midst of reports he plans to vie for the role of US president. While the eccentric screen star plays a member of the White House in the hit comedy Wedding Crashers, rumors have been circulating that he is aiming to take over George W. Bush's job in 2008. A website for Walken's "campaign" has even been set up at Walken2008.com, but a representative for the actor insists the story is false, stating, "It's one-hundred per cent not true. (It) sounds like someone got a little too excited over his role as Secretary Of The Treasury in Wedding Crashers and now they want to make him president." Walken for pres?
  23. I can't honestly say I predict less turnovers from the Bills offense, maybe less sacks, but the way J.P. performs under real game pressure is yet to be seen. He's a rookie, and rookies make mistakes, except Ben Roethlisberger.
  24. I agree, the I liked that show much better than Kirk Cameron's latest effort. The new much more frightening Kirk Cameron
