1. I know this is hard to take but a Kerry win will have nothing to do with imagined shenanigans.

    80424

Oh no, lying to black Philadelphians and hiring felons to help fill out the rolls in Philly aren't shenanigans. No, they're not the same old tried and true tricks.

BEAR IN MIND that Philadelphia NEARLY elected a Republican mayor last time around. There are votes there for Bush.

And I don't think Kerry will break even in the burbs. He'll have to hope that the black vote isinflated, as it's the one sure thing he does have in the state.

Oh, and as an aside, I'm no partisan. I don't work for either campaign.

  2. Did you read it?  Don't you think the quotes from Rev. Jim Wallis, a man who helped Bush in his spiritual journey, are at the least revealing?

It's the substance and not the style I want to hear about.

Actually, i've already red the whole "Bush" series. There's like 5 articles and not ONE is complimentary to the president. It's blatant.

  3. Oh my Lord!  Zell Miller!  You're kidding me!  Next thing you'll know he'll Keynote the Republican convention!  Now Kerry will never win Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina!  Kerry is billsfanone!

Dick Morris!  Oh, NO!  Perhaps he'll do hatchet job commentary on Fox then Kerry will never get elected.  I mean, Dick Morris, a man of impectable integrity and trust among all Americans.  This is worse than a slap in the face from Jesus.

Ed Koch.  Say it ain't so!!!  The man is still a political juggernaut, perhaps he can push Bush over the top in New York.  The man always had a rock solid reputation as a yellow dog Democrat, who only every other election endorses a Republican.

Wow, Randy Kelly.  It just may appear as if he's not well respect in Minnesota but don't be fooled, this man can carry the state for Bush.

I'm way too upset to talk about the betrayl of Democratic icons like Sarah Baxter and George McKelvey.

    80402

The point being that Kerry's lock on his OWN PARTY is hardly absolute.

Witness the insurgency of Howard Dean. He had to change his whole campaign just to beat an unknown governor from a backwater state. Kerry will not win the general election.

    Not now, not ever.

  4. I was just in Pennsylvania and spoke with a very politically active woman there for a couple days. She came from Washington to work on the Kerry campaign there. And I know her well, for 20+ years. She tells it straight, and I said don't sugarcoat it (she wouldnt anyway) and she says "it's all but a lock". They have more volunteers than they need. They think he's going to win by several points. Unless something drastic happens, I would bet you anything that Kerry wins PA.

    80390

Well being a RESIDENT of the Lehigh Valley, I can assure you that the ABE region, not to mention the Philly Suburbs are HIGHLY likely to break for Bush. If that happens, it's gonna take shenanigans from Rendell in Harrisburg and Street in Philadelphia to deliver the state for Kerry.

What else would you expect a partisan to say? Bush has had an incredibly high profile here. He knows where his Pennsylvania bread is buttered...outside Philly and Pittsburgh. All he has to do is win the Lehigh Valley, the middle of the state and some of the far Northeast (around Scranton) and he WILL win the state.

If he does win the state, Kerry is dead.

  5. Without a Doubt

A pretty eye-opening article.  The second page story about the Sweden/Switzerland mixup is particularly frightening.  I know some will discount this before reading it as it's the Times, but it is a very in-depth article and it raises some points that should be discussed.

    80351

You know, there's one reason why I HATE the NY Times. They don't even ATTEMPT to put a veneer of objectivity on their writing. They are blatant in their partisan allegiance to the old order of elitist east coast liberals. They ARE the liberal establishment, and proud of it. Yet they have the GALL to claim to be the "paper of record". Rubbish.

  6. Jonah Goldberg? You're right. That guy is nuts. And is one of the biggest "party hacks" that he denigrates.  :w00t:

The fact is a lot of blacks votes didn't get counted in Florida as they intended or tried to vote, and the blacks and democrats were and are pissed. The other fact is, the blacks and democrats need to shut up and take some responsibility and just make sure they know where to vote and how to vote. IF what they say is true, and that's a big if, then the number that wanted to vote and were "disenfranchised" will be counted this time and Kerry will likely win Florida. If not, tough luck.

    80311

    We'll see about that:

Check out This column, the author states:

This week, for example, they gave some eye-opening comments on the much-ballyhooed increase in voter turnout this year.

Gerry Daly of dalythoughts.com crunched some Harris Poll numbers to see what it would take for John Kerry to overtake President Bush due entirely to increased turnout. He found that Kerry will need 9.6 million new voters. And he doesn't mean new voters between the ages of 18-21 who've never been able to vote for president before. He means "nearly 10 million people, aged 22 and over, who did not vote in 2000 but are going to this year."

"Maybe," Daly writes, "there is such antipathy towards George W. Bush that will bring voters out even more than the candidacy of Ross Perot did [in 1992]. We'll know in less than two weeks. If there are, then the Harris poll suggests that Kerry is in the ballpark. If these votes do not materialize, the Harris poll suggests that it will be a short night a week from Tuesday."

I think Kery's not only going to lose this election, but if numbers hold up as they are in PA and MI, this election will be a rout for GWB.

You heard it here first. National polls mean nothing. Look to the states, Kelly. Look to the states.

  7. It was about the process Tom. I think its great the children learn these things. Aside from their parents obvious political feelings. On one hand you have the George Will Op-ed and on the other you have this article, quite a contrast. As a parent it is so important to teach your children responsibility. Because its obvious there are some in this country the wont do it for their kids. As some adults have in the past shown, the don’t care, nor want to learn how to vote. I thought it was a great article about how teachers can be pro-active in teaching kids the importance of voting.

My father userd to take me to the polls with him when I was a young boy. I learned how to vote by watching him.

Thanks, dad, I'm glad I didn't turn out to be one of those semi-illiterate half-retarded people that can't figure out a simple ballot.

    Note to my fellow Wallers:

The Curse only works when it's unintentional. If I try to apply the curse intentionally, the reverse will happen big-time. Much as I would like to see the Cardinals lose tonight, if I try to root for them halfheartedly, they will win 52-3.

Same for Bills. I can never root against them and mean it.

Alos, I'd like to send out a :I starred in Brokeback Mountain: to all those who put me on a par with that zima-sipping, headband wearing, pill-popping paper shuffler from Pfizer.

That being said, Go Bills!! make it 2 in a row!!

  9. Kerry's "job" as a senator is to represent his state to the best of his abilities, and vote according to what the majority of the people that he represents want.  He's done it well enough to continue to get re-elected, and keep his "job".  Bush didn't, and won't keep his.

    77778

I wouldn't be so sure...recent (this week) polls from Michigan and PA show the president either in a statistical tie or in the lead. If he takes EITHER or BOTH of those states, the party's over for the Johns.

  10. They seem to blame a lot on lawyers, however, they were pretty quick to truck them down to Florida by the hundreds in the 2000 election.  Lawyers are pretty convenient to have around.  I'm marrying one.

    79479

Not ALL lawyers are evil ambulance chasers. My grandfather practiced immigration law, helping hundreds if not thousands of legal immigrants gain their citizenship. He did it to repay America for all the good it had done him.

  11.

JoeSixPack, how do you justify going into Iraq over Saudy Arabia, in which the large majority of 9/11 highjackers come from and who has the highest links to terrorism out of any country?  How do you justify going to Iraq over Iran, who now has nuclear weapons programs running again?  Thats why it wasn't in America's best interest to invade Iraq.

    78711

Saddam Hussein signed a cease-fire with us in 91. He broke that cease-fire. he deserved to go.

  12. If it directly involves the US then I'm all for using our power at will.

    77840

And that's exactly why we're in Iraq. It WSA in our interest to remove Saddam, WMD or not. (There ARE WMD, I believe, they're just in Syria right now.) But he was a menace, and a person who could not be dealt with diplomatically. Force was necessary and right. As for the handling of the post-war Iraq, that's a different story. I think we're being TOO LENIENT. We should have knocked heads harder and sooner, but hindsight's 20/20.

  13. Putin's tactics started way before the children were attacked.  And it is simplistic to lump in the Chechan seperatists or Basque seperatists in Spain or Palestinians with Al-Quada terrorists.  Most of those groups have grievances within their countries and do not target the United States, and each requires different political solutions to resolve their grievances, as was the case in Northern Ireland. Putin seeks political and international cover by lumping in the Chechen conflict with world terrorism. What about the heavy handed tactics the Russians use on Chechens?  It doesn't excuse the Chechen response, but the Russians have also have blood on their hands.

    76156

The Chechens employ the SAME tactics as other Muslim fundamentalists.

    That's why.

That and there have been documented links between Al Quaeda and Chechen rebels, but hey, let's forget that.

  14. So keep believing that if Bush loses the election that the terrorists have won.  Damn we might need to start drawing up the surrender papers. :I starred in Brokeback Mountain:

    75240

I do believe that. Kerry is an unabashed defense dove.

Despite what he's said in this election, he has consistently voted against the defense establishment in favor of social programs.

Period. Terrorists would love Kerry as pres.

  15. I'm in PA, and would be surprised to see it shift to Bush.  The center of the state is clearly Bush, but the huge poulation centers are solidly Kerry. Gore won PA last time because the Left rallied the cities hard. I can tell you that the same thing is happening this time in Philly. I can't walk down the street at lunch without people asking me "Do you want to help get George Bush out of office?" If you say yes, they have registration forms and candidate info for Kerry. It's the most aggressive voting drive I've seen. There are literally people every two blocks throughout the city during morning, lunch, and evening rush hours.

    I'm

    76146

Actually, I think you're wrong on this. I think this year the Lehigh Valley, northeastern PA, the center of the state and areas around Pittsburght will go Bush.

The Lehigh Valley is conservative and Republican in nature for the most part.

The key to the state is Bucks and Montgomery counties. If they go Repub, Bush will win PA. It's possible, given that the latest polls i the state have it at a statistical dead heat.

An informal poll of friends and family I know has like a 60-40 edge to bush.

  16. Floriduh Starts Already

It would seem to me that after the debacle in 2000 there should be some centralized database of voters that maps their addresses to proper polling places.  And if a voter shows up to the wrong place because they're new to town, were redistricted or their polling place got exploded by a hurricane, there should be a way to validate their registration and tell them where to go.

However this is FloriDUH so hey, just toss out the votes, whether legitimate or not.

    Anyone bothered by this?

    75490

I moved this year, and somehow (by the grace of God, I'm sure) I was able to figure out how to fill out a registration form for my new address. If these idiots can't figure out how to do that simple thing, their vote SHOULDN'T count.

  17. And whom we met five minutes before we "hired them" and would take a c-note from bin Ladens hands to let him walk the other way?

    YES.....bad decision.

The worst attack on our history that could have taken out the entire U.S. goverment if not for some bad timing and some brave souls on a light over PA. You dont hire out ANYONE to nail those responsible for such an act, IMO. If I were Franks, I would have been suggesting the use of bunker busters equipped with tactical nukes to turn Tora Bora into an anthill the second I heard bin Laden was there. But thats me.

    76017

Yes, well, suppose Bin Laden WASN'T there?

The point of this article is that there is was and never will be ANY proof that Bin Laden was there, so kerry's accusations are blatant falsehoods.
