  1. Unreal.

How the hell can anyone be against trading up without actually knowing what the price would be?

In other words, the poster is against moving up to draft a QB because they are a dinosaur and is of the mindset of the “we have too many holes to fill” gang.

That equates to the group that always says, “ the QBs next year are better and we should wait.” Year, after year, after year, after decades of no QB. Ad naseum.

Its time to pay the price to take a chance. No attempts has equated to mediocrity.

Yes its a gamble, but there’s nothing that says the players you pick instead of QB are going to amount to anything.

We have selected many busts outside of QB.

Make sure you come back to this thread after the draft is over. I will even if I’m wrong. This is my opinion so will see.

I agree that Allen is the target after Darnold. I just don’t believe Rudolph will go before Rosen. The Jets are taking Allen at three.

I too believe Rosen isn’t in our plans and we will pass on him. Some team will move up for Rosen and hope it’s not the Bills.

You have all of the principal decision makers there in Orlando including owners and GMs.  Deals will be discussed and the groundwork is often laid for trades at these meetings.  Hope they can get something done here.

    Absolutely,

these few days are what will likely decide the Bills direction. There will be strategy to move up prior and on draft day.

Its looking like we may have to wait until the draft. It could be an exciting day/night.

I have nothing better to do and it is far from simple for sure. The Giants will probably wait until the remaining seconds of their turn...

I believe the Giants are hanging onto that pick. I still think we need to move up a bit more, even to get to 4. If the Giants take Barkley then Cleveland will be open to selling that pick. If the Giants pick a QB then we are pretty much screwed moving into the top 5.

  5. The Giants are doing their best to get Cleveland to take the QB first with their loving Darnold rumors.

If you love a particular player, why on earth would you publicize it?

The question is why are they trying to get Cleveland to take Darnold. Do they love Rosen, maybe Allen? Do they desire Barkley?

Are they doing dirty work for a team that wants Rosen who they are trading down with?

Why? Because Beane wants to analyze the QB's first before giving away draft stock. Refreshing to see a GM take a methodical approach for once. Just because the Jets sold the farm to move up a few spots doesn't mean we have to.

He may have been honest with the amount of time he spent with those guys, but he certainly has a handle on who the better QBs are through scouting at the least.

Yes,it’s certainly refreshing. Pegula seems to have picked a methodical, smart team in Beane and McDermot.

If you want a QB, you have to be in the top 5.

Oh yes,I agree. I would do whatever it takes to get there.

I was commenting on your thoughts regarding the expense to move up. The Giants would be giving up the number 2 spot in a QB rich draft, filled with QB needy teams. If they trade with Buffalo they would be moving out of the premium area of top ten.

We will have to pay substantially more than Indy did, since they and the Jets set the value and Indy only moved 3 spots back.

That supposed initial offer isn’t going to do it because the Giants will be losing the value of 10 spots and leaving the so called blue chip zone.

  8. 9 minutes ago, Mr. WEO said:

That's steep.  The Jets got to #3 for a few 2nds and their #6--and they took deep sh''t for that.

I know they only moved up 3 spots, but if they are convinced their guy isn't there at #6, then they may as well have been picking 12th, 20th etc.  In other words ,they get to pick at #3 for a lot less than the Bills would pay for #2.

Whats the difference in value for a team moving back 3 spots in comparison to 10 spots and out of the top 10 like the Giants would be doing?

    That might be the reason.

The Browns wouldn’t have signed Carlos Hyde if they were going to draft Barkley.  It makes no sense to have Barkley, Hyde, and Duke Johnson all on the roster.

This is great news for the Bills!

I think Beane wants to trade up, and he has the ammo, but they need to find a dance partner.  We need to get one of the first four picks because I think the Broncos and Jets are both going qb and and there is no guarantee our qb will be there after that. (I don’t think the Jets would deal with us anyways).

If the Browns take Barkley with the 1st pick, they will use the 4th pick to snag their qb, so picks 1 and 4 are gone.  Do the Giants pass on the best qb on their board with an aging Eli?  Dicey at best.  That leaves only one pick left to try and trade up for, the Colts at 3.

If the Browns take a qb with the 1st pick, I don’t think the Giants can pass on Barkley at 2.  That leaves the Colts at 3 again and the Browns at 4.  I think the Browns would be more likely to deal that pick with their qb already in the fold and Barkley gone.

Actually that is not great news. We lose a potential draft partner in the Giants. The Giants will take Barkley in a nano second.

That leaves us with the Colts.

The Browns will take Barkley 1st overall. I also believe the Browns will take Baker Mayfield at 4.

    Just a hunch.

making this equal out to the value of the Wentz deal, we could:

package 12, our first 2nd rounder, first third rounder and a 2nd round pick next year and move up to 3 or 4....

We would still have: TWO first round picks this year, a 2nd round pick this year, a 3rd round pick this year, a 4th round pick this year, and a 5th and 6th this year....meaning a FULL draft

Please shoot holes in this and tell me its unrealistic....because I am getting WAY too excited

Equating value to the Wentz deal isn’t the same. There are different variables this year. There’s no way a team in the top 5 is not going to ask for our other first.

You cannot use the draft chart in this situation because of the quality of QBs and number of QB needy teams in the hunt for one of those guys.I would use the RG3 year as a more comparable year.

The positives of it are there are three to four good QBs available, but this means they will be gone very early due to what I said above.

There will, most likely be a bidding war. Do not be surprised if we must give up our 1st rounder next year as well.

Its not going be as simple as giving up a 2nd and a 3rd.

Whats down right amazing is they can get to 3 without having to give up either 2nd, and while keeping the second third.

You are basing that on a value chart?

It might work that way on a normal year but this isn’t the normal year. There are a plethora of QB needy teams who will be looking to get in on the sweepstakes. Value will be driven sky high and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if we will need to include at least a second and next years first as well.

Teams will be trying to outbid each other for one of the best QB classes in over a decade.

It will be costly to get to two or three.

Keep in mind that I totally agree with the first part of you comment..

    BUT.

Why are you even bringing up skin color? Why are you choosing this topic to bring race into the conversation?

RACIAL comments have no room on these forums.. they really don't. Why even mention race? what point are you trying to prove? you think the majority care if you are white, black, purple, pink, gold, red?

You say this has nothing to do with race yet YOU SAID IT!

Pretty pathetic if you ask me and I highly suggest you edit your post..

and by the way.. EVERYONE on earth are men/woman of color......

    Enough said.

I’m sorry everyone. I must reply.

I pointed out skin color because it’s been mentioned on this board numerous times in rebuttals that skin color is a reason to compare. I wanted to qualify my statement otherwise.

you then chastise me about this and point out that all people are of color. This is true, but, you have no idea who you speaking to.

i am a man who was raised in the 60s, where we were referred to as “colored” and “people of color.”

Then you chastise another poster incorrectly using the words “race card.”

Get off your politically correct high horse. You have no idea what I’ve been through in my life with regards to race.

You have no business harassing me about this topic at all.

    Here are the facts.

Tyrod is mostly a one read QB who runs when his receiver isn’t open

Jackson is a one read QB who runs when his receiver isn’t open, PERIOD,Got it?

A person compares both and they are a racist,a person qualifies their comparison to state race isn’t an issue and your a racist.

    Are you a millennial?

  13. 4 minutes ago, Reed83HOF said:

If they want to make one more run with him, they need players quickly & don't have a ton of cap space ~$23/$24 million. Give them 2 picks in rd 1, Glenn (huge need) & whatever else isn't too bad for them really and gets them more primed for a shot before he goes and gives them some good talent after he goes.

They are also at the top of RD2 (#34). That is a lot of top picks to get better in a hurry...

It will likely take for the Bills to move up pretty high while retaining either 21 or 22. Package both firsts with a first next year and a player(Glenn) and we might, MIGHT be able to get to 2 or 3.

Its not going to be easy, but if Beane really loves a guy at the QB position I think he can get it done.

Theres no way we will ever be able to get to 2 with the current draft position.

  14. This has nothing to do with skin color(I’m a man of color). It has everything to do with having the same thing in common.

Truly gifted running QBs do not have the innate ability to read defenses properly. They are one read and take off. It’s difficult to teach them otherwise. This is Jackson as well.

I hope the Bills do not draft this kid. We need a pocket type passer or at least one that exhausts all reads before taking off(Mayfield).

  15. 1 hour ago, OldTimer1960 said:

I think you are over-estimating the value of the Bills’ draft picks.

As of today the value of those first rounders are not getting it done and neither are the second rounders.

One or both of two things must happen. The Bills will likely need to trade up,using some decent draft picks from this draft and

    next years draft.

    Or

trading Both firsts and seconds this year, also next years first and other compensation. We may even have to go to 2020 to give picks away.

It can  be done. It depends on how much they value the guy they want. You and I know the other teams are going to pay a boatload,we just have to really sweeten the pot.

I believe we need to go the route of trading up with one of our firsts this year and packing them with picks this and next year.

....my unsubstantiated hunch is that McBeane covets BOTH 1sts, does NOT move up into "God's Country" for one of the top 4 "apparent QB God's".....none come with a warranty or money back guarantee anyhow.....hell, he may even go OL/DL or DL/OL with the 1sts, and look to the Rudolph/Falk/Lauletta/White gang for his "franchise QB" and who even knows what HIS definition is?.......HIS definition along with McD/Daboll's is the ONLY one that will matter come Draft Day.......be prepared and stay tuned............

You’re going to be surprised then.

None of the picks come with a warranty.

Beanes going to try his best to get up into the top 5. He may need to get to 3 to have the chance at one of those QBs.

Theres a reason he took a one from KC for this year and added more picks after round one.

I believe Beane thought what he had would be enough, and I believe he thought we’d be drafting higher than we are with our pick.

Hes going to need to include next years first at the very least because of the number of teams looking to trade up.

I pray he gets it done. We need to attempt to secure the most important spot on the team, finally, and this is the year to do it.

Its going to be the richest bidding war ever,in my opinion. I’d love to be the Giants and Indy right now.
