  1. If you banging dudes, you're gay- that just a fact. I guess you could argue that the guy in top is just having sex, but still, pretty gay. Its was a great time to make a change. Sebelius probably just wanted to be done, there got to a positive point with the enrollment results, and as they pivot for the next set of obstacles, have a fresh body in there to take a pounding for a few years. Sebslius main task was to get that website right and make the rollout go well... in private industry, she'd have been canned three times over- I have never been in charge of something so complex, I am sure it felt likea train ran her over, I empathize.
  2. You know, I might have to change that pic if I continue to deliver these on target, well orchestrated gay jokes.
  3. honestly, I think were just all shocked you're into women.... we thought for sure.....
  4. prior to HCR, if he didn't take Aetna, what choice did he have? Maybe he could buy individual coverage through BC/BS, but if he had a prexisiting, forget about it. I don't get where some stand on decoupling insurance from employment. When Nancy P suggested people no longer had to stay at a job because they could buy individual coverage, Conservatives freaked out that these people would now just live on the dole. But now its agreed that not being stuck at a job for just health insurance is a good thing? Am I missing something?
  5. I am sure you were Naive, idealistic, before that 16,969th post.... at 37, i am starting to get it again....
  6. Youth, even with high intellectual capacity, often produces folly...
  7. Providers compete for your business, managed care compaines limit that compeitition- they often chose who you see, not you. Ironically, when you have a consider dispute with an insurance company, you call your State Insurance Commission for a grievence.
  8. Lol. maybe a little of both, but that is not limited only to Democrats. Obama's ACA to Bush NCLB- I think what we see is no matter the brand of Politican, at least the ones that get elected, there is a general belief in the good Government can do- and I think that makes sense in a truly theorectical funcational perspective.. but in reality incremental progress is often the better approach. Did we need a 2k page healthcare reform bill? No. Did we need NCLB to overhaul education? No. There is just something about the one fits all approach that is so attractive.
  9. There is always a Gatekeeper unless you pay self pay for every service, but you know that- the question is do you want to be dicked around by Aetna where a smaller portion of your healthcare dollar makes it to care delivery, or say your State of residence where a bigger portion of that dollar gets to care? Again, who care who holds the risk pool money in the end, someone is always deciding on your behalf what is best for you, at least from a payment perspective. You might even argue the Red States would be better at better managing Single Payor State-based risk pool that Blue States. Let States fund their own Medicaid, and collect for the general population risk pool- they can let voters decide whow big dedictibles are, and how much they are going to spend annualy on their health system. Really, it put the voters in charge- if they feel the State is spending too much, vote in a budget hacker- of they want to spend more on care, bump up the budget.
  10. They're idealistic that Government can solve problems wihtout unitended consequences or hurting those they aim to help. That is neither gullible or dumb, just a lack of life expereince.
  11. Dividing? Come on, guys. Politics and campaigns are about contrast, is the nature of the beast. The female wage gap is an excellent campaign issue to get young, democratic voting single women to the polls- Midterms usually suck for Democrats because their voters are apathetic because they MT don't have the energy or draw. Democrats are really good at campaigning with those younger voters.
  12. Single Payor doesn't mean Government owns the facilities that deliver care- Medicare doesn't pay for something not shown to be proven medicine, people have a choice to pay out of pocket- happen all the time, and its not just Medicare either.
  13. Uh, yes. What makes you think single payor wouldn't present people with choices? You don't have much flexibility under your current managed care plan, so in the end, what is the difference?? Less expensive, more efficient, etc. private practices were closing left and right, prior to health reform. A consolidation was gonna happen either way, it's no longer small office medicine, it's big system medicine. I see my version of single payer as more choice, and private managed care as antithetical to the very concept.
  14. Ain't that the truth! I see alot of Docs around the hospital talking Equities and giving each other advice on what to buy and sell. I'd like to know their success rate, or if it is all blustering... To me, Land always has value, always has always will- the key is knowing where to buy. It does shock me the people I know who literally have and invest nothing- crazy.
  15. I guess I don't have an issue with United Healthcare doing well, if Health Insurance Corporations are going to be the centerpiece of our delivery system- if they were getting reamed, I would be more worried as it would suggest the ACA is hurting insurers thereby weakening the reform. They do have to take all sign-ups now, so the healthier the better I guess. I still think the Third Party Payer is the worst thing that could happen to a healthcare marketplace, but to be honest, it is better than what we had prior to reform. Its beating a dead horse, but I still believe State Based Single Payor is the best route to go... will never happen though, cause people love more complicated and more expensive I guess.
  16. True- but if you were smart and saved a bunch of cash during the ride up, there was a garage sale of good property in close to the city in great locations to be picked up at 25-50% discount from price highs. So, right now as people are bidding up property in Denver again, I am stashing cash again for the next crisis. The think I like about real estate is even when my property's value is down, in the right location rents usually go up- simple concepts, thats why I love it. I guess its the same with Equities- I know nothing about stocks, but I assume the financial crisis in 08 was a good time to buy up round lots of stable companies that were almost surely to go back up. Rigged? Don't know enough to add much to the discussion here, so I can't answer that question- but to me, for most Americans the gimmicks of the financial industry do not negate common sense, patience and a long-term approach to building wealth and stability.
  17. Meh- its why I put my money in physical real estate- I don't know anyting about HFT, don't really trust the financial system- I do however trust in bricks and mortar in great areas. I guess at some point, stick to what you understand, and trust in the underlying asset you feel comfortable with.
  18. My buddy from college was an officer in Iraq- he was there only 6 months and told me he has seen counseling for years just to deal wiht some of the things he saw while he was there. He think of himself lucky because he doesn't remember his Humvee getting nailed, he broke his arm, ribs, wrist, pelvis and leg and doesn't recall a thing until he woke up in Germany. I don't think it takes much for PTSD- Also, lets wait until the full investigation- as should the journalists.
  19. I know the Federal Government is involved in many things it right should not be, but to see so many specific examples is overwhelming. More than anything in that proposal that Americans should be getting behind is a flat tax or some sort- we just finshed our taxes, owe a bunch yet again, on top of quaterly payments- and my wife and I just sat there looking at the stack of forms thinking "christ, there has to be an easier way"- an easy, flat tax on income or property or consumption makes so much more sense from strictly and efficiency standpoint. The tax code is an abomination, but I do understand a politicans motivation for keeping it status quo.
  20. The is nothing in that budget proposal that blows my mind. I still think we are going in the worng direction for Healthcare at all level whether it be Seniors, the Poor, etc. I am not sure block granting Medicaid is evil, but then again, I think overall we are digging our own grave with regards to healthcare and how its delivered and how it is paid for. What struck me about that proposal is all the things the Federal Government is involved in, and whether they really need to be involved at all.
  21. Sad stuff. If you're goign to off yourself and refuse to get treamtment, at least have the decency to just hurt yourself. What is with this "Ill shoot other people with families because I am messed up" crap.
  22. Premium support for Medicare... Sounds like the ACA. Why not keep the ACA in place, and add seniors? i am sure private insurers would LOVE to have a bunch of high risk loss population. Oh, and: Because Senate Democrats do not intend to even draft a budget this year, the Ryan plan will serve more as a political manifesto than a legislative roadmap for the 113th Congress. Lol- budgets are all crazy and time consuming....
  23. If it were me, I'd just hire one of those Defense Lawyers I keep hearing about.
