As a result, the American steel industry saw a revival. On March 12th, he reinvigorated that action by closing the exemptions and loopholes that had weakened it over time. He was right to do so. A suffering industry The American steel industry was cutting production, laying off workers, and idling facilities because of unfair trade. Domestic steel producers filed a series of trade cases seeking relief from unfairly traded imports. Countries selling this dumped or subsidized steel in our market included China, Korea, Taiwan, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, India, Vietnam, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Japan, Belgium, and France The president’s comprehensive response leveled the playing field. The industry’s production and percentage of what could be produced (what’s called its capacity utilization) improved as harmful import volumes fell. Steel companies invested more than $20 billion to expand and improve their capabilities. Most importantly, they were able to continue providing reliable, high-wage jobs to the hard-working Americans and the communities that rely on them. On Thursday, President Trump signed a big, beautiful executive order directing Education Secretary Linda McMahon to take steps to permanently shut down the (unconstitutional) federal Department of Education (ED.) The final shutdown and elimination of this department will require Congress to act, but the executive can, in effect, reduce the ED to the leanest of skeleton crews in the meantime. To that end, on Friday, President Trump announced that he is taking two major items out of the ED's portfolio: The handling of student loans, one of the soon-to-be-former ED's primary functions, will move to the Small Business Administration (SBA) and programs for disabled students will move to Health & Human Services (HHS.) Maine School Superintendent Likens Push for 'Trans Inclusion' to Suffrage and Racial Segregation As the Left continues to double down on transgender activism, they're continuing to harm themselves and their political prospects. In the last week alone, we've told you about three separate incidents where school officials either forced girls to change in front of boys or punished girls for refusing to change in front of boys in school locker rooms. We're fine with Democrats continuing to proverbially shoot themselves in the foot on this because they're on the losing side of an 80/20 issue. Needless to say, if that were true it would hardly be illegal--Elon has held a Top Secret security clearance for years because he runs SpaceX, which launches some of the most secret military satellites ever built. He is already a key part of our military and intelligence world. But plotting war with China is not part of his portfolio, and it would be unusual for him to be shown information about which he has no need to know. Both Trump and the Secretary of Defense's office have denied the story, but that doesn't seem to bother the Time's reporters a bit. They acknowledge the denial but continue to treat the story as true in their reporting--taking the word of unnamed officials who clearly have a beef with Trump, Elon, and Hegseth. {snip} Unfortunately, you can't prove a negative, and this story will hang out there. No amount of denials will sufficie--who can trust TRUMP?! OR MUSK?! OR HEGSETH?! Trust our anonymous sources instead! Can I be certain that Musk was not going to get a briefing on war with China?
