Democrats, not Republicans, are Capitol Hill's true extremists By Deroy Murdock Vermont's Bernie Sanders is a relative conservative in the Democrat-controlled U.S. Senate. And self-styled socialist Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez of New York (AOC) is hardly the hardest-Left U.S. House member. The Washington, D.C.-based Institute for Legislative Analysis made these and other discoveries after reviewing 58 Senate votes and 133 House tallies in 2023. They then rated lawmakers from zero (most liberal) to 100 (most conservative). ILA figures confirm that Capitol Hill Democrats are almost uniformly Left-wing radicals while Republicans are more moderate than even GOP voters imagine. For starters, 26 Senate Democrats — a majority — scored lower than the 7.14% rating for Sanders, the one-man gold standard for American socialism. Such reputedly "middle of the road" lawmakers as Virginia's Mark Warner (5.56), Pennsylvania's Bob Casey (5.45), and Maryland's Ben Cardin (3.57) are all Left of Sanders. At 7.14, Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer of New York has the same score as...Bernie Sanders! So does alleged "centrist" and former astronaut Mark Kelly of Arizona. Schumer is just seven points from the Left's 0% "wall." Meanwhile, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky's 66.04 score puts him fully 33 points from the Right's end zone and that much nearer the center. Indeed, while 26 senators are Left of Schumer, 40 are Right of McConnell. Many conservatives, not least moi, slam McConnell mercilessly and justifiably for sacrificing the Right's principles an exquisite one-third of the time and more so when it really matters. McConnell ate out of Schumer's hand on omnibus spending bills, a hike in the debt limit, and April's betrayal on border security. Still, if McConnell votes Left 33.96% of the time, Democrats should stop calling him an extremist. The Senate's ideological anchors are Connecticut's hard-Left Chris Murphy (1.79); its most conservative Democrat, Joe Manchin of West Virginia (35.19); the most-liberal Republican, Susan Collins of Maine (a severely centrist 50.00), and the most-stalwart conservative, Mike Lee of Utah (100.00% pro- individual liberty, limited government, and free enterprise). {snip} "Nearly 95% of Democrats score below 15%," McGrath adds. Biden's Delusions About Hamas Continue In case you missed it yesterday, Joe Biden announced a new plan to end the war in Gaza. It's a complicated proposal that would include an immediate ceasefire and the release of some hostages. It would supposedly lead to a permanent ceasefire. Biden also claimed that Israel had "accepted" the terms. Some of you may be wondering how that could happen when Israel hasn't finished eliminating all of Hamas' fighters yet. That's an excellent point. But according to the President, there's no need to do that because Hamas has been "devastated" and they are now "incapable of carrying out another October 7th attack." Why Joe Biden's Hur Interview Recording Was Hidden JAZZ SHAW You may recall that President Joe Biden previously sat down for an interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur regarding the investigation into the many classified documents that Biden improperly removed from the White House over the years. A transcript of that interview was grudgingly produced later, informing the public that charges would not be filed against Biden because he was supposedly unlikely to be convicted, being an “elderly man with a poor memory.” Something didn't seem right and the House sought the original audio recording of the interview, but the White House refused to allow it to be made public, with Biden making the stunning assertion of executive privilege based on "privacy" concerns to keep it hidden. Now, thanks to some digging by Judicial Watch, we may (possibly) know why that was done. According to a release from the Justice Department on Friday night, the transcript was altered with various words removed and significant "clean-up" work having been done to it. (You can read the original transcript here.) Transcripts of presidential records are not supposed to be altered. That is made clear in the Presidential Records Act. Of course, this is far from the first time we've seen the Biden administration playing fast and loose with those rules. We have regularly seen this White House "cleaning up" the transcripts of various speeches and press interviews that Joe Biden has done. Sometimes they simply change the words to reflect what Biden had "intended" to say. In other cases, his meandering utterances are simply recorded as "inaudible." Shockingly, Biden's team went even further, claiming that an audio recording could be "altered" using Artificial Intelligence. That's one of the dumbest claims we've heard coming out of this White House since virtually every appearance that he or any other official makes is potentially subject to the same type of hoax. But this situation is far more serious than any campaign speech or press conference. That interview was part of an official record related to an ongoing criminal investigation. It should have been transcribed verbatim and transmitted to the National Archive. This interview is of particular interest since it wound up being the basis for the DoJ failing to pursue charges against Biden while they chose to bring charges against former President Donald Trump for precisely the same alleged misdeeds. POLL: Trump Verdict Doesn’t Move the Needle on Public Perception of Case By Ward Clark A recent poll indicates that the guilty verdicts in the Manhattan trial of former President Donald Trump have not made much of an impact on how people perceive the case. The ABC/Ipsos poll, released Sunday, also shows that a significant minority of people still have no opinion. One interesting data point is that a significantly larger portion of the people surveyed thought that the trial was politically motivated. Forty-seven percent of Americans said they think the charges against Trump in this case were politically motivated, while 38% say they were not. It's important to note that, as of this writing, President Biden's job approval rating is still underwater; the RealClearPolitics average of job approval polls is 40.5 percent approval—against 56.2 percent disapproving.
