LA Times Owner Killed Another Editorial and Progressives are Worked Up John Sexton Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, owner of the LA Times, continues to shock the progressives who work at and buy his newspaper. He made news when he killed an endorsement of Kamala Harris prior to the election. This move was overshadowed when the Washington Post, owned by Jeff Bezos, did the same thing. Last month, Dr. Soon-Shiong killed another editorial, this one critical of Trump's cabinet picks. This is in keeping with a new push at the Times to expand the range of commentary. Last month Dr. Soon-Shiong said he wanted voices from "all sides." He followed that up with a staffing move that sent more shockwaves through the paper. He hired Scott Jennings as a contributor to the editorial board. {snip} There's more but you get the idea. Progressive just take it for granted that their opinions should always be front and center and subsidized by every media owner. The idea that someone else might deserve a chance at holding the mic for a moment grips them with horror. They fear balance because they have learned to expect unchallenged dominance. https://hotair.com/john-s-2/2024/12/14/la-times-owner-killed-another-editorial-and-progressives-are-worked-up-n3797903 -
DAVID MASTIO: Deporting one million undocumented immigrants a year is much easier than you think. The Trump administration has powerful winds at its back that might allow it to launch roundups and deportations at an even faster pace. Computer technology and surveillance have both advanced markedly since 2009. There are more police than there were 15 years ago and crime is much lower — allowing more boots on the ground to enforce immigration laws if local police cooperate as they do in much of the country, and which Trump says he will encourage. The economy is much more digitized, making it harder to live a life where your identity is off the grid. And there are powerful tools to make the United States much less welcoming to undocumented immigrants that the U.S. has never wielded. For instance, undocumented migrants paid federal, state and local governments nearly $100 billion in taxes in 2024, billions of which is returned to them in refunds fueled by tax breaks targeted at low-income earners. The U.S. could require proof of legal presence to pay refunds and hold the money until the immigrants agree to return to their home countries. Companies could be required to provide proof of legal presence for each employee whose salary they claim as an expense on their taxes. Such a move would hit farmers and hotels where undocumented workers frequently work, as each is dependent on undocumented migrants for workers, and the salaries of which are deducted on their taxes. Donald Trump’s plans for dealing with undocumented immigration are big, and they could be undone by the competence problems that were rife in his last administration. But they are not as unrealistic as his critics proclaim. Read the whole thing. https://archive.is/eoRjM

'Nagging and Patronizing': VDH Lays Bare the End of Barack Obama's 'Mystique' By Mike Miller "Old soldiers never die, they just fade away." The famous phrase, paraphrased from an old Army ballad, was spoken by retired General Douglas MacArthur before a joint session of Congress on April 19, 1951. While Barack Obama, America's 44th president, neither served in the U.S. military nor is particularly old, I thought about MacArthur's words as I began to write this article — but with a significant twist: Obama's words and actions during the waning months of the 2024 presidential election likely signaled the end of the Obama mystique and his role as the unquestioned Democrat Party power broker. But unlike Douglas MacArthur, Barack Obama isn't fading away; he bears much of the blame for engineering both cognitively declining Joe Biden becoming the 2020 Democrat presidential nominee and also Biden being kicked to the curb in favor of Vice President Kamala Harris and her ill-fated 2024 presidential campaign. As author and conservative political commentator Victor Davis Hanson put it: "Obama had long been rumored as the catalyst for the 2020 Joe Biden nomination — and thereafter played the whispering puppeteer behind the subsequent lost Biden administration years." {snip} VDH nailed the following, which I read with a smile on my face, save for the part about wrecking the nation. The Obamaites then got their wish for four years of enacted hard-left directives that they could only have dreamed of while in actual power. But their radical menu since 2021 had divided and nearly wrecked the nation — hyperinflation, 12 million illegal aliens, a ruined border, spiraling crime, a shattered foreign policy of appeasement, the popular backlash against DEI/woke/trans chauvinism, partisan lawfare and weaponization of the government. And the ruling radicalism beneath the Biden facade eventually cost the Democrats nearly everything — the presidency, the House and the Senate. By the time Kamala Harris lost the election in spectacular fashion, VDH noted, "Voters had tuned out a nagging and patronizing Obama — and his stale, now-dated, hope-and-changey, boilerplate speeches." https://redstate.com/mike_miller/2024/12/15/nagging-and-patronizing-victor-davis-hanson-lays-bare-the-end-of-barack-obamas-mystique-n2183231 .

The Democrats’ Hispanic Voter Crash: It’s not as bad as you think—it’s worse. “It’s been widely noted that the Democrats fared very poorly with Hispanic voters in the November election. But I believe that the scale of the Democrats’ crash among Hispanic voters has not yet been fully processed nor the extent to which this crash undermines Democrats’ plans for the future. . . . The Hispanic shift to the right was concentrated among the younger generations of Hispanics who of course are the future of the Hispanic vote. Among Hispanics under 45, the Democratic margin dropped by a shocking 26 points. Trump actually carried working class Hispanic men in this age group by 7 points.” As I’ve been saying for years, the GOP is now the multiracial party of the working class. https://www.liberalpatriot.com/p/the-democrats-hispanic-voter-crash
