I hate to break up the Kate lust party because she indeed looked great in that dress, those legs were to die for but back to the show's meaning/ending. I'm sure I'm not the only one that's made this parallel to this rather famous quote but hadn't seen it posted anywhere in this thread so thought post it.
No man is an island entire of itself; every manis a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

All I can say is wow! Great send off.

Dude...that's exactly the way it is with my wife and I. We both gave FF and V a chance and bailed on both. Unfortunately, Lost has completely spoiled me and I imagine I'm going to be holding new shows up to its high bar for some time. I like a few of the half hour comedies (Two and a Half Men, Big Bang, The Middle, etc.), and I like House, but when it comes to dramas, Lost is going to be the be all, end all.
Is it because pre LOST your life had no meaning? I only ask because I heard Jacob's speech I felt like he was talking more to the viewers then the remaining candidates. Maybe it's just me. Thanks for the confirmation on the Hurley thing too as it proved interesting.
In terms of some other thoughts I didn't get to post prior. It definitely sounds like Desmond and the light are going to play a big part. Ben is the most evil SOB in the history of television but as UConn James comment I love him to death. That said I have to think that Ben is playing Flocke as can't see him killing the rest of the Lostaways. As I can't see him wanting to be all alone on the island by himself. Also what is going on with Claire? Flocke leaves her at the dock by the sub and we haven't seen her since.
We haven't seen Juliet all season. She just has to be Jack's ex-wife, right? That seems to be the way things are leading to.

I have to make this brief as almost out the door but will post more yet on my commute to work yesterday a song came on my Ipod that I happened to d/l a few months back. Ironically enough I d/led two versions and they played back to back but the lyrics hit me like a punch in the face in the second version.
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day
In terms of last night episode. The concert, UConn brings up it was going to be performed by Faraday, in my head it was going to be Daniel er Jack's son performing. Did Hurley mention Ana Lucia by name when he first saw her? Is it possible if in sideworld Jack fixes Locke that Flocke will be broken (ie lose his ability to walk see comments on why he walks)? I'll be back for more.

A lot of talk about Russell being the greatest Survivor ever... but right now, both Parvati and Sandra are in GREAT position to become the first 2-time winner.
My gut is that Colby might surprise some folks. As he's hung on this long and all he needs to win is an immunity challenge or two and let's face it he's been a sentimental favorite for years.

lol, I don't know how any mortal male can resist that long-haired, mediterranean goddess look
Well there are a few men like Tom Friendly who could resist but certainly not me. I hate to say it but right after she gave birth to Jacob my first thought was MILF.
-
I'm glad to see Rupert go but damn I still hate Russell.

Another thing I'll say that I'm surprised wasn't pointed out yet ...
It was interesting to see how the MIB's fake mother had MIB pegged to be the protector, not Jacob. Then, MIB went off the reservation and she was left with Jacob.
Flash forward now and it always seemed that Locke was favored by Jacob to be the chosen one since his birth. But when he died, Jacob had to go with Jack instead -- his second choice.
Read into it what you will, but I found it cool.
I chock it up to recurring themes/story lines. As it seems everything in this show is circular in some form another. I mean one thing not specifically mentioned is that Smokey, like so many other characters also has/had parental issues (see Locke, Jack, Kate, Claire, Sawyer, Hurley, Sun, Ben, Penny, Faraday and am sure more if really sit down and start to think things out).
-
I have to say, I really am going to miss this weekly banter once the show is over.
Just because the show ends doesn't mean we can't have banter. It's just a matter of finding something to banter about and trying to stay focused on said topic.
-
And I suppose, in a way, he was. MIB was/is part of what needs to happen.
"There has to be evil in the world in order for there to be good; evil is necessary for good." I'm not claiming that MIB himself is pure evil and Jacob is pure good as there are always shades of gray but ultimately I think this show might be in part for everyone of us to question our own faith/belief system etc. Or maybe I'm taking more from the show then just the literal characters etc. Which is something I really didn't want to do because I'd like to think that this is just a tv show but the more and more I watch this season the more and more I'm understanding it's not.

again, just like the character said, every answer will only lead to another question. you just have to have faith.
how did mom make it so they couldnt kill each other? she used some magic powers.
where did those powers come from? she got them by being the keeper of the island.
how did she become keeper of the island?... and on and on and on...
it's like they said in my post on the last page, you really dont want an exact explanation. because there really is none. at some point you HAVE to chalk it up to being magical god-like powers when it comes to mythology. or else youre just going to end up with the question "Who is God? Where did (s)he get those powers from?" etc...
Thanks for answering but I deleted that post as my following post again describes my frustration with this episode. In terms of having faith, that an interesting subject as everyone's faith is different.
-
Ack I can't put into words what I want to say about this episode. Frustration because the questions they answered weren't the one's I ultimately wanted answered or perhaps I didn't like the answer to some of the questions. As basically Smokey is Smokey because he was pushed into the light by Jacob. Well maybe I"m dense but what exactly is the light to begin with? Once again it seems Jacob is portrayed as being God like, see young MIB's comment about it's easy to "judge people when your sitting on top of a mountain watching them" or whatever it was. Yet at the same time he was human until pseudo-mom did whatever she did to prevent him and MIB from hurting one another. I'm in the camp that didn't like it as perhaps as was looking for more concrete answers then mythology as still haven't wrapped my brain around this episode.
-
Well, why would he put them on his TV? Thats kinda silly
Perhaps in having his TV wear the glasses he'd be more apt to look at his TV's face then his TV's wang...oh wait you meant TV as in television...

Not chiding too hard, dude. It weren't much.
But, there are those here who prefer to stay 100% LOST-pure going into episodes.... Lord knows I'm not one of them
.
On the whole, all of the LOST threads have been very good in this regard.
I'm one of the LOST purists but what duey said was fair game since it was at the ABC.com website but being I never venture there it was a semi spoiler but not big deal for me.
1) In the sideways flash, Claire said that she had never met Christian Shephard. So, might that mean that there wasn't a car crash and her mother wasn't in a coma? Could it mean a different father for Aaron? It's also interesting that Christian left her... a wooden box in his will. A body in "a wooden box" is what MIB required to assume an identity.
I'm not sure that Aaron's father would change yet it's possible but now I'm having visions of Goth Claire with her black hair and makes me think of Locke's quote that's been used throughout the week's preview of llight and dark sides.

Yeah that definitely would be the smart play, but I really think he's gotten to the point where people just want him gone.
If he does make the finals I really hope that this jury actually looks at how the game was played instead of giving into their hurt feelings over being outmaneuvered.
I think because it's an All Star show they would. As they all understand it's a game, etc. Yet one never really knows what will cause others to vote for someone. As I'm still in awe that Richard Hatch beat Kelly Wiglesworth and named the first Survivor.

There will apparently be an auction of LOST props this summer, to be held in Los Angeles (I would hope there's an online feature for bidding among the plebians...). Linked from ABC's LOST site, so it's legit. Wonder where the proceeds will be going, or is this a way for ABC to recoup some of the $ they spent producing the show (it cost $12M to film the pilot ep)?
What item do you have your eye on?
Pretty cool stuff and am sure all will go for far more then I could ever afford.

Does TiVO replace the cable box, or do you somehow connect them to each other? I've always been interested in TiVO, but just seemed prohibitive in terms of cost.
TiVO's typically attach to an existing box. Yet cable/satellite companies do make DVRs which act as the cable box and recorder. Granted they aren't as sophisticated as TIVOs but suit my purpose to basically record and/or pause/rewind tv and at an extra $9.95 per month it's well worth it.

Yeast Mode
He will rise to the top of the NFL quickly!
Only if Wilson gives him the bread he's looking for.

Whitner and Fitz for Gaither maybe?
Try again. Ozzie Newsome is one of the best GMs in the NFL. I can't seem him taking anything less than a 2nd Rounder in 2011 or likely more due to what we got for Jason Peters.
-
watch the Bills trade our #1 pick next year for Gaither and then go out and finish 2-14 and get the 1st overall pick.
Nix has always stated he's about having a strong running game and building a strong defense. I'm not sure Gaither is what he'd go after. Instead I see Gaither ending up in Dallas when Barron fails a physical.

im just going to keep running with it though cause im on a role... bear with me.
there has been some speculation that the Kwon candidate was neither Sun nor Jin, but their child. Since Jacob touched both of them, it would be their offspring that would be the candidate. It took them coming to the Island to be able to have children, specifically this child. And the reason that Sun did not flash back to 1977 like the others was because she was no longer carrying the child. but i dont buy it, im just throwing it out there.
i also find it interesting that after everything they had been through, Sun and Jin could/would/did not die until they were together. I'm thinking that since they were both a combined candidate, since Jacob touched them both together at the same time, that they would need to be together for anything to happen (good or bad). thats not a complete thought, just kinda an observation.
I'm rolling with it but everyone has their own hopes in how the series will end is all I was stating. I'm just not sure how much Aaron, David or Ji-Yeon can play in the show especially since they're all off the island. The focus of the show seemingly has been Jack vs Locke, man of faith vs man of science, so it just seems to me that it seems to me that it be fiitting that the end up together.

Russell is the man. He needs to keep Geri tight, and pick off Parvati and Sandra next. Then all it will take is ONE immunity challenge.
Russell's done too much damage. He's going home soon unless he and/or Jeri can win immunity. As it's obvious Rupert/Sandra don't like him and now that he's send Parv's right hand woman home she might be gunning for him. I think Russell's in trouble as there aren't many weak minded people left which is the type of player he needs to survive. I think as things stand now I could see Colby, Rupert and Sandra being a final three and prefer Colby win it but it could be Sandra. As she knows how to read people and at the same time take no big hits toward herself. Colby on the other hand has flown under the radar all season but he's also shown when he has to win a challenge he can do it. All I know is I hope Rupert and/or Jeri don't win as both of them have ridden the coat tails of everyone else left.
-
im not sure how the details would all work out, but Aaron is blond haired, blue-eyed (like Jacob), and David is dark-haired, blue-eyed (like MiB).
now the remaining mystery is that MiB states he had a crazy mother. and the prevailing theory on the identity of David's mom is that it is Juliet. so I'm thinking the way they would tie that together would be Juliet being the one who helps (or forces) Jack to leave or destroy the Sideways world, effectively banishing David to a world in which he doesnt exist which is why he is in the form of an electro-magnetic smoke energy.
i dont know. a little contrived im sure. but it sure is fun to have these last few remaining guesses before it all comes to an end.
Yeah it just seems too far fetched this late into the series but time will tell. I guess I have always hoped that the ending of the show will be something somewhat realistic and/or not too supernaturally.

here is a question for everyone...
What about David? Jack's son in the sideways flash. He is (I believe) the only character in the sideways world that does not exist in the original time line.
I ask this because I just read an interesting article which theorizes that Jacob=Aaron and MiB=David. And since David only exists in the sideways world, that is where he is trying to go "home" to. Now I'm sure that will be blown out of the water in the next episode which focuses heavily on Jacob and MiB's origins/game, but either way the question stands... What about David?
Interesting theory and definitely something to think about. Yet it give Hurley more Star Wars material to work with (see Darth Vader and Luke being sworn enemies despite being father/son) yet I just can't buy into it as make me think we've been building to something and can't believe that all comes to a character we knew nothing about until only this season. Not to mention Ilana stating that Flocke can't leave the body he's in. I think in the end everyone will die. Sawyer and Kate end up being Adam and Eve. The only exceptions being Jack, as Jacob's replacement, and Flocke will remain on the island waiting to start a new game since they can't kill one another. I think this week's episode is going to setup how rules are made/determined of the original game and the final episode will deal with Flocke and Jack on the beach talking about the new rules and/or waiting for a batch of new recruits to start a new one.
Trent Edwards calls Jim Kelly Naive

I've never been a big Jim Kelly fan. Comments like that just make me irk him more. As Jim must have forgot how fortunate he was that he got to develop in another league and the Bills were able to build a stronger team than the one that drafted him. Not to mention Thurman Thomas was the difference maker on our offense not him. As the article eludes Kelly likes to dismiss California QBs but he seems to be forgetting about Tom Brady who to me is/was far superior to Kelly as a QB. As in today's game Kelly equates to Brett Favre/Jay Culter. Great arms with gunslinger mentality's yet had he been more of a cerebral type we might have won one of those Super Bowls. The question is will Trent ever get us to 4 Super Bowls? Not likely in this era especially when teams don't take the chance to develop QBs like they did in Kelly's era.
