1. The rumor has it that it will be SpikeTV.  The E! show was ok, but with censorship, it is not different than the radio show.  He needs free rein to be enjoyable.

SpikeTV is network cable as is E! so you wouldn't see any difference in censorship. Though the channel/audience does make sense and I wouldn't be suprised if he tries F/X either since they did broadcast Son of the Beach. Though as others have mentioned if Howard truly wants freedom he'd be best as on an HBO, Skinemax etc but truly don't see any network like that picking him up as it be too contreversial. A station like Playboy TV be his best fit but don't see them picking him either because of him having Penthouse Pets on the show which is in direct competition. If Stern truely believes in himself and what he shouts out, I'm perplexed with all the money and connections he has that he hasn't tried to launch his own network.

  2. Wayne Gandy's best years are definately behind him yet he still might be a better option then what the Bills have on their current active roster. Looking at his career stats he had his best years in Pittsburgh, two of which were while Mularkey was their OC. So our coaching staff should have first hand knowledge of his strengths/weaknesses to know whether he's worth adding for a year or two until we find a permanate replacement. At the very least if he is cut I say sign him and the worst is he'll be a Gildon type signing.

  3. While Ross Verba isn't worth Walter Jones or Orlando Pace money he's a pretty damn good lt.  If you can get the guy for 4-4.5 million a year it's well worth the investment.    He'd soldify the oline  on the left side and it would be one less question mark we'd have to worry about.   I believe he only gave up 1.5 sacks last year, and for the  qb carousel that was the cleveland browns that's pretty damn good.    Not only is it obvious that Verba is better than Gandy,  but Verba is one of the better tackles in the league outside of Jones/Roaf/Pace/Ogden/Tra thomas.  If he can be afforded it's worth it.

Actually Verba gave up 4.5 sacks last season and for what it's worth I believe he graded out worse (67) than both Jonas Jennings (76) and LJ Shelton (69) by espn insider two seasons ago as a point of comparison. Also, if this guy was truly a top flight LT he would never have been shifted to G by Green Bay in favor of Chad Clifton, whom the Pack re-signed to a big contract last offseason. While I'm not saying Verba wouldn't be an upgrade to Mike Gandy, I certainly wouldn't give him a big contract that it's been reported he's seeking. I agree with what d_wag had to say.

  4. Verba wants a new 5-year $38 million contract, which is why the Browns may have signed Shelton.

Doesn't look like anything special, although he gave up only 1.5 sacks last year.  Here's his 2004 Scouting Report  from Scouts Inc.

    Name: Ross Verba

    Position: Offensive Tackle

    Grade: 67 | Key

According to Stats Inc he actually gave up 4.5 sacks and for what it's worth Shelton earned a grade of 69 and am sure is earning far less than the $7 plus million that Verba is seeking. Just some food for thought for those that were against trading/ or signing LJ.

  5. Trust me on this, this is a great show.  Here is a great article/review about it. It's from Tim Goodman, the reviewer for the Chronicle, who is really cool.

It's a good show but not exactly great and wouldn't put it among HBO's best. I agree with Piven's performance and would also say Kevin Connelly (Eric aka E) also does well but the rest of the cast is okay. I'm actually looking more forward to the return of Six Feet Under on Monday yet also saddened as it's going to be the final season.

  6. I still dont understand the need to get rid of him --unless we get a lot. What is wrong with having 2 good RBs??--And a year is a long time in this day and age of the NFL. We should keep him to keep WM fresh and to provide a punishing 1-2 attack.

Henry has already gone on record to say he won't play here again. I'm sure had he not made such statements most here be comfortable him staying.

  7. I dont blame Cruise for jumping up and screaming on Oprah-

Holmes is indeed hot and it sickens me she'd go out with Cruise. Also a word to those that have daughters, you better watch out as it seems the older Tom gets the younger his women get:

    Mimi Rogers: 27 January 1956

    Nicole Kidman: 20 June 1967

    Penelope Cruz: 28 April 1974

    Katie Holmes: 18 December 1978

  8. This is harder than you think. My pick is Jacksonville or Oakland.

Number one, i think Jacksonville shoulda have started the season 0-3  last year instead of 3-0, and that their play regressed as the season went on. If Taylor is hurt again, this team, iMHO, could finish with 6 or less wins.

Oakland looks like they gonna score some points, but my, oh my, is that defence atrocious. Just do not think they will overcome that big weakness.

    349620

I have to go with the Bengals. As although they drafted David Pollack they didn't adress their defense at all this off season which was part of their weakness last season. Plus I suspect Carson Palmer to take a step back ie sophmore slump (I know he's technically a 3rd year QB). The biggest reason I supsect the slump is T.J. Houshmandzadeh had a career year in a contract year and don't expect him to repeat his 2004 numbers. Not to mention the history of this franchise as every time it looks like their ready to turn the corner they turn into the Bungles.

  9. hell bells...the Bills gave a freakin' first rounder for Rob Johnson who only happened to turn out to be Fred Taylor.

i think Ralph has a gun to TD's head and is telling him send him to the Jags and don't take anything less than a 2nd.  (although...i don't see them getting anything more than a 3rd.)

    349615

actually we gave up a 1st (Taylor) AND a 4th (RB Tavian Banks) for RJ.

  10. Amen.

And if only he'd managed to stay healthy....

    *sigh*

    338603

One could argue if Butler did stay healthy we would never have gotten Tasker. As placing Butler on IR we were able to pick up Tasker off waivers and further down the line added Lofton. As Lofton was picked up after we dropped Burkett but had Butler stayed healthy Burkett would have only been a 3rd WR on the depth chart and potentially never held out etc. Not to mention Butler's injury allowed Andre Reed to step into the #1 WR role.

In terms of my vote on the Wall, I went with Tasker as while not deserving of the HOF, Steve deserves to be among the greats in Bills history although I agree Butch Byrd and Bruce Smith are more deserving.

  11. I'm late to this thread, but since I just happened to produce a lengthier top 10 films list for a cousin who asked I am able to merely copy my usual too lengthy post to this thread,

Life of Brian- runner up- I also laughed a lot at this one but I think it might have been the odd company I saw it with (two college buddies who rarely interacted with each other but only through me).  At one point we all laughed so hard we literally fell out of our seats and when we finally came up we had switched seats. It is a runner up because I think there are actually funnier and wittier Monty Python works but the grouping made this one a special film for me.

    343943

Despite being part of my Avatar, Life of Brian is definately a runner up to The Holy Grail which I feel is the best of the Monty Films.

In terms of the list, I've seen 18. A few recent titles that I haven't seen mentioned that would add are American Beauty, Memento, The Princess Bride and Requiem for a Dream.

  12. Some cable companies (Adelphia...) still charge extra for the remote control as well   (my parents pay $2-3/month for the stupid remote).  I'd hope most don't anymore...

    CW

    341713

I have Adelphia and am only charged $0.25 per month for the remote control.

  13. Heh, we're back to this.  Why is it so hard for the DTV crowd to believe that cable may actually be a better service?  I keep hearing the 0.001% or whatever outage factors on DTV, so I'll give my example of experiencing an outage.

April 23, 2005, shortly before Arizona Cardinals are about to make their 2nd round pick.  Poof, the TV goes dark "Searching For Satellite" on screen.  Five minutes later, the signal is back.  Five minutes out of a month isn't bad.  But it's when those 5 minutes happen.....  My cable hasn't had an interruption (that I know of) in two years.

Other reasons cable is better for me

    No hardware costs

    VOD channels

    A lot more HD channels

Cheaper for the number of sets that I have

    No equipment to buy

Don't need to mess with double wiring the house by with splitting DTV receivers and dealing with RF remotes going through walls.

(and I don't even have the cable modem or VoIP service from Comcast to add to the advantage mix)

You can make a case that for some DTV is better, but it is far far from a blanket assertion.

    341355

A few more things that the Scientific American Adelphia DVR's offer:

    Picture in Picture

The ability to watch one thing and record something at the same time or record two things at the same time and watch something you recorded earlier.

Also, if you're within 20 minutes of a program starting and your DVR was on that channel from the start of the program you can use the record button and record the entire program from the start.
