It really is difficult to make any definitive judgements with such a small sample size. Eagles fans ran Reid out of town and he was unable to get over the hump with the Chiefs until he got Mahomes. Now he is considered one of the greatest coaches ever.

I hear a lot of people who are certain that McDermott can’t win the SB. Does this rationale also apply to Allen? I mean he has been unable to beat Mahomes in the playoffs so does that mean he cannot be a SB winning qb? There are a myriad of reasons this team has failed to get over the hump, but I don’t think our HC or QB are in anyway holding this team back.

It took John Wooden 16 years to win his first national championship at UCLA.  He ended with 10.  So there's still hope for McDermott, but it might not happen until Josh Allen's son is quarterbacking our team.

  2. At the end of the day, we had 1st and 10 at the KC 27 yard line, 2:40 left on the clock, trailing by only 3 points against a tired defense that had already been on the field for 36 minutes of game clock.  Given everything that came before that moment, both during the game and the season on the whole, that's a position we would all sign up for.  Injuries or not, it was all right there for us and we crapped the bed.

I would assume they've found a few out in the parking lots around the stadium!

Can't believe they haven't, though I don't remember any news stories off the top of my head.

I'm kind of surprised as well.  I attended a home December Monday night game against Denver back in 2005 or whereabouts (Losman was quarterbacking during another lost season). It was frigid. Probably in the teens. Me, my wife, sister and bro-in-law had finished tailgating and as we were walking into the stadium we notice a guy lying asleep on the ice, underneath a car without any pants or underwear on (thankfully, he had on a winter coat to keep him warm.).  We go over and wake him up and ask him if he needs our help and he just smiles and says "Nope.  I'm great!  Just resting!  Thanks!".  LOL.  We ran back to our car and donated a blanket to the poor guy and he continued to claim he was fine and that he was going into the game shortly.  Eventually ran down a staff member and let him know about the guy and he said he'd take care of him.

Not sure I agree on Williams.  Given that he was a highly touted 3rd round pick, how did he end up at #6 on the depth chart? (Milano, Bernard, Dodson, Klein and Spector ahead of him)

Apparently the coaches aren't impressed enough with him to prefer him to Klein who was on the couch, and who even several years ago was noticeably slower than molasses.

Bernard couldn't sniff the field as a rookie either and the staff has turned him into a potential cornerstone MLB.  I like Williams' raw skills and intensity.  He just needs to continue to learn, mature and become more disciplined.  If his mindset is right, then I think he has a bright future.

Hey donating to charity is wonderful. Power to you…but what are we doing here? I mean obviously don’t be making threats to the guy but now we have to be donating to his charity because he’s upset? I mean it’s a kick you have to make. There’s considerable middle ground between being an ####### and threatening him and acting like we are happy. If you want to give to a worth cause, go ahead. But what are we doing here.

Nobody is forcing you to do anything.  Some think it's a nice way of showing support for one of our players who is getting completely outrageous and uncalled for abuse.

Listen, I'm as pissed and disappointed as anyone that Bass missed that kick.  It's okay to vent some frustration on this message board, but for these @ssholes physically threatening Bass through his social media, I'd love to hold them accountable face-to-face.

For the most part Josh was incredibly patient. It makes his sudden impatience to try to thread it to Shakir right after the two minute warning stand out even more to me, especially with Diggs open

I don't think it was impatience.  He had a shot and he took it.  It just didn't work out.  And on the subsequent 3rd down, Josh should have actually been less patient/safe and looked to run to get us into better field goal range.

  7. The defense has let him down and it isn't just bad luck.  Bad luck is what happened to Marty Schottenheimer over the years with Ernest Byner and Marlon McCree fumbling away victories.  What we witnessed over the last four playoff losses isn't bad luck.  They have been complete failures in defensive game planning and/or execution.

The defense gave up a staggering 8.5yards PER PLAY

they gave up a wholly ridiculous OVER ONE HALF POINT PER OFFENSIVE PLAY

this wasn't some brave attempt at hanging tough by an injured unit, this was a nuclear meltdown and one of the worst defensive performances I can remember masked only by the fact that the offense threw the football equivalent of a no hitter

Correct.  This loss lies almost entirely at the hands of Sean's defense.  Yes, injuries are tough to overcome, but that was a historically bad performance we witnessed from our defense last night.  If we hadn't played nearly perfect ball control offense for the majority of the night, there's no doubt that KC would have racked up 500 yards and 40+ points.

First off, I'm not sure where you're getting 8.5 yards per play.  The Chiefs had 361 yards on 47 pass + run plays.  That's 7.7 yards per play when I math.  A nit, perhaps, but IMO the "yards per play" thing is missing the point.

The defense was giving up 9.6 yards per play up until the middle of the 4th quarter (I know because I was following that stat in the box throughout the game).  The Chiefs had 16 total yards over 10 plays in their final two possessions (including the kneel downs), which drove the average down to a still putrid 7.7 yards per play by game's end.  I know they had a ton of injuries, but they were just god awful last night and the primary reason we lost the game.

We also gave up a horrific 7.6 yards per play in the 13 seconds game.  Sean's defenses have been wretched in the last four playoff losses.  There is no getting around this.

  10. Nope.  Our offense has been Super Bowl-worthy going on four years now.  The thing that has held us back in the playoffs is our defense.  Our defense has been absolutely pathetic in every single game we've been eliminated in over the past four years.  Yes, Mahomes and Burrow are two of the game's best, but we provided almost zero resistance against them in those games.

At one point in the 4th quarter last night, we were giving up 9.6 yards per play (think this was right before the fumble through the endzone).  We were essentially giving up a 1st down on every single snap.  So long as McDermott is at the helm of the defense against teams like the Chiefs and Bengals in the playoffs, I have very little hope of ever making a Super Bowl outside of a GOAT type of performance from Josh Allen (which we basically got back in the 13 seconds game).

And that is exactly why I am so amazed that KC constantly has luck on their side in the biggest moments.

I.e. the Chiefs were “lucky” that we did not throw the wide open underneath short pass to Diggs who had at least a first down on 2nd and 9 from the 25.  Who knows what happens from there?

That's not luck.  That's execution.  More than anytime I can remember, luck was on our side last night.  All the fumbles went our way.  The Chiefs made more plays than us, as they have in all of our playoff losses.
