Honestly, not getting great vibes from Allen lately. Looks and sounds like a guy who is ready to hang em up and hit the golf course. Hopefully he shuts all of us up on Sunday.

I honestly think he's just burned out from constantly coming up short against the Chiefs in the playoffs, and failing to bring the fan base a championship. I think his talk in the off-season about having no expectations is his way of trying to manage that disappointment and stress.

Part of me also wonders if he hasn't been hurt and had his bell wrong more than we realize as fans.

Regardless, and I hate to say it, but I'm getting the feeling that we may have seen the best of Josh already.

i mean...this was the plan as far as the offense goes. it doesn't look the way it does by accident

but i also don't understand people who think there's some untapped potential there. it's honestly one of the worst pass catching groups i can recall

It's approaching the 2011 Stevie Johnson, Donald Jones, David Nelson, Naaman Roosevelt, Brad Smith, Ruvell Martin level.

No one is saying that Davis was a superstar and there were no issues.  The Bills were right to let him go and not pay him 13 million dollars per year.  But the point is that the Bills have not replaced Davis's production at WR either in the draft or though FA signings.

I agree and was just pointing out the flipside of highlight videos. I'm actually looking forward to Gabe's return at this point and want to see him taking Keon's reps. Gabe, Shakir and a healthy Palmer might be a serviceable enough WR corps to get the passing game moving again.

P.S. I just rewatched every Davis catch in the KC game...  So much fun seeing Josh throwing downfield.  Why can't Brady scheme like that?

Couple things: the backend of that KC defense was in shambles (Dan Sorensen was especially toast) and we had a real NFL receiving room (prime Diggs, Beasley, Sanders and Davis).

Is it not strange that essentially Davis and Coleman are for all intents and purposes similar players in terms of speed/body type but Davis consistently can separate on deep balls while Coleman has dudes stuck to him like super glue?

    Actually yes, IR

As a WR4, he could make a major impact, IMO

4.54 vs 4.61.  Also, Gabe is a stronger dude than Keon.

Reading your comment about body language really stands out. Thinking about the Bills this year it does seem like they are coasting and just a mellow kind of care free attitude. I don't see a ton of fire from most of the guys. The positive spin would be this is a mature team now and understands the expectations are super bowl. The games dont mean a lot until you get to the playoffs. The concern is that its more a reflection of the culture, settling for be good not great, life is bigger than football, lack of that fiery and tough leader, etc.

To be honest, I got that vibe while watching Hard Knocks. It just seemed like the Bills were so relaxed, as if the philosophy was that they didn't want or need to be super sharp, focused and aggressive right from the get go. That they would ramp up as the season wore on or something. You kind of saw that in the Bears preseason blowout (I know it was our second string vs their starters).

In watching again, there are some open guys. I don't know what the heck Josh was thinking or doing on that one. I'm watching on my phone, so its hard to make out, but the underneath screen is def available. If moore is the deep one on the bottom of the screen, there was also def a window there before the safety closes it.

Josh right now is not very decisive or confident. I do think that all the blitzes and hits from the NE and Atlanta game, messed up his internal clock.

That's where I'm at. We mostly just shot ourselves in the foot during the Pats game. Josh didn't play great, but he didn't look like a chicken with its head cut off. The Falcons definitely screwed him up though. He looked great on that first drive, but the Falcons blitzes/pressure got to him and you could clearly see that he was mentally defeated by the third quarter. That carried over into yesterday's first half, but Cook was able to bail us out. Josh seems to be hearing footsteps or seeing ghosts or whatever you want to call it at this point. He needs to find his comfort level again and quick.

His point number 8 on Rapp is the key one for me. Got to try somebody else at his position. Honestly I feel he should inactive on game days now.

The Hancock/Bishop combination might be too green for McDermott to contemplate but then you look at the Lions and 49ers just playing the young guys when no other choice presents itself, one would assume that it couldn't be any worse.

Every DB we drafted in 2025 has been injured at some point. Fingers crossed for the health of Strong!

Agree 100%. This season is turning out to be what we thought last year was going to be - a step-back/mini-rebuild where we aren't true Super Bowl contenders.  Play Poyer alongside Bishop to hopefully impart on him how a functional safety tandem should communicate. Once healthy, play the young secondary guys as much as possible. Let them play through mistakes.

On offense, even though he's been underwhelming, keep giving Keon a bunch of run to either develop him or confirm that he's not a real piece of the puzzle moving forward. I'd like to see more touches for Davis on early downs and more throws to and usage of Cook on 3rd down.  It's infuriating that we consistently remove our best playmaker on the money down.

I think "window" is used too much in sports.  It's not as fixed as we make it sound, particularly when you have an elite QB.

Correct. We aren't terrible on the lines, we have a great QB and a great running back.  If we somehow hit on a couple of draft picks that turned out to be elite pass rushers and pass catchers in the next couple of years, all of a sudden we could be a juggernaut. You just have to strike gold once in awhile (off the top of my head: Chris Jones - 2nd rounder; JJ Watt - 30th pick; Puka Nacua - 5th round, etc.) Things change so quickly in the NFL.

  10. How often do these true malcontents ever reemerge as contributors?  I'm not talking about guys with off-the-field legal stuff, but the types who are such poisonous personalities that teams just cut bait.  I guess Antonio Brown with the Bucs, but we all saw how that ended.

  11. There's really no good options.  I thought of Cooks for a second, but the guy hasn't been an impact receiver in almost a half-decade now.  Shaheed is probably the best obtainable option, but is he really any better production wise than guys like Palmer or Samuel were before we signed them? I suppose his speed could possibly open the field a bit, but we need an impact guy, not another #3 or low end #2.  I think we just suffer through it and find a way to get Kincaid, Shakir and Cook the ball as much as possible.

Never thought I'd say this, but we actually miss Mack Hollins as a receiver.  That's how bad the receiver room is currently.
