Years ago, I read an article that showed that yards gained and yards allowed are somewhat consistent from year to year (especially if the same coaching staff stays in place). But, the author argued, TOs are mostly a crap shoot - particularly fumbles but overall TOs as well. If a team is among the league's leaders in TO differential, they can't count on repeating. To say it another way, TOs are as much about luck as they are about skill according to the author.
That doesn't seem to be true. Not with the Bills.
I used to think that way (the article you're quoting), but clearly some teams are better at it than others, year after year. There is a luck component but it's also coaching and preparation.

It’s not better coaching nor any particular aspect of play so it’s gonna end at some time.
I don’t know that you can definitively say that. All teams say they focus on forcing and avoiding turnovers, but some are clearly better at it than others.

He was...now he isnt.
Yes, but it was always overblown because his TD to TO numbers were still staggering. Regardless, it is yet another area of his game he has worked fervently to improve, and it shows in historic fashion.

The last time the Bills lost the TO battle in a game, regular or postseason, was January 7, 2024, in the regular season finale at Miami.
Since then they have won the TO battle 19 times, tied it 5, and their overall TO margin is +33 (8-41).
This a remarkable testament to Allen’s growth and maturity, and probably includes a fair amount of good fortune, but the 24-game streak of not losing the TO battle is believed to be the longest in NFL history.

17 consecutive wins in one-score games was not sustainable, and now they’ve lost two in a row. They are essentially the same team, with the same QB and coaches, but they didn’t get the breaks they needed. If anyone takes them for granted they’re stupid, but these Chiefs are NOT the dominant force they have been.
As a fan I’m trying to focus myself on one week at a time, like the team does. It’s easy to get ahead of ourselves and look at what might be, but I’m going to enjoy the ride one week at a time.
If this Bills team can stay reasonably healthy, everything will take care of itself.

Its a great group of TEs. Best case scenario is Knox takes a pay cut for next season and we keep all three.
Agreed. It’s ok to like Hawes (I certainly do) without dissing Knox. Yes, he had a couple of drops, but he is important to this team and offense.

It’s not reasonable to expect the Fish to hold Buffalo under 30 for multiple reasons. The key to how close the score is will be what happens in the turnover battle.
Something like 38-20 feels right to me.

This is why I was hoping the bills would
make a run at Spillane in free agency. Just a durable and steady LB. I love Milano, but this is insane.
Mickey Spillane?

Can they outscore us with that defense? Look what we did with Baltimore?
On paper I think the dolphins have more talent than we want to give credit for. Waddle, Hill, the young kid Washington, Darren Waller isn't the same as he used to be but he's still an option. Achane, Wright, Gordon, and even Ingold seems to do something once in a while. I might take those skill players over the Ravens as a whole. Ravens have Hopkins, Flowers, and Henry. Likely is getting banged up a lot and Andrews and Waller are even.
Simply put the dolphins have as many weapons at the least.
Lamar is head and shoulders above Tua. I never underestimate a division opponent but if our pass rush can get to Tua it will be over quickly, and as others have noted, how exactly are they going to stop our offense?
And then there is the little matter of Josh absolutely pwning the Fish and the fact we are smack dab in the middle of their heads. They have a Buffalo problem.

It’s difficult to take anyone who uses the “it’s not your money” argument seriously. It shows a complete lack of understanding of how the NFL works and how good/great teams are built.
Obviously it’s about cap space and the use of scarce resources (cap & cash) to build a roster. Every dollar that is overpaid to a player can’t be used effectively elsewhere.
As for Cook’s contract specifically, it was much better than you realize based on your post. Beane did several things well with it, including:
- Maintaining his compensation for 2025. He didn’t tear up the last year of the current contract so it only factored in at the existing $5M+.
- The first three season of the extension are at $10M cash, not $12M.
- So Cook is under contract for 5 seasons, but the first 4 total $35M CASH, or under $9M AAV.
- That’s a far cry from $60M over the same four seasons. A team can do a lot with $25M.
- As for the final year of the deal, Cook will be 30 so I’d look for some sort of rework or a release by then depending on how he is holding up.
I was happy to see that Beane didn’t set a bad precedent by caving to the pressure exerted by Cook and his camp. Holding firm and getting a market value deal done will discourage others from trying similar tactics - rather than encourage them to do so. Great job on this one by Beane.
You’re only proving my point. We let the guys who have to do it for a living (Beane) negotiate good contracts that reward the player while also protecting the team. Cook was never going to get 15M but he got a very fair raise and contract and acted like a professional the whole time, while many fans acted like little babies.

Let’s not revise what was said. Lotta people said to give him what he wanted, which was $15M AAV. Or didn’t even put a number to it at all. It’s difficult for me to understand why those fans get to take a victory lap on this. OTOH, some of us wanted him extended for almost exactly what he ended up getting. I was very happy with where it all eventually landed. He got a little more guaranteed and a little less AAV than I estimated. Beane held firm and did a great job on this one. Kudos to him.
Fans acting like it’s their money when they are arguing over 1-2M AAV for a star player sound ridiculous…as if it would have been the worst thing in the world if Cook wound up with 14M rather than 12M. The bottom line is that you don’t let difference makers walk away, which is what MANY fans wanted to do when Cook made comments on the Gram and then had his hold-in.

Three months. Ouch.
Fortunately for the Bengals, Browning has shown he's capable of winning games. No, he's not nearly as good as Burrow, but paired with their weapons, he can have success.
3 months is a long time, but that still leaves him open for a return in December.
Late December. The Bengals are toast. Their defense isn’t the sort that can carry them, and as nice of a backup as Browning is he’s not going to put a team on his shoulders. I can see Cinci losing a bunch of 31-24ish games.

Most 40+ TD runs in the league since ‘22 (5).

Surgery. Out a minimum of three months. Unlikely we see him later in the season.
Tough break for the Bengals and their fans. Browning is a nice backup and can win them a few games but this likely all but seals up the North for the Ravens, because the Browns suck and I don’t think the Steelers are much better.

A lot of people didn’t want to listen to me, but I’ve said it numerous times over the past season and a half…Cook is crucial to this Bills offense reaching its potential. He is to this offense what Thurman was to the K-Gun Bills. I am NOT saying Cook = Thurman, but he is the game breaker and probably the only other person besides Josh for whom defenses have to actually game plan. He was worth every dollar Beane paid, and we are reaping the benefits. Shame on all of the “let him walk” know-it-alls who once again prove how little they know.

Without even bothering to read the link or the context of his statement, I have to believe he’s talking about an International Series game. Like it or not, those games count as a home game for one of the two teams and they all have to do it at some point. If the Bills play their international game in Canada rather than London, Frankfurt, or Mexico City, who is complaining?
Now, if the prospect of a Bills’ “series” in Canada ever came up again I’d be concerned, but why in the world would Pegula want to do that once his palace is built?

Didn’t see this posted anywhere and I hope it gets back to Allen. My guess is Draymond hasn’t watched any Buffalo playoff games. Either that, or he’s been hit in the head by one too many balls. It would be helpful if you actually posted what you’re referring to.
Edit: saw it downthread. Green is just parroting the “if you don’t win a title you’re nothing” b.s. He likely has no knowledge of Allen’s playoff stats or prior heroics.

McBeane built this team to beat KC, which it can't do, at the expense of being tissue paper against power teams like Baltimore. A lose-lose proposition, at least so far. The only redeeming quality I can see is that they play with heart and get turnovers, as in the Ravens game. Otherwise, the best they can do is serve as a speed bump so Allen has at least a fighting chance of scoring more points than they give up, again as in the Ravens game.
(Yawn)
It’s really irritating to read fans’ know-it-all posts who actually know nothing.

The correct caption for this chart should be “the last regular season during which each team won a playoff game” except for the Eagles, who should be in 2024.
