Cutting Taron Johnson would save $7.7M (including the debt cap hit). I'd rather do that and put someone in there while keeping Douglas for one more season at $10M.

Sure, let’s cut one of the best players at his position — and one who fits this particular defense perfectly. That makes sense.

Until I hear him say out loud "13 seconds was my fault, I got tight and made a mistake" I will never believe anything that comes out of his mouth.

I would have so much respect for him if he did this.

I love when coaches are brutally honest. I truly believe it also helps the players. I was so shocked when I heard McKenzie say that the coaches didnt even give the players any answers for what went wrong in 13 seconds.

First of all, you're nuts to believe anything coming out of Li'l Dirty's mouth.

Second, what if it wasn't McD's play calls and the players simply didn't execute?  Would we "have so much respect for him" if he blamed Levi Wallace for blowing the coverage or blamed the ST coach for not communicating the call correctly on the kickoff?

He has taken as much accountability for that game as anyone ever should.  People still act as though it was a miracle even though we've seen teams get into position to kick a long FG like that before and since.

Leslie Frazier's defense folded like a lawn chair in crunch time.

McD is rightfully proud of what they've accomplished over seven years, but is obviously not satisfied.  I really don't know what the hell anyone wants him to say.

You don’t have to be anything you don’t wanna be. If you are happy with “Groot” and his 5 sacks, that’s fine.

I’m not here to shame fans but I fail to understand why this thread was started in the first place.  By almost any measure Groot has been a “successful” draft pick.  If you are only looking at sacks then I question how much you really understand D line play.

    Carry on.

    I really hate the offseason.

I looked at his list and the Athletic’s list and there are 13 guys they agree have potential cap savings, but not necessarily on what to do. Both ended up with 70 million in cap savings.  They both looked at restructuring Allen, McGovern, Knox, Milano and Bates.  They also agreed on extensions for Dawkins, Douglas and T. Johnson.  Where they disagree on how to get the cap savings was Hardy, Hines, White, Poyer and Morse.  Tompsett suggests pay cuts for all 5 players.  Hines and Hardy may take a cut, but Poyer and Morse won’t.  White may take a cut, but I doubt that as well. The Athletic suggests extensions for White and Morse using void years and non-guarantees (White) to get the cap down and a restructuring for Poyer.  Personally, I’d move on from both Hardy and Hines and save 8.7 million.  Both are easily replaced.

Tompsett also suggested looking at restructuring Diggs since he isn’t going anywhere for the next 3 years, releasing Martin, a pay cut for Neal and restructure for Oliver.  These moves could potentially save another 20+.

Re-signing D Jones was the panels highest priority.  Others mentioned Edwards, Floyd, Ty Johnson, Epenesa (although he’s probably too expensive to re-sign) and Dane Jackson or Rapp.

They also mentioned Elliott at RB and Mooney at WR.

I just spent a good 30-45 seconds trying to figure out who the hell "Hardy" is...

This guy is right. Zone corners aren't so important that they have to keep him and pray he comes back and balls out. They have Douglas anyway so move on and take the $6M savings. Easy call honestly. But they'll probably get it wrong anyway.

Right, because this organization has been an abject failure for the past seven years, making every wrong decision possible.

Time to go into hibernation for a couple of months so I can come back to read the flaming hot takes after the draft.

The "pain and utter despair" of four consecutive AFC East championships is overwhelming indeed...

You're still focusing on the second question. I already said I think he's an adequate back.  I don't think he's "elite".  If you think he's elite, so be it.  That's fine.  I respect your position.  I have no issue with him on the team and I hope he continues to grow as a player.

We're talking about "above average" -- not "elite."  I certainly never used that word.  Is it so difficult to admit Cook is above average?

He wouldn't have reached the conference championship in one season if a certain team didn't have a 13 seconds choke job. Stupid Bills.

If it makes you feel any better, the Bills are really the only team that has almost kept them out of it...twice.

  8. I'm not going to even read this thread, but you're talking about a QB who hasn't failed to reach the conference championship game in ANY of his seasons as a starting QB.

What exactly are people supposed to say about him?

The question of the topic is "What are your feelings on James Cook RB1".  Those are my feelings on the topic.  The question was not "is Cook an above average RB1".  And, no, I don't think he's an above average RB1.

Let's just say for sake of argument that we divide RB1s into three groups:  1-10 (above average), 11-20 (average), and 21-32 (below average).  Do you think there are 10 better RB1s in the NFL than Jimbo Cook?

    1 hour ago, Chaos said:

By above average, do you mean an RB1 who helps the Bills win more games than the would win with an average RB1?

I think the words are self-explanatory.  A RB who is better than average.  See above, and please name all of the RB1s you believe are better than Cook.

would not re-sign him to a big contract once he hits FA

There are extremely few RBs who should be signed to "big" contracts.  That's not particularly relevant to the question of whether Cook is an above-average RB1.  I think the statistics (and eye test) clearly show that he is.

I used to love Farve as well.  I changed my opinion on him when his wife was battling cancer and he was sending D*** pics to that Florida State fan.  Wife is battling a life threatening disease and you're hitting on college women?  He is a public figure, this news gets out.  She's fighting cancer and the embarrassment of her husbands actions at the same time.

Ah yes, Jenn Sterger…Brett Musberger remembers her as well…

Favre was awesome to watch playing football, until Allen came along he was my favourite QB to watch play and now he’s 2nd.

I’m not hiring him to watch over my family’s billion dollar estate, so news of him being greasy with tax payers money has zero impact on me.

     Government officials misappropriating funds… shocker.

    What an ignorant, head-in-the-sand comment.

Being a Hurricanes fan, the last two seasons we have been saying fire Addae, it's just something that he was hyped up as a future DC/HC and at Miami he was just not that guy and he rubbed coaches wrong as well as players.

Go look up any canes message board and you'll see rejoice and laughter that Buffalo hired him.

Interesting.  We know fans aren’t always the best judges of coaching so I guess I’ll hope for the best.  Maybe he’s better suited for the pro game.
