  1. I dunno - its the last home game. The biggest negatives of going to games are the traffic, and the crazy rowdy fans. Less people = less rowdy fans and less traffic IMO. Just going to eat some good food, have a nice excuse to drink in the AM, head home sometime int he 2nd half if its not close, and go to a xmas party at night. Nice little Saturday...
  2. It's entirely possible they watched him, he was ineffective due to the injury, and took him out of the game. I suppose they could have that conversation with him, but in a game where you're getting shredded by the other team you are probably busy trying to think of a way to stop the other team.
  3. Pro bowlers don't get benched for Alexander playing inside, spikes, and humber...
  4. I have a light Xmas this year, just the wife and I. So we're going - even though she's a patriots fan... she really likes tailgating.
  5. Trading him makes no sense - we'd be on the hook for the option bonus anyway. At that point you just keep him.
  6. If we had the 49ers defense, we can win. That was the plan at least. Rex did not deliver on that front. Kc does basically the same thing with smith now. More screens and west coast concepts, but it's mostly just scoring enough to be in close games. I think Lynn will still want to run the ball, as it's a strength of our team and he's a former running back. At the same token u look around the league and see teams moving their #1 receiver all around the formation to get them the ball. Bubble screens, slot routes, mismatchs, swing routes... don't tell me we can't run these plays because of Tyrod. We don't run them because they aren't in the playbook.
  7. It's hard to say because of the concepts they run - and the lack of attempts. Alex Smith was a 70% passer when he was benched for Kaepernick also. In 2011 Alex Smith - a good runner with a quick release was sacked 44 times. Perhaps the offense isn't condusive to QBs... Those teams won 13 and 11 games BTW... with one of the worst passing attacks in the NFL (for all the detractors who say its all the offense and the defense is fine). They won because they had a crazy good defense.
  8. Greg roman's offense's do not pass - or have poor passing concepts. From 2011 through 2016 his offenses were in the bottom 3 in pass attempts, near the bottom in pass yards, and mostly near the bottom in passing TDs. Even with Alex smith BTW..
  9. I'd like to see Tyrod in a different offense with more pro-style sets, route trees and concepts, and a bit of a quicker pace. G-ro's playbook is just filled with formations, but its very basic in the passing game. I'm not sure it's because we had Tyrod, or because that's what he asks his QB to do. But thats me...
  10. OR - you need to not fall behind by having one of those tough defenses like Denver, Houston, Minnesota, or Seattle.
  11. Always thought that guy was a gamer and could play. I don't think he's much more than a top end backup really - but hey top-end backup style QBs have won super bowls before... Brad Johnson, Dilfer, Hostetler literally was a backup.
  12. I think all that it's proven is that you can't win with the #1 rushing offense/last ranked passing offense, unless you have a top 5 defense. These things need to go hand in hand imo. If we aren't going to have a boss defense, then we can't really play a ball control style offense. However if Rex had delivered the bully/punshing #1 defense he promised, we probably make the playoffs. #1 d in scoring - 16.6 ppg allowed. We're averaging 25.6 ppg scoring #1 d in yards - 306.5 ypg allowed. We're averaging 346.2 ypg.
  13. Hate Bortles delivery. He struggles because it takes forever to get the ball out.
  14. It's an overpay for sure - but it isn't the end of the world. His cap hit would be 15 in year 1, 16 in year 2 (the savings by releasing him are negligible), and like 10 in year 3 if we cut him - that we could split over years 3 and 4 most likely. As much as people hate it - its not that bad. If you think he can improve in year 3 under a new OC with a different playbook. Maybe pick up the pace a bit more... use our athletic RBs to create mismatches in the passing game. etc. Also it puts us at 20th in QB spending in the NFL. Ahead of mostly teams with draft picks - or cousins who isn't on there as he's a UFA again (but the second they franchise him again his number blows up).
  15. That's why I'd focus on pre-snap reads, play action, and screen passes. Pittsburgh did a great job against us of hiding the blitz, and spying the QB. You have to beat this by getting hte ball outside fast with WR swings and bubble screens. Use their stunting ends against them. How hard is it to look over and see sammy with a 10 yard cushion, hold your hand up, and chuck it his way. If he breaks a tackle its an easy 10. If he starts cheating up to prevent this, you beat them over the top.
  16. Because neither have any of these guys - http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/quarterback/
  17. I posted their 3rd down conversion %, not their 3 and out %. Sorry for the confusion. My thing is - its pretty clear we struggle with the blitz - especially well disguised blitzes. So we need some hot plays to call to get the ball out in the flats quicker. This is like - not in the playbook for our offense though.
  18. That was 2 over like 8 or 9 years. This is our next 2 - when we have holes all over the roster.
  19. Now I'm going to sound like a TT superfan - but let me be clear. We could walk away and i wouldn't be heart-broken, and we could keep him and I wouldn't hate it. I'm just sort of blah with the whole situation. However that are some things that have concerned me about the G-RO offense. 1 - So little screen game (weve been blitzed a ton recently, and it would go a long way to have a few quick bubble screens to help push back against the blitz). I know Sammy is not 100%, but A.brown makes a living off those little quick hitters right off the snap. He makes you play closer so he can get behind you. Also - some of these are like glorified running plays... the stats count as passing numbers for the QBs, but it really is to just get a guy in space. 2 - very little under center offense (which i think makes for a more effective play action passing attack). The Shotgun PA's we run seem to be PA in name only. Nobody is biting on that - McCoy is often switching sides back there too throwing this off even more. 3 - too many formations (takes forever to get lined up), like no 2 minute offense because of that. Also lots of substitutions for specific personnel match These were all issues in San Francisco under Roman as well - (http://fansided.com/2013/11/14/49ers-o-coordinator-greg-roman-blames-self-passing-woes/). We brought in the coordinator and playbook of some of the worst passing offenses in the NFL - why are we surprised that it's continued? I don't know how much better or worse TT would be in a more conventional offense, but i do wonder if some of the issues above have contributed to the low passing numbers.
