They will lose Antonio Brown, Ben Roethlisberger, LeVeon Bell and Ryan Shazier in a calendar year and STILL make the playoffs.

If this D is one of the best 3 defenses in the NFL in any way other than meaningless stats I'm the Pope.

It's doing better than the offence. The defense is not the main bills problem.

On a positive note I am quite impressed with the 20 yard lasers today.  He made some great throws but seems like playcalling was a big issue when it counted.

He actually played well today.  If we win he gets game ball.  Not sure who watches the games

Interesting. I definitely watched a different game.

Look, this isn’t rocket science.  Some of the best QBs in the game today either sat for a couple of years, or spent their first few seasons leaning on a strong run game.  That would include Russ Wilson, Ben Roethlisberger, and Tom Brady.  Others took 3-4 years to develop.

If you draft a project QB, don’t put it all on his shoulders before they’re developed enough to take it.  If you don’t want to follow that strategy, don’t draft a project QB.  Mortgage the farm to sign Cousins or something.

With a project QB a year/ two years down the line

    - with all the practice and further physical / mental experience the project QB gets, they are of course going to be further evaluated to get you closer to the answer of you what you didn't know when you drafted him -

Whether he is good enough or not. Whether he will fulfil the potential to be good enough.

There is an argument also to put it on their shoulders to see if they have it.

I don't see anything close to Wilson, rothlesburger or Brady at this point.

How many times was Cleveland in Allen's face immediately?  Maybe Allen needs to recognize that better, but he's still relatively inexperienced.  Think the O-line is still one good stud away from not hurting the team overall.

They also are a long way from having a top level WR core.  Brown and Beasley are keepers and probably Roberts for his ST play, but the rest need a big improvement from.

You see I don't think experience will make him a considerably better QB.

How you can play for a game tying 53 yard field goal when the offense is moving the ball well and at least not try to get close with one timeout in your pocket let alone try to actually win the game with a TD is mind boggling to most fans that have watched the Pats do it for the last 15 years.......

But not for old school McD. He is who he is and this year has proved it. Play not to loose. That's why every game has been close this year. That's why the 3rd Q's have been horrible on offense (we are keeping it close so let's not make a mistake, let's play keep it close in the 4th Q). That's his mentality in a nutshell. He will win games (and most of them will always be closer than they need to be), but you will have games like this all the time. That's what a play not to make a mistake and play not to loose coach will get you.

I'm in the Allen not being good enough camp but I take your point about mcdermott at times. Is Allen great with a mcvay type coach? I don't know. With a record like 6-3 he isn't going anywhere though.

I have to agree.  The number of missed throws to open receivers when he is NOT under any direct pressure is troubling. That said, he does have a great arm - not many QBs could fit the ball in he got to Beasley on the 2nd TD drive.

He's got it more physically then mentally basically

Most are saying it is both, but go ahead and run with that narrative.

I don't think most are saying its both actually.

I think most posts are saying its Daboll, there's certainly a narrative for that which I am pointing out.

I am not the most clued up nfl guy but the narrative regards Allen is more obvious in my opinion- we can see it with our eyes. Plays are left on the field. Theres 'bipolar' QB play from one minute to the next.

Regards Daboll we can see the playcalls and will always critique them when they are not succesful. You could say Allen is an easier critique but never be proved wrong with that because we are not in meetings, don't know the game plan etc. So in regards the OC I think its harder to see, with the QB easier to see.

This offense has regressed - drops, play calling, lack of Singletary (8 carries), Lee Smith penalties, zero confidence they are able to score- and I will say it Allen is never going to be a franchise quarterback- what you see at this point is what you get- receiver wise I have not seen a contested catch in nearly a decade ( some sarcasm but not much)

    Agree

    right?

its not that I don’t like Allen. I do. He’s got a ton of talent. He can make plays here and there and I like his running ability.

ive just never felt like he was in control, could take over a game with his arm, or just dominate through the air. Nothing ever feels easy with him.

He can't dominate for more than a play or two that's right.

Give it up.   Play calling was absolutely not the problem.  Those plays were there to be had.   Wake the ***** up.  52% completion percentage was the problem.

Overthrows, under throws, bad throws,  thays the problem.   Dont blame the OC for calling the perfect play your Qb cant execute.

So sick of your excuses.   Allen just isnt good enough.   Face it. Own it.  Devise a plan to FIX IT.

This is the way I see it. Similar issues we had under Manuel, Tyrod.

I’ll stick my neck out and say no QB will succeed in this offense without a WR1 and a top notch RB. When you don’t give your QB the option to throw a quick check when they are giving you a 12 yard cushion, or you run a screen with no secondary target, you also have some OC issues. Josh’s proveit period will be next year for me.  What is he 18 games in ?? Kelly sucked in his first year here and he had 3 years of pro ball before that running an open gun offense. This kid came for a dink program. He is behind because of that.

Sure. I just don't think he's elite which is what you would want for a 7th pick.

I don't see how any part of this loss is on Allen?...

He wasnt good enough to win it for us.

He couldn't hit passes and make consistently good decisions.

The defence stopped them several times and is ranked top 3 in the league. Its not on them. I don't discount Daboll completely but for me Allen makes Daboll look worse by being so consistently inconsistent.

As for everyone jumping off bridges cause we lost to an inferior team, take a look at the Chiefs and the Saints today. Who we are isn't defined by this loss.. unfortunately it's becoming quite clear that unless we stop getting in our own damn way, we're not gonna win when the chips are down.

I'm unsettled because we are NOT set at QB as far as I'm concerned.
