During the Monday Night game between the Seahawks and 49ers, the Seahawks had multiple drives at the end of the game where the were in 3rd and less than 5.  They’d bring our 3-4 receivers and had decent runs on each drive. Moreso, they gave Wilson who can scramble well.

On one of the plays, they ran the same fade route play that we did at the end of our game. Another one, they took a shot to DK deep.

Basically, the Seahawks ran the same type of plays that the Bills were calling that had many of us, myself included, flipping out.

Maybe this is analytics or just the modern NFL, I don’t know.  But I just don’t understand these low percentage plays when the game is on the line and you have other things that are working for you.   Wilson is an MVP candidate right now, so his passes were at least contested on the throws, but still.  They convert on either of those 3rd downs and maybe the game ends sooner.

Either way, it leads me to agree with some of you on here that Daboll does call a modern offense, but it’s not one that fits our talent.

Last night was just interesting to see and gave me flashbacks to Sunday

That's why we have to be careful to run the right guy out of town.

This guy should not be allowed to call the defensive plays again.  Everyone is talking about the run defense but don't  talk about how this dummy is doing when it comes to his defensive line getting sacks.  2 sacks against the browns who can't protect Mayfield this year.  Leslie Frazier is another McDermott failure that has cost this team time and time again.  If shawn did not call the defensive plays in the second half of the charger game last year I believe he would not be the coach right now.

Offence is the problem, not defence.

I think Lee Smith does serve one large purpose.  He's a very good blocking TE, (minus the penalties)  He's a good resource for two rookie TE's to lean on for help.  Likely not needed next season as Knox has developed somewhat faster than expected.

Sure. Obviously mcdermott feels that way. I notice that he's not operating from the 'cutting guys who make mistakes' way of doing things though. He has demonstrated patience with Smith, Boho, tj yeldon, Hauschka etc. Its a different way of doing things to a belichek, zimmer etc.

    At 6-3 OK.

This is why Josh is making mistakes and the offense sucks. Coach McD is a brilliant defensive mind but it’s obvious he doesn’t get involved with the offensive game plan. For him to say “it wasn’t the plan to huddle , we had to” What the heck dies that mean? Don’t tell me Josh goes hurry up and then all of a sudden huddles up. That’s not on the players that’s on coaching. For him not to know why Singletary only has 8 carries and then say we need to do a better job of getting him the ball. Didn’t he say that a few weeks ago? This team is doomed this year.

By understanding defence he must therefore know some offence. He HAS to get involved. He's not stupid and he must be. It's possible theres a string of losses coming due to the performances this season but hopefully we are 7-3 Sunday evening. Lose against the fins and this board will EXPLODE.

It's just not happening.  Josh has shown enough growth and they have too many holes to fill in the draft next year. Allen is your QB. Beane's career will be defined by Allen. He will get every shot to improve this year and next.

But your talking like they have to accept that he will get it. They don't have to accept that he will get it. You continually evaluate, that's what you do. They cannot be scared of their perception.

Is it a difficult situation for Beane to draft another QB? Sure. There would be alot of questions.

    'Josh has shown enough growth'.

    No, not for me.

But what I think won't ultimately matter. Let's say Beane thinks that Allen may not be the guy - he will be bringing someone in to compete. It depends on whether the pegulas want to define beanes career by Allen. In the same way that Allen should get more time, should Beane not be allowed to miss on a project QB?

After 19 games you are ready to move on from Allen?  You have seen no improvement from last year to this year? You are certain he will get no better?

Are you advocating drafting another QB in first round? Because we will be picking in the 20's. Or are you advocating for a retread like Mariotta or Winston?

Please tell us how you would improve the QB play next year.

Wait the 8 games remaining. Then it will be 26 games. That will give a decent idea. Draft a QB in the second or so.

It's about a slow moving on whilst still giving a chance for the unlikely to happen, that he will suddenly be great.

You don't have to cut the guy but it's NEGLIGENT to not do 'due diligence' on each position as Beane says. It's the most important position.

If Josh is so stupid to be sauntering back to a huddle with under 50 seconds and 1 TO, then forget about coaching. This kid might be as dumb as a bag of nails.  I've watched Buffalo Bills games for over 50 years and I've never seen what I saw yesterday with that huddle. I was angry and embarrassed all at the same time.

    Awful. Just awful.

The interviewer at todays presser should of said the fans are embarrassed.

Actually he's not playing anywhere near as good.  He's not even in the same ballpark.  Watch this video.  Hotrod made more good long throws in one half than Josh has in 20 starts.  Had Josh been able to hit just one pass like this Sunday we win.

Yeah I know Culture of Tyrod.  Whatever.

Allen is not hitting those deeper balls like Tyrod here you are right.

  9. Regarding the last drive.

In his presser Mcd says it wasn't the plan to huddle and said it starts with him to put the team in a better position to win.

Could McDermott have been the one who got involved and wanted the play to go to the area where they would kick the FG?

He said they wanted to kick to tie so I ask the question did he get them to huddle and realise that was wrong and make himself accountable inside close doors?

Might be overthinking it sure but he's so Conservative and may have been afraid of a turnover.

You do realize that if we won, they would be debating the greatest goal line stand in NFL history...don’t you?

Defence was outstanding. Not perfect(last drive) but held them to 19 which is good. No way I rag on the D.

  10. The clock is ticking after that shitshow drive. I DO like allen and want him to succeed..but I might want him to start being p*ssed off with drives like that. Get angry. Someone has to be.

There are some things I am starting to question around Daboll's game-day coaching, and whether he is a better X's an O's guy than hands-on coach, but he was protecting Allen there - anything else folks try to pull out of that comment is a reach.

I read it as backing allen

Also, Spend SOME f**'*ING time on OFFENCE McDermott. ?

Not writing this to bash Josh Allen, I like him and think he SOME DAY will be a great QB. The problem I have is the Bills could have won two more games with a passer that can hit the long ball. Can Josh throw far, YES. Does Josh have touch to drop a ball over the top shoulder, haven't seen that yet. He is 6-3 so what do you do about this that 9 games hasn't shown you. Can the Bills offense beat Baltimore, Dallas, New England, Pittsburgh and even Denver. Is this Bills team just a QB away? Can they win this year in the playoffs? If your answering YES than Barkley must be given a shot. If your not sure or NO then stay the course and see if Josh develops. I am not saying get rid of Josh, just saying you never hand someone a job without working for it. Josh's upside is huge if this is done right. He is not playing that much better than Taylor at this point of his career. Tough decision, at this point though I see this season's playoff chances in jeopardy with Josh playing like this.

Hi usabuffalofan, thanks for the post. Interesting read. I can understand the barkley mention for the future games if nothing changes.

When I read Allen 'SOMEDAY will be a great QB' -

this is indicative of alot of stuff fans and coaches say, that he just needs to develop to be that.

I don't have the same belief that someday he will be great, based on what I've seen and am seeing.

My expectations are maybe just higher than some on this board (not you).  It could be argued that Trubisky is about the same as Allen this year.  He's not a first or second year guy, I understand, but it's becoming accepted that the Bears QA absolutely stinks.  Kyle Allen, Daniel Jones,. Kyler Murray, Gardner Minshew, Mason Rudolph (same draft as Allen) are all putting up better advanced metrics than Allen...and I expected MORE from Allen, not to be on par or worse than a bunch of first year starting QB's.  And none of those teams - except maybe the Steelers - strike me as having significantly better talent or coaching than the Bills do.

What we have in abundance is "hope".  I/we HOPE that he will develop into something of a top 5-10 QB, but there is still little evidence that we can point to that says that this could be the case.  I expected him to be an "average" QB this year...and he's far from it....

No guarantee this guy develops. I want more

    Sure.

That's why he should just look left, realize he needs 4 yards, and throw the 5 yard curl to the guy whose defender is playing 12 yards off the line of scrimmage.

    Horrible awareness by Allen.

Don't get me started on McDermott. That's the biggest play of the game. As soon as Singletary was tackled in bounds you call a timeout, put a plan in place and run the play that's going to get you 5 yards, then go clock it. If it's incomplete you kick the field goal.

Awareness is exactly it. Awareness under pressure.

  14. I think

    1. Allen is making a pre snap decision to go to brown.

    2. Allen is worried about taking sacks and fumbling the ball.

    3. Allen obviously he didn't see beasley.

I cant imagine Daboll saying to go to this reciever only, could explain Allen's demeanor in his presser.

There's something questionable about decision making that you are highlighting. I know it's easy with hindsight, I get that but it's almost the kind of play where Allen could do his signature spin and roll out opening up a bigger play. That would be him playing on instinct more.

  15. Winning hides everything. If we start to lose then Beane mcdermott and Daboll will be asking questions. Jobs naturally become more on the line.

In terms of your assessment of Allen, I've seen some of that but I don't personally believe he is good enough and I don't think more experience is going to do it at this point. It's fine, we can have a different opinion on Allen.

I think after 8 more games another assessment will be made. 26 games is a fair amount to make an informed decision on whether an insurance policy is needed. If I was beane/mcdermott and I wasn't convinced then I would be drafting a QB somewhere to come in to join Allen.
