You're one of the few people I've seen/heard mention the re-scheduling of McDermott's weekly segment with WGR-550.

There is zero possibility this has nothing to do with his run-in with Schopp last year.  You know, that awkward situation where Schopp started their segment by asking "So what do you see in Nate Peterman that no one else does?" (LOL!) and culminated in McDermott hanging up the phone on them without saying "goodbye" or "thanks" at the end.

That led to a commercial break and Schopp disappearing from the air for like 1/2 hour.  Bulldog covered and operated a 1 man show, never mentioning anything about Schopp's disappearance.

Eventually Schopp rejoined the show and said something like "Well that was interesting" and Bulldog laughed...and neither said anything more or really explained what was meant by that.  Neither ever addressed Schopp's disappearance.

I think I created a thread about it at the time.  One of the more entertaining moments in recent WNY sports radio.

I digress, but I agree McDermott has thin skin.  He doesn't know how easy he has it in Buffalo.

Most of those guys ask softball leading questions because they are jock sniffers and want to be perceived by the coach as a "football guy" who "knows what he's talking about" and they are attracted to the idea that they are somehow a part of an NFL franchise or at least on the inside with one.

Of that sort, Sal Capaccio is among the worst.

Yeah I remember that whole episode. Mcdermott definitely speaking with schopp off air.

Schopp gets alot of flak. I find him somewhat arrogant but good at what he does, he isn't agreeable.

20%-40% for Allen because I still see growth there

0-20% for McClappy because he is at his ceiling and was just out coached by Freddie “worst coach in league” Kitchens

Browns game was bad for McDermott.

I'm 0-20 allen because I'm not seeing the presence in this seasons games

20-40 mcd because of the winning record

Everyone is clamoring for this, and then they'll be clamoring for them to pull things back once Josh throws some more INTs.

Yes I do think that developing Allen and winning games will not always go together. Its tricky.

Picks are less an issue for me then the fumbles.

They didn't play for a tie. I find it funny some people are criticizing the 20 yard throw in 3rd and 4 and others are criticizing them for playing too conservative. I mean I think they made a good play call and it just wasn't executed right. I don't think they intentionally trying to get a field goal.

If Allen connects to brown and the bills make the FG this whole perception of Allen changes. Esp if the bills won.

  4. Just watched the browns highlights. Less running from allen than the Dolphins game which I think is good (I think you have to see what you have in him as an 80% passer). Good throws in there, he throws well over the middle. The disappointment of the game tends to go a few days later and you see what's looks like a decent QB in the highlights. The disappointment of continual falling drives and lack of 3rd down conversions was frustrating in the game. Highlights do show potential but the game context is taken away. I thought he was less confident in the browns game compared with how he was in that Dolphins game last year. I don't want it to be the case that the bigger pressure game he is worse in. The Dolphins game last year was not a pressure game in fairness.

I think he's pretty football smart and he's not a dumb individual.  He hasn't by any means mastered reading a defense, he still looks tentative at times in the pocket, like he's unsure.  Other times he does not. That's expected at this point.

My main concern for him is accuracy.  It was the biggest question coming out of college.  Can he deliver the ball accurately to receivers?  When I say accurately, I mean hitting guys in stride with good ball placement for YAC.  At the end of the day that is what racks up yards and leads to big plays.

I can see the accuracy issues. I know he scored high in the wonderlic test. I don't know how football intelligent he is, he seems more of an instinctive Tyrod/ Newton player to me than a manning/Brady type in terms of his football intelligence.. More athletic than cerebral on the field.

Yesterday there was a thread about coaching philosophy similarities McD and Jauron share.  Well, it terms of public relations, McD far surpasses DJ as evidenced the HC's team message today  Of course this is going to come out via Chris Brown and not coincidentally it's timed precisely to address an issue highlighted on TBD.

Because the HC has been criticized for coaching not to lose and avoiding risks in high pressure situations.  DJ and/or Bills media would never do anything like this to blunt any team or HC criticism.

There's an interesting thing with Mcdermott that somehow as a leader he listens. Not sure if players aired their thoughts but I think it's a good message, especially for allen.

Best thing for Allen is that he can throw a few picks without being condemned. Not necessarily the best for the teams score but I think it's the best message for Allen's development to trust himself.

Jerry Sullivan is a narcissist.  Guy has always tried to make everything about him instead of the Bills.  Always asks stupid questions for attention.

I know what you are saying. Mike schopp too?

I do think there needs to be people who will be somewhat 'provocative' in their opinions and they are entitled to them.

I get more frustrated listening to John Murphy personally than schopp or Sullivan. I don't always want a positive spin put on bills talk.

No matter how much disdain you show for what the average fan sees, at the end of the day, bad players can't outrun their critics.    The conversations surrounding Allen are very similar to EJ, who also had a promising start.

When Allen can show that he can read a defense and defeat a blitz, then the converstations will end.

Genuine question: how football smart do people think Allen is? Has he developed his reading of defenses?

If only Tyrod could help us win games in the 4th quarter instead of folding like a cheap suit.

I do agree with where your going in this. Allen separates himself from Tyrod with those comebacks. I really wanted to see one against the browns. I don't put the last drive on him so much actually. The rest of the game was the problem.

Name me a GM & Coach who screwed up on a Round 1 QB and remained long term .. doesn't happen.

The reason you draft a top 10 pick QB is your team sucks/sucked ... if your team still sucks 1-2-3-4 years later ... you're dumped.

    It's Year 2 .. R-E-L-A-X .... read below on 4th Quarter Comebacks ...  I'll take that all day long!

The other statistic that stamps Allen as a winner is his number of fourth-quarter, game-winning drives. Over the past two seasons, Allen has directed six game-winning drives, according to Pro Football Reference, tying him for second in that category with Russell Wilson. Only Drew Brees has more, with eight.

I'm quite confident Allen doesn't have it. I'd like him to but don't think he has.

Your talking like mcdermott and Beane have to be resigned to the fact that if Allen doesn't pan out they go - not necessarily. If they draft an insurance policy it would be an intelligent decision.

you do know he is a young project qb without a true number one receiver, and questionable play calling

Yes. But I want an elite QB.

Ten coins on Allen for one more full season (2020). If he still is average at best, find someone else (not an easy find). He really looks like Tannehill or Mariota or one of those very average guys who can win with a lot of help. But he doesn't look like Big Ben or Rivers did in first two seasons. A third season will confirm if he's going to be any better than frighteningly average.

Should there not be someone here waiting in the wings should he not show it?

Are you saying he doesn't look as good as big Ben or rivers in their first two seasons?

I agree in regards mariota/ tannehill etc

Allowing Cleveland to MARCH down the field to start the game and end the game is a complete failure on his part

Not scoring more than 14 points against a a badly coached team is the bigger failure I think. Look at the last offensive drive.

They were held to 19 points. That's good enough to win.

A team with Mayfield,  Beckham, Landry and chubb can always lead scoring drives.
