  3. Nice post. Accurate. I'm kind of a Jefferson nut. What would be really neat, and valuable, would be to get a copy of the original Declaration drafts wherein he condemned the slave trade. That proposition was cast aside because it was thought that unanimity was more important, and it was thought that some wouldn't sign it with that provision.

  7. I'm told they survived the initial explosion and separation. 3 or 4 g's would be meaningless. Above 7 and you start dealing with issues. Normal Shuttle launch was about 3. Not a big deal. I have a few friends of friends who were involved in other flights. I'm told the thing shook like crazy at liftoff.
  8. I know you did. Just wanted to make the point that categorizations of weapon system readiness are grossly different in peacetime than in war, and often done for budget reasons. We used to have three classifications; fully mission capable, mission capable and airworthy. Big difference in numbers, and a lot of creativity goes on in those numbers. If you want parts priority you do one thing. If you want to pound your chest, you report another.
  9. Apollo command module had much less room than the shuttle, so not an option. Not a big deal at all. Bad part is, I'm told, when Challenger blew up, the flight deck area survived for a bit. Not a pleasant situation.
  10. My only comment is that when discussing these things, you have to be a ware of the definition of terms. In this instance, the Eurofighter aircraft "technical glitch" refers to a problem with the cooling system used to support a wing mounted defensive warning system. While that may technically cause them to categorized as not fully "mission capable," they could certainly go without it if needed. There are a number of classifications used by various forces, fully mission capable, mission capable etc. One has to dig into the definitions in order to fully understand what the real situation is, and there is always attempts to report things with budge as motivation, and wartime rules are way different. The Russians and Soviets before them constantly harp on the lack of availability of what they think are overly complicated US airplanes. In a conflict, things would change dramatically. The US has some serious issues as well. When Hurricane Harvey struck SE Texas lst year, only 28 of the 99 T-45 trainers at Kingsville Naval Air Station were deemed airworthy to fly off and avoid the storm. The remainder were hangared or otherwise rode it out. No damage, but not a good sign.
  11. The Federal Reserve is independent, and has three mandates. 1. Maximizing employment. US jobless rates are at historic lows. 2. Price stabilization. Inflation rates are low and not an issue at all. 3. Moderating long term interest rates. Anybody can look at at a chart of the long bond over the past 30 years and see the trend. What banks do with their assets is their own business, and governed by market forces, not the Fed.

Any self proclaimed "CFA" that claims, in the context of this thread, that hedge fund managers can "leverage the heck out of small price movements in oil, the dollar etc.," is ignorant. None of that has anything to do with the ways one could have made money with very little risk if the event was known.

You are not at all knowledgeable about markets or the ways to potentially make money off a single event. One would have to be ignorant to buy defense stocks to profit off of this. There are many other "options" that would be far more profitable, involve less risk and provide profit percentages that dwarf anything involving a defense stock purchase. You are not that bright. Not bright about what happened that day. Not bright about the work and research into it and the conclusions that work provided, and certainly not about markets.

He was one of many kids. His passport was revoked and there is no doubt about his origin, history or dispute with the Saudi Royal family. None.

Though it doesn't focus on bin Laden it lays faultless research on the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan; who was dealing with who, and how this all got started. You are posting absolute nonsense.
