  1. Any idea the source of the rumors? I don't put much stock in unfounded stuff, but would hate to draft Billy Jo Hobart at #3.

That came from an NFL scout I believe. Not exactly sure where I read this but know that I did. The rumor is obviously not confirmed. But the fact, that a rumor like that exists, is still off putting.

  2. Dude has been doing this for a few years against the very best competition in the nation. He's got IT. He's gonna be a very good NFL QB. No doubt he will get drafted in the #3 - #10 slot in round 1 (assuming he and Luck both come out).

There are concerns regarding his work ethic and rumors swirling around that Mallett absolutely hates watching game film

  3. darn it.....

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- If Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck decides to enter the 2011 draft, the Carolina Panthers will take him, two high-ranking team officials said Tuesday.

A redshirt sophomore, Luck finished his season in Monday night's Discover Orange Bowl and has until Jan. 15 to declare if he will enter the draft. Although there have been reports indicating Luck may choose to stay in college, the Panthers remain optimistic he will turn pro.

Luck is viewed as the top prospect in the country by most draft analysts and the Panthers don't disagree with that assessment. The team officials said they wouldn't even consider trading down in the draft if Luck is available.

Can we move on from this Luck stuff? He's going #1. We will not get him. It's time we put on a clean pair of shorts and end this wet dream.

  4. If you think Cam Newton will fail in the NFL or wont be able to adjust to playing at the NFL level and that Luck/Mallet is ANY less of of gamble. Its obvious to me you don't watch college football. If anyone wants to name the other football players who are 6'6" 250 with a rocket arm and runs 4.5 40? go ahead.

-He has yet to prove he can go through multiple progressions consistently.

-He has yet to prove he can be a pocket passer.

    -He has absolutely terrible footwork.

-He only throws 19 passes a game.

-He only has 1 year of major college experience as a starter.

-He has yet to show that he can play from under center and take 3, 5, and 7 step drops.

    -He has character concerns.

Cam Newton is an intriguing prospect. However, there are just too many things that scare me away from him. He has amazing size and athleticism but can he run an NFL offense? Can he stay in the pocket and dissect a defense? Will he associate himself with the wrong people after getting paid? I trust Chan and Buddy to make good decisions. And who knows, maybe Cam blows everyone away at the combine and during interviews and works extremely hard at the next level. Until then, consider me skeptical.

  5. There has been a trade, the Buffalo Bills have traded their first round draft selection in the 2011 draft for the Minnesota Vikings first and second round draft selections in the 2011 draft. Buffalo has also acquired Minnesota's 3rd round pick in the 2012 draft. With the third pick in the 2011 NFL Entry draft the Vikings select Ryan Mallett, QB Arkansas.

With the twelve pick in the 2011 NFL entry draft, the Buffalo Bills select Ryan Kerrigan, OLB/DE Purdue.

I would cry out of pure hate.

  6. I think Williams is the big question because while he was our best Defensive player hist best fit isn't at NT or 3-4 DE.

If I'm going 3-4 then I'm finding a big NT like Paul Soliai and I'm going for Lamarr Woodley I'm taking Dareus or Fairley, and I'm looking for a trade for Kyle Williams.

Which is why I say we trade him while his value is at its highest. We can get draft picks or fill a player need with him. We have Troup waiting in the wings who is a legit 3-4 NT. We also have Carrington who is strictly a 5 tech. I like Kyle and the season he's had for us, but he's just not a good fit for what we're looking to do with this defense.

  7. Before we have a real clear idea of who we should draft we have to know the following

    1. are the Bills going 3-4 or 4-3

if your going 4-3 Bowers as a DE with Troup and Williams as DTs seems to make the most sense, or you could go Fairley as a DT and move Merriman to DE

IF you make the decision to go 3-4 then Dareus or Fairley both make sense but you have to find a real NT and make a decision on Williams as a 3-4 DE

the problem is whichever way you go you're going to have 2-4 players who are less than perfect fits

Overall I like the Carrington, Williams, Fairley, Merriman DL but here are some others

    Carrington, Williams, Troup, Bowers

Williams, Big NT like the guy from Miami, Fairley or Dareus

Williams traded Carrington, Big NT, Fairley or Dareus

    Carrington, Williams, Fairley or Dareus

I'd venture a guess that Merrimen means we will continue our transition to a 3-4. We ran a hybrid this season because we simply did not have the proper personnel.

  8. Trade down and compile more picks!!! We should be looking to increase value in this draft as often as possible by getting more picks and/or veteran starters in trade for our picks.

Cam makes me nervous. I can see him and Mallett being available several picks below #3 where we could trade down and still pick one of them up plus added value from the trade down.

I say we pass on QB in the first 2 rounds if Luck isn't there for us at #3 and go D early and often. Only exception is if Cam/Mallett slip below their expected draft position and are a value pick in either of the first 2 rounds.

Trading down is much harder than people make it out to be. Also, it's not often that a team gets a top 3 pick and a chance to get elite level talent. I also don't think Nix likes to trade down unless it was a can't pass opportunity (which they rarely are).

  9. Only one year of experience in a major college program.

    Off the field issues.

Can he adjust to the speed of the NFL?

Can he read defenses and go through progressions?

This kid is a project at QB so I would be pretty devastated if we did take him at 3. We have so many holes that we need to fill and there's absolutely no reason why we can't take a need like Dareus at 3 and pick up a guy like Gabbert or Locker in round 2. Guys like Newton and Mallett have too many character concerns for my liking.

  10. Bowers is going to be a special kind of bust with all of the hype he's getting. The kid was the #1 player coming out of high school. Went through the motions for his first couple of years at Clemson. Had 1 breakout year and now everyone thinks he's going to be some elite pass rusher in the NFL. He doesn't look overly explosive. Doesn't look to have an arsenal of pass rushing moves.

Am I missing something here? This kid looks very raw still.
