  1. No matter how we look at it.... I believe Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey have decided to take a outstanding LB by the name of Von Miller...In a interview after the Senior Bowl Miller said, he is presently 233 lbs..He said his playing weight was 237 lbs during the season.... He also said he can easily go to 245 lbs... He spoke intelligently... Every article I have read says he is a very gifted athlete. He can cover running backs and TE's in passing situations or he can go get the QB with the best of them and stop the run. (Maybin was a one year wonder, but Miller is'nt... Mabin is a weak 232 lbs) Remember Schobel played at 240 lbs and was very strong.

This is why I believe the Bills select Von Miller with their first pick.....

I don't think putting on more weight would be a problem for Von Miller. The problem would be whether he can put on the weight and still keep his speed and explosiveness. If he shows up to the combine 10 pounds heavier and still shows that he has the same speed and explosiveness, then we may be on to something here.

  2. Fitz is smart. However, countless times I have seen lock on to his receiver. His decision making is also a big concern due to him being a pseudo gun slinger. I love the way he's a competitor and how he can help keep us in games. However, I just don't see us getting far with him at QB. Not without a top defense, that is.

  3. #1. Marcell Dareus was really a one-year wonder at Alabama who only started 4 other games in his entire collegiate career prior to last season! Wasn't Aaron Maybin a one year wonder at his college position?

He has more than one year of productive college football (especially in the SEC and in Bowl games where he shows up for the big games). It's not like he came out of nowhere this season (Fairley) and started producing. His numbers from his sophomore season are basically identical to his junior season.

#2. Marcell Dareus is entering the draft after his junior season..Did Aaron Maybin come out after his junior

    season?

Are you seriously using this as part of your argument?

#3. Marcell Dareus also was suspended for 2 games last season for receiving improper benefits from agents...Just

gives me red flags of the potential for other future criminal/moral impropriaties.

He received two trips to Miami totaling under $2,000 which he paid back to a charity. He mad a mistake, took the punishment and moved on. Does this mean that he'll get arrested for smuggling cocaine? For all we know, this is only hiccup on his record and he'll be a little angel for the rest of his career. I don't see it being that big of a deal.

#4. M. Dareus is ranked between the 2-4 best DT in the upcoming draft and will not be in the words of Buddy Nix

(Best Player available at pick #3.) He is rated by fftoolbox.com as the #6 pick in the draft, and I believe

that is a slight reach as I have him at #10. If the Bills feel like he is the pick, they could trade down to

pick #8 or possibly lower and still get him while picking up some extra picks, but personally I don't want

him as this has to be a sure pick! (as sure as one can be that is!).

For the record, Dareus was productive as DT and DE in Alabama's hybrid defense. It's also amazing how you know the grade Nix is going to give Dareus. For all we know he very well could be BPA at #3. Just because fftoolbox has him at #6 doesn't mean that's how every scout & GM will see him. And how often are there ever any sure picks in the draft? Any player can bust regardless of where they were taken.

#5. M. Dareus is a little stocky and is 2" shorter than Fairley and at least 1" shorter than Bowers. Doesn't

sound like much, but than often means a shorter wing span, possibly shorter arms etc. To be the best, size

at the position of DE/DT counts!

It counts to an extent. But there are plenty of players with prototypical size and measureables that fall flat on their face and don't produce. Being an inch or two shorter than Fairley or Bowers isn't a strong argument since neither of them have played a single down in the NFL. Possibly shorter arms? You're really grasping at straws aren't you?

So what do you think is Marcell Dareus worth surrendering our 3rd pick in the 2011 NFL Draft? My answer is

he has great upside, but is high-risk, therefore my answer is a resounding NO!

News flash, guys like Fairley and Bowers are also high risk, high reward players as well...

A couple of years ago I was saying that Aaron Maybin was a high risk pick that

I would not approve of because of some of the same reasons! I was devastated when the Bills passed on Bray Orakapo. History often repeats itself...(especially in the Bills organization!!!) The pick I fear the most is the pick I believe the Bills will make..Mark my word!!!

    Good for you

Tell me what you think as I'd love to get your prospective on Dareus and the Players I mentioned at the

    beginning of this post.

I think this whole post is contradictory. You basically start off by discrediting the draft analysts that have us picking Dareus at 3, yet you use another draft analyst site to back up your argument? I wouldn't mind if we drafted Dareus at #3. He fits an immediate need and could be a Pro Bowler for years to come. His versatility also helps with the defense we'll be running until we have the personnel to fully be a 3-4 team. There are a few different options that we can go with the 3rd pick and he's certainly one of them.

  4. Aside from the Wildcard game against the Eagles, Starks hasn't been good. Take away his 23 carries and 123 yards from that game and Starks is averaging 15 carries for 48 yards on the ground with 3.2 yards per carry. I mean....seriously?

  5. 1. You're assuming that I'm basing my evaluation of Castonzo solely upon his performance in the senior bowl. Wrong.

Not entirely. But it's pretty obvious that the Senior Bowl played a part in your opinion to the point where you said you wouldn't touch him even if he fell to the 2nd round.

    2. My opinion of Castonzo, is just that....my opinion. There is no justification for you to "insult my intelligence" just because your opinion differs.

Once again, your opinion on saying you wouldn't touch an obvious 1st round talent and future franchise LT in the 2nd round (if he even fell that far) is an unintelligent statement. I never said you weren't entitled to your opinion. I was just merely pointing out how absurd your opinion was.

    3. What the hell does drafting Maybin instead of Orakpo have to do with my opinion of Castonzo? It's not my fault that the Bills drafted Maybin.

Once again, you stating that you wouldn't even touch Castonzo in the 2nd round is some kind of "We're the Bills and we're smarter than everyone else" type of thinking that has lead this team to draft some pretty craptastic players over the years.

    4. I think you're in love with this Castonzo guy.

    Not really.

    5. I suspect that the narcissistic tone of your posts evidences some type of repressed emotional pain. Just because you were a pizza-faced nerd in high school, and you're still a virgin, doesn't give you the right to berate people on internet message boards. Go beat your dog or something

The irony of this last point (if you could even call it that) is funny. I can't imagine why anyone would question your intelligence after such an ignorant statement. Kudos.

  6. Go ahead and give it a shot Mr. Pretentious A%&hole. Was it my misspelling of Anthony Castonzo's name, or my assessment of his draft potential? Since you're such an expert, then tell me what is so silly about my opinion.

BTW...I have noticed several of your posts where you chide people for misspelling player's names. Do you have a compulsive need to feel superior to other people, or are you just a stickler for spelling? I suspect the former.

There seems to be a common theme around here lately, where people are evaluating players based on what they saw at the Senior Bowl practices/game. It's rather annoying when people praise players that they want the Bills to draft, yet don't even know their names. Castonzo has been given a 1st round grade this entire season and all of a sudden you say you wouldn't even touch him with our 2nd round pick? That in and of itself is what's so silly about your opinion. Kind of like how Orakpo fell to our pick and our management decided they were too smart and went with Maybin.

And just for the record, I have a compulsive need to feel superior and be a stickler for spelling.

  7. I wouldn't be so sure bangarang. Although Costonzo was rated as one of the top OT prospects at the beginning of the season, his draft stock has steadily declined over the course of the season. This, couple with a horrendous performance at the senior bowl, may knock him out of the 1st round. Personally, based on what I've seen from him, I wouldn't touch him if he were available in the 2nd.

I want to respond to this post without insulting your intelligence. But I just don't think I can.

  8. My wish list:

1st pick - Fairly, Dareus or Bowers. As much as I want a QB, the D line needs the most help.

2nd pick - It would be nice to be able to get Cam Newton but we would most likely have to make a trade to get back into the first round. I might be willing to give up our 2nd round pick and one of our 4th round picks to trade up to get him but it takes 2 to trade like that. If we can't get Newton then I might go with Castana if available or back to a Defensive player, a DT or LB.

3rd pick - If we don't get Newton as stated above I would like Kaepernick or Mallett here. I was a huge Mallett fan but now like Newton and Kaepernick more but would be happy with any of them at this point. I don't like Ponder or Locker. I hope we keep Levi and let Brohm go but am going to trust Chan to make the best call here. If we are able to get Newton, I would want to add an OT or OG here.

4th pick - Add another LB.

5 - 7 We can look at a big & tall TE with good hands (I still like Andre Smith from VT) then the rest of the picks on D.

I'm not being too specific on a lot of these but there are just a few names that I would actually buy a jersey for, if drafted by the Bills. For example, Jordan would be another great addition to the Bills.

LOL @ Castana...Seriously people. It's Anthony Castonzo and no, he won't make it out of the 1st round. LOL @ Mallett even being available in the 3rd round.

  9. NIx said we are 3-4 and Chan said we are Hybrid. We will be playing both.

U must of been one of those guys that wanted Maybin over Orakpo. I like Von Miller intensity but with hus size he can be another Maybin. it`s just scary dude. As far as Fairley and Bowers go i would rather have them then Quinn also

We're playing a hybrid because a lot of the players we have are geared towards a 4-3. We'll predominantly be a 3-4 team with some 4-3 packages. Quinn isn't BPA at #3 and may not be a good fit for a 3-4. Let's use the #3 pick on a guy who played in a 4-3 in college, wasn't as dominant as people make it seem, and was suspended all of last year. Am I missing something here?

And I love how you resort to trying to insult me instead of actually trying to respond to my argument. I must be one of those guys who wanted Maybin over Orakpo? Exactly what point are you trying to make with that statement?

  10. Nobody said Quinn is a 3-4 End

Nix already stated we're staying 3-4 and he's drafting for 3-4. Therefore, Quinn would have to play OLB. Can he drop into coverage? Can he play the run? He's an athletic freak but you don't take a player at #3 who was suspended all of last year when there are other players who produced last year where you know exactly the kind of player you'll get. Quinn wouldn't even be BPA at 3 either. Logic indicates we're not picking Quinn at 3.

  11. Nobody is a finished product coming out of College, that`s what coaches are for to develop these players.

By the way Robert Quinn has been a Beast for 2 years not 1. and is a physical freak. he has all the tools he can get vertical on the bend in pass rush and he also has great hands and power to work his way threw the inside.

He will have some issues in coverage in the beginning, but that`s what experience and coaching is for.

Quinn will be a stud in the NFL

34 tackles and 2 sacks is hardly considered being a beast. Also, his big season where he had 11 sacks, all of those sacks happened in 6 games. He had 3 sacks against Duke and Virginia and 2 sacks against East Carolina. Meanwhile, against teams like Florida State, Virginia Tech, Miami, and Boston College, Quinn had a total of 6 tackles and 1 sack. Wow, what a beast.

  12. The Christian Ponder pick scares me because we are going to draft a 3rd round QB, and try and develop him into a starter. The same old story in Buffalo. See what QB you can steal, or get cheap, and then wonder why we havent had a good QB since Jim Kelly. Id almost rather see us take a QB with our first pick than waste another few years on finding out who ISNT the answer.

I'd be interested to know whats so terrible about mine. Please share, thats what the thread is for.

You have Quinn going at #3. There's just so many things wrong with that pick. He's too small to play 3-4 DE. We have no idea if he can play OLB and drop into coverage or play the run. He was suspended all of last year so up until this point he's been a one year wonder. And his one productive year wasn't even that impressive. He's not a Nix pick. Nix likes guys with multiple seasons of college production, team captains, etc. Quinn is none of those things.

    Should I keep going?

  13. Buddy Nix publicly states that we're a 3-4 team and he will draft for a 3-4 defense. So naturally, it's only logical that we should all talk about drafting 4-3 guys like we're going to be predominantly running a 4-3. We're going to have 4-3 sets because the personnel we still have are geared towards a 4-3. If we keep drafting 4-3 players, then we'll never be able to make the transition to the 3-4. But I guess you guys are perfectly happy having a defensive scheme where half of the players don't fit that scheme.

  14. After reading this thread, I am thankful that nobody hear is making our draft choices. It's like there's a new thread every week saying we should over draft and reach for this or that player because they had a good game or saw some highlight clips on YouTube. But wait, what's that you say? You watched the entire week of practices of the Senior Bowl and therefore know what you're saying? By all means, carry on then. :wallbash:

  15. Opinion time? So what have we been doing all this time?

Anyway, what makes you not like Dalton? Is it his unheard of winning percentage or his lack of throwing ints?

I guess all I had were questions..????

Trent Edwards never threw a ton of interceptions. Vince Young has a good winning percentage. What's your point? I don't like Dalton's size and arm. I rarely saw his name mentioned until the Rose Bowl. It seems like people watched the Rose Bowl, Googled his stats and just assume he's some great QB. He's been less than stellar during Senior Bowl practices as well.
