  1. Newton in the first if he's there and if not, Mallett or Kaep in the 2nd. We will take a QB in rd 1 or 2 if I read Chix right and these three are the ones I'd gamble on if we do.
  2. I think this list has the highest odds of happening. I'd like to see Miller go at 2 and the Bills pick Dareus or Fairley, and I'd be OK with any of the other four on this list if not, with Newton being the biggest gamble\risk\payoff IMO. My hopes position-wise for the Bills picks: 1 DT or QB 2 QB or DT 3 OLB or ROT 4A ROT or OLB 4B TE 5 ILB 6 SS 7 Kicker or BPA We'll see!!
  3. Nick Fairley 1st round, surprise pick like with Spiller? Ryan Mallett or Colin Kaepernick 2nd round One more day!! Keep your fingers crossed!
  4. In Chix we trust to not pick a bust!
  5. If Newton and Miller go 1 and 2 then I want Dareus or Fairley If Newton and Dareus go 1 and 2 then I want Fairley or Miller If Dareus and Miller go 1 and 2 I want Fairley If Newton slides out of 1 and 2 I want Dareus, Fairley or Miller in that order If we get Newton or Gabbert I will accept it and hope for the best, as well as hope they nail the rest of their picks. I still think DaQuan Bowers will be a force in the NFL even though he fell down the boards. Wide Receivers in the top ten have historically been the lowest value\return for your pick (according to www.drafthistory.com, if memory serves me right) Two more days!
  6. That'll infuriate a lot of people if you're serious and it happens, including me. With this class of QB's, any of them at #3 is a reach IMO. Newton has upside that could offset that reach but still.... Trading down would be best if QB is the target.
  7. Green is possible but not probable. Miller may be who they pick but I'd rather have a DT here like Dareus or Fairley. I believe Miller will be a very good player and if we do pick him at #3 then we'd better make dang sure the rest of our picks are solid, since we need a DE, DT, ROT, LOT, TE, and yes, a QB for the future and not necessarily in that particular order. I do not believe a QB at #3 is wise for the Bills because neither of the choices will be ready or actually needed to start for at least a year or two and a #3 pick should be able to contribute right away if we're going to pay them big bucks (Miller has a good chance to do this as does Dareus and maybe a couple of other picks). That is why so many are sick about Maybin. We gave him a big contract and used a first round pick on him and he hasn't produced at all for the Bills, and there have been others too. Don't be surprised to see Green or Peterson at #3 if they consider them BPA. I'm hoping we can trade down and get some picks and still maybe get Bowers, Fairley (who I think still has a chance to be picked at #3), Quinn, or Jordan at a lower price. Not likely a trade will happen, but I'm still hopeful there's a chance.
  8. If the Bills believe that BOTH Newton and Gabbert are the types of QB's that can be what everyone calls a "franchise" quarterback then there is a decent chance they will take whichever is first on their board and available at #3. If only one fits this mold and he gets picked at #1 or #2 then they will most likely go Dareus or Miller at #3. I believe Miller has the best odds of being the Bills pick since Dareus will most likely go to Denver. I asked this in another post but what happens if Carolina shocks everyone and picks Miller and Denver picks Dareus or vice-versa? I believe this is the only scenario that raises the odds that we will take a QB at #3 since both will be there to take. I also agree with some of the other posters on here that say Buffalo wants Ponder (or another QB) with their 2nd rd pick. If this is true then they will most likely go D at #3. The Bills could also shock everyone and take a player nobody expected like they did last year. It is all a roll of the dice.
  9. I do think Miller will be the Bills #3 pick if he doesn't go to Carolina or Denver, but I really hope Ponder is a smoke screen for the Bills and that they go Brooks Reed, Mallett, Kaep, or someone like Phil Taylor at #34 who slips out of the 1st round just because some other positions get hot as the predominant picks. I am not a Ponder expert but I just haven't seen or read anything of him that makes him my pick at #34. Brooks Reed is a beast, Mallett and Kaep are, IMO, better risks at QB, and I think Phil Taylor is a steal at #34 as a pure, big 3-4 nose guard\tackle if he doesn't go in the 1st round or we don't get Dareus at #3. Martez Wilson was the choice given so I picked him, but he would be my pick after the others I just mentioned. I also think Carolina or Denver could easily go with Miller at 1 or 2 so if that happens, who the Bills will pick at 3 will be anybody's guess at that point.
  10. I can't see Denver going Newton but I can see them taking Peterson. With Orton and Tebow the QB need just isn't there. Ayers shouldn't go that high. JJ Watt will go before #20 (possibly to the Pats at #17, unless they trade up or down somehow). The rest are pretty solid and a good draft (IMO). I "argued" with a buddy about Denver going QB at #2 since he suggested what you have. Orton's numbers were great last year (and Tebow was pretty good the last three games as well) with a great deep ball. The defense (like the Bills) just couldn't keep the other teams from outscoring them most of the year. Denver has to go Defense. Carolina could take Gabbert as well and then where does Cam go? I'd rather Buffalo take Miller at #3 myself. I started off not being pro Miller but after reading more and more stuff about this player, I'd be happy with him (or Peterson, Fairley, Bowers, Dareus) at #3. DaQuan Bowers will be a steal for Dallas if he goes to them just because of the knee thing dropping his stock some. He will make his mark in the NFL IMO. I'd love Kaepernick in the 2nd rd as well.
  11. I like Stanzi as a later round pick as well but when two of the Bills scouts Majeski & Forsyth addressed the media at OBD (see link on Bills main site), they were asked about Stanzi and said the two of them hadn't gone to Iowa this year and that Brian Fisher had and to ask him about Stanzi. I couldn't find anything on this, so the Bills may not be looking too hard at him if they have an earlier QB pick in mind. If not, then I wouldn't mind seeing us take him in the 5th or 6th round if our biggest needs have already been addressed. I think they are leaning towards Mallett, Ponder or Kaepernick (these two scouts talked positively about Nevada players Kaep, OLB Dontay Moch, and TE Virgil Green) in the 2nd if available but we'll see. They even said CK could possibly have the potential to go 1st rd when asked. Actually, Drafttek's current mock has us taking Stanzi in the 3rd although that's pretty early to me. Maybe our 2nd pick in the 4th rd if we really want him bad enough? Just some info to consider.
  12. It will never happen. The pats are too good at getting players they need without having to trade up. They will trade down somewhere and still get good to great players, you watch.
  13. They may take Gabbert at #3 if Cam is gone or Cam at #3 if he isn't, or Mallett, Ponder, Locker, or Kaepernick if one they like is available at #34 and they get one of the defensive guys they wanted at #3. I agree it's a real reach to think you can get a successful QB after round 2, even statistically but I think it'll most likely be Gabbert at #3 If not and they take Miller at #3, I hope they go with Phil Taylor, Mallett or Kaepernick at #34 (in that order) depending on who's available, then go LT\RT in rd 3, LB 1st pick in rd 4, TE 2nd pick in rd 4, LB rd 5, CB rd 6, and BPA rd 7.
  14. I think the biggest problem with the Bills is Ralph putting people in place and then not replacing them regardless of performance. This is the main thing about Chan and Buddy that has given me hope about them. They have done the exact opposite so far (with the exception of George Edwards, but one year on a bad team changing from 4-3 to 3-4 with injuries and personnel who don't fit the scheme gives them and him a pass as far as I'm concerned). They pulled the trigger on several guys like Trent Edwards who was long overdue to be let go. There are others that will be next but so far they have been pretty methodical and smart in their approach and decisions. The message so far has been clear. Perform at the NFL level and work hard or find a new job.
  15. Most analysts like Mcshay and Kiper aren't talent scouts and I personally don't listen to much of what these guys say or think about players (except Mayock who, as far as I know, is known to thoroughly research the players). I try to watch games they play in or find as many clips as possible to form my own opinions. Ultimately it comes down to the scouts and evaluators on each team and hoping the ones on our team get it right. Unfortunately our history in the last ten or more years has been been below average at best. I'm hoping Chix hits some home runs this draft or it'll be another long year. P.S. Many of these analysts had Maybin rated pretty close to where we picked him and I can remember them discounting guys like Clay Matthews and Aaron Rogers as well, so their records aren't any better than many fans here on TBD. It's like playing Vegas, it's always a risk with big payouts possible at any time. P.S.S I still think Spiller will be special. I may also be wrong. This is how it works.
  16. +1.... I'm not anti QB at #3 but no matter who is behind center for the Bills, it won't change the fact that the lines need bigger stronger and better guys on them or else the QB will be running for his life or playing catch-up all game long because we can't protect him or stop the other teams from scoring. If we put a rookie in there this year he'll get destroyed. We need to get a QB in free agency to back up Fitzy and maybe draft a guy in the 2nd or 3rd to groom for the future (Mallett and Kaepernick are my picks), then fill the holes on the lines early (rds 1 thru 4)and the other holes in the later rounds. Many call Spiller a wasted pick but a big part of the reason he didn't succeed right off last year was the O-line and Chan who admitted himself that he didn't use him properly. We need run-stoppers, pass rushers, and a decent right or left tackle at minimum to make the QB and the team perform much better. Finally, if Cam is who they want and Carolina passes on him (which I highly doubt), he's the only one who I think would be worth the risk at #3, just because of his pure athleticism. The real question as with any QB is, will he be able to grasp the complicated playbooks\schemes of the NFL in order to have longevity at QB?
  17. I like this kid a lot but I don't think he is a 1st rd pick. If we pass on a QB in the 1st and get a solid Defensive pick there like Miller, Dareus, Bowers, etc., and Mallett isn't there at #34 then I might gamble on this kid sitting and learning behind Fitzy for a year. I like Kaepernick, Mallett, or Ponder at #34 if we do go QB. If Phil Taylor is there at #34 I'd pass on all of these guys and take him. The Raiders are crazy enough to try to move up for this kid but it isn't likely. This #34 pick is too valuable to trade unless it is a deal too good to pass up since we could get a 1st rd talent in the second round. It'll be fun and nerve wracking to see what they do come the 28th.
  18. Merriman is definitely a gamble, but aren't most things in the NFL? Many on here may have it right and he becomes a wasted effort for the Bills but consider this. He's had a lot of time to heal and get conditioned and he also is at the make or break point in his career as already stated, which in my opinion makes him a serious threat if he truly is and can stay healthy. Here's hoping he makes a huge comeback on this team instead of another one, and if not then we move forward accordingly.
  19. If Carolina doesn't take Newton, the Bills could very possibly take him and I'd be OK with that as long as we address the defensive needs immediately after that. Personally I see Cam going #1 to Carolina, so we may be looking at Gabbert or Defense as the choice to make. My gut tells me the Bills are thinking QB at #3 so they will make a lot of people happy and a lot of people angry if they do. It will also be interesting to see what happens when Free Agency is opened if the the CBA is ever resolved.
  20. #3 will NOT be Green. Peterson is possible but not high odds to pick. Von Miller or a DT\DE will be the pick if they don't get the QB they want here. So much rides on who goes #1 and #2 that it is impossible to predict. Green wouldn't upset me, just confuse me, but he wouldn't make sense at #3 either since WR is one of our least needed positions. Spiller made some sense since Marshawn hadn't shown recent production and wasn't happy here and Freddie isn't that young. Don't be surprised if we pick a running back in a later round this year as well.
  21. I agree. We would need to shore up the o-line for Malletts' lack of mobility but he (if he stays "clean") will be a great pocket QB in IMO, especially learning under Fitzy. There are probably better choices for the Bills at #34 but again, just going by the OP's guidelines.
  22. I picked Mallett based upon the list offered and the assumption that Carolina takes Cam and we get Dareus in the first rd. If we pick a QB first rd, then I'd pick Phil Taylor or Martez Wilson, depending on who's there at #34.
  23. I'm not sure (as I'm not a scout or privy to game tape to even anaylze them) whether Cam or Gabbert are top five talents at QB but I do believe that I was wrong earlier on to assume that going D first pick is the "only" way. Yes I would prefer a defensive player (DE\DT\CB\OLB) be our pick at #3 but I'm now of the opinion that any player picked in this draft from the top players at each position will make the Bills a better team. I also believe however that certain D players will have an earlier impact on the team as opposed to a QB who may sit for awhile (unless Fitzy gets hurt early or for some reason just stinks it up) and that most of them will be (hopefully) long term high impact players. Some will ultimately be busts as well, but that's the nature of the beast (as we know too well). I just hope who ever the pick is that the player is a true high level NFL player that we can keep in Buffalo (along with the rest of our picks!).
  24. A buddy of mine pointed something out about Mallett that I hadn't considered. Since he isn't a "mobile" QB like some others and can't do much by running, this forced\forces him to be a smart pocket passer and an accurate one at that. Considering his size (hard to bring down), accuracy, comes froma "pro-style" offense and deep ball skills and arm, I wouldn't be against picking him with our 2nd (if he's there which many say he won't be). Just pray Miami or NE doesn't get him for the future. Kaep appears to be a 2nd rd pick but who knows how the board will fall. I worry about Ponder and the injuries he's already suffered. If we put him behind a line that can't protect him well, will he stand up to the beating? Not very familiar with Dalton but I'd go with Kaep or Mallet as 2nd or 3rd rd picks, depending on how the board falls by the time we pick in each round. I also still like Stanzi as an option in late 4th or in 5th round if we have been lucky enough to have satisfied our biggest needs in the earlier rounds by this point. Come on April 28th!
