  1. Outstanding to see that so many think that this is a joke. The poor guy is probably scared out of his mind right now and we're going to joke about it. The guy had an "illness" and the comedians come out in full force. Good work.
  2. Here are my keys for the Bills in week 1. 1. Set the tone on defense. The revamped defense has an opportunity to make a statement against one of the best rushing offenses in football. Dareus and Williams need to be in the Kansas City backfield early and often. If they can bottle up Jamal Charles early, the Chiefs will be forced to throw the ball. Matt Cassel is effective at managing a game and picking his spots, but when forced to win a game he is prone to mistakes (see playoffs last season.) If the d-line keeps the run in check, it could be a long afternoon for Cassel (or Tyler Palko?) 2. Efficiency on offense. The Bills offense should not need to put up 30 points to win in week 1. Confidence along the offensive line is built through a solid running game. As long as Kansas City doesn't get up by 2 or 3 scores, expect a steady dose of Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller as well as a quick, efficient passing attack from Fitzpatrick. The last thing Buffalo should want to do this week is be overly complex. They should keep it very basic and let this o-line get their footing. 3. Avoid the critical mistake. The Bills' tendancy towards crucial mistakes at the worst time in games has been their undoing since the Music City Miracle. Ryan Fitzpatrick throws some bad interceptions from time to time, and this game is going to be close. Gailey seems to preach this, and it will especially be a key in this type of game. Predication: I think the Bills put it together against a Kansas City team that overachieved last season. Chris Kelsay is a name that is sticking out to me for some reason this week as I think he will be largely forgotten due to all of the new faces that teams will have to plan for. If Cassel plays, I see the Bills having to grind out a 20-16 win. If Cassel doesn't play I see a laugher 24-6 Bills victory. Either way, I think we'll feel good for about the first 4 weeks of the season until the Eagles come into town Columbus Day weekend and send us back to reality.
  3. If Kelsay sits on the bench after having signed the contract extension he just signed last year, I'll eat a football.
  4. Hopefully all of the complaining stops. Our front 7 of D.Edwards-Williams-Dareus (DL) and Merriman-Barnett-Davis-Kelsay (LB) should be much improved. We now have experience in the scheme. And don't forget about the Stache roaming the sidelines now. Legitimate NFL players with a legitimate coach should equal an improving team.
  5. I don't agree with your post. First of all, Drayton Florence was not signed by the Buddy Nix regime he was signed prior to Nix taking over as GM during the very memorable Russ Brandon is a football guy era. Second, Cromartie is going to command upwards of $7-8 million on the open market. There is no way he comes here. The Bills have two roster spots left to get to 90; one for Channing Crowder who's apparantly on their radar and the other for a veteran tackle of some sort (hopefully.)
  6. If its camp, what do they have to lose. He's been exposed to the position, maybe you catch lightning in a bottle.
  7. I don't see the Bills doing this, not at #3 when you have to give this player the richest contract in team history. The pick will be Von Miller. He has the versatility, character, high motor, production, and pass rushing skill to warrant such a contract. He can play in any scheme and be effective. Who doesn't want this guy coming off of the edges with Shawn Merriman?
  8. I'm glad the preseason is over just so that I don't have to listen to Steve Tasker anymore. The guy was a great player and I respect his contributions as he was maybe my favorite player from the 1990s Bills teams. He might be the worst announcer in LEAGUE HISTORY! He makes mistakes on down and distance, calls players by the wrong name, his analysis is flat-out incorrect at times, its endless. Travis Brown hasn't played for the Bills in 6 years. Kevin Hardy used to be an outside linebacker in jacksonville, not a wide receiver in Buffalo. At one point tonight, I actually asked my wife if she thinks he's drunk. Darby the Dinosaur isn't any better. How does a former player in the 3-4 defense not know basic terminology of the system? He called Poz the "Mike" middle linebacker in the 3-4 tonight. I thought they were the same! WTF! Why do they have to get some guy to tell me what I am watching just because he used to play? I would rather be entertained by somebody who knows the basics but can articulate himself and not make mistakes.
  9. Williams being out killed their run defense early...it was pretty apparant. The defense is going to get better as the year goes on. To that end, I think they should just play Maybin and get him reps so maybe he can grow with the unit.
  10. Chris Johnson is 197...what's your point? I agree...I don't want to see him get all the carries or anything. I'm saying that if this guy starts, you immediately have the other team scrambling....Especially when they have he and Parrish on the field at the same time. Imagine how good they could be if Trent learns to beat the blitz regularly!
  11. How does CJ Spiller not enter this season as the starting running back? He was the 9th pick in the draft, he's a match-up nightmare for defenses, he's better than expected between the tackles. He should be starting games and Jackson/Lynch should be coming in later to pound it home. Don't get me wrong, the load should be divided, but don't we want the ball in this guy's hands as much as possible? I'm very interested to see what Gailey does when he has the three back healthy. He's going to have some crazy formations!
  12. QB (3) Edwards, Brohm, Brown RB (5) Jackson, Lynch, Spiller, Bell, McIntyre WR (6) Evans, Johnson, Parish, Jackson, Jones, Roosevelt TE (4) Stupar, Nelson, Schouman, Foschi OL (9) Bell, Levitre, Hangartner, Wood, Green, Meredith, Wang, Chambers, Howard DL (7) Stroud, Williams, Edwards, Johnson, Carrington, Troup, McCargo LB (7) Kelsay, Posluszny, Davis, Torbor, Maybin, Ellis, Moats DB (8) McGee, Florence, Witner, Wilson, Byrd, Scott, McKelvin, Youboty, Corner Specialists (3) - Lindell, Moorman, Sanborn "Surprise" cuts - Fitzpatrick, Hardy, Mitchell. I think that they'll raid the waiver wire for some o-line help as well following final cuts, so beyond the starting five, none of that crew is safe. What does everybody think? I could see more turnover here than I indicated for sure. Where do we make changes?
  13. I love the whole mentality that somebody needs to be 330 to play DT in a 3-4. Kelly Gregg is a fine nose in Baltimore and he's 6'0" 305. Jay Ratliff in Dallas isn't that big, he's about 305. Its about the mentality. There is not a player in the league who will outwork Kyle Williams. Troup will be an important rotational piece, no doubt. But, Williams will surprise me if he doesn't hold it down in the middle. All this guy has done since he was drafted was prove people wrong.
  14. I like them to start the season with Brian Brohm. People forget that this guy would have been the first pick in the draft if he had come out following his junior year. I know he had a tough time of it in Green Bay, but the talent is there. Gailey can put him in a QB friendly system, similar to what the Patriots had Tom Brady in at the beginning of his career in which he is not relied upon to win you games, just make a couple of plays when need be and get comfortable being efficient in the offense. As he gets comfortable with running the offense, he will naturally be trusted more. He just needs to be managed and you might have a player. If it isn't Brohm or if he doesn't work out, its Levi Brown's show. Why not? If they are having a bad year, what have they got to lose in playing him?
  15. This team is not going to win 1 or 2 games....they have too much talent for that to happen. If they get decent play out of their QB (whomever he is) they could very easily win 8 games this season and with a few breaks 9 or 10. This is a league in which the haves and have nots aren't separated by very much. A couple of early season breaks the right way, some better luck with injuries, and the emergence of a quarterback could have them competitive. Expectations are not high, so let's see what happens. This could be a fun year.
  16. You actually spelled your name wrong too....ByrdsDaWord should be Byrd's the word. Now doesn't that sound stupid? Sorry, I wasn't sitting there with the Bills roster in front of me, clearly you're a better fan.
  17. There will be some pretty profound roster turnover headed into next season...here is my 53 man roster for 2010 * - Starter QB (3) - *Brohm, Fitzpatrick, Brown (Edwards doesn't make it out of camp!) RB (5) - *Jackson, Spiller, Lynch, McIntyre WR (6) - *Evans, *Hardy, Johnson, Easly, Parrish, C. Jackson TE (3) - *Nelson, *Schouman, Matthews OL (9) - *Bell, *Levitre, *Hangartner, *Wood, *Green, Calloway, Meredeth, Wang, Gaddis K (1) - Lindell LS (1) - Sanborn DE (4) - *Stroud, *Edwards, Sp. Johnson, Carrington DT (3)- *Williams, Troupe, Harvey OLB (5) - *Maybin, *Schobel, Kelsay, Batten, Coleman ILB (4) - *Posluszny, *Mitchell, Davis, Moats CB (5) - *McGee, *McKelvin, Florence, Corner, Youboty S (4) - *Wilson, *Byrd, Witner, Scott P (1) - Moorman Notable Cuts - Trent Edwards, Jonathan Stupar, Chad Simpson, John McCargo, Nick Harris, Jon Corto, Cory Harris, Ellis Lankster, Chris Ellis, Keith Ellison Surprise makes - Levi Brown, Chad Jackson, Mike Matthews, Christian Gaddis, Lonnie Harvey, Antonio Coleman
  18. The draft is about getting value players and building not just for this season, but for the future. Nicks was part of regimes that built up in the trenches with mid-round picks...(Marcus McNeil, Kris Dielman, etc.) Provided they don't go DB, WR, or TE I'll be a happy camper.
  19. Its an interesting question, because given his size and quickness, would he have been moved inside on 3rd down? I think he would have been elite anywhere.
  20. Change out Derrick Morgan for Brandon Graham and you have a deal. What of your o-line?
