SI's Jeff Pearlman should be ashamed.
agardin replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was reading the responses in this thread and I remembered reading a pretty amazing story. At least in Buffalo you don't have to worry about this happening. http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/296871 -
Kitna threw for 4K yards with Martz as his OC, twice. He also had a bunch of picks, but that was the same basic team that went 0-16 when he got hurt in week 5 of the next season, not exactly a talent laden squad. Not sure what is going on with Cutler and I haven't seen any Bears games but from what is said by the experts is that he looks lost. I guess he is just not comfortable in Martz's system. Kurt Warner and Bulger did pretty well also.

He did it after a few preseason games, if I recall correctly. A difference of coaching oppinions and Gailey wouldn't go along with it I suppose. Maybe Haley didn't like his black rimmed glasses.

Didn't Haley fire Gailey?

Aaron Maybin is playing out of position
agardin replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have no idea if he could do it but I was thinking the same thing when I heard he was a healthy scratch. He is supposed to be quick but is this relative to a DL? Can he play in space and cover guys, who knows. We do know that he is having problems playing in tight and playing with leverage. I have commented on other threads that something is wrong because he can't make the active roster playing special teams so he just may not be a good football player. Your idea is not that crazy as defensive players change positions all the time (including a few from your examples), only it usually when they first get in the league. I am pulling for him, he isn't lazy and he seems to have a good attitude plus I don't think I can stomach another bust. -
Rookie wage scale in place for 2011 draft
agardin replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My understanding is that the Union is actually for it but they want to keep the % split they recieve now, meaning they don't want the owners to get any savings from a rookie salary cap. -
JJ puts the dick in big D I wouldn't mind if Demarcus Ware got fed up and wanted to play for the Bills though.

I do love the Cowboys losing but to the Giants? Oh well nothing is perfect, the good news is that the Bills are only one game behind the Cowboys.

The Fitzpatrick thread you knew was coming.
agardin replied to Van_phelaN1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I guess, I just see a 27 year old guy that has never had a legitimate shot as a teams full time starter a little different but it is true that he has been in the league for 5 years so your point is well taken. -
It looks like the guy is not a football player or else we would have at least seen him busting heads on special teams. Hell he should be working on his long snapping just in case.

Is Fitz really a journeyman QB? I have read that on a lot of threads. He has had 27 starts over 5 years in the NFL (a few of those playing behind Palmer.) It is not as if he is in his late 30s with a hundred starts under his belt. He has played for 3 teams which makes him a bit of a transient but the league is full of players that took a year and half worth of starts before they realized their potential. Not sure if it will happen with Fitz or not but he will have 10 games to prove himself as a quality NFL starter and if he does that for this Bills team I would say that is quite an accomplishment. -
If Fitz keeps playing like this?
agardin replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
+1-Who knows who is coming out and who isn't. The Bills have 10 games left and Fitz will be given every opportunity to show he is a high level starter. I am a BPA (within reason) kinda guy. -
the big takeaway from today's game
agardin replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I did think the same thing after the NE game as well so we will see if they can use it as a springboard to better play. I said at the beginning of the year ( my prediction was 5-11, oops) that I wanted the Bills to be a very tough out at the end of the year so if they continue to play as they did today then that will be something. -
I liked the 3rd down conversions today, I haven't see the Bills pull out some critical first downs in a long time. I have to stay positive right?

Official Bills/Raven's Game day post
agardin replied to Mike in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
as they said, 17 points in 1:12 seconds. Oh my Bills always find a way to screw things up. -
I am a passive Raptors fan and watch the last few minutes of televised games and to be honest if they left I don't think I would care. That being said they do draw well ( TV ratings not so good )considering the team has sucked for 13 out of 15 years. The difference is that there is a whole generation of new canadians that are more into the NBA than hockey. In certain areas of the city where new immigrants tend to end up their minor hockey programs have had to merge with other jurisdictions ( as most of you know hockey has turned into a rich kids game) So the NBA will not leave Toronto, the raptors make money and their fan base is actually expanding, if they could string together a few winning seasons they would be a huge money maker. I know the Nets have a new owner and the Hawks have gotten better but everytime I see games from those arenas it looks like there is 5k people in the stands.

I had friends that went down to Raleigh to watch a Hurricanes game a few years back (playoffs i think) they said that the tailgating and fans were great, did it carry over or has it been lost since they slid since they won the cup. That seems to be the case, hockey has great pull when the teams do really well and then disappear when the team sucks.

For those interested here is the ratings breakdown for all 4 major professional leagues. http://www.sportsmediawatch.net/2010/04/local-on-eights-ratings-for-nba-mlb-and.html The NHL is the most regional of all but the numbers aren't too bad in some key markets. The numbers do not include ratings for Canada which the NHL would obviously be king. Who cares? The NHL does collect TV contracts from Canada and therefore would help their bottom line. The NBA and NHL do have one thing going for them in that they are more international sports and they are popular where people have money. Namely Europe. NBA is apparently burgeoning in China which could be the ultimate revenue generator down the line. I believe all the sports are going to try and tap these markets in the future, NHL and NFL regular season games are being played in Europe already, not sure about the NBA but they will get there. Baseball has an advantage in latin america and likey certain asian countries but as in most things economic the growth will not come from North America but from emerging markets and new markets in Europe. The sport that that can take advantage of this reality will be in the best shape going forward.

I don't like the Patriots but to call Brady un likeable is not even close to reality. I know Bills fans don't like him but he is known as the Golden Boy for a reason. 6th round draft pick and multiple SB winner, team first player who was willing to play for less so that his team would be better, multiple record holder and in my oppinion the best QB in the NFL ( that is a close one with Manning but winning trumps all ) I think by and large Brady would recieve a favourable rating by NFL fans. If he were a Bill he would be the greatest human being on the planet.

I Think This Sunday Will Tell A Lot
agardin replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with the OP, everyone knows this team sucks rocks. The team still has games to play and for most of these guys it could mean a job next year or not. If you play for the Bills and you stink there are not going to be a ton of teams lining up for your services. The NFL is still better than the real world. Also, our brain trusts have basically announced that this is a season long try out so players better show something. Remember the mantra of NFL coaches ' Get it on tape ' -
An Unlikely Future Owner Of The Bills?

What NFL rules would you change?
agardin replied to BuffaloinLA's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
not likely to happen but...I would love to go to the cfl 20 second game clock instead of 40. That being said, half of the o and d line in the NFL wouldn't be able to keep up that pace. The 40 clock is made for tv commercials, which isn't too bad when you are watching at home but the 40 second clock when you are live at the game does really slow down the pace. Maybe 20 is too quick but something less than the 40, more exciting finishes as teams would have a harder time running down the clock -

one foot in I am for as well as the clock stops to reset the yard sticks and adopt college overtime. Fair catch, go to the CFL no yards rule, you get a return on every punt. -
The more I think about this the more certain I am
agardin replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are right, you can't build an entire team through the draft so it is a misnomer as a plan. I guess the idea is that you build your core through the draft QB, OTs,DEs and corners the rest you fill in with lower priced free agents and lower draft picks, maybe a big one if you are close to going deep in the playoffs. -
You have a point there, after the draft most of the pundits pointed to the Panthers running game as to one of the reasons Clausen might be going to great situation. I guess they aren't using their strenghts at RB well. I could see it if the other teams D was stacking the box and the running game was going nowhere, forcing Clausen to pass but...if they have a RB that is averaging 4.7 yards a carry that doesn't make any sense.
