Media creates news so they can report news. What's new? They ask questions, get vague answers they don't like from coaches, etc. So they use conjecture to draw up scenarios to report on. It's faux journalism.

That is true. But a "catch" was never made. In game importance is undeniable, and I get your point. Also, it introduces another variable of defensive back quality/ time of the game where it may be more conducive to be flagged. Not to mention if you follow your logic and extrapolate, MANY other rules/ stats probably should be re-evaluated. Perhaps that is the case.
