  1. Dude, did you eat paint chips as a child? I threw out some factors that need to be considered to have meaningful data. Only an unmitigated moron could look at that as a definitive conclusion. And you have to be pretty simple to throw out one stat line and just assume all other variables are held constant. But I understand if considering multiple variables makes your brain hurt. You're a simple man with simple thoughts. And the gang angle is relevant because a significant portion of gun deaths are the result of gang violence (I've seen estimates as high as 50% but I can't vouch for the reliability of that figure), which is largely unique to the U.S., and those guns are usually illegal in the first place. And to answer your question about if gangs didn't have guns, how successful are we at keeping drugs out of their hands? I've posed the question many times without a response, but I'll try again. What is an assault rifle and why is it more dangerous than any other semi-automatic rifle?
  2. That's more like it. The next step is to examine the data at the next level. That means considering other factors that may effect those statistics such as cultural and demographic differences, like gang activity which IIRC has a profound impact on those numbers (if I have time later I'll try to dig up some info on that; it's been a while since I devoted any time to this issue). Then you have to consider homicide numbers in general (some people who kill with a gun would kill anyway, others wouldn't; you have to find a way to quantify it to have meaningful data). Then that must be weighed against the incidences of violence averted by guns. Comparing violent crime rates between states with strict gun laws against those with weak gun laws can also be instructive. After all that you still have to come up with a plan that will effectively address the harm in question that isn't outweighed by the damage of unintended consequences.
  3. All that shows is what % of the homicides within a country are gun related. If you're looking for a statistic to support your point you should pull per capita homicides, you !@#$ing moron.
  4. Dave's been pushing that theory for a while now. Don't worry, neither does he.
  5. Until you suggest something specific that would effectively address the issue your "do something" argument is meaningless, and no, calling for vague general regulation is not a plan. Looks like you're a few beers short of a 6 pack, Joe.
  6. You basically just confirmed what jjamie said. You want the tax returns to play class warfare so you can run ads telling people that they pay higher taxes than rich boy Mitt And while the debate you mention may be a valid one to have, it has nothing to do with how fit he is to be President. And the only taxes anyone owes are those mandated by law. If Mitt has found legal ways to avoid those you can legitimately debate whether the tax code should be altered to prevent that, but to claim that by running for President he's obligated to volunteer as the case study for your tax debate is absurd.
  7. "The right thing" is a very curious concept.
  8. No money for the good stuff & if you're drinking domestic that's as good as it gets. Good old beer flavored American beer, none of that watered down diet beer for me. And it won't give you a hangover.
  9. I don't know about OJ but I just spent $8 on a 12 pack of High Life.
  10. It's not so much that she !@#$ed her boss as it is that she threw it in Walt's face, and more specifically, why she threw it in Walt's face. And while she was trying to save her own ass and her boss' ass, I don't see how Walt would go down if his accounting scam was uncovered. The main difference between Skylar's infractions and everyone else's is that no one else has a moral high horse they condescend from atop. And her looks have nothing to do with it. I wouldn't kick her out of bed....unitl I was finished
  11. I get what you're saying, but there's no getting around supply and demand. Just because you manipulate one or the other doesn't mean you negate the effects. That's a prime reason why the cost has risen so quickly. That being said, I tip my hat to you. Your conclusion is probably the most honest assessment I've seen from any supporters of the bill. Cheers, you old hippy
  12. Can anyone tell me of a person who is calling for a weak government?
  13. What is an assault weapon and what makes it more dangerous than other semi-automatic rifles?
  14. There are few problems with I see with this analysis. 1. As with most such analysis coming out recently, different revenue streams that are taxed differently are treated as though they were the same for the sake of arriving at these numbers. 2. I don't know anyone who is clamoring for tax cuts for the rich. I'm sure some exist, but I mainly hear people that don't want to raise taxes which is not the same as wanting to lower taxes. 3. The tax that I hear calls for cutting most often are corporate taxes which are not the equivalent of tax cuts for the rich and would go a long way toward keeping prices down and making the US more attractive to companies that have the ability to operate from the most profitable location. I know those who normally scoff at patriotism like to cry foul when businesses choose not to sacrifice their earnings to the US government and move to greener pastures, but that's the way of the world.
  15. In Dave's world there's socialism & then there's Somalia. Everything else is just fiction.
  16. You gotta be the man, man. Girls are attracted to confidence. Tha doesn't mean put on a macho display of bravado & it doesn't mean you can't show some vulnerability. It does mean you NEVER want to come off as weak, needy, or desperate. Remember that you're an interesting guy with a good life & you'd like to share some of that with her and if she passes it's her loss & the next girl's gain. Keep that in mind & you'll do just fine.
  17. I will say, she somewhat redeemed herself in my eye at the end of last season when she got Walt's back. But I really haven't like her since she !@#$ed her boss and threw it in Walt's face. Then, despite her moral outrage at Walt's criminal behavior, she didn't hesitate to use the drug money when she needed it. Some of it's just her personality I don't like.
  18. These cases are always tough to judge. Reading the article it seems like a miscarriage of justice. By the same token, I can't say I've never known a girl who made some bad decisions, woke up feeling dirty, and decided it was the guy's fault. This is why I want nothing to do with sex crime prosecution or defense.
  19. I only got about half way through it. That's the majority of people who go out for drinks on a Friday night. I'm not advocating it, but but I'm not demonizing it either. And I don't want to defend Lynch, who by all accounts seems to be a man of questionable character at best, but 20 years ago that wouldn't be DUI. Either way, if he failed the field test and was driving dangerously he should be charged anyway.
  20. Yeah, that's a really bad one. I once told someone if I was dying I'd want to hear that song so it would seem like forever. The worst (or at least cheesiest) song I've ever heard is Tim McGraw - One of These Days. I can't find a youtube clip that isn't a cover, but I gag at the thought of this song.
  21. I'll say. I hope you're recovering well. It must have been brutal.
  22. Does anyone else absolutely hate Skylar? I can't stand this chick. She's as morally bankrupt as anyone, yet sits on her judgmental pedestal as though she's somehow above it all. It really rubs me the wrong way.
  23. I'm no fan of Lynch, but it looks like this might not be as bad as it first appeared. Apparently he blew a .08, which is the minimum level for DUI. Granted, he probably shouldn't have driven, but it's not like this is a guy who got wasted and drove off. A few drinks and a light buzz can land you at .08. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8184734/seattle-seahawks-marshawn-lynch-apologizes-arrest-dui
  24. Like I said before bring on the moes and hos.
  25. Uh... did someone have a Prozac moment here? This is the most uncalled for and bizarre post I think I've ever seen. Not sure when I've been hounding you. Honestly, I never gave you much thought. I had some vague recollection of you being a lib who (I think) supports Romney, but beyond that I only know of you as some guy who lives in the shoutbox and listens to Joe. But it's flattering to know I've been living rent free in your head for so long. The rest of your post is great unintentional humor with biting irony. You mischaracterize me while complaining about mischaracterization (not sure where I mischaracterized you), label me while complaining about labels (not sure where I labeled you), and you slander me while complaining about slander (actually it would be libel, but whatever). I'm really not sure what was so offensive about throwing out some food for thought, but if you have a problem with it, maybe you should try to explain with logic, facts, and reason what your disagreement is. But instead of taking a swing at it, you stepped up to the plate, got scared off by the first pitch, and threw a little temper tantrum and walked off pouting. Probably best, anyway. No offense, but you're not even in my league.
