  1. Is this what the new field at the Ralph is going to be. If so, that's going to be a slow surface!

Only the end zones will be mulched since we don't tend to get in there much.

  2. watch this youtube.com/watch?v=1mq86lYjgQ0&feature=related

Hopefully the new uni's will show better. The helmets look high school.

Keep the red helmets. The uni's could use more red around the shin pads like the 90's Bills uni's

Forgot how good the early 80's Bills teams were. Cribbs was a beast.

  3. Why don't these people do their homework, spent the whole recap of the Bills draft saying that Dareus will not be good at the nose and the Bills got the wrong fella if thats what they intend doing with him which is what he thinks they will do. Honestly, lazy journalism. It always seems to be the case when it comes to the Bills.

I understood his point but the Bills stated during the draft that they drafted him because he could play all positions in the 3/4. He didn't consider the fact that the Bills would take advantage of his versitility, he belabored his original point which was not accurate.

When it comes to the Bills, Dukes or Faulk never has anything positve to say...so screw em.

  4. Probably true…at this point he should feel pretty fortunate to have a job in the NFL…I'm sure he's not going to be lobbying too hard for players.

The Browns took Phil Taylor, the Baylor Nose Tackle with their first pick…Taylor weighs more that the Bills entire D-line of the Jauron era…definitely not a John McCargo type pick.

However as long as we're dreaming, maybe a package of Whitner, Kelsay, and McCargo to the Browns for...

Please include Poz in this package. If we are going unload BS, lets unload all of it.

  5. Maybe the fans have gotten so use to mediocrity that when we get an OK player we tend to think he is better than what other members of the league think. The fact of the matter is that we do not have a stand out player...not even KW. I don't think teams are afraid of the KW threat. We just need better players. Hopefully this will begin to change this season. I respect the list because players peers voted but do I agree? Not necessarily. The last poll voted Jerry Rice the greatest football player of all time. While he was a very good player I just don't see any receiver being the best. Sit back and watch Brady or Manning get the top spot.

  6. levitre was a good pick.

Last season Troup is a big boy but the jury is still out on him,

Byrd was a nice find and I remember reading he was in demand early in round 2.

Kelsey has been an adequate player for a long time

Poz is a good player and the guy the fans wanted

Reed was a much better player than people give him credit for. One of the best blocking receiver in the NFL in his day and great after the catch

Parrish has been a dynamic player in special teams and when a coach finally gave him a shot last year he was a good receiver too

Denny was a good player and nice depth on our D line

Hardy was bad, One TD...just bad

Troup jury is still out, could be a defining year.

Levitre has stabilized the position but he needs to get better if we are to have a run game.

Byrd is talented, the change in scheme hurt him but toward the end of the season he became very rounded in his position.

Kelsey a dime a dozen player not worth the contract. A liability to the defense.

Poz another dime a dozen player not worth what we gave up to get him. To soft, can't handle his position, another defensive liabilty.

Reed never could escape mediocrity. Battled the dropsies early in career. Not having a good QB didn't help him.

Parrish excellent special teamer deserves a chance to get his hands on the ball more.

    Denny see Poz and Kelsey.

Hardy was his own worst enemy, trendy choice looking for a Plaxico type receiver. Wasted pick.

Byrd seems to be the best pick of the bunch. The only one to truly earn a pro bowl spot. The others will not come close maybe with the exception of Troup. Troup, Levitre and Byrd still have upside.

  7. Not a bad list. I would have mine as follows:

    1. Lee Evans-has been team's best receiver pretty much since he was drafted.

    2. Marshawn Lynch-Two 1,000 yard seasons. The most exciting running back this team has had since Thurman retired.

    3. Eric Wood-Has potential to be one of the best Guards in the NFL, but too early to put him at #1 on any list, since he has barely played more than one season.

    4. Donte Whitner-Burned like toast often, but always on the field and a fierce hitter.

    5. Willis McGahee-Couple good seasons. Drops down the list because as a pick, because he couldn't even suit up his rookie year. Also drops down because he is an idiot.

    6. Leodis McKelvin-Has had highs and real lows. Good potential. Was a reach in the draft. Will always be remembered in Buffalo for losing the season opener in New England a couple years ago with one of the biggest bonehead plays in Bills history.

    7. J. P. Losman-Had all the physical tools. My personel opionion is that Mularkey ruined this guy, yanking him in and out of the lineup after one bad series.

    8. John McCargo-Only put him above Mike Williams because he lasted longer in Buffalo and was not drafted anywhere near as high as the #4 pick overall.

    9. Mike Williams-No need to explain.

    10. Aaron Maybin-A high first round pick and even gets beat out on special teams. Two years in the NFL and still does not have a sack? Total bust.

I ranked these on their value as draft picks, since that is what the post is about. Just look at this list though, is it any wonder this team has sucked for so long?

I like this list better. They all haven't been bust but there should have been more home runs.

  8. See, this is all wrong with the Bills, and the Bills fans.

You don't get rid of servicable football players (who are not stars, or top tier) because you draft promising prospects.

    You need both.

We do this worst in the secondary, where we can't seem to sign anyone to a second contract, but we do it to everyone.

Poz is not a bad player when he's healthy. He'll do better with a decent line in front of him. Draft potential better players, AND keep Poz.

I have the same attitude about Poz that many of you have toward Whitner. We gave up a pro bowler (Fletcher) for him and missed out on drafting another pro bowler(David Harris) for this serviceable softie.

He has too many liabilities when he is on the field. Opposing teams argue if they are going to run at him or throw his way, either way its a first down or touchdown. Poz is a bench player in my book. I would only resign him if he came at a bargain basement price.

At some point you have to start replacing serviceable players with talented ones if you want to win?

Let see what Chris White can do. Couldn't be much worse

You don't get rid of serviceable players like London Fletcher and yes, Willis McGahee.

but you do cut your losses by getting rid of your mistakes like Lil' Donte, Pos, Maybin, McCargo, etc. and move on.

    +1

  9. DL: Edwards-Williams-Dareus

    LB: Merriman-Posluszny-Davis-Kelsay/Moats

    CB: McKelvin-McGee nickle: Williams

    FS: Byrd

SS: Whitner (for now, maybe a FA replacement but as of right now he was tendered as an RFA and is still a Bill)

You have the DL correct, Troup and Carrington will be part of the rotation.

LB's - Kelsay is not a OLB so I question him starting although we have no proven depth here. Merriman not sure what we are going to get out of him but I think he will be solid. Poz should be part of the rotation coming off the bench, his instincts, tackling and cover ability are poor. I think you will see Sheppard and White become fixtures at MLB.

CB's - McKelvin is nickel back not sure if he is ready to be starter. Florence should be resigned he is badly needed.

S - It seems like Whitner may be gone (if so take Poz with you )I like Wilson. Byrd and maybe one of the rookies in the rotation.

  10. It's nice to at least have an honest GM who doesn't give you a bunch of guff about how, "OF COURSE" they want Donte. It's refreshing to hear a 'Don't let hit the door hit ya'

They drafted 3 db's passing on a pass rushing OLB in the 2nd, Brooks Reed maybe. How much are they going to try to sign Florence who was our best corner last year. Something tells me Whitner will end up in the division in a better situation making a lot less than he thinks he is worth. He clearly was not worth a #8 pick first round but he was only defender that would put a hit on someone. More than we can expect from our pansie a$$ LB's.

Nix has made some good moves like getting rid of TE, but TE never should have started last year. Nix has made some questionable moves so far. Is Kelsey worth his contract? Is Fitz really the man? Drafting 3 CB's when we have Wilson and Byrd in the fold? Was the need for 3 CB's more than our need for a QB or a pass rusher or a Guard. After squandering last years opportunity to make the team better and questionable contract signings I still say the jury is still out on Nix. As refreshing as it is to hear Nix and Gailey with their straight forward approach, it has only resulted in more loses so it all sounds like guff to me.

Donte is a good football player, but he has always been a liability in the passing game and other teams know it. The Bills need to fix that and the same goes for Kelsey, who can’t cover a TE to save his life.

    Don't forget Poz as well.

  11. Just for fun, let's weigh in on who you would have taken at each pick knowing who was off the board. So for each pick you can take anybody from the player we picked through our next pick. I really like Buddy's draft, so I am not up in arms complaining. As Cannon and Mallett sit on the New England bench for different reasons, I think we will like our actual draft better than mine. But now is the time to state who you wanted at each pick for the historical record :) (For example, I wanted Ngata over Whitner, but I wanted Lynch over Revis and would have wasted a 2nd on Claussen).

R1 #3 (Dareus DT) My pick: SAME

R2 #34 (Williams CB) My Pick: Akeem Ayers LB

R3 #68 (Sheppard LB) My Pick: Ryan Mallett QB

R4 #100 (Searcy DB) My Pick: Luke Stocker TE

R4 #122 (Hairston OT) My Pick: House Daven DB

R5 #133 (J. White RB) My Pick: Marcus Cannon OT

R6 #169 (C. White LB) My Pick: Quan Sturdivant LB

R7 #206 (Rogers DB) My Pick: SAME (what do I know in the 7th)

R7 #245 (Jasper DT) My Pick: SAME (what do I know in the 7th)

In round 2 I would have gone Justin Houston or Brooks Reed.

I probably would have drafted one more OL pick than we did.

I'm not familiar with the later round picks but if Jasper can be coached up

he could be a monster at DT or Guard. He seems more athletic than Jamie Nails.

  12. Why? Ryan Fitzpatrick is our guy, we have a vet who knows our system in Brian Brohm and a guy entering his second season with Levi Brown.

Bringing in Jimmy Clausen, Brady Quinn, Kyle Orton, Kevin Kolb would only serve to undermine Fitz in '11. If Fitz goes down then we can bring in someone off waivers, an undrafted rookie free agent or someone's practice squad.

Fitz turns 29 in November he's still got 4-6 years of elite level play in front of himself if he stays healthy and plays well he's our best hope to win in 2011. If Fitz goes down our season is lost and we'll be looking at a high draft pick in 2012.

It's about winning games. You get the best QB available and let the competition determine who the starter will be.

Fitz has never played at an elite level. He has played at an acceptable level. If Orton or Young is available I would bring one in.

He has progressively gotten better and has showed that he can win games.

  13. Is Fitz perfect? No. Is he a great QB? No. Is he a pretty good QB who gives us a chance to win? Yes.

In his first game of 2010, AT New England, he put us in a position to tie in the final minutes.

AT Baltimore, he put on a show and had us in position to win. The D surrendered the win in OT.

AT Kansas City, he took us to OT against the Chiefs. The D surrendered the win in OT.

Against Chicago, we were tied in the final minutes. The D surrendered a game-ending field goal.

He led us to victory against the Lions.

He led an epic come-from-behind thumping of the Bengals in Cincy.

He took us to OT against the Super Bowl Steelers and had a perfectly thrown ball to Stevie in OT to win it...dropped.

He got wins over Cleveland and Miami.

Yes, I'm cherry-picking stats. Yes, our 4 wins came against mediocre teams. But our close losses came against playoff teams.

Wins are what matters, which is why I'm not giving him credit for being a champion. But there were A LOT of units that let this team down, and in a majority of the cases, it wasn't our quarterback.

We need a star QB, but Andy Dalton and Ryan Mallett aren't stars. We have enough "average," thank you.

We have gotten so use to losing that people look at loses to good teams as victories. Fitz needs to improve but I agree with Gailey and Nix we need a veteran as a backup. Let make sure that we can get a good one that will give Fitz a run for his money.

  14. This draft is showing me the bills have a commitment to playing defense next year. KUDOS to Nix and Gailey for addressing true NEED.

Great to see us getting quality defensive players. We still have to score points, I want to see how they address an anemic offense. Seems like they are much better informed than last year.

  15. Wouldn't surprise me to see him go undrafted.

I agree he is very over rated and small. But someone will draft him probably in the late 4th or 5th round. Hopefully not by us. I would rather see a small school high motor guy ala Moats get a shot at ILB.

  16. This kid scares me. Trent with speed ? When I watch him run he looks Timid. Newton does not. Not that I`m a Newton fan. Gabbert is said to get nervous with pressure also. Not good with our line. Please draft D,Darius ,Fairley or Miller. I have a strong feeling it`s going to be Newton or Gabbert . Will we ever get another 1st round pick right?

Think Rob Johnson. He may become a good QB but the big knock on him is that he doesn't produce.

He has all the tools but he just doesn't produce. Not a big Newton fan but he does produce.

I'm all for Von Miller, he has produced in a 4-3 and 3-4 over the past 2 seasons.

Trust me the better QB will be drafted first.

  17. If true, then I am about to turn in my fan card. Newton, in my opinion, is the most likely to be a

bust in this whole class. Forget all the off-field red-flags. Name ONE thing that he did at Auburn

that translates to NFL QB success. He was a runner first, didn't make line calls, didn't have to read

defenses and threw mainly to receivers who were wide open because defenses needed to sell out

to stop Newton's running. I contend that NFL defenses will not have to sell out so much to stop

Newton from running. I also think that Newton, who hasn't had to make quick passing decisions

in college, would really struggle having to make decisions even quicker than most NFL QBs behind

    Buffalo's weak OL.

I should be clear, though, that my main concerns with Newton also involve the academic fraud

(3x) that he had in college. I think that is a big red-flag at a position where work-ethic is

paramount. We've heard all the "he has to be the first in the building and last to leave" statements

about QBs. I am not very confident that is Newton when he recently had others do his work.

Further, the computer theft that most agree he was able to skate away from is a red-flag. He can't

help a NFL team if he is suspended or in jail.

All he does is win Championships.....

  18. I'm not big on Newton or Gabbert. Newton would be the pick based on the fact that he has played better football last year. Gabbert is all hype I think he is the bust of the 1st round. He is a second round talent. Mallet will be better. With that being said I like the Von Miller pick. He has delivered over the years and reminds me of Biscuit. If not Miller, Cam Jordan should be the pick, a lot of teams have an eye on him. 2nd round should be a defensive pick as well.

If we do have free agency I would focus on a veteran back up QB.
