  1. This is the best safety combination we have had in years. Although Byrd doesn't have the pic's he had in his rookie season, he goes for the ball. He strips the ball better than anyone on defense. Make no mistake he all but pimp slapped Maclin. Wilson dominated the game like I have never seen Whitner do. To be honest if you line him up at receiver he would probably be very good. After Barnett's touchdown I was wonder if anyone truly missed Poz and Whitner. We still have a long way to go but the defense played aggresive when needed. Need to mix up the blitz packages better and play more consistant but we have some thing to build on.

  2. 1 Merriman - If he comes back 90% to what he was no one else on this squad can touch him. Williams is decent but doesn't have near the

natural ability. Doesn't dominate like Merriman can.

2 Dareus / Williams - Both seem to be solid Dareus has to prove himself. Williams is the working man's hero. Dareus has a higher ceiling.

3 Fred Jackson - When are we going to give him credit. A funny thing happen to Marshawn Lynch's rise to stardom...Fred Jackson

Honorable mention goes to Stevie Johnson, Eric Wood, and George Wilson and Barnett.

    That's it.

  3. They probably are.. right now. Buddy is building a roster of young twenty somethings instead of cutting them for old over the hill guys. And with the salary floor in 2013, the guys they are growing now hopefully will be rewarded with good second contracts. The approach makes sense, just means not too many wins this year as the roster is grown and matures. If this year and next years drafts work out, we could be OK two seasons from now...

This philosophy applies every year for Bills fans...problem is we are always building for a future that never arrives.

Bringing in a veteran may not be the worst thing for a young team lacking leadership and talent. So far Buddy has not produced, until he does it is not a philosophy for success.

  4. I expect a career year from Lee with Flacco throwing.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

If Nix traded him to give a chance with a contender then my hat is off to him as well.

Maybe Nix should try building a contender instead of trading his best players so they can play for one, if indeed that was the case.

    Always a Lee Evans fan.

  5. I'm in Richmond VA. I thought either the Bills made a trade to make the offensive line better or an earthquake. The odds clearly pointed to an earthquake. The Bills would never make a smart trade. Surprising how far this was felt.

  6. Looking at it from a team perspective, they own it now. As much as I was glad to see the end of the Levy/Jauron era, it's beginning to look like the good ole days. The teams were better than what we are seeing now, though that's not saying much. We were always a 7-9 team. I was glad to the change from Levy/Jauron but I can't say I didn't have a few WTF moments when I heard Nix and Gailey were the new GM and HC. In fairness when Nix and Gailey would make decisions I would talk myself into thinking that we should give them a fair shot and they were making the right decisions......The fact of the matter is they are not very aggressive in making personnel moves to make the team better. You don't just build through the draft, you build anyway you can. This should be a make or break year because we will clearly see what direction they are taking the team. I'm not saying that they should win the Superbowl but I at least expect to see a better product than what Levy and Jauron have put on the field and so far I haven't.

  7. I see this as Chan's wake up call to everyone that he expects more from everyone. He stressed this several times this week in how disappointed he was with the interior guys. Now is the time to shake things up. I do believe Levitre will back with the starters soon.

You're probably right but the reality is that our OL is average at best. The only one worth keeping is Wood, and he is the best of an average bunch.

Levetre is very versitile being able to play more than one position but he is small and gets pushed more than often at the point of attack (like most Levy drafted players). He is average in pass blocking and so-so in the run game.

The OL is the next area of a talent upgrade. Does Buddy and Chan take a shot at upgrading now or will they wait until next year. Lets hope they move now but I would be shocked if they did.

  8. What took him so long to sign? Probably wanted more money. I since a bad attitude here. No doubt a locker room cancer with his lengthy holdout. He also said there was no nightlife in Buffalo. Let see if we trade him for a 2nd round pick.

  9. This team is not going to change over night with this free agency....Id rather let our draft picks play from last year and this year. Anyone who thinks we are going to be a good team this year is kidding themselves. Let our youngsters learn on the fly and we will be a better team for it. Grab our franchise qb in next years draft and in 2 years we will be back to being competitive.

Problem is, we have been on the two year plan for the last 5 years. Some teams can actually turn it around in two. For some reason we can't. Tomorrow never gets here let alone two years from now. Not saying this years FA's would make a difference but the years down the road philosphy is a win later instead of a win now philosophy and thats what the fans are getting tired of.

  10. Because they offered him ridiculous money and a defensive alignment in which he's more comfortable.

It nice to see Poz get paid but his below average abilty in the 4/3 had a lot of fans feeling he would better in a 3/4...wrong.

Burnett gets hurt but he is tougher and more of a hitter than Poz.

  11. A few Poz points

I remember 2 years ago when we were playing a 4-3 defense everyone said that the 4-3 really didn't fit Poz strong points he would be better in a 3-4. Last year in a 3-4 people were saying this defense doesn't fit his strong points and he needs better players around him. It doesn't seem like any defense really fits him. You know you are not very good when people say you need netter players around you. Good players make players around them better.

-Poz came in the league I didn't see where he was an improvement over his backup John DiGiorgio I actually thought DiGiorgio was better. -

-When he was injured Ellison seemed to make just as many tackles.

-We have been soft in the middle ever since he has been there.

-The kicker for me is that when Poz is out our defense doesn't miss a beat. No matter what scrub they replace him with.

Its time to seriously move beyond mediocrity and let Poz take his talents elsewhere. Do not be surprised to see Chris White as the Poz replacement and improve the position. Anyone that can tackle good, fill the gaps (something Poz has yet to figure out), and has average instincts will improve the position.

  12. They're better than the CFL unis, but I had hoped for better. Maybe it's just the whole snug-fit thing I have a problem with.

Maybe I'll like 'em more when I see them close up. I hope so.

You nailed it. I'm trying to convince myself that I like them more than I do. I was thinking something that resembled the throwbacks. I would have loved the throwbacks with the red helmets or just go back to the 90's uni's. Maybe once I see them on the field they will look better.

  13. The amazing thing about this board is how certain players are loved to a ridiculous level while others are ripped with consistency.

POZ is an average linebacker who cannot cover anyone in pass coverage and who makes most of his tackles after runners have passed him by. Like all too many of the D players drafted over the last ten years he is not an aggressive player and seems unable to beat the blocks plus he is fragile.

Yes, he sells a lot of jersey's ... yes, he's popular and a team player ... and yes, we need to sign him inspite of all the above weaknesses because we just don't have the bodies at ILB until our rookies mature and establish themselves as more than just good PR stories.

When I read about this year's picks and look at last year's (Batten and Moats plus Coleman too) what I am seeing are players with a remarkedly different on-the-field attitude from POZ. These guys are aggressive ball hawks who are team leaders and intelligent. Although I haven't done it, yet, I'd love to compare game film of Moats and Poz from last year to see which of those two guys was moving towards the ball the most. I have a feeling that our rookie was the better player on the field most of the time.

So ... don't toss out your POZ jersey yet ... keep showing him the love ... and maybe with our new front line POZ will be able to rise above mediocrity!

    +1

  14. In my opinion Juice was the second best RB of all time when in his prime. Only Jim Brown was better.

He will never get the full credit he deserves because for some it's hard to seperate the football from his personal life.

When OJ touched the ball he was always a threat to take it to the house. I never saw anyone catch him from behind. I remember on NFL network on a show where they highlight top 10 regular season performances and they had the gull to rank Eric Dickerson's 2000 season ahead of OJ's even though it took him 2 more games to do it.

Thurman was great clearly #2. Joe Cribbs was 3rd but he cut short his own greatness going for the USFL bucks. Cookie was great and the first Bill I remember...he just wasn't here that long.

  15. As someone who is almost 30, i like the red helmets much better. The white standing buffalo helmets are cool, but i like the red charging Buffalo. Plus, we were 1 of only 2 teams with red helmets. Everyone has white helmets.

What exactly makes the whites more "classy" than the red?

    +1

Love the new uni's but the white helmets are very run of the mill like the some of the other teams.

I look at the teams with the white background on the helmets (Dolphins, Jets, Colts, Cardinals). They are among the most un imaginative and generic looking in the league. They just dont stand out. The Patriots and Buccaneers helmets are much better since they have moved away from the white background. As an old Bills fan getting away from the white helmets meant a change from the losing tradition we had wearing them. We had very few winning records wearing the white helmet. Either way it's about the team and not the helmets. Would love to see them start a winning tradition with the new uni's.

  16. Who is Deon Saunders? Byrd had 3 forced fumbles this past season...Ask Peyton Hillis what he thinks of Byrd's tackling.

Last year as the season progressed I saw Byrd making hits and stripping the football. Though he wasn't the pic machine of the year before I really like where his game is going. I think you will see more turnovers created by him this year than he had in his first season.

  17. Why would a person with Buffalo ties buy the Bills and move them? Interesting that this is coming out now. Maybe Ralph doesn't think he has much time left and is getting the word out.

    For the money....

Maybe this guy is a ghost buyer so to speak with strong LA ties. This type of thing is very common in business.

    I wouldn't trust it.
