  1. Maybe Gailey needs to start getting the most out of himself and become a big league head coach.

I would like to see him stop the stupid wildcat plays that gives the other team momentum.

I would like to see him go with the hot hand when it comes to running backs. CJ is having the best 1st quarter since joining the Bills... enter Tashard Choice???

Wouldn't it be nice if the Bills came into a game prepared.

It would be nice if he and Nix could start evaluating talent much better. Pears, Fitzpatrick and Kelsay

have become the problem and an insult to players with talent that are looking for a fair deal.

  2. I'm with ya dude.

What I found to be more inappropriate than anything SJ did on Sunday was that stupid lineman even referencing 9-11. Talk about a stretch. Give me a break.

    [/quote

Glad to know I'm not the only one that feels this way. People forget the fact that the team they were playing is called the Jets. It doesn't go any deeper than that.

Stevie clearly wants to be known as a character. I don't mind that but I would love to be able refer to him as somebody that can catch the ball in a critical situations, but when I think of SJ I think of the drops more than the catches.

  3. How could Chan use Spiller and Fred effectively, or not misuse Fred to the point of "burning him out" (btw, a bone break isn't because he was getting overused and burned out :wallbash: )

The last time Chan tried to use Spiller more and give him extra carries, Fred and his Fanboys threw tantrums because Fred wasn't considered the "Starter" in a preseason game. If Fred and everyone gets so upset he isn't getting as many carries as possible in the preseason, how can you expect the coach to share carries in the regular season when stats count???

Fred is hurt, it sucks, but in football, guys get hurt, most teams have a few serious injuries.

Kyle Williams makes up part of a very poor core of the Bills team, and he is non impact and high motor without obvious talent? Fitz too??????

Not the core of a winner..

  4. Your right, just ask players like Kelsay, Fitz, Kyle Williams. They will all tell you that Buffalo thinks they can't re-sign players and prefer to just let guys walk

They have resigned these players but these guys make up a very poor core of your team and the Bills should be signing good core players. The Bills clearly have a thing for these non impact high motor guys as opposed to players with obvious talent. Fred obviously is not high motor enough.

Jackson was on his way to being the only true clear cut starting probowler that we have had in a while.

Byrd had a good year but we were not sure until the voting that he would make it. The same with Kyle Wms and it helped Kyle that others players backed out, but Fred was dominant.

  5. I agree, pay the man! There is no doubt he was misused by Gailey from the stand point that Chan was burning him out. There was no doubt he was going to get banged up I just didn't think it would happen this soon. I think we will see CJ improve dramatically over the next few games. I do think the Bills will use this as an excuse not to pay him. At the end of the season Fred's stats will be unfair to him and the Bills will take advantage, not saying Fred won't get a new contract but it will not be as lucrative. I'm always amazed that some players have to proved themselves for years and still not get a good deal while some players get a great deal without proving themselves for a full season.

  6. The last two drafts have not yielded much talent. Dareus is a stud, but the 3rd pick would have been tough to mess up. Otherwise, Nix has not brought in much talent at all. Merriman was a terrible mistake. Smith was idiotic. He does get some props for Barnett, but otherwise the Bills are both thin and not terribly talented. There is a reason Nix didn't get a GM job until he hit 70. With the AFC being so mediocre this year the Bills would have had a shot if Nix had done a halfway decent job.

I understand what your saying but I'm not if we just don't have the talent or the coaching. Merriman was a very good deal for the money. When he is in the game he has to accounted for. I am glad we still have him under contract. The defense has not been the same since he has been out. It gone from bad to worse. I agree with the rest of your points. When you look at his long term signings Kelsay, Williams, and Fitpaycheck this is not a core thats going to win games. The coaching is poor offensively and defensively. So good talent will never be developed. The only true talent we have had in years is Fred Jackson and contractually he is being treated like garbage. The jury is still out on this years draft but last years draft was not a quality draft. Carrington has showed potential and thats it.

  7. I love sports in general but the Bills are it. My sports allegiance lies within the cities I have lived in and actually have gone to games on a regular basis. Football-Bills and Redskins, Basketball- Washington Wizards, Hockey - Sabres and the Caps somewhat, Baseball - Baltimore Orioles. After growing up in Buffalo the Bills are the clear favorite of all of the teams. No team makes me happier or pisses me off more than the Bills. College sports doesn't cut it unless we are talking the championship games. I am a boxing fan but there is no one out there now that is worth a damn especially in the Heavyweight division.

  8. THEY DIDN'T LET HIM GO.

They were desperately trying to resign him, expected to, and were devasted when he left. So, if you're right about Poz as a player, than it is an indictment of OBD for trying so hard to keep him...

They have cap room so they could have offered more but management was smart to not up the anti. As far as being an indictment of OBD, I thought the Kelsay signing was the true indictment there. This organization is so use to being below average that when an average talent that looks to be a step up but still average comes along, they throw money at him. The real truth is that you can get a better talent than Poz off the waiver wire as Nick Barnett is.

  9. By all accounts, Posluszny is having a spectacular year for the Jags, whose defense is ranked fourth overall in yards allowed and 6th overall in points allowed. Last year, they were 28th in yards given up and 27th in points allowed. Obviously, that's a huge improvement. Through 9 games, Poz has 72 tackles, 6 passes defensed, 1 INT, and 3 stuffs. I'm certainly not regretting spending money on Nick Barnett, but given how much cap room the Bills had, I'm starting to think that they should have ponied up to keep Posluszny as well. Despite what the naysayers think, he's a good starting NFL LB, and lord knows, it's not as if they didn't have the money to keep him. After Barnett (71 tackles, 1 sack, 3 passes defensed, and 4 stuffs), productivity among Bills LBs is truly pathetic, and the safeties are racking up most of the tackles. Sometimes you've gotta spend money to improve ...

I think one of the smartest moves made by Gailey/Nix was letting Poz go. Poz will always be a stat guy but when you watch the games you get a true since of what he brings and how he brings it. Barnett is much more of an impact player. Poz is soft. As much love as the Bills fans showed him it is clear the scheme or the chance to be on a winner influenced him more. We deserve a better talent in order to improve. I wouldn't mind going back to the 4-3. With another draft and free agency season we should be able to improve remarkably.

  10. Yea, those SB rings from when he was GM of the Redskins must suck.

Keep in mind Bobby Bethard was the GM of those SB Redskins teams. Charlie bacame GM in 89 just in time to beat the Bills in the SB but make no mistake Bethard was the builder of those teams. I lived in DC for years and Casserly is no fan favorite there.

With that being said I think Casserly is on point with the assessment of the Bills. Gailey devised a way for the Bills to win with out much talent at the OT positions now he has to build up the OT and WR positions while getting more talent in our pass rush. Other teams have figured the Bills out. It all comes to building up the trenches.

  11. Not making excuses but Fitz sucked badly. Maybe he was paid too soon. The offensive line didn't look prepared, it took them two possessions to get into the game. Did they look at any film this week?

The secondary was bad and the 3rd down defense in general was awful. Donald Jones makes me miss Lee Evans. Will no doubt need to draft a speed guy with hands. But all of the above was better than the coaching. I clearly didn't understand the play calling logic.

If a team is defending the screen well then you should stop calling the screen and call something else. We need to develop something other than a short game.

At the beginning of the season I was hoping for 8 or 9 wins not sure we will get there.

  12. I posted in another topic how the Bills offense has almost gotten obsessive about getting the ball out quickly.

This is generally viewed as a good thing but when taken to the extreme, I think it has its downside. Witness the last game against the Jets where Fitz was pressured but never sacked. By becoming fixated on avoiding the sack (risk), it seems to me that the Bills O is minimizing the amount of possible chunk yardage (reward) on passing downs.

With no true field-stretching receiver, an average-armed quarterback, an offensive line missing its two top left tackles, and a mandate to throw the ball quickly, defenses are not under pressure from the Bills offense. They know that they can overplay the first two seconds of each pass play as an effective means of shutting down the Bills aerial attack.

This same scenario is playing out in New England this year as the Welker/Tight End oriented offense is becoming less and less effective as teams clamp down on Brady and company.

There is only one way an offense can counter this "pressure and press coverage" strategy.

Like Aaron Rodgers or Big Ben, at some point it becomes incumbent on the quarterback to rely on his feet to extend plays to force defensive breakdowns.

Via coaching/play calling, Fitz has to be given leeway to ad lib, allowing for longer developing plays that enable receivers to employ double moves and burn the defense for overplaying the front end of downs.

The second part of this strategy to mobilize Fitz is to encourage him to run from time to time. If defenders are playing man instead of zone (which has been a growing tendency by Bills opponents), then it's easier for a quarterback to exploit the defense with scrambles. More defenders have their backs turned to the line of scrimmage.

Here are some numbers I searched out that shows that Fitz is relying less and less on his good mobility to attack defenses:

2011: 260 pass attempts to 22 rushing attempts, scramble on 7.8% of pass plays, 2.8 carries per game, 6.6 rushing yards/game

2010: 441 pass attempts to 40 rushing attempts, scramble on 8.3% of pass plays, 3.1 carries per game, 20.7 rushing yards/game

2009: 227 pass attempts to 31 rushing attempts, scramble on 11.9% of pass plays, 3.1 carries per game,14.1 rushing yards per game

2008: 372 pass attempts to 60 rushing attempts, scramble on 13.9% of pass plays, 4.6 rushes per game, 23.4 rushing yards per game

One or two scrambles for first downs or long throws on coverage breakdowns resulting from Fitz extending the play would make a world of difference in making the Bills offense much more difficult for teams to shut down.

Good points a few more that I have noticed.

Fitz is a mobile QB but I haven't seen any plays designed to move the pocket.

We need a 1-2 punch in the back field. Fred Jackson and the rb position is being mismanaged. Braxton got carries behind OJ. Davis got carries behind Thurman but CJ can't get carries behind Jackson. If Gailey keeps running him the way he does Jackson will be banged up in no time.

  13. did Spiller play ?????

The way CJ is being handled is one of he thing I don't agree with Gailey on. Most teams try to develop a 1-2 punch with the running backs. Jackson has been great but no reason CJ can't get 5-7 touches from the backfield. It seems as though Gailey has abandon this approach and that makes it easier for teams to game plan against and it keeps CJ from developing as fast.

    Jones and Martin can't catch

Neither has the hands to be on the field during critical times.

Neither has shown the ability to go after the ball.

Neither has shown the ability to makes things happen after the catch.

Roosevelt is better suited for now but next years draft has to provide us a long term solution here.

Jones deserves a chance to develop but Martin should be planning for his retirement.

  14. Donte who?

    Poz who? Aaron who?

Last year clearly seemed to be an year of evaluation. Chan and Buddy practically gave away the first four games figuring out that Fitz and FJ were better than Capt Checkdown and Beastmode.

Lets face it losing Poz, Donte, Maybin, Trent, and Marshawn was clearly addition by subtraction for us. I don't think we have made up the slack for Evans yet.

  15. I live close enough to Washington that we have a mix of foreskin fans and baltimore browns fans. It is true that the majority feel of the redskins is a bunch of entitled, wealthy, government, we-are-the-elite and better-than-you fans(?), who consider their season tickets as a status and royality-status indicator, just like their kids private schools and country club memberships. UGGG.

Drive through DC city some time and you realize there are a ton of fans that could never afford the seasons tickets but are true blue fans just as Bills fans. Nothing elite about it. But no matter where you are your season ticket holders will be your most elite fan base (Not implying they are elite in some cases).

  16. I was listening to Washington sports talk radio yesterday. The were blasting Orakpo saying that he just doesn't play the run. All day Buffalo ran right at him and nothing. They called him a 3rd down player. They predict Frank Gore will have a field day running at Orakpo. They can not stand Kyle Shanahan but they know he is part of a package deal with dad saying he will never get a head coaching job based on what they have seen from him. They are tired of the Shanahan experiment saying he is a poor evaluator of talent and coaching. It's interesting on this board there was so much talk about Orakpo and Shanahan and now they are the center of the Redskin scrutiny. We are clearly better off at this point.

  17. Honestly, I think they should have given Spiller the rock for a series or two near the end of the game. Maybe using the wildcat with Smith running the ball to run the clock down was sort of the same thing. We should spell Jackson more.

I agree, as I said in another post, if the Bills could find a way to give Kenny Davis snaps when he was backing Thurman, they should be able to give CJ a few touches. In the 4th quarter Jackson looked as though his tank was running low. Why not put a fresh body in there.

  18. The steelers game last year KW single handedly destroyed. It was more impressive than Dareus today.

PS Dareus is a total beast, cant wait till KW is back, but also Moats and Spencer J and Edwards all played well.

Williams played great in the Pittsburgh game. As I said I have never seen Williams dominate like Dareus (a rookie) did today. Dareus made the whole line play better. By the way this is a great discussion to have. Gailey has the ingredients to create pressure on oppposing QB's. Though it does help that we were playing against a bad QB today.

Before the game I was concerned about lining without Merriman or Williams. My concern has been delayed for a week.

  19. The man did a good job! I was worried about Williams being out, but the Dareus, Edwards, Johnson combo worked quite well. I'll be happy when K. Williams come back, but I am relieved to see Dareus playing this well as a rookie.

I have never seen Williams dominate like Dareus did today. If Dareus continues to play as he did today I would keep him as the NT and move Williams to the end. Dareus looks better at the position and made everyone else look better as well.

  20. It better not be Cam Newton, especially if Dalton keeps destroying him where it counts - wins - on a much worse team.

Make no mistake Cam is clearly the better QB on a worse team. In fact take away a tuck rule and a few other bad calls, Dalton's record would be a little different. Just because you may hate Newton, lets not falsely justify Dalton being better.

Farmer, Cincinnati is 2nd in the league in defense.

Cinci weapons: One of the best young O-lines in football. Bruising running back Cedric Benson. Elite WR talent AJ Green. Outstanding young TE Jermaine Gresham. Good offensive depth players.

Dalton's team is much better than Newton's, IMO.

It's funny to me that many people here view the Bills loss at Cinci as some sort of failure by the Bills… as if we're gonna go on the road and beat good football teams every week.

The only fault I see of the Bills in this loss was the absence of the blitz. Rookie QB's should get blitzed...period. Our defensive coordinator(s) should have given him the Mike Vick treatment. Our defense played up against Brady and Vick. I'm noticing our defense tends to play down or with less intensity with lesser QB's

  21. Too much was made about Fitz's interceptions being "lack of" arm strength. This is BS. On the 2nd INT he was literally backpedaling and threw off his back foot. He did not set his feet at all. Terrible mechanics and the only national media person I heard point this out was Tony Dungy. It may have been b/c the Giants pass rush was in his head. On his first INT, it was not as blatant but he still did not set his feet and throw. This is stuff that is taught at the high school level. I'm sure FItz and coaches will break down his mechanics over the next 2 weeks. I suspect he will overthrow guys in the 2nd half of the season so to not let this happen again. Hope not but I wouldn't be surprised.

If you notice Fitz tends to throw off of his back foot a lot. Even when he is having a vey good day he throws off of his back foot. This was an observation a group of friends and I noticed when watching the Bills play KC in the season opener.

  22. 1) Could there be a Bills fan who isn't thrilled by David Nelson? The kid continues to get seperation from defenders and make plays. I will go out on a limb and say that I would rather have him on my football team than Lee Evans at this point. Blast away but one of them consistently gets open, and it ain't Evans.

    2) Btw, on Freddie J's 80 yarder to the house, Spiller ran downfield with him and blocked. I appreciate effort like this.

    3) I am all about Gailey as a coach, but he REALLY screwed up by not running the football late in the 2nd qtr. What was it? 2nd and 5? We attempted 2 passes and were knocked out of field goal range. This while up by 4, and getting the football to start the second half. That was an out and out horror show.

    4) Daddy made whiskey and he made it well. Cost 2 dollars and burned like hell. I cut hickory just to fire the still. Drink a bottle and get ready to kill.

    5) I am all about Gailey as a coach, and his decision to go for the field goal at the end of the half really did work. I thought it was a dumb decision, and even expected to miss the kick.

    6) Did you people see the block by Urbik on the 80 yd. TD run by Freddie? He moved the entire defense to the left, and btw Pears (who I will get back to) finished off the play. This is essentially a large portion of what I have always wanted the Bills to do.

    7) On the 3rd qtr. td by Manningham, Carrington was in coverage. This made me cringe and think about the horror days of Dick Jauron. The guy must weight 290. He blocked a field goal. It is NEVER OK for a human like this to be in coverage. Period.

    8) For the third time.....I am all about Gailey as a coach. But can someone tell me why we were throwing with 4:14 left in the game? We were in position to run, score and win. The truth is that Gailey, (as much as I indicated 3 times that I like him), lost us this football game. You want to blame Fitz? Go ahead, but in my opinion he was doing what he was told to do. And yes, the pick Fitz threw in the 3rd quarter was a flat out awful play. There was ZERO chance of completion, and I mean none at all. I expect more from him. But I don't blame him for this loss.

    9) Drayton Florence was awful today with the penalties. It was clearly his worst game as a Buffalo Bill. We can't afford this. If it keeps up they will draft another first round corner. OMG!

    10) Number 4? Well, I was thinking of posting Grateful Dead lyrics in my weekly post. Actually, I thought that the Dead were just that, but John Kadlecik brought them back with "Furthur." And I will be at MSG to see them in November.

    11) Pears, and for that matter Hairston showed us just how important it is to devote major resources to the OT position. Pears had his worst game as a Bill. It wasn't cold, but the winds were strong. There will never be a time where running the football and blocking will not play a major role in the Buffalo Bills football team, and I mean f^&%#%g never.

    12) Sorry, but Batten didn't measure up to our hopes in terms of providing any pass rush. I hope that he picks up his game. Dareus? He is a monster.

    13) 4-2 isn't so bad. We have 2 weeks to heal our wounds, and for Gailey to regroup. A win in 2 weeks would put us right back on track. People, enjoy your "off week" lol!

    14) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On your first point, I don't think we have anyone on this team that can run a go route as good as Lee Evans. This was a game we could have used him providing the throws to him would be accurate. The go route was there today big time. Don't get me wrong I love what David Nelson brings but as witnessed against Cincy, Philly and Giants we have a hard time stretching the field. I smell a big and quick receiver coming in the draft.
