Ralphie just said that "Denver panicked"
Logical Reasoning replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The guys a hall of famer and a great person because we all know that he could he moved the Bills, but those comments were unnecessary and foolish. Losman and McCargo weren't panic picks?? -
I don't think anyone could hate the pick because the guy is really talented and certainly a difference maker. But Lynch and Jackson are really good backs and we have really glaring weaknesses in other places.
-
This guy is a playmaker, incredibly elusive and fast, and can change field position for sure, but we have two backs that are very good and McKelvin who can return kicks along with McGee. He may have been the best player on the board and he may be a great back for years to come but I am we are not lacking as a team in the skills he provides where we have tremendous glaring weaknesses. Getting the best players on the field does not mean having one on the bench. Gotta question this pick unless there is a plan to trade Lynch.

Things I don't want to hear from Buddy
Logical Reasoning posted a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"He's a football player" Thanks Buddy. That's nice to know but the real translation is that he lacks talent but he likes the game. It would be nice to get someone who both likes to play the game and also has talent. "He's versatile." Once again ok. Better lucky than good sometimes with Wood at center, Byrd and CB, and Levitre at tackle, but I might suggest getting someone who can specialize. Translation is that he is pretty good at the position that we drafted him in but we'd rather have guys who are average at two positions that spectacular at one. "He's good at the point of attack" This is actually a good thing, but there truly is nothing in football that does not relate to 'point of attack'. Translation is that he should be better than the guy he is hitting when he hits him. OK, we'll see. "He is the guy we were targeting" Translation is that I don't want to admit that the real guy we wanted was off the board but this guy is someone that was on our board also. I didn't always get what I wanted for Christmas (the Santa at the Roycroft never came through compared to the Santa at the Galleria) and I don't expect you to get all of the guys you are targeting. I'm a big boy Buddy. I actually like the guy but some of those sayings don't need to be said. There will be enough videos on youtube and other sites to provide most football fans with enough stuff to come up with their own conclusions. -
It could be argued that last years draft actually filled some voids and filled them quite well. When you look at Byrd and Lankster, you have two good players that made an average secondary better. Wood and Levitre, assuming Wood has no improvement from last year which would be fine considering what he's gone through, at least made the interior manageable and held their own against Wilfork and Jenkins when they played. I like the speed of Nelson and another year under his belt and Schouman is pretty good and the running backs are solid. Last year, some voids were filled and filled well through the draft. Playoff teams take some time to build this way and free agency this year got us an average linebacker and an average or slightly above defensive lineman so we've patched some holes. Receiver, offfensive tackle, defensive lineman, and quarterback are the main holes which everyone who goes to this website already knows. If the Bills can solidify two of those four the way they did with Byrd for example, they are still not an elite team but at least moving in the right direction and a possible playoff spot. Fill three of them and well and they are in the playoffs.
-
We filled a defensive line and middle linebacker positions with solid players and got a depth player at offensive tackle so I wouldn't say we haven't played in the offseason sweepstakes. The Jets deserve credit for doing everything they have to improve their team which was very good last year, but our movement and improvement will be off the draft which is how the good teams have done it. The other teams in the AFC East are ahead of us because they have drafted better than we have during the last three or four years (and possibly longer) not because of they have had better free agency periods.
-
The free agency/draft part of the year is in itself a season that builds in excitement until the draft and I always waited patiently while the Bills moved or did something exciting. When Marv purchased the two offensive lineman three years ago, it was pretty exciting because it was a giant hole and the word was that Losman would be the quarterback we drafted him to be if we put a strong line in front of him but we all know what happened with that. The truth is that besides Bryce Paup, I cannot remember anyone who had a large impact on our team. Walker and Dockery were good fits but they were too expensive for their talent level and did not improve on what little talent they had. These are just a couple of examples of bad ones but Mitchell and the cornerback that we picked up from SD (name?) had a great year once he moved into the starting lineup so there are some good players, but the truth of the matter is that most free agents don't have much impact on the teams that they go to and the teams that they go to pay/overpay to get them. Now if you were to take ten scouts that really understood college/professional football and you were going to pay them mileage for their vehicle or buy them one and expense their gas, pay for plane tickets, hotels, college game tickets and research hourly time, how much do you think that could cost if you knew that the money you were investing in these extra scouts (in addition to the ones you have)? The answer is probably much less than a big time free agent like a Peppers or someone at his level. My point is that I would rather get the draft right by fronting the money and making sure that your picks are as perfect as you can make them, then spending money to fix the messes that you made in the draft. True Bills and football fans know that it is better to be patient and get a good fit than to fly off the handle and overpay someone that raises the bar and upsets the really talented players (Peters). Because the new administration is new, I will give them the benefit of my doubts but we have all been taken before and they better be aware that patience is going to be thin with the draft choices and free agents.

I saw the post on the Left Tackle and with more teams going to a 3-4, the difference is the skills/talent between a tackle, a guard and a center is minimal. A weakness is a weakness no matter where he is lining up. Sure the blindside is important but if you are getting beat, your te can chip off the line. If your guard and center are getting beat by lets say a Jenkins from the Jets or a Wilfork from the Pats, your quarterback is still going to struggle especially when he can't step up in the pocket. I have never accepted the argument that the blindside lineman is so much more valuable than the other lineman that the position warrants its own nickname. If the Bills miss out on the best offensive tackles at nine and they think they can move down and get Iupatai (sp), do or don't even move down if you think he is the best.
-
What kind of expert are you? "It will happen". Your confidence is nice but it shows off your general personal insecurities more than your knowledge of football. Tone it down a bit and think about what you are saying.
-
It is hard to argue with what you are saying because until they come up with a free agent who steps up and plays better than what is expected from the paycheck, the Bills are going to have to take what you say and eat it. As a Bills fan, you are hoping to eat crow, but you never know. However, I am not sure what options the Bills have right now considering the questions with Wood. He is certianly the key piece here. If he is not able to play, you better have some people who can step in and have started. As much as I do not like it, he does fit the needs and is not too expensive.
-
Sacks, tackles at the line of scrimage instead of five yards beyond, covering backs out of the backfield and some running backs. Everything else doesn't mean much. Wilfork bottles up the middle so it is tough to run, gets a big push to prevent stepping up in the pocket and he does not look like he is in good shape at all and there is not one of us who would not trade him for Maybin.

Don't be so defensive. It looks weak and they did not exactly fabricate any truths. -
draft options getting clearer
Logical Reasoning replied to Logical Reasoning's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is basically it. I said so, so that is it. Lay off the criticism during the off season. I agree that most of the board notes aren't good, but I have yet to see some thoughts about moving down or any justification for it. My personal opinion on Bradford is that he is very accurate, he could handle the pressure of being a first year starter and he is going to be very good for a long time. I don't see that in Clausen. -
It shouldn't take a Bills fan long to figure out that a move to a 3-4 defense is going to require some shuffling of the present players and some draft choices that would not normally have been thought of before the move to the 3-4. I feel that Bradford is worthy of a pick at nine and if he is there, you absolutely get him, but Clausen is not and you have too many needs to fill on both lines. An uncapped year approaches and Buffalo doesn't have the market or the ticket prices to support big named free agents. If our destiny is determined by the draft choices we simply need more than less. It could easily be argued that the success of a player taken with the top twenty choices could be as much a crap shoot as any roll of the dice. The rookies of the year were taken in the teens last year and Byrd, our guy, was taken in the second in a position he didn't play in college. We need veterans because every team needs to know what to do and where to go when things aren't going your way. If Wood gets healthy and Byrd keeps listening to Thurman on what is was like during the glory days, we have our leaders. Now we just need more players with talent. Anything besides moving up to get Bradford or getting him at our spot or moving down is foolish and arrogant.

The Refs actually called a very good game
Logical Reasoning replied to Heels20X6's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They had no impact on the final outcome. -
Gutsy call on fourth down which did not work by Peyton but the onside did and he made Manning sit for about an hour without the ball. You may not always get the onside kick or if your Belicheck, convert the fourth down and two on your own thirty-six with a minute plus in the fourth quarter (I think) against Indy which he got crushed in the media for because they did not make it, but you send a message to your team and the other team that we are going after this win with what we do best. Players want to play for coaches that go after it. There never would have been a comeback game without an onside kick and a fourth and five that became a touchdown. Is it fair that a gutsy call can make the same coach a genius or an idiot on the same play? Maybe not but if the onside kick is not successful and the Colts go on to win the game, you may lose but you lose without any questions and fully knowing that you did everything to win.

Quicker Turn Around Than most think
Logical Reasoning replied to Beastly Dareus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You have too many dominoes hitting but if some of stuff that you suggest happens, it will be better than what is presently there. Omon was tough I thought this year but he is not with Seattle. -
His teams were prepared for the games they played most of the time, but he wasn't going to win games as much as he was not going to lose them which was his ultimate downfall. You can't push that message to your players or they will begin to think too much instead of just play. It killed Edwards and it could possibly have an effect on the number of injuries although that may be a stretch. Good guy, understood the game very well and was not too far off from being a playoff type of coach but just didn't have the next piece of the puzzle that the guys who consistently get in have.

T.O. disses the B-Lo in Miami
Logical Reasoning replied to weehawk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dude, I live here and I am freezing. You should be embarassed by your oversensitivity. -
Along with most of you, I have no idea who these people are or what their credentials might be. They have NFL experience which is good but what I like about these hires is that they all seem to be asst. coaches and coordinators and not the head coach by delegate. This is contrary to some coaches who you actually don't know what they do out there. As an example, I went to some of the practices in Rochester and Jauron would just walk around not saying anything or doing anything. The other coaches and coordinators were yelling and screaming. I heard that Wade Phillips is the same way. Parcells and Bellichek get in your face and teach but with some serious authority. I want that guy. It looks like Chan is going to control the whole thing and run the show. Good coaches who have confidence in their vision and expectations want it that way. It may take some time to hit that vision as he is inheriting a team that is as strong as the economy was the day Obama took the oath, but at least he is putting himself in a situation where he is going to be completely accountable and responsible for the success or failure for the team.

Jet's Setting Trend
Logical Reasoning replied to Logical Reasoning's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What Bills fan who has been put through what we have been put through the past decade wouldn't accept a "not exactly awe inspiring" trip to the playoffs. It is not only what you have done but it is the direction that you are going. They got to the playoffs and their bandwagon tickets are getting more expensive every day. I think our secondary is very strong which limits them mostly to the run which we were pretty awful at last year. Poz is better than average but not by much. Mitchell, Ellison and Draft are ok but that area needs help and the DLine needs help because Ellis isn't going to do it and who knows what Maybin will do. I am not lying down to them by any stretch but we are either going to have to figure out how to stop what they do well or figure out we what are good at pretty quick. -
Jet's Setting Trend
Logical Reasoning replied to Logical Reasoning's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What I mean regarding the trend is that the Colts, Saints, Pats, and Chargers have passed to open up the run and not vice versa. If Sanchez doesn't lose them the game by throwing interceptions. They are going to be tough to beat unless you get up on them and take them out of their game. The option package with Smith has the possibility of a big play without the threat of a turnover. I am not lying down to these guys by any stretch and what is nice about shifts in play is that other team design the blueprint and everyone copies it. Let's hope we don't have to design the blueprint. -
Very strong offensive line that makes running the ball a priority. Two very strong running backs that make third and shorts possible and makeable. Young quarterback with good arm who has learned via the Bills when to throw the ball away and/or take a sack. Strong option package with durable and young option quarterback. The Jets don't hide what they are doing too much. They seem to let you know and beat you at their game. Same thing with their blitzing on defense. Two excellent one on one cover guys allow lots of flexibility with blitzes. Jets believe in the philosophies of Schott and Ryan and like playing to win and not to lose. Thats is really all that most players really want opposed to punting on the Saints 49 with five minutes left down by eleven. A new stadium, a young and confident team, and coaches who coach to the players strengths should change the tide of the AFC next year. The Jets are the team to beat just like the Bills were after Harmon dropped the touchdown. You just saw it coming. Let's hope our new coaches finish their coaching search and begin the evaluation process soon because there is alot of work to do.

It is no secret that the national sports media paints a pretty rough picture of the Buffalo Bills and it has even so much that it has spread to the local media. WGR seems to be overtly embarassed and Schopp has stated on more than one occasion that he is so frustrated that he is not a fan. Gregg Williams states that it is cold here and that it is a good thing he is not here which is interesting considering the very stadium he played in on Sunday was not so nice during a four day period right after Katrina as it was the scene of seven murders, roughly seventeen rapes, fifty-four deaths and had to be condemned because of general filfth not to mention outside the stadium sitting on your roof waiting for helicopters to pick you up before the cottonmouths get to you and general bedlum similar to a third world country. Yeah, give me some of that. I digress. The truth of the matter is that the NFL is a league where teams can turn things around very quickly and the Bills need much help, but it can be easily argued that if (big if) the bills don't have the injuries that they did this year, they could have made the playoffs. The fact that we are getting so many people back from injured reserve is almost like having an early free agency. My point is that we don't have to be as pessimistic as everyone is telling us that we should be. No one had heard of neither Harbaugh or Spagnola and they turned their teams around and made the playoffs their first year.

He obviously meets the criteria that a large network is looking for so there are either pairings beside Buck and Aikman are worse or you've made a foolish unsubstantiated claim without any rationale. Congratulate your high school English teacher for me.
