  1. What do you say we wait until he makes a couple pro bowls first then we can B word after our cheap front office decides not to pay him
  2. That is only half the picture. You need guaranteed contracts AND a salary cap for it to work. No luxury tax BS. Keep the cap system...make the contracts guaranteed. Make it fair for owners and players!!!!
  3. I bet Langston Walker wishes he could play out his contract You can't have it both ways. A player is a d!ck head if they want to get out of their contract to get money they deserve but owners are making good business decisions when they, franchise them, want to renegotiate them for less or out right rip up their contract and show them the door. Sounds like an incredibly large double standard to me. Everyone has class and hero envy and they think these guys are such greedy jerks because they play a game we would give anything to play and quibble over more money than some make in a life time. When will people realize this is a business first and a game second? I would actually LOVE IT if the NFL made it company policy that all owners, players, scouts, agents and front office people had to sign non disclosure agreements and couldn't discuss salaries, guaranteed money or contracts. Make all of the news about the damn game not the business. If they did that, what would the guys on ESPN have to talk about all day?
  4. Who said anything about "grossly insubordinate" insubordination is basically not doing what your boss asks of you. Turk Schonert = guilty. Jauron put up with some of it but apparently their were limits to the friction caused by how vocal Turk perhaps became about their philosophical differences Who said anything about organized? Whether organized or not individual offensive players including but not limited to Lee Evans and Trent Edwards went to Jauron to express their concerns regarding the offense's lack of production. I also don't see how their shock of his release is inconsistent with their displeasure with the offensive production. I am actually not surprised that they were surprised that Jauron actually did something about it.
  5. What came first, the chicken or the egg? Perhaps they spent less time memorizing the play book and getting confused by multiple complex predictable formations and spent more time learning to read those defenses. They have two handfuls of plays that they know cold and the rest of the time is spent interpreting defenses and how to exploit them with the appropriate play. I'm not sure if this is actually the case but there are two ways to be successful on offense. One is you can dictate to the defense and force them into a look or coverage you want, another is to take advantage of what they give you. In a way the no huddle can actually give you both! With tempo management you can dictate to the defense how quickly they can substitute, if at all, limiting their personnel packages and therefore defenses called. With your offense lined up quickly you can see what coverage the defense is in and check to the appropriate play to take advantage of what they are giving you. Win win. Well.....that's what I hope. No more excuses for Trent for this season!!!! Let's see if the K.I.S.S. principal works for him.
  6. Well for one this point assumes that Turk has always been that insubordinate where as it was quite possibly an issue that continued to escalate. Your also forgetting the fact that THE PLAYERS actually went to Jauron to discuss the direction of the offense and express some concerns. It's quite possible they were getting mixed signals and perhaps started hearing Turk becoming all the more vocal about not being able to get his way. Upon hearing this Jaruon took action to get rid of the undermining force in his organization. True it's probable that he should have gotten rid of him when he got rid of Fairchild but we have the benefit of hind site.
  7. How many guys did they have starting that never started an NFL game for them? How many guys were playing a position they didn't play the year before? How many years had they played together in live NFL conditions? When you answer those questions you'll know why that is a nearly useless comparison.
  8. Everyone can have any opinion but this one has absolutely no basis in fact. THERE IS NO WAY ANY OF THOSE WHO FEEL LIKE YOU DO CAN SAY PETERS WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN HAPPY TO STAY IF PROPERLY PAID!!! STOP IT!!!
  9. WOW. This statement is just.....WOW. I guess all you need is a few weeks in pads, and a bunch of rookies and projects to create a well oiled finely tuned O-line. I'm not trying to be a jerk here and I apologize for the tone but this just shows an incredible lack of insight into what makes a good veteran OL with continuity. To create a good or sometimes even capable OL takes years of experience in the NFL and years of experience together. Even if you have those things you can still fail. Look at our last OL. Unlike many, I don't think they were quite as bad as everyone thought. Agreed, they DID under perform their contract. They did however open more, not a lot, of holes in the running game that I have yet to see our current line open.
  10. Does anyone GUARANTEE that Eric Wood is going to step up and lead this young group?
  11. Hey I heard Kyle Orton beat out Rex Grossman in Chicago a few year ago. Does that mean Kyle Orton is a good starting QB that you want running your offense? It;s even worse with Walker-Bell. Just because Bell beat out Walker doesn't mean he will be good at his job. ALL IT MEANS IS HE WAS BETTER THAN WALKER!!!! PERIOD! I hope Bell blossoms into the next Jason Peters. I really do. I'll also be pissed when he wants to get paid what he's worth and we let him walk to.
  12. Have you ever heard the saying something is worth EXACTLY what you pay for it? Peters got paid what he was worth and Philly footed the bill. Peters was worth that much because other teams, unlike the Bills, were willing to pay it. If Trent makes it through 16 weeks without needing crutches I'm sure he will agree with you on all of the "help" he has gotten on OL!!!!
  13. How does that Kool Aid taste? You got it wrong when you assumed that either one of them was the right guy for the job. THIS IS LT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT! Teams pay a premium for quality players here for a reason.!!!!!
  14. Keep telling yourself that! Maybe one of us will believe it. He just wanted to be paid what a two time pro bowl LT at what 26? years of age was worth.
  15. OH...and don't take that to mean that I think Walker was/is a better LT. Just that if our plan was to go with the best option between Walker and Bell it was a bad plan.
  16. The PLAN, if you mean counting on a 2 year late round project who has played football for 5 years much less an NFL game that meant something to protect you QB's blind side, was a bad one!!!!! Hey, it COULD work. I hope it does but it involves an INCREDIBLE amount of risk. It throws the time tested concepts of the importance of continuity and experience on the offensive line out the window. With this you can't argue. We are rollin' the dice big time and I hope we don't crap out.
  17. QUOTE (thebandit27 @ Sep 8 2009, 04:59 PM) * what a bunch of panty-wastes on this board! this guy was horrendous. did anyone watch him play in any of the 5 preseason games? he was brutal in run blocking, and got abused by Dewayne White (who?), Detroit's RDE (2 penalties and 3 blown blocking assignments in 4 plays in the 2nd quarter) in the passing game. there's no way this is such a bad move. yes, the timing was poor, but it was the right move. No doubt what did they expect though taking a career road grating RT and make him a LT???? It's not the bull dozer's fault it's not a Hummer!!!!!!!
  18. What about Walker's contract? Maybe Walker should tell Russ Brandon to show up at OTA's next year and they can "talk" about renegotiation and or voiding the contract? LOL...I really hate to say it because the money gets in the way of the game but no wonder these players try to renegotiate their contracts when they out play them. Front offices have no problem telling them to wipe their butt with it and hit the road when they under perform it...Oh...unless you are Schobel or Kelsay that is.
  19. I get the point you're trying to make but lets not forget there is tape of him in college as well as the preseason. Also it doesn't take any regular season games to see that, to me, he has that Jason Taylor body type and speed.
  20. THANK YOU! Everyone is making comparisons that have some merit but Jason Taylor all the way. His size and build alone screams Taylor to me. I also agree on the other observations. It's WAY to early to start making so bold a statement but I too now am starting to think this guy does have a shot at being a better player than Orakpo THIS YEAR. With a handful of practices The guy has already exceeded my expectations and has a sack early in each preseason game with a fumble and some hurries in there. It was telling to me that the kid drew a double team his first play on the field against Pitt. Let's keep our fingers crossed. They need to create a new defensive position for this guy in the New England game, "Assassin". Every play whether it's a run or pass make the guy's only responsibility getting to Tom Brady. Let him line up anywhere and just get after it!!! LOL
  21. UDFA's are great bargains to get but eventually you've got to pay them. In my opinion drafts and UDFAs should be measured by how many stars and or pro bowlers you end up with. Role players and roster place holders can be found anywhere and in free agency. Difference makers are what help you win championships!
  22. From rotoworld regarding Nates contract. 3/2/2007: Signed an eight-year, $80 million contract. In the details section it does show it's one of those escalating contracts where they make a lot more money per year on the backend but on the surface it looks like a $10 mil a year deal. Perhaps a bit strong to say they WAY over paid for him. The point I guess is more about that I feel Whitner was pretty much as good in coverage and is arguably the best CB in the league against the run and tackling.
  23. I don't mean to be a jerk but Nate was WAY over paid by San Fran. This was actually one of the good decisions we made to not pay a guy and let him go. Winfield is a GOOD CB and flat out even better football player. The guy is ridiculous in run support and doesn't miss a tackle. Didn't he lead the Bills one year in tackles as a CB? We screwed the pooch on that guy BIG TIME! Maybe if we paid him, we wouldn't have to spend so many picks in the draft each year on CB's!!! In a few years I can see this guy making an EASY conversion to safety given his tackling and run support ability and extending his career another few years!!!
  24. In our defense they make EVERYONE'S front office look stupid especially the raiders. MAN I hate Al Davis! He gives it all away to the Pats. First round picks, Moss for a song. Didn't they even just trade some productive defensive end to the Pats too? sheesh
