  1. Actually thinking about the love for the little EGO trip people still seem to have, TO should do great here.
  2. Yeah, amazing how carreer backups, look good on stats like that. Once defences spend time preping for a QB, they do so much better. He was great off the bench, and for a game or 2. Other than that, he was just like any fill in the blank 2nd string QB. Fans love them all for some reason.
  3. How bad does a teams history have to be, that someone like Flutie would be someone people miss. Convenient how everyone forgets the guys ego made TO's look small, but he didnt have the talent to back it up. The guy got cut as much for the attitude he gave when he wasnt getting his way, and the way he could divide a locker room, as much as he was for not being able to beat out the "fill in the blank QB" that he was up against, anywhere outside of the Canadian Football League. He may have been a very succesfull QB in the league, if his ego doesnt get him banished to CFL till went to buffalo, but by then, his CFL success didnt exactly help his ego. IMO, next to the trade of 1st and 4th for Rob Johnson, signing him was the worst moves the bills made in the 80's.
  4. He also had no report with the LG, and that guard was let go at end of year for his play, and the whole interior of line collapsed consistantly to the inside rush. With a good working relationship with the person he plays with, I think his ability to slide out quickly will improve. Not saying he will be an all pro, but if he can get a yard or 2 farther on his sets, and the interior of line doesnt allow as much of a push up the middle, allot of those outside rushes will go around the QB instead of through him.
  5. I think will be ok overall with Walker as our LT. He may have a couple of rough games, but overall think he is capable of holding his own. For those couple of games that he may strugle, they can always put the TE outside of him for a chip block. I also think that they are fine at RT with Butler slidding out. He is more suited physically to play tackle than guard, and while not a freak athlete, not many RT's are. Chambers did ok at RT for a few games, and he is a much better athlete than Chambers, and stronger at point of attack, so that should help the running game. I think that overall the line play will be better, and that Butler is an improvement in the run game for the right side, Walker is a step down from a motivated Peters, but about the same as the one we had last year. The center position has been upgraded, and the guards will be better in the run game than last years, but about even in pass. So we should still have descent pass protection and be much better in the run blocking over last years group in my opinion.
  6. Unless thier offensive line comes through in a big way, not sure they will be able to take advantage of these weapons consistantly. If the line can open holes consistantly, and give TE enough time to go through his progressions consistantly, then yes, we have the weapons to be close to a top 10 offense. Most likely first half the season we have a couple of games with over 400 yards offense, but most of games around 300 yards per game like last year. I am expecting (praying even) that the line will start to gel by 2nd half of season, and they will start to puch the 500 yard mark in games, and become an exciting offense to watch.
  7. Ok, makes sence, but did not know that. According to the Orlando sentenal article though he was claimed about a week after the draft.
  8. JP Losman was so highly reguarded by ufl that he wasnt even drafted, while QB's like below where. BOLLINGER, BROOKS BOYD, SHANE O’HAGAN, LIAM JOHNSON, BRIAN BACHER, CJ Its not like allot of vets werent drafted either, since former Bengals RB Chris Perry (selected by Orlando), former Redskins “big ticket” free agent Safety Adam Archuleta (Las Vegas), former Patriots Super Bowl winning TE Jermaine Wiggins (Las Vegas), former Colts Safety Mike Doss (Orlando), former Jaguars RB LaBrandon Toefield (New York), and former Steelers QB Shane Boyd (San Francisco). Only one team (Las Vegas) didnt select a QB in thier draft, and thats the team that was awarded his rights, so he lucked out there. below is link used for most of this information. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/206962-...teresting-names
  9. Never been dry? Been dragged to Duff's about 6 times, and was always dry and crispy no matter how I ordered it, or how many times I sent it back. It did have good amount of sauce on it it looked like, cause skin was died reddish, but was baked off looked like, but could taste the sauce for sure.
  10. Not a big fan of duff's myself. If you like your wings really crispy they are very good. I actually cut my upper plate of mouth on a wing from there, and prefer a wing that has allot of sauce rather than super crispy myself. John and Mary's is more my style of wings, but can see why people love duff's.
  11. Why Fergy was a good quarterback, the thing i will always remember about him is you could tell when he lost confidence. He would hang his head when walking off field and sit and mope after a bad play or when something went wrong, and no matter what the score was, you knew they were going to loose because he wasnt the same qb anymore. Cowboys game when he lost his shoe and tried to make a throw from his knees that was picked off, comes to mind as one of the games. Bills where up by 2 touchdowns I think, and were driving when that happened, and game was pretty much over at that point as far as bills offense was concerned. He didnt do it every game, but 2-3 games every year it seemed he would loose his confidence and ability to move the team with it. But when he was on, he was very good.
  12. For the higher picks, they want the teams around them in draft to sign first, and let them set the market. Then they use those values to set how much to pay. The dont have enough influence on the agents to set the market themselves, and are afraid they will overpay or look bad if they try to themselves. Not sure why they wait on the lower picks however. They do have to release people to make room on roster, so understand why they would wait till after OTA's by a few weeks. That gives time to get a good handle on who they think has chance to make team first, but they usually wait way longer than that. The whole cash to cap thing doesnt explain waiting longer, as they end up paying basically same salary as would have if signed earlier. Nothing to do with the question, but it take out the rich owners, about half the teams pay less then cap for thier salaries and follow same basic principals as the bills, they just arent as open about it. Bills dont have the luxury of playing in a place that people want to live, or having a team that players are wanting to play for over others, so think they blame that for the free agents choosing more desirable teams over the Bills. If you could play for a top end coach, or live in a place with nice weather and lower taxes for same money, what would you choose?
  13. Dont forget, this is the buffalo job. Were not talking normal NFL salaries here.
  14. First move i make is to turn down the job for someone more qualified.
  15. Have to say he had allot of talent, but was a freelancer, and was out of position often. So he made some big plays, but gave up allot as well. Wouldnt call him a great player myself, but had all the talent in the world to become one, if not for the injury. Was finally starting to get it and play what was called more often when the injury hit.
  16. So what happend to the whole Ted Marchibroda designing it on a napkin story then?
  17. You are correct, the running game was a huge part of it. They had basically 4 runs they ran over and out of k-gun. However they only ran when there where 7 in the box and ran outside the takle or draws over half the time. The line was able to play smash mouth when needed however and was unique in that regaurd for that type of offense. But there where multiple interviews after games they didnt use the k-gun as much because of having the lead or other reasons, where the linemen where extactic about being able to run block and take it to the oppenent for a change. In most cases the blocking is more of a zone blocking scheme when doing no huddle, even in run game, and linemen cant be as agressive, since doing more draws and screens than typical. The k-gun was based out of 3 recieve set most of time, and the threat of pass, and the tremdous ability of the line to pickup blitzes and give kelly time made it difficult for defenses to stack the line to stop the run, so the run was very affective for them. Not to mention having a hall of fame caliber back. But the run didnt setup the pass, it complimented it. I agree on point of why we lost to giants however. That and very poor clock management at end of game didnt help either.
  18. The other point of that, is the defense is wired now as well. So if you go no huddle but slow it down, the defense gets a chance to think about thier approach and adjust allot better now than were able to in the past.
  19. http://giantsfans.net/index.php?option=com...7&Itemid=43 Better article outlining both some strengths and weaknesses of using no-huddle attack. Offensive line aggressiveness is one of items that the author feels suffers in no-huddle attack. Based on draft and people they brought in, it appears that they are trying to get a more aggressive offensive line. Seems to me that last few years line, which was good at pass blocking, but not good at running game was better fit for no-huddle than what they are building for this year. Seems that the nasty in your face run blockers would want fit better with a more traditional type of offense.
  20. http://www.nytimes.com/1993/10/04/sports/p...st-defense.html Decent article on no-rest defense of the K-Gun era.
  21. Yes they could sprinkle in some sugar huddles, and walk-by huddles and stand at line to let clock wind down to prevent substitutions, but still tend to run plays faster in that type of offense. Dont see any evidense of teams running nohuddle winning the time of posession. The total number of plays that both teams run typically is higher than average, and the time the defense of teams that run no huddle is on field typically averages around 34-35 minutes. While they can run it down to 1 seconds, unless they are trying to run out the clock, they dont stand over center that long very often. They may slow it down to 10-15 second left, if they do allot of audibles but still there is usually over 10 seconds left when ball is snapped more often than not. The numbers are easily skewed since most of teams using no huddle are down by 2 scores or more when running it, and makes my point look better than probably is, but even looking at college teams that run it, the time the defense is on field, and number of plays they are on field for is ussually pretty high. Basically what am trying to say, while your point is valid, that it is possible to run no huddle slowly, It usually is not run that way, and the time of possession battle is usually lost by teams that run it.
  22. This is very true. The line needs to be able to commicate well and all be on same page. The center has to be able to make the calls and adjustments quickly, and the whole line needs to see the same things in order for those adjustments to be successfull. Center is as important as quarterback for this type of attack to be successful consistantly.
  23. I disagree, They had a great defense, just not great numbers. Other than safety position they had no real weaknesses. They were on the field allot more than normal due to the low time of possesion of thier offense, which affected the numbers. If they had a conventional offense, the defense would have looked allot better on paper, and they would have recieved allot more respect, but they probably wouldnt have gone to as many superbowls, if any, so worth the trade off for sure. Bruce did overplay pass allot, but they usually where playing from the lead, so he had his ears back allot. And while Wright wasnt the strenght of the defense, he held his own on most downs, and didnt really have any glaring weaknesses.
  24. They are talking about doing no huddle not K-gun. Main difference being that the quarterback will not be calling the plays. No huddle can work if have a monster defense, since the offense isnt on the field very long. Or is needed if have a really bad defense, since always playing catchup all the time. Since they have neither, other than a nice change of pace, I hope they wont play it more than a few series a game. If they do, have a felling our defense will be giving up allot of points in 4th quarters of games.
  25. Patriots probably are going to land this guy. Is a better fit for him, as he would play same position there, and would allow him to play to his strenghts. Here he would basically be competing with Maybin for playing time, and all though I think he wins that competition, that sets Maybin back. I dont think he can play linebacker in 4-3 is main reason I say that. So he would mainly a situation pass rusher, just like Maybin most likely will be. For the money it would likely take to beat out the patriots for his services, I am not sure it its a smart move.
