  1. Dude... your understanding of the Bills Orgainization is a mess. All GMs rely on their Player Personnel nad College Scouting depts. to bring talent to their organization. The Dir. of Player Personnel's (Whaley, before his recent promotion) job, among other things, to keep a dosier on every damn player aroung the league, just like the Dir. of College Scouting gets all the data and scouting reports on college players for prospective draft and or free agency. So, the GM goes to Whaley when he needs to bring in a player with pro experience to fill a position of need. Whaley having this up to the minute file/info/scouting reports, etc. on all pro players regardless if they are on or off a roster or practice squad brings the GM the list of the specific type player he thinks best fits the GMs request and provides his input/recommendation. The GM does the deal based on that information and his own gut feeling. Buddy don't scout much, if at all ,anymore... he couldn't possibly do that as GM.

Okay, I accept the process, but you don't address the main point of my question. You rip on Whaley for finding Jackson, and mock those wanting him to be GM (I'm in that camp) because the best he could do was TJ. Jackson would seem to be a well suited back up, especially on a team where the starter is best suited as a back up.

  2. Wow, this paragraph is just a mess. First off, you know how this went down? Second, let's just say this did happen, how is getting a QB that has started full seasons for 2 teams, to be a backup for a 7th round pick a fail on Whaley's part?

The fail is bringing the guy in, then not getting him enough work to prepare him, while the QB we do have proves week in and week out that he's not good enough to be a starting QB in the NFL.

Dude... Tarvaris is a waste of time. He's been on three teams now in his career. He's started on two of those teams and in both cases the coaching staff opted for rookies, and in Seattle's case, the 2nd top QB in FA as well. The third team brought him in for one reason, to compete with Tyler Frickin Thigpen for a backup job. Jackson, apparently, hasn't done s#it to even beat out Thigpen for the # 2, let alone get a shot at #1. Tarvaris has been in the damn league for 7 seasons and has probably logged over 4000 snaps. I'm certain... no, make that GUARANTEE, that the Bills and 31 other teams in the NFL have enough video footage and scouting reports on Jackson to make a good decision on whether he has it or doesnt have it. Two games left and start a QB with marginal talent and that's gonna be a FA after the season? WTF? Where do people come up with this s#it?

On a side note regarding Jackson. Back in early Sept. Buddy says to the dude in charge of pro player personnel (then Doug Whaley), fetch me a backup QB, I'll give up a sixth and mayber higher. Whaley delivers Jackson? WTF? That's what you got Whaley? And there are actually fans clamouring for this guy to be GM? I guess Whaley, being the good soldier he is, closely adhered to the OBD motto on this one.... "Dare to be Adequate".

Oh, Jeesuz... Can we see those two 80 yard bombs to Lee Evans that JP Losman threw against the Texans a few years ago???? Big Damn Deal.

  3. And that's the problem...why isn't it? A bunch of knucklehead fans armed with an iPad and All-22 film can see what's going on; why can't the numbskulls who are actually paid to do this stuff? Let's get some young, aggressive coaches in here who are ready to kick some ass.

Perfectly put eball. Why the hell can't the organization make the moves that appear so clear to everyone else? Why doesn't Spiller touch the ball 20 times every game. Why don't the Bills ever make adjustments in game that make sense?

  4. our defense sucked so bad this year that only a top 5 qb would have made a difference anyway.

where or when are we ever going to get a top 5 qb again?

Hard to say, but it has to start with actually selecting a QB in the draft, let's hope they start there.

  5. Elways is also not the GM, Brian Xanders is. Elways is not the man pulling the personel trigger, he is the guy under Bowlen that is demanding success, accountability and greatness from the staff who is.

I guess you could argue he got Manning, but that is different than drafting. Elway is an extension of Bowlen, not a Talent Evaluator.

There needs to be evidence that Kelly could be a competent Football Executive... Could he work with Nix to bring in a great HC, convice that coach that the losing has stopped and that the Bills are back on the road to greatness?? Could he demand excellence and pull the plug on losers who accept less?

Elway has... Don't know about Kelly

This is mostly wrong. Elway canned Xanders last May and makes the personnel decisions for the team now. He is not just a motivator. Elway brought in Manning and had final say on other free agents and the draft. Make no mistake, he runs the show in Denver.

  6. Ive been trying to get people on board with a zone read option offense led by Tebow since he was kicked out of denver.

Seems to be working well with RG3 and Wilson, and it got a bad Denver team into the playoffs last year.

Before you knock Tebow for having an innacurate arm, a long wind up, and questionable armstrength, I'll remind you that Fitz is just as schitty if not worse than Tebow. (but he can't run).

And no, I'm not saying Tebow is our best option going into next year, Im just saying he is an option (a better one than Fitz) I dont see any guys in the draft this year that could run the zone read.

I won't crap on an idea like this until Tebow starts to lose games on a consistent basis (he hasn't yet). He's started more playoff games than any Bills QB since Kelly.

  7. Not saying I support this idea, but to say Kelly showed no accumen on the field is silly. He called the plays for on of the most prolific offenses ever. I know he had weapons, but he made it hum.

Elway went to Stanford, Kelly went to the U...thats probably all you need to know.

  8. It would be great to see ESPN get back to hiring folks who know sports and are good at their craft. I can't stand to watch these Springer-esque shows. Somebody must be watching though, because they keep trotting them out there. Let's hope this embarrassment forces some change.

Remember when they had ombudsman who called them out on this stuff. Do they even have one any more?

  9. agree on Orton and Moore.....they are not to be confused with "elite" guys but are definetly serviceable especially Orton

Doesn't this say it all? Fitz is servicable too. I watched Orton quite a bit when he was in Denver, very similar to Fitz (right down to the stupid beard). Some very good games and some terrible ones. They both make head scratching throws, especially in the red zone. Orton has had chances and couldn't stick.

  10. This doesn't look like the same serious rehab that he's had before. He should have a normal off season and be ready to go next year (if not before this season is over). Guys like Matthew Stafford and Demaryous Thomas looked like injury prone guys that couldn't stay healthy and they are turning that around. Don't give up on Wood yet, he's so good when healthy.

  11. No reason to trade Jackson. Yesterday was the most inspired bit of adjustment from Chan all season. Freddy was running downhill on the slick field and it was working, so Chan actually went with him. Then CJ came in well rested and warm and hit the home run.

  12. The problem with picking Dareus over Green is the fact that "franchise" WRs like Green don't come along very often, create matchup disasters for the other team, and are the most valuable players in the NFL besides franchise QBs. Much as Franchise QBs make a team immeasurably better, a true stud WR makes an entire offense better in multiple ways, even if he doesn't have a great QB delivering him the ball. GMs who understand the modern NFL get this and draft accordingly. (See Atlanta, trading up for Julio Jones). GMs who don't, end up picking "the highest ranked player on our board", and pay the price. (see Cleveland selecting Trent Richardson). Bottom line: even a great D-lineman, which Dareus definitely is not at this point in his career, is less valuable to a team than a truly great WR, which Green has already proven himself to be.

Trent Richardson has performed quite well on a crappy team, should finish with close to 1500 yards from scrimmage and 10 tds.

The problem with calling Green a franchise WR, which he obviously is, but for every Green, Megatron, Andre Johnson, there is a Braylon Edwards, Charles Rogers, and Roy Williams.

  13. I liked Green pre draft but was totally on board with Dareus. The Bills had ignored the interior of the line for far too long and another skill player would have made many on this board lose their mind. There are plenty of WR's that have looked like can't miss prospects that have missed badly (ask the Lions). I still think Dareus will justify his draft position in the long run. He's been much better the past two games. It appears he may be putting the tragedy of his brothers death behind him and getting back to form.

Taking Williams in the 2nd round however is a totally different story. Having Dalton or Kap right now would put the franchise in a much better place. My only hope for Williams at this point is that they convert him to safety during the offseason and he is more successful there.

  14. Nice to see Mario coming on strong. I thought the hand injury was a cop out, but it seems like he has been much better since having surgery.

As for Dareus being bad yesterday? I thought he looked great. He was in on a ton of plays either right at the line of scrimmage or behind it. The Colts got very few rushing yards up the middle.
