  1. I went to my first game in 78 when I was 6. I can still remember the moment I walked out the tunnel and could see the field for the 1st time, I was in total awe. My folks had season tickets in the late 70's early 80's and I went to quite a few games. Never had a problem and surrounding fans were always extra nice to me.

  2. CC must be the dumbest guy to ever play the game. He isn't in the HOF already because of his big mouth and pissing off many that vote. Now he admits to this?

Do you ever listen to the guy? He's not dumb, very interesting and honest on the radio. He was asked a question and gave an honest answer, I imagine his HOF chances were not part of his though process here, and why should they be. And like others have said, it was Romo, so that can only help.

I think Carter and Reed should both be in the Hall.

  3. Couldn't happen to a more deserving idiot.

Next up. All his 'friends' desert him.

We seem to take such pleasure in the pain of these athletes that squander their money and I don't really understand why. Sure it's frustrating to see someone blow all that money and we all think that if we just had $1m we would be set for life. But I would bet a large percentage of the people on this board struggle with finances everyday. Even people who make a nice living. We say things like, as soon as I get that next promotion or raise, I'll be all set...then we buy a new car (sure, not a Maybach) and get right back to the struggle. The athletes are the same, just living on a much bigger scale, and then they stop earning in their late 20's or if they are lucky, their 30's.

Saying all that, it would seem like $80m would be enough not to screw it up too much, but even if TO invested, he went through 9/11 and this recent recesstion during his earning days and could have lost millions during each of these.

  4. Schoop can be short-tempered at times, maybe impatient is the right word, but this whole thing about him not liking football in Buffalo is way overblown. He is admittedly a bigger hockey fan than a football fan. So what? That doesn't disqualify him as a Sports-talk radio guy. In fact, if anything, it might make him a bit more objective when it comes to the Bills, which can be a good thing.

I don't listen to them that much, and admittedly, some of the stuff they do is kind of lame. But I think Schoop is pretty smart and I actually like it when he gets edgy with people when they rant and say very little that is coherent or intelligent. Filling 4 hours and sometimes more in a town without the NBA and MLB can be tough. That's what led Mike to say that the bad news about extending Freddy is it was a no-brainer high-five moment and that they came on early with nothing to get the phones ringing.

I totally agree with this. He has stated many times that it isn't football or the Bills he doesn't like, it's that the Bills have been so irrelevant for years that there is nothing interesting to talk about with them. I think this past offseason has changed all that. He is more of a hockey and baseball fan for sure (and maybe tennis too), but I believe he likes football and the Bills. He just wants to do interesting radio about an interesting team.

  5. There have been times over the years, particularly the last 5-10, where I have felt a little guilty for how much I love football...and for getting mad, because the game seems so soft to me, compared to the "good old days"...then you hear guys like Joe Delamielleure talk, or see feature stories about all the hell the guys subjected themselves, for money that is long gone, and for my satisfaction...I am more and more conflicted by this...but I still love the game, it is in my blood.

It may be a weak correlation, as one may not have anything to do with the other, but I think Goodell is right to be taking what seem to such extreme measures against the Saints. I am not sure that his motivation is as much to avoid future lawsuits as it is for real, honest to good concern for the well-being of the young guys who are playing...

Also, responding to someone else in the thread, it seems like, more and more, they are finding out that guys exposed to hits to the head, end up being more prone to depression, and mental health issues...it kind of makes sense. Part of your brain is being damaged, it is a physical and mental injury.

I go through this too. It gets a little harder to jump off the couch after a big hit when these stories become more prevalent. I also used to be a big pro wrestling fan as a kid and followed it some as an adult, but after all the deaths it just got too hard to support it. I don't want football to be that way.

  6. Amazing how we cry and worry and shake our heads in dismay when some pampered millionaire ex jock kills himself. Oh those poor babies. Wonder if the suicide rates for U.S. combat veterans would concern people as much.

It saddens me when anyone feels like the only way out is taking their own life, especially someone that got to that point through service to their country. I think the reason we all rally to this type of situation is that we all spent 15 or so years watching this guy play and admiring, cheering or booing him. We feel like we kind of know him.

  7. So even if it's less than 1% of the players, does that make it okay? No worries, it's only .5% of our employees that have mush for brains and are dying young, carry on. I wrote my post then went to lunch to find out Seau killed himself. Obviously we don't know if there was any correlation to concussions, but it makes you wonder.

  8. I think every hit within the whistles should be legal, minus groin hits. Bring back the arm bar.

    De-pussify football.

I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or a joke, but yikes. How much more research on concussions or retired players passing away in their 40's and 50's with the brains of a 90 year old do you need to see. I know they choose to play a dangerous sport for a living, but the game can be great without crippling everyone that plays it.

  9. As far as retired numbers goes it is my understanding that the only number retired is 12. And, it's not Jim Kelly's number. It was retired to honor the 12th man. (I could be wrong about this, not sure,)

The 12th Man is on the wall of fame, but the jersey was retired for Kelly. They had a big ceremony at one of the games. I would think Bruce and Thurman should get the same treatment. Thanks for posting the story about numbers Chandamonium, it was a good read.

And I agree that Kelsey should get to keep the number if he wants it...he's earned that. He's been a solid player for a while and is still contributing. If it was a 2nd year special teams player, then sure give it to Mario.

  10. I mean this with the utmost respect to Aaron Williams who did show flashes of talent last year, but I truly believe Ron Brooks and Stephon Gilmore will be our starting CBs for years to come. There is something about Brooks...his speed, his tenacity, his fire, his humility...that just screams to me "starting caliber NFL CB". He reminds me very much of Terrence McGee in his (uninjured) prime.

Not knocking on Williams again, heck I hope he steps up and we have the enviable problem of three starting CBs on this squad.

Thats really interesting that you say that Malta...I had a very similar, there's something about him, feeling about Brooks. I hope, Williams, Brooks and Gilmore turn into one of the best CB groups in the league to go along with the awesome front 4 they've put together.

  11. I don't hate this way of thinking at all. Especially a guy like Curry or David. I like Andre Branch too.

If Mark Anderson is the guy from his middle seasons in the league and Merriman can't stay healthy, it would be great to have another pass rusher. Curry and Williams on the ends for the next 6 years would be tough.

Yeah Pilsner, that pic makes it awful tough to focus on reading your posts

  12. The Cosell mock is a fun draft...definately not predictions, but it is a cool way to rate the players. This will be especially interesting in a couple years when people look back at the draft. If Jenkins keeps out of trouble should he have gone top 5? Will RGIII be better than Luck and Floyd better than Blackmon. Nice to see something different.
