To start this off.... Don't be surprised one bit that Sheppard hasn't signed. You think his agent isn't aware of the Bills' crisis at ILB and that his clietn's value is jjjust a little bit higher? He is in a position of strength and will bargain for an extra year or more guaranteed $$$. Sounds crazy for a 3rd rounder, but this is how agent's think. Now onto my points. There are a lot of ILB out there, and a lot of good ones. As nix said, there are more waiver wire cut's coming. We all know Poz isn't worth his contract. Leadership and tackling is great, but when you can't cover a RB or a TE as a LB, that severely limits your skill set and ability to play within certain defensive schemes. He is young, he is big, he is nasty, and he comes from a winning team. This is the kind of guy I want - modestly priced, huge upside. Cooper is a solid vet addition as are the others, but I really hope that Nix takes a look at McClain. One negative - he is hte guy who laid that illeale hit on Heath Miller last year.

They want their best players on the fieldan d with Merriman/Kelsay set at OLB, they think Moats can probably unseat Torbor inside. If he can't, he goes back to riding hte pine until Merriman gets hurt again on the outside. In addition, I dont get what Batten isn't working at ILB. I'd rather see him there and Coleman/Moats at OLB.

I'm not the biggest Esmonde fan. He tends to write consistently opinionated stuff (which is what he is paid to do), but rarely takes the approach of looking at things from both side. I agree with him a lot, esp on the waterfront development, but the minute you don't agree with his social issue stances he considers you a bigot. Sully is great for the masses, but he seems like a better fit covering Boston than Buffalo sports. I think he'd do wonders covering the red sox. TG can relate with a lot of us. Has lived as a young adult in the area, understand the people, their passion, their inferiority complex (which I can't stand buffalonians have!), etc. He'll be good for the region as a writer. Plus, he might be a fun guy to bump into out at Coles, if he ever makes it to the city.

my friends at ESPN told me in May that he was leaving for a senior editor/writer position with the Buffalo News, but it wasn't clarified if it was within sports or not. Perhaps someday he take's Sullys position? just saying!

agreed on the Colts aspect. Trueblood has been an excellent run blocker, Harris replaced Pears and they haven't run zone blocking schemes since Shanahan left, completely different offense with Josh McDaniels. I keep forgetting - we have two OT/OG hybrids who played RT (Wrotto, Howard) and Pears who was replaced by Harris. So I'm failing to see the lack of upgrade here.

according to scouts inc all are significant upgrades over what we have and all are young with a lot of upside (though harris has had some injury issues). none are like Clabo in terms of size and mean streak though. i like trueblood alot, but oh well.

the jays is more accurate than baltimore... we were both great in the early 90s, and its been all downhill since then...

while it's clear that ATL is going to re-sign him, this is why it pays to have guys like Buddy and Chan. they are southern boys. They can speak this kids language, literally. Buddy is from Chattanooga, just down the road from Knoxville where Clabo is from. Chan coached in Georgia. Don't think that doesn't matter. If the Pittsburgh Pirates, a place where absolutely NO free agent goes, can compete for the division and have a winning record, there is no reason the Bills can't.... I'm just saying. You're right... With Poz gone, who do we have left that can cover a TE or a RB in the flat? oh thats right. Every tight end that he covered smoked him not to mention the multiple times he's been dragged by RBs 4-5 yards down field. I like Poz, he's a golid #2 ILB. But he is not a game changer. For 6mil/year or whatever he gets, keep drafting players for a 3-4. Any of the cut ILBs from SD will be sufficient for a year or two until Sheppard, Batten, etc develop. We didn't get worse, we're still unable to cover tight ends and running backs. From what I gather, we are in the same position as when we started.

I dont know what he'll do on the field, but I really like this kid as a person. well spoken, humble, happy, sincere - shoot, I'd love to see him and Poz do some trap shooting together. i'd pay to shoot along side them. That leaves the top two inside linebackers on San Diego's depth chart as 2010 third-rounder Donald Butler, who missed all of last year with a torn Achilles tendon, and this year's second-round pick Jonas Mouton. Starting defensive end Jacques Cesaire, who the Chargers are counting on first-rounder Corey Liuget to replace, and safety Paul Oliver, who started eight games, are also free to find new homes. To lay it out simply: Thirteen Chargers defenders started more than five games last season, but only seven of them are under contract for next season. But wait, there's more! How about the fact that wide receivers Malcolm Floyd and Legedu Naanee are also free agents? Should Vincent Jackson not be granted free agency in a settlement, then hold out on signing his franchise tag again, the Chargers will be in a desperate situation at wideout. I'm curious with Merriman touting earlier he was recruting guys to come here and the obvious Buddy factor, if we might pick up one of their ILB and let Poz go while focusing on keeping Drayton. I don't think we need more saftey help necessary, but perhaps Weddle would be a nice addition assuming whitner is let go? just some thoughts.

BINGO! problem isn't ralph. Hockey playesr are simple guys, out of the lime light. NFL players are show boats. they love the clubs and night life. big difference. hocky players stay in buffalo and raise a family. not a ton of NFLers do

The man is a heck of a businessman and an owner who actually understands finances and the bottom line. 3.) all this said - he doesn't have near the same outside revenue as a Kraft, Allen, Jones, Black, etc. He is a loyal owner, both to his employees and his team. You won't find an employee bad mouth him. The issues with Butler/Polian and RW, weren't ralph at all, but rather Littman. His biggest blunder, perhaps, is letting Littman have too much reign, however, he may be responsible for being the reason the Bills are still in town and financially viable at the same time.
