Yeah the ones that involve an arrest, which is public record, usually make headlines.

Got it. Say no more. You’re fully against anyone with a brush with the law. Even if it’s a young 20 year old kid and would prefer someone with lesser talent and ability because they’re a better person. Got it McDermott.

idk about you but I want players that can win. Players with talent. I’m not choosing a guy over someone else simply because of a few small concerns. He’s young. He’ll learn. Probably already did after dropping significantly in draft boards and costing him millions.

I don't think Beane floated out an official police affidavit.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the fine people of TSW know better than to trade up for a 1-tech in any circumstance, let alone a player who just committed an all-time stupid mistake which justified preexisting character concerns.

My point is right around draft time all sorts of things come out. It’s comical that you don’t think a lot of these kids make absolutely stupid mistakes. Like every single one of them. Yet only certain ones make headlines.

anyone remember that Josh is racist?

end of the day, I want good football players. I don’t care about mild character concerns over drunk driving or something like that.

and yes, we absolutely need a 1T. Can’t spend resources on a other guy that can’t stop the run.

Sweat is almost certainly going to be off our draft board. He has a reputation for partying and was driving way above the legal limit two weeks before the draft. No way we take a chance on a 1-tech with that kind of character concern in the 2nd round, and certainly not with a trade up. It's arguable if any 1-tech is worth a 2nd round pick.

Now if he drops to us in say the 5th I would want the Bills to take a chance there because what do we have to lose?

We’re drafting based on what the populous of TBD would do, not what choir boy McDermott wants.

and I haven’t looked at the article about him at this point because, well, it’s draft season and all the sudden lots of stories like these come out all over the place. For all we know, Beane floated that out there to hope he drops to 60.

  4. I would say if anyone wants Sweat to start a poll soon. We will for sure have to trade up to 51 at the latest. The Rams pick at 52 and there’s no way after losing Donald they aren’t going to address DT at some point. Who’s got 50 and 51? Are you entertaining offers at this point?

scratch that. Saw the Rams took Murphy already. Still. A poll is needed imo.

I think the way this works out best case at the draft - this is what I’d do:

    Pick 28 - Mitchell

Trade up from 60 with the Falcons to 46 and double dip.  Good chance at least 1 or 2 of those RD 2 guys I listed are there.

Don’t hate this idea. But I also don’t think the Bills do it

  6. Voted Franklin and it’s not even close. But I will add what some others have said, we should attempt to trade up to about 50 if Sweat is still there. Since this poll is ending and the draft will continue, maybe while people are still making their picks, put a new poll out there asking this very thing. I don’t know what the trade chart value is to move from 58 to 50. But whatever that value is, should be polled if we should do it.

Wasn't attendance for that game poor because of the weather?  It ended up being okay for the game, but people didn't buy tickets prior because it was in the middle of a blizzard.  I could be mis-remembering though

I don’t believe it was in a blizzard. It was extremely cold from what I remember. But was also in my teens so I don’t remember exactly.

but I think the lister had worn off after we lost in the previous 2 SBs and we just lost to the Oilers a week before.

I had a couple of extra tix at least twice during the '90s playoffs games and couldn't get $5 for them in the lot or at the gates.  Walked in with 'em.

Not sure how that's apropos to your debate, but fwiw.

Yeah and “the Comeback game” didn’t sell out despite 200k people saying they were there and didn’t leave.

point is, it’s all old hat after you start and keep winning. Especially when it’s the same story every year.

But, if you start the poll you won't know what trades would be available to include in the poll.  So if you have people get you the offers ahead of time, you can include them at the start of the poll :)

I think this makes the most sense. Have to wait until we’re up to see what trades are available.

Where was the parts about McDermott "working with what he's got"?

I think McDermott's vision of the ideal defense actually is, 'selfless guys all working their utmost to lift the team to the skies' or some such vision, vs. a "Stars and JAGS" model, and he had to be pulled towards the idea of needing a few "freakazoid" stars kicking and screaming, by experience.

As far as Elam, Lance Zierline on NFL.com (I find myself nodding in agreement often, when I go back and read his takes) said this about Elam:

"He plays with good awareness in zone and has the twitch and length to make plays on the throw when squatting in space.".  Someone here who watches a lot of Florida games said that they played zone more than people thought (I think he said 30 or 40%) with Elam, and he wasn't the man2man specialist some portrayed him as.  Take that for whatever it's worth to you.

My personal take is that we thought we could coach him out of his known flaws (weak in run support, grabby with receivers, technique flaws) but so far, we haven't managed that.

“Many people like to fault McDermott or Frazier (usually McDermott to my eye) for the defense falling apart in theplayoffs.

I see it differently.  I see it as McDermott and Beane built a defense where "the whole is much greater than the sum of the parts".

This is what I’m referring to. They fall apart in the playoffs because they were never really that great anyway. In the playoffs it’s more about good coaching than regular season imo. It’s when the best of the best coaches (generally) have the upper hand. McDermott has been outcoached in the playoffs against superior coaches imo.

But my point as still that I believe McDermott has his hands in the draft picks and FAs more than people think. He has a personal preference for players imo. Good guys that are good team mates. Lunch Pail took kind of guys. End of the day he needs to get over it and get some guys that are just monsters that can play. Not everyone is a choir boy. Need to have some nasties on the team.

i don’t know what happened with Elam. Why they don’t like him. But I’ll say this, he’s got 3 ints (I think) in important situations when we needed it. Pretty sure 2 or 3 in the playoffs or games leading to the playoffs. Yet they feel he doesn’t deserve to be on the field. Not sure what their issue is with him but it doesn’t make sense to me.

I think you're both "on to" something here, and it's actually been my contention.

Many people like to fault McDermott or Frazier (usually McDermott to my eye) for the defense falling apart in the playoffs.

I see it differently.  I see it as McDermott and Beane built a defense where "the whole is much greater than the sum of the parts".  But, it had no true game-wreckers on defense.  So if enough of the component parts were missing due to injury, or if one component makes a mistake - poor or mediocre teams will still be slowed enough to win.  But the best offenses will drill into those weaknesses or individual miscues on any one play, and absolutely EXPLOIT them, and we have lacked the  "freakazoid" defensive game changers to overcome that issue.

I don't entirely fault Beane for this.  He tried to acquire game wreckers.  Tre White was the first.  Then Ed Oliver, who took a while to "get after it".  He drafted Rousseau, who, to be fair, has a higher wAV than any other DL in that draft and within 5 sacks of Jaelen Phillips.  He tried to double down with Basham, after using a 2nd round pick on his body-remodeling project in Epenesa the year before.  When those 3 weren't "cutting the mustard" in 2021, he went out and made a big FA splash by signing Von Miller.

But Miller, and our 2017 1st round "freakazoid" Tre White, got injured and weren't the same for the next season.  Then, just when Tre White looked like he might be coming back, injured again.  Some Days You Da Windshield, Some Days You Da Bug.

There's some bad injury luck there.  There are also some legit questions "did we grab the right guy?" (Ed Oliver over Jeffery Simmons, say? Epenesa over Greenard or Woonum? Kaiir Elam over Roger McCreary or Cam Taylor-Britt?)

It's the same thing with offense.  We have Allen, we had Diggs, and then we had a bunch of "good" players who could win against most teams, but be taken out by the best defenses especially when the refs put away the laundry and say "let 'em play" in the playoffs.

But no GM is perfect or gets it all right, and some of the teams that are championship-caliber have had some good luck - having "Mr Irrelevant" turn out to be a capable NFL QB, for example; or having a 7th round RB turn out to be a fightin' dog of an RB.

There seems to be an element of luck in the whole thing as well.

This is true.  But so far, Groot seems to have an element of "looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane" in his makeup, and Spencer Brown doesn't seem to have quick enough feet.

I pretty much agree with all of it expect the parts about McDermott working with what he’s got.

imo McDermott has much more say on the roster and draft picks than people want to give him credit for. We’ve all known that McDermott answers directly to Pegula. Imo he gets what he wants in the draft and FA. There isn’t a move that Beane makes that doesn’t get McDermotts approval first.

other than Elam, not sure what happened there at all. Because he is not in McDermotts mold at all. Was never a zone guy. Unless McDermott thought about using him another way or what I have no idea. For all we know he fell in love with the fact that Elam brought a notepad with him to the interview and McDermott loves that kind of thing.

In your mind, a 1990's Bills Playoff game = Regular season game in December after the team had lost 3 of our last 5 games?

    I don't see the correlation.

It was a regular season December game. Not a playoff game.

I never said you can't afford PSL's - I said PSL's will sell at a lower percentage rate as the team moves on to areas where fans with less income typically sit. In a completely separate conversation I spoke about how night games sold well. I'm not sure why you equate that to the PSL talk.

Your inability to follow the conversation is not my fault. To be honest, I think what is actually happening is that you are taking my analysis of the PSL situation to heart, as a personal affront to you. I assure you that it wasn't meant that way. I'm not judging your decision to purchase. Not at all.

I didn't intend to hurt your feelings. I simply give my thoughts and that's it. You have every right to purchase a PSL and enjoy it. I hope you do. You can ignore me if you'd like - I wont take offense.

Yeah I never took anything personal at all from you about your ongoing opinion of whatever you tho know going to happen or has happened.

I am simply stating that you are all over the place which I imagine everyone else in this thread can attest to that. Although I think it’s funny that you said “In a completely separate conversation I spoke about how night games sold well” which is what I was replying to in the first place. But I brought it up because you do know that you replying in a thread titled “PSL Pricing/Seat Selection Discussion” right?

I have no problem affording my tickets. I’ve upgraded and spent more on my tickets in each of the last 2 years. And for the record I haven’t stated if I am or am not going to renew for the new stadium.

I have no need to block you as I find it funny with all the arguments you have going with just about everyone on the board. Yet everyone else is wrong. Got it.

again, on the selling of night games. I sold 6 regular home games last season. And 2 playoff games. I can vouch for the fact that the night games I sold JUST LAST YEAR, not 2 and 3 years ago. Did not do as well as you think. Maybe when you last had tickets, the thought of night games was a cool and popular thing. But when the team has more night games at home than 1pm games, it loses its luster. I and many others that actually have season tickets and have had them for a long time, and have had them as recently as last year can vouch for that. You however want to argue that the opening day of the season which happened to be a night game, and a playoff game which was the first playoff game with full attendance in 20 years were great for your resale. Great. We all knew that here. Now get season tickets this year, and try and sell a meaningless night game against the Jaguars, in October, and tell me how you did. Until then, keep your opinions to yourself. Adults with knowledge of the situation are taking here.

Trust me - I totally get it. Only games you deem as non-worthy night games count for your blanket rule of "night games don't sell well".

September doesn't count. December doesn't count. Playoff games don't count (although you previously said that playoff games don't sell well). I could post 3 more examples and it wouldnt matter.

Sure. Go ahead and post 3 more playoff games from the 90s bills and tell me how well you did on resale for those games.

you’ve recently stated you haven’t had tickets in a while. Then you said the last game you sold was the Titans game 2 seasons ago. Then the first playoff game at home in front of a full crowd in 20 years.

just stop. Post about something you actually have knowledge of.

I sold 6 regular season games last year and 2 playoff games. I made money overall. I made money on all regular season games. And lost money on 1 playoff games. But you’re arguing so many different things you can’t even remember what your original point was. Hell, no one else can because you keep flip flopping back and forth. First you talk about how little money people have and how we can’t afford PSLs but then talk about how well resale is. When you haven’t even done it in 2+ years. But your next post will be to point out that the majority of fans in the area live in mom’s basement and flip burgers for $15/hr and cannot afford tix. But yet the stadium is sold out every game, and there’s a 7k person waiting list.

JUST STOP ALREADY. EVERYONE IS SICK OF HEARING IT OVER AND OVER.

and that means a lot coming from me because everyone here loves me so much.

Just stop. Now you’re talking about the year before that? The first real playoff game in the stadium because Covid robbed us from the Colts game (I was at) and the Baltimore game.

just stop guy. Making yourself look even more ridiculous with every post.

Leave this thread and find something that you know to argue about.

Well. I try to give people I’ve never met before the benefit of the doubt. For all I know he’s a big rig for Ticketmaster and knows specifics on resale values. Now I just see he’s living in his own delusional world. Where personal experiences from 2+ years ago aren’t factual in any way shape/form.

    Just now, Einstein said:

That was a night game, right?

Dude. Just stop. Opening day. Your insane. Just stop.

try it now with a Monday night game in October and tell me how you do.

Titans game where we smashed them.

What price did you set the tickets at?

    HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

are you kidding me dude? Your really going to argue that selling your tickets to the season opener, the year after we lost in the .13 game, the year we signed Von Miller, the year that every single media outlet had us as the front runner for the years AFC Super Bowl contender, which happened to be a night game. And you want to tell me you didn’t lose money on those tickets? Yeah….. NO CHIT!!!!

you are absolutely crazy dude. I can no longer read a single thing you ever write and take you with seriousness at all in any way shape or form.
